In this Season 2 finale, hosts Dr. Farzad Kamyar and Amani Wilson explore why comprehensive wrap around services are essential for pregnant and postpartum individuals with substance use disorder to achieve lasting recovery and resiliency.

The conversation features Dr. Andria Peterson, co-founder and executive of EMPOWERED, who shares the program's compelling origin story and the critical gaps in care that led to its creation. As a PharmD with extensive community health experience, Dr. Peterson explains her innovative approach to maternal substance use treatment and why integrated services create vital support networks that address the whole person.

Joining her is Rachel Mack, EMPOWERED's Director and licensed Social Worker/Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, who brings frontline perspective from her work with clients experiencing opioid use disorder. Together, they illuminate specific wrap-around services that have proven most critical for supporting recovery and how comprehensive support addresses social determinants of health.

The episode explores SBIRT principles and their implementation in maternal care settings, revealing transformative differences between comprehensive support versus traditional single-focus treatment methods.
