or already navigating it, we'rehere to support you every step
of the way.
Let's embark on this questtogether.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
Hello, welcome to the
Empty Nest class.
This is Melinda.
I'm so glad you're here.
It is just me this time andtoday we are just going to take
a moment.
So, honestly, if you're drivingand you want to just listen
through this first time and notreally participate, but just
know that you're kind oflistening with the intention of
(01:06):
coming back later.
But this is really just sort ofa guided meditation, journaling
experience that we hope willprepare your hearts and your
minds and your spirits for theholiday season and give you that
time of reflection as the yeardraws to a close, which is just
(01:30):
unbelievable.
I just had a really wonderfulconversation today with this
woman that I do some work with.
Like I go to her as a client, she kind of does similar work to
me client, she kind of doessimilar work to me and I just
(01:51):
love receiving her work.
And we were thinking about thelast time that we had had a call
and she was like Melinda, there's no way it's been this
long.
Like how can years go by and usnot realize it's been years?
Like I feel like I just talkedto you and I was like I don't
know, is it because, like of theCOVID year and now, time has
never been the same, or is it acouple of years, rather?
Or is it because, like this iswhat it is to be in this season
(02:13):
of life, where once we gothrough this empty nest
metamorphosis, then does timejust pass differently?
I don't know.
So y'all have to let me knowwhat you think.
Just pass differently, I don'tknow, so y'all have to let me
know what you think.
But anyway, I don't want us tolet this year get away without
(02:36):
having a chance to just reflectand really see how we've grown,
how we've changed, not just us,but our families, our
relationships.
So changed not just us, but ourfamilies, our relationships.
So give yourself a moment.
You can press pause, find acomfortable seat, grab your
favorite journal, make a cup oftea or fancy up your water with
(03:01):
some fresh lemon, just somethingthat makes you feel like, oh,
I'm about to do something lovely.
One of my favorite things is toget all of my favorite pins and
markers.
I have an abundance of journals.
I would show you all myjournals, but most of them are
(03:22):
under my computer stacking it upright now.
But here's one.
I have three more underneath mycomputer right here.
Just whatever you think wouldbe fun for you to have around
you for this time of reflection.
The beauty is you can pause itright and run and go get it.
So just find a cozy spot, agreat blanket, and settle in.
(03:46):
Just take a few deep breathsand as you keep settling in,
just let yourself get more andmore comfortable.
So if you're seated, how canyou let yourself find more ease
in your seat?
If you're lying down, let yourhead get heavy, your shoulders,
(04:10):
your back, just really rest intothe earth and let yourself get
heavy, heavy, heavy and justfeel yourself like the parts of
you that are elevated andvibrant and reaching for the
(04:32):
stars and doing all the things.
Let those parts of you, letthem just shimmer, that they
don't lose their shine.
Just let them fall to thebottom of the snow globe.
So just let everything come toa stillness, get more and more
quiet.
Yeah, just keep breathing.
(05:04):
Yeah, just keep breathing.
Place your hands on your bodysomewhere that feels nourishing.
One of the go-to's for most ofus is a hand on our heart, a
hand on your belly.
You can kind of move it aroundjust a little until you find
that just right spot for you.
Just let yourself take a reallybig sigh, keep letting your
(05:40):
awareness just fall back to theback of your body.
So we have so much of ourattention front facing moving
forward forward motion.
See, if you can just let yourawareness fall to the back of
your body, all the way to theback of your head, the back of
(06:04):
your neck you can even reachyour hand behind you and feel
your spinal column for referenceJust let your awareness drift
all the way back to the back, tothe back of your heart space.
(06:25):
And as you bring your awarenessto the back of your heart space
, just let, on every inhale, letyour heart widen, your spine
behind your heart, just let itwiden, expand out and as you
exhale, just release anything inyour heart space that's not
(06:48):
yours to hold.
And when we're here trying tosettle, trying to get more still
, there's definitely going to beparts of us that aren't ready
to settle, that want to rush, that want to.
Hey, can she talk faster?
Can we get through this?
Like maybe one of your feet aretapping or you've got like a
(07:13):
hand that's shaking?
See, if you can just tend toyourself and just say, for right
now I am here, slowing down, there'll be plenty of time for
motion later.
It is so possible that when Igive myself these minutes to
(07:40):
slow down, that it gives mehours of energy later, mental
focus, all the things I thinkit's wrapping me up right now I
(08:01):
get tenfold later.
So just breathe in that truth, that possibility, just to help
yourself settle in another levelof relaxation.
And so give your toes a littlewiggle, feel the bottom of your
(08:40):
feet, remember that you'regrounded, that you are held by
the earth, and so we're going tojust do a walk through the year
(09:04):
and I'm gonna kind of tie inthe body, your body, with the
walk, so that you're, instead ofthinking and ruminating over
the year, we're gonna reallyjust reflect, led by our heart,
led by our intuition, that partof you that is like the little
God seed planted in you, some ofyou will call that where you
(09:30):
feel the Holy Spirit, some ofyou will say your higher self,
some of you will say yourintuition.
It's all of that and we're justgoing to trust that part of
ourselves today to lead us.
So, as you keep relaxing back,if you feel yourself get heady,
(09:58):
thinking a lot, you can justtake yourself through like a
gentle rocking of your head andthen come back to your breath
and breathe in, and just say inand breathe out and just say out
(10:22):
.
Just feel the coolness orwarmth of your breath as it
enters and exits your body.
You can also just tap into whatit feels like muscularly for
your breath to come in and leaveyour body either way, but just
(10:44):
come back to that.
If you find yourself gettingdistracted as you move through
this exercise and you can waitall the way till the end to
journal, or if it helps you staymore dropped in to journal
throughout, you can journal, close your eyes again and
journal and close your eyesagain.
So there's no wrong way to dothis.
(11:05):
There's no right way to do this.
You could do it again in twodays and it could be totally
different, all right.
So just notice somewhere inyour body that's grabbing your
(11:26):
attention right now.
So just do a quick little scan, notice where in your body has
your attention.
Maybe place your hand therebringing your body has your
attention.
Maybe place your hand therebringing your breath to your
hand and just let something fromthis year, from this past year,
(11:54):
from 2024, that is still withyou now.
So it might mean that it'shappened within the last couple
of months, or an awareness or agrowing point that you've
noticed in the last couple ofmonths, but something that you
feel really aware of right now.
Don't judge it, don't remake it, don't try to make anything of
(12:20):
it, just whatever pops up.
It might even seem silly, itmight even be like why is it
coming up that we got a newcoffee pot?
You know, just let whatevercomes, come and then sit with
(12:43):
that, with that whatever's cometo you, and just notice how it
makes you feel in your belly, just notice what emotions come
up, notice how it makes you feelin your heart, notice how it
(13:09):
makes you feel in your throat,in your neck and then wherever
you felt it most in your neck,in your heart, in your belly.
(13:29):
Go back to that place and justnotice if there's a feeling or a
little nugget of wisdom therefor you that right now might
feel totally unrelated towhatever came to you, but let
(13:54):
that little nugget of wisdomlike rise to the top.
You can write it down.
Sometimes it's just one word, sometimes it's an image.
Today, when I did this exercise, I kept seeing just a lot of
color that helped me tap intowhat it felt like.
(14:17):
So just let it be what it is,don't try to make it into
something.
This is the language of yourbody, trying to give you its
deepest wisdom when it connectsto your heart.
And now see if you can thinkback as far into this year as
(14:45):
you can.
And so the way we do that iswe're just going to imagine that
we're walking down a road andlet the road be like your
favorite scene.
If you love a country dirt road, let it be that.
(15:06):
If you love a trail through theforest, let it be that.
I'm imagining one of thosereally beautiful white dirt
roads in the low country ofSouth Carolina with all the
mossy oaks.
(15:26):
So let yourself just startwalking down this road that
takes you back through the year.
Just notice the feelings thatcome up.
I notice some feelings of likeoh, I don't like walking
backwards, I like to walkforwards.
I don't like, I don't like toreflect, I like to move forward.
(15:53):
So notice how you feel and youdon't have to go back super far,
you know, go as far as you wanton this road.
Then stop and look around andsee what you see an animal, a
(16:20):
butterfly, the sun peekingthrough the trees, what do you
see?
And then just let whatevercomes, come, come.
(16:43):
Maybe a memory's popping in orjust a feeling you've had this
year or something you've grownthrough, and breathe with that.
If you want to journal, jot itdown, and you can do this for as
(17:23):
many iterations of that as youwant to just keep walking back
through your year, you can gomonth by month.
It just it's really yourpersonality, like let let you be
you here, okay.
So if you love the detail offlipping through your calendar
and going month on month, butstaying in this still place, do
that.
If it feels nice to you, justto have this journey through
(17:47):
meditation, just let yourselfkeep tracking back, pausing,
looking around, seeing what elsecomes up.
But now for just one more stopon the way.
(18:08):
I want you to just pause onthat walk on the road and find
yourself up against yourfavorite tree.
So a tree has appeared.
See the tree, smell the smellsand let yourself prop up against
(18:40):
this tree.
And this tree can look likeanything you want it to.
It can be like a gumdrop tree.
Just let it be the tree thatyour imagination offers you,
(19:00):
offers you.
And as you lean against thistree, remember that all of
creation has the same harm ofthe creator that you do.
So this tree radiates the loveof the most loving God.
(19:29):
You radiate the love of themost loving God.
You radiate the love of the mostloving God, the ground beneath
(19:53):
you, all working together forgood.
And so, as you lean back intothe tree, just open your heart
and maybe say to yourself or sayout loud I'm open to the
messages that are for my highestgood and for all that I love
(20:16):
and know, for their highest goodtoo.
Just open yourself up and I'mright here with you.
Wiggle your toes, Just feel theground beneath you and feel
(20:43):
your heart open and you mightget a message that you see, like
(21:04):
a visual no-transcript that youhear.
You might just have a littlesense.
You might feel like you'regetting like a download from one
of your angels or spirit guides, or scripture or a poem that
(21:29):
comes to mind.
So just don't limit yourselfhere.
Just open up, see what startscoming in, Receive this message
and give yourself a little timewith it and, if you feel
(21:52):
comfortable, you can lean intoit and say is there more?
(22:17):
Is there something from 2024that is so sacred that I don't
want to miss it, that I can takewith me in my heart forever,
but especially into this holidayseason.
That feels particularly helpfulas we cross into a new year and
(22:47):
if you have a worry about theseason or you have a worry about
the year's end, imagineyourself just putting it out on
your open hand and saying God.
Or if you don't feelcomfortable saying God, say
angels.
Or if you have a loved one thathas passed, it is in spirit
(23:10):
that you get messages from, say,Aunt Nancy, I need help with
this.
Do you have any insight for me?
I'm open to it Because you'vealready prayed for your highest
good in the name of love for youand for all that you're in
(23:37):
relationship with.
So, as you receive whateverguidance and message that you
receive, just take your hand toyour heart, a hand to your belly
.
Just feel the connection ofyour spirit, your loving heart,
(24:04):
how they're housed in thisprecious body of yours that will
be with you every day of yourlife.
See if you can just wrapyourself in a hug of gratitude,
(24:29):
of thanksgiving, and then openyour eyes, just so gently.
You can flutter your eyes open, wiggle your toes, take a nice
(24:55):
big inhale.
You can sweep your arms up,then exhale and down, stretch
and shake.
Come back into the room, jennifer, and I just want to
wish you the happiest holidays,a Merry Christmas, a Happy
(25:20):
Hanukkah, whatever you celebrate.
We just pray over thiscommunity that we would find
encouragement from one another, love and support, and so we hope
, as you go into the holidays, you feel that Please reach out
to us, let us know how you'redoing.
