Life coach Veronica Burnett shares with Emunah listeners her journey through domestic abuse to healing and empowerment. Her vision is to educate, empower, and encourage individuals to break free of dead-end cycles.
This important discussion comes as media exploits the sordid details of the tumultuous sex and violence-plagued relationship between Cassie Ventura and Diddy Combs during the celebrity's trial. Domestic abuse is an age-old problem.
Veronica offers these steps to get beyond abuse: Trust God so that you eventually will begin to trust yourself. Forgive your abusers. Refuse to blame your abuser when challenges come. Become intentional about your healing. Shift your thinking from the past to the present and future.
“Forgiveness is so important,” she says. “It will free your whole life. It will free your mind. It will free your spirit. And it will help you bring your smile back.”
Veronica offers many other helpful strategies during this provocative conversation.
Besides the Combs trial, Veronica also mentioned the tragic story of Yeardley Love. The murder of Yeardley Love took place on May 3, 2010, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Love, a University of Virginia (UVA) women's lacrosse student-athlete, was found unresponsive in her Charlottesville apartment, and later that day, UVA men's lacrosse playerGeorge Wesley Huguely V was arrested by Charlottesville police. Huguely was tried and found guilty of Love's murder, receiving a 23-year prison sentence.
