Thor Challgren (00:00):
Thought is the only power which can produce
tangible riches from formlesssubstance.
Those are the first words fromthis book, the Science of
Getting Rich, written by WallaceD Waddles, first published in
1910, an extremely influentialbook in the positive mindset

(00:23):
community, and in this episodeand in the next three episodes
that follow after that, I'mgoing to look at four chapters
from this book, starting withthis first one, and we're going
to unpack some powerful quotesfrom the Science of Getting Rich
.
Welcome to Every Day a NewThought.
I'm Thor Challgren, and everyday I bring you a new thought

(00:46):
perspective.
I wanted to go back and look atthis book because there are a
number of people that havementored me, that are
influential in the new thoughtcommunity, who have cited this
book, and it's one that I'veread many times.
But they've cited four specificchapters and said if you read
these four specific chaptersevery day for 90 days, you would

(01:10):
change the way you think aboutyour relationship to success.
And so today and over the nextthree days, I'm going to unpack
four of those chapters and talkabout quotes from them and how
we can apply them in our livestoday.
So the first chapter is chapterfour and it is called the first

(01:32):
principle in the Science ofGetting Rich.
Now one caveat when Waddleswrote this, the idea of getting
rich wasn't just success andriches in the money sense, it
was also health, it was vibrantrelationships, it was basically
any sort of ability for you tobe successful.

(01:54):
So just keep that in mind, thatwe're not talking about just
making money, though that is inthere.
So when you hear some of thesequotes, think of it that way.
So in this series, what I'mgoing to do is read a few of
these quotes and then unpackthem.
These are the ones that I thinkare sort of the most profound
in this chapter.
So he starts and kind of wantsto set the definition for all of

(02:17):
what's to come, and he saysthis there is a thinking, stuff
from which all things are madeand which, in its original state
, permeates, penetrates andfills the inner spaces of the
universe.
A thought in this substanceproduces the thing that's imaged
by the thought.

(02:37):
Man can form things in histhought and by impressing his
thought on formless substancecan cause the thing he thinks
about to be created.
That's the full quote.
So you probably have heardsomething like this many times
before.
Thoughts are things that, whenyou put your mind out there into

(03:00):
the universe this is anotherterm that we use that your
thought energizes in theuniverse and comes back to you
as that thing.
This is not a new thought, butremember this was written in
1910,.
His book proceeded NapoleonHill's Think and Grow Rich by 25
years.
It preceded Ernest Holmes's theScience of Mind textbook, which

(03:22):
was published first in 1927.
So this is one of thoseoriginal instances of someone
grappling with this idea thatthoughts go out into what he
called the ether and createdwhat you were thinking.
And he goes on, and this is apart that I think is really
interesting.
In this chapter he says tothink according to appearance is

(03:46):
easy.
To think truth regardless ofappearance is laborious and
requires the expenditure of morepower than any other work man
is called upon to perform.
So what he's saying here isthat, yeah, you can look at
things as they are and that'seasy.
I can look around at mycircumstances, whatever they may

(04:07):
be, my health, my wealth, myrelationships, and if I just
take them as they are, that'seasy to do.
But to know the truth of whatthey are, despite my relative
circumstances, despite myrelative conditions, he's saying
, that's the hardest thing thereis to do.
He goes on and he says to thinkhealth when surrounded by the

(04:30):
appearance of disease, or tothink riches when you are in the
midst of poverty requires power.
But he who acquires this powerbecomes a mastermind.
He can conquer fate, he canhave what he wants.
So again he's saying yes, it iseasy to think thoughts based on

(04:53):
what you see around you, muchharder to think thoughts based
on the truth, but ultimatelythat is more rewarding.
He concludes by saying when werealize this, we lose all fear,
for we know that we can createwhat we want to create, we can
get what we want to have and wecan become what we want to be.

(05:17):
Hope you enjoyed that.
