Thor Challgren (00:00):
The whole process of mental adjustment and
atonement can be summed up inone word Gratitude.
Those are words from this book, the Science of Getting Rich, by
Wallace Waddles, first writtenin 1910 and one of the
precursors to many of thesuccess books to come, including

(00:20):
Napoleon Hill's Think and GrowRich and Ernest Holmes' the
Science of Mind.
Wallace Waddles wrote about theidea of riches, but he's not
talking about just wealth.
This also includes the ideas ofyour physical health, your
relationship, success, anythingthat is an area where you can
focus your mind and now is hisprincipal focus you can be

(00:45):
successful at.
We're going to talk more aboutthe chapter on gratitude in
today's episode.
Hi, I'm Thor Challgren.
Welcome to Every Day A NewThought, where every day I share
a new thought, a newperspective.
In today's episode it's thesecond part in a series where
I'm looking at four chaptersfrom the Science of Getting Rich

(01:05):
that are recommended by people, including success author and
speaker Bob Proctor.
He said there are four chaptersthat if you read them every day
for 90 days, you will become amore successful person.
So in yesterday's episode Italked about the first chapter
and I'm going to summarize thatreal quick here in a second.
Today is chapter number seven.

(01:29):
So yesterday he said readchapter four.
Today we're talking aboutchapter seven, which is about
gratitude.
So let me sort of quicklysummarize and get us up to where
we are right now, and I'm goingto quote.
I'm going to quote WallaceWaddles here.
He says this is basically theprecepts of how to adopt this
way of thinking.
He says, first, you believethat there is one intelligent

(01:52):
substance from which all goodthings proceed.
Second, you believe that thissubstance gives you everything
you desire.
And third this is where we aretoday you relate yourself to it
by a feeling of deep andprofound gratitude.
So yesterday, just to quicklysummarize, he was saying there

(02:13):
is this substance out there andyou put your thoughts into it
and then that substance becomesthe thoughts.
Basically, thoughts are things.
So today he's talking about theimportance of gratitude.
Essentially it's the how of howdo you do this?
If he's saying thoughts arethings, you can put your
thoughts out there and get backwhat you're thinking of, then

(02:35):
the question is how do you do it?
He's saying it's gratitude.
So I'm going to read a coupleof quotes here and then unpack
them and get us to thatunderstanding of what he means
by it.
So he says, many people whoorder the lives rightly in all
other ways are kept in povertyby their lack of gratitude.
He goes on and says the moregratefully we fix our minds on

(02:57):
the supreme when good thingscome to us, the more good things
we will receive and the morerapidly they will come.
And the reason simply is thatthe mental attitude of gratitude
draws the mind into closertouch from the source from which
the blessings come.
So the idea of gratitude not anew thing.

(03:20):
We probably heard this amillion times, right, but here
is Wallace Waddles in 1910pointing out one of the most
important points that he wantsto make is that gratitude is the
foundational way that you makethis happen.
He says gratitude brings yourwhole mind in closer harmony
with the creative energies ofthe universe.

(03:41):
So this seems to us, in 2023,like a pretty obvious thing.
But again, take yourself backto 1910.
This was a somewhat new ideafor people.
One of the other key points thathe makes in this chapter is
it's easy for us to look around, especially these days with

(04:03):
social media, where you can findyourself dissatisfied with so
many things.
Here's what Wallace Waddles hasto say about that.
He says and I'm quoting himhere the moment you permit your
mind to dwell withdissatisfaction upon things as
they are, you begin to loseground.
Fix your attention on the bestis to surround yourself with the

(04:26):
best and you will become thebest To create.
A power within us makes us intothe image of that which we give
our attention.
So he's saying look, you canlook out there and find all the
things wrong with the world andguess what you will get back.
So that idea of thoughts arethings.
If you focus on what's wrongwith the world, you're gonna get

(04:48):
back an experience of that.
He's saying instead that you,as a grateful mind, you
continually expect good thingsand your expectation will become
faith.
So, bottom line, cultivate thehabit of being grateful for
everything that comes to you andgive thanks continuously.

(05:10):
That's the show for today.
I'm grateful for you being here.
