Professor Mark Possover shares groundbreaking insights on neuropelviology, the revolutionary field addressing chronic pelvic pain that bridges gynecology, neurology, and minimally invasive surgery. His work offers hope to patients who've been told to simply "live with" their pain, targeting the pelvic nerves directly when the source of pain is elusive or deemed untreatable.

• The vagus nerve does not extend into the pelvic cavity, ending at the level of the colon and stomach
• Damage to nerves in the pelvis involves the pelvic splanchnic nerve system, not the vagus nerve
• Patients with autoimmune diseases often develop pathology of the pelvic vessels that can compress pelvic nerves
• Conditions like Ehlers-Danlos, Raynaud's, Marfanoid syndrome and Hashimoto's show connections to pelvic nerve issues
• Endometriosis demonstrates strong links to other autoimmune diseases and conditions like diabetes

(00:41):
Today's guest has built hiscareer on a bold but vital
belief that suffering painshould not be a life sentence.
And for Professor Mark Possover, that belief isn't just a
philosophy, it's a mission.
As a world-renowned pioneer inneuropelviology yes, you heard
that right he has transformedhow we understand and treat
chronic pelvic pain, especiallywhen the source is elusive or

(01:05):
deemed untreatable.
His work bridges the worlds ofgynecology, neurology and
minimally invasive surgery totarget the pelvic nerve directly
, often bringing relief topatients who've been told to
simply live with it.
His methods have given hope tocountless people who have felt
like they've run out of options.
Please help me in welcomingProfessor Marc Possebert.

(01:26):
How does trauma, whether it'sbig, small, how does it affect
the vagus nerve and does it havethe ability to heal, like
trauma to the nerve?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
The trauma to the vagus nerve within the pelvic
cavity will never occur becausethe vagus nerve is not located
in the pelvic cavity.
It's ended at the level of thecolon and of the stomach.
So you can have a lesion of thevagus nerve, especially on the
right side after surgery in theupper abdomen or at the level of

(01:58):
the esophagus In the pelvis.
You can have damage from thesecond parasympathetic nerve
system.
It's what we call the pelvicsphagnum nerve, but not the
vagus nerve.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Okay, how does neuropelviology tie into
autoimmune response or fatigueas we?

Speaker 2 (02:19):
know, endometriosis and autoimmune disease directly
have nothing in common.
Osteoporosis and autoimmunedisease directly have nothing in
common.
But patients with autoimmunedisease not just Ehlers-Danlos
syndrome, but also Raynaudsyndrome, marfanoid syndrome,
thyroid disease, hashimoto, andall this situation obviously,
according to our recent research, all these patients with

(02:41):
autoimmune disease havepathology of the pelvic vessels
and men develop maybe at somepoint in their life a
compression of the pelvic nerveand that is what we call
neuropathic pelvic pain.
But we know also thatendometriosis is strongly linked
to other autoimmune diseases aswell and to diabetes, for

(03:04):
example.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, that's a wrap for this Quick Connect.
