Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Endorphasm , mick, where we talk about all
things.
Endorphasm, I am your hostess, erica Porter.
I want to give the loudest, biggest I don't know what shout
out to Bess for her sacrifice, her commitment to boxing for

(00:27):
Haymakers, for Hope, which justhappened on September 19th.
To say that she's a badass isthe largest understatement that
has ever been made.
Best fought for the EndorphasmFoundation.
I have never in my life been soproud of a human so honored,

(00:51):
humbled, god every adjective andevery feeling it's really
difficult to express thesignificance of what she did is
and the display of selflessnessand humility and all of that is
just exceptional.

(01:13):
And when you think that theworld is full of mischief and
shit and awful things, you cantake a step back and look that
the world is filled with peoplethat give a shit and care about

(01:36):
their fellow human and do thingsthat make an impact that don't
serve them.
They just do things becausethey believe in service to
others, they believe in theircommunity, they believe in the
greater good of people.
And I am so incredibly humbledby watching her and to even be a

(02:03):
part of it was.
It was really very special, andso I am grateful.
And I want to talk about theEndorphasm Foundation.
I want to talk about the impactthat we are making within the
cancer community and howimportant it is in life to

(02:26):
control our controllables.
And when we're faced withsomething that seems so
overwhelming and it feels asthough you are relinquishing all
of your control to all theoutside forces, it is a really
powerful thing when yourecognize and you honor the fact

(02:48):
that you have a choice in allof it and that you have the
power to change how you gothrough a diagnosis, how you
fare in that diagnosis, andmovement is something that is

(03:09):
what the body is designed to do,and there is no human body that
is the exception to that, andit's really important to realize
that when your body is going tobe battling, it's going to be
on a journey that is not alwayspretty, whether it's the

(03:29):
treatment, whether it's thesurgeries.
It's important to recognizethat you, the individual that is
going through all of this, thatyou still retain control over
what I feel is the mostimportant piece of it.
Self-care is ours, to controlit is ours, and that is

(03:53):
something that is really, reallyimportant.
It's important to understandhow it changes us, how it really
creates a situation where notonly are we physically in a

(04:14):
better place, but we areemotionally in a better place,
and the Endorphasm Foundation isnot just about offering
movement services to individualsthat have been diagnosed with
cancer.
It's also the educational piece.
It is us going into cancercenters, it is us talking to

(04:38):
different support groups andreally educating and really
inspiring the individuals thatcome and listen to us speak and
deliver the message of howcritical it is to control your
controllables and how importantit is to move through a

(05:02):
diagnosis and after a diagnosis,it is important for us to get
referrals from oncologyclinicians, be it the
oncologists themselves or thenurse practitioners, the nurse,
navigators, pt, whomever it is,whomever it is.
It is important for us toexplain what we do, why we do it

(05:28):
, how we do it and the impactthat we're making.
All of the services that weoffer, from the education, going
and talking to differentorganizations and support groups
and cancer centers to providingthe services, movement classes
and we offer them all over theplace.

(05:49):
We've connected with differentorganizations, fitness studios,
and we are offering everythingthat we offer free of charge to
the individuals that areutilizing our services.
We use our fundraising.
Like the Burpees for Boobs onOctober 19th at Endorphasm.

(06:12):
We'll be doing it at 10 am.
But listen, whether you'redoing it at Endorphasm or
somewhere else, or you're not inVirginia and you might be in
Portland, oregon, or you're inKey West Florida, or you're in
Torrance, california or New YorkCity, wherever it is, we're

(06:34):
asking that everyone participateat some point in time.
On Saturday, october 19th, atEndorphasm, we're doing it from
10 am to 11 am, followed withdrinks and food after, and we
want it to be just an amazingevent.
This is the fifth year thatwe've done it to benefit the

(06:55):
Endorphasm Foundation.
The services that we offer forfree are not free.
So we pay for our certifiedcancer exercise specialists, we
pay for the classes, we pay fordifferent memberships in
different places, but the onlyway to be able to offer all of

(07:17):
the services that we offer freeof charge is to do fundraising
events, and it takes a village.
It's a grassroots effort.
We are a small but mightynonprofit.
We are a 501c3.
Your donations are taxdeductible.

(07:39):
They really go to helpindividuals that need it.
In the moment.
I think there are so manydifferent organizations that are
there to support research and avariety of other things.
All important, all incrediblyvaluable, but I want to impact

(08:00):
individuals in the moment, rightnow.
I want people to feel empowered.
I want them to understand whatfeeling good feels like.
I want people to be in aheadspace that all things are
possible, that power of theendorphasm.
The endorphasm is the momentduring movement, that you feel

(08:25):
all things are possible.
Let me go back that you feelall things are possible.
So when you receive a diagnosis, you feel like all is lost and
things are not possible.
It's important to change themindset, not only for us to get
stronger as individuals becausethat is so important, especially

(08:46):
during treatment, to staystrong and healthy throughout
the process.
It is really important thatthat beautiful mind mind stays
energized and full of hope andrecognizing that when we control
our controllables, it can belife-changing.

(09:07):
Because it's easy to fallvictim to being that victim of
having been diagnosed withcancer, going through treatment,
feeling fatigued, wanting to gohome and curl up in a ball.
And I get it.
I was there, but I did notallow myself to succumb to the

(09:30):
self-doubt, the self-pity, allof that that has a tendency of
happening when you feel asthough you're relinquishing all
of your control.
And it seems counterintuitivethat the more you move, the more
energized, you feel, but it isthe reality.
And so we want to educate anyonewe possibly can.

(09:55):
We want to inspire anyone thatwe possibly can to refer
individuals to the EndorphasmFoundation, to allow us to make
a difference, to be a powerfulforce for individuals to change
the narrative of what it meansto be living with and through

(10:18):
cancer.
And we can only do that withyour support.
And so the EndorphasmFoundation's sole fundraising
mechanism right now is theBurpees for Boobs.
Obviously, we had Bess who didthe haymakers for hopes event,
and she raised an enormousamount of money for the

(10:40):
foundation, and for that we areforever grateful.
And who knows, maybe next yearI'll actually box.
But the burpees for boobs eventis our, the event that we have
utilized for our fundraisingefforts.
And so create your teams.
You know whether you're inRichmond or you're not in

(11:02):
Richmond, still create yourteams.
Let's make this a nationwideevent.
We are going to do a Zoom castin Endorphasm, so we're going to
try to put all of the differentorganizations that are
participating up on our walls sothat we can kind of all be a
part of this together.

(11:22):
So obviously that would meanthat you would have to do it at
10 am Eastern Standard Time, butplease send videos and
different things If you are notdoing it at 10 AM and you're
doing it at another time.
We want to be there, we want to.
We want to be there in spiritand to help you however we can.

(11:43):
So I thank you for spreadingthe message of what the
Endorphasm Foundation is.

they haven't been recentlydiagnosed and maybe they're
struggling, please have themreach out to me, erica at

come and to talk and to inspireand to educate and whatever it

(12:28):
is that your organization feelslike they need.
Just reach out, and you canreach out to me directly.
Obviously, I have a media teamthat handles a lot of that.
But reach out, and you canreach out to me directly.
Obviously, I have a media teamthat handles a lot of that.
But, uh, reach out to medirectly and I am more than
happy to help.
Um, I've gone into differentorganizations and spoken with
them and I think that we allhave a really good time.

(12:49):
It's not a dry conversation,it's a.
It's an exciting one.
It's interactive.
It's an exciting one.

(13:18):
It's interactive.
A lot of it is people askingquestions and, to the best of my
ability, I answer them.
So it's a lot of fun and wehave a network of people that we
have to help and deliver on ourservices.
We partner with differentorganizations.
We've done a partnership with aclass at the Y with different
you know small boutique fitnessstudios that offer classes
specifically for our foundationmembers.
If you are in an area that isnot Richmond, virginia, and you
would like to have services inyour area, please reach out to
me, because we are alwayslooking to expand our reach and

(13:43):
we want to be able to help asmany people as we possibly can.

Check out the websiteendorfasmfoundationorg.
What else?
What else am I leaving out?
So many exciting things.

(14:51):
We want to make an impact withas many people as we possibly
can, and so part of that is justsharing the message of what
we're all about.
It's not even always aboutdonating.
It's about letting people knowwhat we do and why we're doing
it and that services areavailable and getting people to

(15:12):
utilize those services.
The other thing that I want tobring up is the fact that this
is not just for the individualthat is dealing with a cancer
diagnosis, but also theircaretakers, because we very well
know the impact that it has onour loved ones, and it's

(15:33):
important for accountability andkind of feeling comfortable
that maybe you bring your lovedone whether that's a daughter, a
son, a friend, a husband, awife, a partner, whomever that
person might be to come and joinyou.
So it's long winded.

(15:53):
This was going to be like a fiveminute podcast.
It is now about a 16-minutepodcast.
Uh, you guys know that I liketo talk, so endorphasm
