SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
This is episode 110,
and this is your host, Latoya.
And this is Equip the Next, where you get equipped to lead,
disciple, and move the missionforward.
So, do you want some more Biblestudy tips or rhythms to help
you through the holidays?
You don't want to miss this.
(00:47):
This is Equip the Next, and umI'm just gonna go and dive on in
because I know that I gave youguys some simple rhythms that I
think work when you're in a busyseason.
But as we approach the holidays,I figured I would share some
(01:09):
more Bible study rhythms for theholidays.
Um, because why not?
You could never have too many.
Um, I also want to encourageyou.
I'm gonna be in a couple weeks,I'm gonna be answering some
questions, some, you know, answering some questions live.
(01:29):
So I would encourage you to umemail me.
I'll I don't have to say yourname, so don't be embarrassed,
don't be shy.
I'm not gonna say your nameunless you want me to.
If you, you know, if you saydon't share my name, I won't.
But basically, um, if you haveany questions, feel free to
(01:49):
email me at hello atequiphetenext.com and they just
might be shared.
I might just answer them onlineor on air.
So um I look forward to itagain.
Feel free, I'll give you a shoutout unless you say don't, you
know, I'll rather be anonymous, which is fine.
(02:12):
But um I I pray and hope to dothe QA series before the
holiday, and then I will betaking a break because it's much
needed.
So, anyway, let's get on withit.
So, Bible study rhythms for theholiday.
(02:32):
If I had to share some, um,because before before we begin,
the reason why I thought it wasfitting to do this now is
because a lot of people like towait until New Year's and then
they have all these New Year'sresolutions.
And you know how that is, andthey crash after about what
February, March.
Don't focus on a New Year'sresolution.
(02:55):
Let's make a lifestyle, let'smake a lifestyle change.
So that's why I'm I want toshare this now because I figure
if you can do this now, it'll gointo the new year.
You'll be already ready.
That was one of the reasons whywe did our goals in um October,
because I wanted, I knew, firstof all, I knew people were busy.
(03:18):
And so I wanted to, you know, get everybody before um they got
too busy, but also because Iwanted us to do it before we got
into the whole New Year'sresolution thing.
Because that might, you might bein a completely different
season.
Your New Year's might startright now.
So I wanted to focus on justbuilding healthy life, a healthy
(03:41):
lifestyle with God in mind.
So I guess one of the NewYear's, that was a gulp.
I I um I didn't know I was gonnabe that loud.
Um, so anyway, one of the NewYear's res or one of the rhythms
I would suggest is to, ofcourse, make it fun.
(04:03):
Make your Bible study fun.
Don't be like, oh gosh, I gottaread this Bible.
Like, no, uh, God don't wantthat.
Like, could you imagine somebodymeeting you and they're like,
oh, I really don't want to go tothis, you know, stay home.
How about that?
(04:24):
So listen, make it fun.
Some great things to make itfun.
You can post reminder versesaround the house, like little
the little post-its.
Post them so like where you gowhere you frequent, where you
frequent.
So, you know, in your in yourcloset or in your car or on your
(04:44):
desk, wherever, just post littleBible verse reminders to kind of
nudge you.
That's a really great way torefresh, really great, great way
to recharge, and you can alwaysum rotate them out.
(05:05):
Someone in our group, in thetelegram, the private telegram
group, had posted, you know, what was your favorite Bible
verse and why, which was areally good um post.
At the time, I I really don'thave a favorite at this moment
because I think for me itdepends on the season that I'm
in.
Like at last year it was umProverbs 119.
(05:30):
This year it's like, I don'tknow if I have a favorite.
I have favorite books right now,but nonetheless, if you have
favorite verses, write them downon post-its, small, the small
ones, and just post themdifferent places.
So when you see them, becauseyou know you post them and you
might forget.
And then when you see them, you're like, oh man, you know,
(05:52):
that's a great way to keep itfun when you're when you have a
busy season, busy holidayseason.
Always remember that Jesus isthe reason for the season.
I know that sounds corny, but itis true.
A lot of times we focus onmaterial things.
Did this person get this gift?
Did this person do this?
Or did I invite this person?
Oh my gosh, I need to invitethis.
(06:13):
Oh my gosh, I need to make thismeal.
I have to have it this way.
Listen, take a step back, restin him, allow him to lead you,
and remember he is the reason.
That'll keep a lot of burdensand a lot of weight off a lot of
(06:37):
people.
If you remember that, you'll beyou'll be set free, I pray.
Another good fun thing would beto have a prayer board that you
post.
There's um there's sticky note.
Uh so the post-it post-itcompany, I'm not um sponsored by
(06:58):
them, but I do use it.
But the post-it company, theyhave whiteboard that um a
whiteboard sticker thingy thatyou can you can stick on a wall,
and it's like a whiteboard.
Um, if unless you have awhiteboard of your like already
that you don't mind dedicatingas like a prayer wall for the
(07:20):
holidays, but that's a reallygood and fun idea.
You know, have a prayer boardpraying for those you know and
you love.
I have one in my closet becauseit's away from like everybody
else.
And whenever someone eitherneeds prayer, like a prayer
(07:42):
request, or when someone dropson my heart and I'm like, okay,
this person might need prayer,I'll just write their name or
whatever on that board so Idon't forget.
And I have to go to my closetevery day.
So when I go to my closet, I seethem, and that's a reminder to
pray for them.
Because you know, you might say,you know how we we do.
(08:04):
Yeah, I'll pray for you.
Forget as soon as you hang upthe phone.
You you're not praying for themfor real.
Not because you're mean, it'sjust you just forget.
So this is a great way toremember to pray for those
people during the holidayseason.
There's a lot of people who'velost loved ones.
Maybe that's you.
And maybe you need prayer, youknow, and because of busy
(08:24):
seasons, we can tend to forgetthat.
We can forget that some peopledon't have loved ones.
You know, some people um don'thave anyone to share a holiday
with.
And so, you know, just bemindful of that, be conscious of
that.
Another great idea, these arejust Bible study rhythms for the
(08:45):
holidays.
And even though you might feellike, well, it's not really
technically a quote unquoteBible study rhythm, it kind of
is because um you are leading byexample and you are actually
discipling people and you'repraying for people, and you're
(09:08):
be you're the light that theyneed to see, and that's in the
word.
So another great tip would be togift someone a call.
How many times do we think that?
Oh, I I give them a materialthing, okay, great.
(09:30):
It's temporary though, but it'ssomething about when you haven't
heard from someone in a whileand you call them or they call
you.
For me, it's like I'm pickingback right where we left off.
It's so refreshing, and sogifting someone a call is
(09:52):
probably the best gift you cangive.
You know, a loved one.
But also, I want you to do this.
I want you to write down andreflect on your wins.
We can always look back at ourchallenges and our regrets, and
oh my gosh, I didn't get to dothis, and oh, I had this goal
(10:14):
and it didn't come to pass, andoh, this.
But what about reflecting onyour wins?
How did the Lord show up?
How were you able to be ablessing to someone?
How was someone able to blessyou?
How did the Lord reveal himselfto you this year?
(10:36):
Reflect on the wins.
I guess I should just say thatit's more than just Bible study
rhythms, it's biblical rhythms.
These are biblical rhythms.
Yeah, we'll change that.
Biblical rhythms.
Because they really are.
It's it's walking in in love andwalking in unity and walking in
(10:58):
Christ.
That's what people see.
You know, you can quote all thescriptures you want, be a
theologian all day and true andtrue, but if you don't live and
walk it, it's really pointlessin some regard.
So listen, these were just somelittle nuggets to make this
(11:25):
season feel, I guess, completein a sense.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, because again, you mightbe busy because you know, family
might come in, you gotta flyhere, do this, and do that.
But you can still make these, these are very simple and these
are practical that you canliterally apply right now,
(11:49):
especially the prayer board orprayer wall one.
And keep like every time youwalk by that board.
That's blessed me, I'm tellingyou.
It's really blessed me.
Listen, I want you again to sendme your questions via email at
hello at equipthenest.com.
Send me those questions.
(12:10):
Um, it doesn't matter what itis, as long as it's not weird,
like something completelyrandom, you know.
But you can ask questions aboutme if you want to get to know me
better.
You can ask uh maybe a Biblequestion.
I'll do my best to answer.
Um, and who knows, maybe yourquestion will be um discussed on
(12:35):
this platform.
I would definitely love to haveyou a part of that.
And you know I have to give youa challenge.
I can't let you go withoutgiving you some kind of
challenge.
So your challenge for this fortoday, for this week, is to
start one family or householdrhythm this week.
(12:59):
Maybe these rhythms I gave youkind of sparked an idea for a
new rhythm that you can createand you can implement in your
home.
Start there.
Start one family or householdrhythm this week that you can
apply.
And I pray that if you have afamily that they'll be on board
(13:22):
with it.
I think it would be a great ideato incorporate something new.
