La crocifissione di Gesù
15 Allora Pilato, temendo una rivolta e non volendo scontentare la folla, liberò Barabba. Ordinò poi che Gesù fosse frustato e lo consegnò ai soldati, perché fosse crocifisso.
16-17 Allora i soldati romani lo portarono nella fortezza dove riunirono lʼintero corpo di guardia. Gli buttarono addosso un mantello rosso, poi fecero una corona di lunghe spine acuminate e gliela misero in testa. 18 Lo salutavano poi, deridendolo: «Salve, re dei Giudei!» 19 e lo colpivano sulla testa con un bastone, gli sputavano addosso e si inginocchiavano per «adorarlo».
20 Quando finalmente furono stanchi del gioco, gli tolsero il mantello rosso e gli rimisero i suoi vestiti. Poi lo portarono via per crocifiggerlo. 21 In quel momento tornava dai campi un certo Simone di Cirene, padre di Alessandro e Rufo. Simone fu costretto a portare la croce di Gesù.
22 Portarono quindi Gesù in un posto chiamato Gòlgota (gòlgota significa teschio). 23 Là gli fu offerto del vino con erbe amare, ma Gesù lo rifiutò. 24 Poi lo inchiodarono alla croce e si giocarono a dadi i suoi vestiti.
25 Erano circa le nove di mattina, quando si procedette alla crocifissione.
26 Sulla croce, sopra la sua testa, fu fissata una scritta che indicava i suoi crimini. Diceva: «Il re dei Giudei».
