That there's actually a provenbenefit to witnessing someone else's
success and modelling their behaviour.
In 2007, scientists studied agroup of 38 children, aged 6 to 18.

(01:50):
They were invited to use the university'sclimbing wall, daunting for some who
had never done rock climbing before.
The scientists running the studywere interested in which students
would complete the task, and whatwould make them more likely to do so.
Little did the children know, but they'd been split into two
groups before their arrival.

(02:13):
Group 1 was shown a video of peopleclimbing a wall that looked very similar
to the one they were about to climb.
While Group 2 hadn't beenshown any video at all.
Amazingly Just watching thevideo had a dramatic effect.
The group that watched the videobefore they climbed the wall

(02:34):
ended up doing a lot better.
They felt more confident abouttheir abilities, enjoyed the
climb more, and performed better.
