(00:05):
Hi everyone. This is Christina andthis is MJ. And this is another
episode of a Spooky Tells, thepodcast for All Things as Spooky. We
can't read, and we will laughsometimes, and you will hear my children
in the background sometimes, yes,and you might hear the humming of my
ac in the background here here,it's pretty loud. Usually you can hear
(00:25):
sometimes in the episode. Okay,I apologize. It's hot. It's one
hundred and nine guy, you needit, so, yeah, normalize ac
sounds because we are dying the summermelting, melting. Am I the wicked
Witch of the West. No,it's just hot. It's very hot.
It's excessively hot. It's disgusting.Check on your fam in Mexico, by
(00:49):
the and I don't know if it'syeah, it's just Mexico. But there's
a heat wave. It's terrible.Yeah, Like cars are like blowing up
and stuff from the heat wave. And it was causing so many fires.
My grandma had a heat stroke. It was terrible. Oh no, she's
okay. Yeah, she's okay. But they're not used to this level of
heat. Yeah. Sent a messagethat she just didn't feel good and she
(01:12):
was so tired. Her body wasaching. Everyone's like drink water, please,
Yeah, like drink water. Andthen the one thing I'll tell you
if you have family in Mexico orany place that's that's not used to a
heat wave, because here we havea C like California except for the Bay
Area, and that's screwed him overa few years ago. But where I
(01:33):
live, I have you know, everything, every single building has AC.
But if you don't have a C, wet a towel, drape it over
yourself. It'll keep your cool throughoutthe day. You could also wet a
blanket and put it over and youknow, like ring it out so it'll
be damp, and then put itover your windows, close your blinds and
(01:53):
put this and put that. Andyou could also, I think, like
wet it the outside of your houseto keep it cool. Oh okay,
so do you know those are littlethings you could do if you don't have
ANYC. I also know that peopledo swamp coolers. Is that what it's
called? Yes, it is.I was about to mention those. Yeah,
(02:13):
it's it's sort of like putting.I don't know how they work.
Do they put something like wet overthe fan or something? I think they
put a fan like they put anice chest or something and then the fan
gets flown through ice. I'm notentirely sure because I don't know how that
works, and I have me neithercentral AC. I've been very lucky to
have AC all my life and samemy mom used to be very sindue with
(02:37):
it growing up and in Medesto,SA we would just go to the mall
all day and come back at nightto the house and then turn it off.
Yeah yeah, and also take napsduring the day and do whatever you
need to do at night, likeif you like make if you're exhaust,
but if you're you're off, sleepthroughout the entire day and then like one
(03:00):
the sunset, you know, dowhatever chores you have to do. It's
the best thing, especially if youdon't have AC. And stay safe.
You guys, heat strokes no likejokes, no, and if you had,
if you've had one, you're proneto more. Yeah. We went
to to school with the girl whoI had PE and she had heat stroke
(03:22):
damn. Yeah. I mean Iwas a medic in the army and that
was like one of the things wesaw the most, especially when we had
to be out all day don't knowthe symptoms. I don't even know the
symptoms honestly, but I think oneof them is like you stopped sweating or
something. I'm not sure. Yes, stay safe out there. Yes,
we don't want you guys to getsick. Yes, And today we are
(03:44):
talking about Ego, the Liberal Rojo, the Red Book Game. Have you
heard of this before? No?I haven't. So when you were like,
you gave me some research that,y'a was like, what where have
I been? Yeah? I hadnot heard of it either. It reminds
me. It reminded me of whatabout the Pencil game? Did you hear
about that one? Yes? Okay, yeah, yeah I heard about that
(04:09):
one. It started in Mexico tochecks out. Yeah, I guess.
Before we talk about the Red Bookthough, we do have a listener story.
If you have a story that youwant to send into the podcast,
you can email at spookytos at gmaildot com. If you're a Patreon member,
then you can message it through therebecause it's an easy way for me
to see it. You can submitit on Discord. You can also just
(04:31):
DM it on socials. Any ofthat works. So this listener wanted to
stay anonymous. This is a continuationof the one with the well that they
saw something pop out of the well, like a couple episodes ago, the
episode we did with v where herfamily her dad grew up in Parian.
(04:56):
So hard, but yeah, allright, let's do this. My dad
and his Siblians moved to the States, specifically California. My great grandfather owned
the apartment complex that the entire familylived in. I lived there until kindergarten,
and the rest of my family livedthere until my great grandpa passed away
in two thousand and four. Therewas one apartment where my cousin lived and
(05:18):
she would sleep walk. Often. She would walk down the street by herself,
buy something from the corner store, and go back to bed whole while
asleep. That's that's wild. Wow. When she moved out, another cousin
moved in there, and he alsostarted to sleepwalk in the middle of the
(05:39):
night. It got to be sooften that his mom had to put a
bell at the front door to beable to hear if he left the apartment
at night. Another cousin that livedin a different apartment would be attacked in
her room by the ghost of alittle girl. Oh my god. She
would come out from the attic crossspace above her room. That's terrifying.
(06:01):
The entrance to the space was asmall square in her closet ceiling. She
said the little girl would choke herin her sleep. My cousin would scream
and wake everyone up in the apartment. It happened multiple times. Each time
her parents would take her to myhouse to get away from the apartments for
the day. The very last timeshe was attacked by this little girl,
(06:21):
my cousin ended up in the hospitalafter suffering from a panic attack. Those
are terrifying, especially when you don'tknow what they are the first time you
have one. Yes, m Ithought I was going to die. Like
I was having a heart attack.Yeah. I started shaking too when I
have a panic attack, and likeI get really cold. Yeah, like
(06:43):
my fingers go all numb and myface. I was like, what's happening
to me? Okay, back tothe story. The strange thing is that
my cousin suddenly stops seeing the littlegirl after she was hospitalized. We did
some research in the area but couldnot find anything about a little girl.
The only deaths that were closely relatedto the area was a creek that was
directly behind the apartment complex that wasvery popular for suicide's okay, there is
(07:13):
a bridge that did not have verytall barriers and a lot of people died
by suicide by jumping into the drycreek. I remember seeing blood at the
bottom of the creek several times asa kid when I would go visit the
family. I had been moved outof there for several years, and we
would always go to the apartments tovisit my grandparents every Sunday. One day,
my cousins and I were sitting inthe living room and the adults were
(07:34):
outside. Suddenly, the floor lampthat was in the living room lifted off
from the ground about a foot highand fell over, as if someone had
picked it up and then threw itwith force. We all rushed outside to
tell the adults what happened, andthey all said it probably just fell and
played it off, but we literallysaw it levitating for a good three seconds
(07:59):
before it bell After my greatgrandpa diedand my family sold the complex and moved
to a different town, none ofus have been back ever since it was
sold. Two months ago, Idrove past the complex for the first time
in about twenty years, and itwas painted a very dark color. It
gave me chills just looking at it. When I moved out of the complex
and into my current home, wedidn't have any issues in that house until
(08:20):
we came back from a trip toMexico and we brought back two handmade wooden
masks. One of them was plainwood and looked happy. The other was
terrifying. It was black with mutedred and green details and had a frown
on its face. This one scaredme. I remember I was in elementary
school and waiting at the kitchen tablefor my dad to take me to school.
(08:43):
It was quiet and I was bymyself. Suddenly, out of nowhere,
I heard something jump in front ofthe door that leads to the kitchen
from the hallway. It was quick, Oh what that message just cut off
and there was nothing else. Okay, please send us the rest of that
when you get a chance. Iwould love to hear m. I wonder
what was going on in that apartmentcomplex. Whatever was just it needed to
(09:09):
stop, because yeah, it wasjust that. It was like I'm gonna
get you and you and you.Everyone gets a paranormal experience like Oprah,
but like a ghost, and insteadof getting lucky with like money or cars,
you get, you get a terrifyingparanormal experience and a panic attack.
Yes, that will traumatize you.So no, thanks, I don't like
(09:31):
it, and I like how likeevery time it was always the adults were
like, your your childish imagination andthen like, you're one thousand percent sure
that, like what you're experiencing isreal? Yeah, and you know what
now you know? Before I wouldbe like how why would they not believe
them? But now as an adult, if, like I have said many
(09:54):
times, if my child comes tome with something like that, I'm going
to be like, I don't hearanything. You're fine, both of us,
you know. Yeah, we've referredto this comic so many times.
But the one where the kid goesand he's like, there's a monster at
the time at the window, andthey're like, and you think I want
to be scared? Do you thinkI want to see that monster? And
(10:16):
he goes back to his room andthe monster's like, I'm sorry, your
parents are shit or jerks or somethingthat would be me. So yeah,
I don't. I do not blameany parent in any story when they're like,
no, you just imagined it,because I do the same thing,
I guess though honestly, if Iheard it enough, I would I would
(10:37):
look to see what we could doto help, you know. But but
the first like ten times though,Mom's about to Mom's about to have a
breakdown with you. Okay, yeah, yeah, I would be screaming.
It's like like you're supposed can yousee a spider or like like a mouse
passing by where it's not supposed tobe. You're supposed to be the one
(11:00):
hold it together. I'm like screaming, and I'm scaring the kids because I'm
screaming, and they probably would havebeen fine just looking at the spider,
and I'm like, oh my god. Ah and then like it happened.
Still times, yeah, Kyle,my husband will come up running and he's
like, oh my god, whathappened? And it's just because I saw
something. He's like, I thoughtsomething happened to you, something happened to
(11:22):
me. Yeah, He's like,I thought, what more serious happened?
I'm like, just what serious? So yeah, I get it, I
get it, but I'm gonna tryand validate instead of denying and screaming.
Yeah, I would scream and validateanyway. Yeah, today we're gonna be
(11:45):
talking about Rojo or the Red Book. But MJ, you have how the
rules of this game for us,right, because I'm sure a lot of
us don't know. Yeah, Ididn't know about it either, and I
got the thing from the link elPortal del dott and I translated it because
(12:07):
it was in Spanish. It issaid that there are seven games prohibited by
the church. One of them happensto be the Red Book. It may
seem like a joke. There willbe those who laugh at the subject,
but the truth is that this gameis actually very dark, and if you
don't play it with all due respect, you could get into serious problems.
(12:28):
Many describe it as the game ofthe living and the dead. How dangerous
could a simple book be? Abook that anyone can have at home?
But the dangerous thing is not thebook, but the game itself. The
rules are simple, but first itis necessary to say that it is recommended
to play uncompanied at least one ortwo more people, and if you're too
susceptible, you better not try.Rules of the Red Book game Rule one,
(12:54):
an old, red hardcover book isneeded. The less information there is
on the cover, the better.Rule two. You need at least one
candle of the same color as well. Rule three. Put the Red Book
on the table and only by candlelight. No light should be on.
Rule four. One of the playersmust put his left hand on the closed
(13:16):
book. Then he must pronounce RedBook and then ask a question. It
is important to have your eyes closedso that it works correctly. Rule five.
With his left hand and his eyesstill closed, the player must run
his fingers between the pages randomly untilhe stops at one of the pages.
Then he will leave his fingers somewhereon the sheet. On the page,
(13:41):
open your eyes and read from whereyour finger is to the first point or
to the first you know, likeend of the sentence, which is a
period that appears. That will beyour answer. Sometimes the answers may not
make any sense, but that isbecause perhaps the question was poorly formulated,
or because there is no spirit presentin the book. If the answer is
coherent, it is because the gamehas begun. Rule six, last rule
(14:03):
and most important rule, Say goodbyeto the spirit before you finish playing respectfully,
ask him to leave and read bookwarnings. Although it seems like a
simple and innocent teen game, playingthe Red Book is very similar to the
Luigi perhaps in both questions things inspirits, the advice of specialist in the
(14:24):
subject is to never play the RedBook, and if you do, be
prudent when playing, because we mustnot forget that the Book is not what
answers your questions, but some entitythat waits impatiently to be invoked. And
when an entity is invoked, aportal opens. That is why the last
rule is so important. So thoseare the rules. That is, I've
(14:48):
never heard of this. It soundsvery simple and to our listeners warning,
would you try it? No,me neither. Well maybe I don't know.
Not in my house, someone else'shouse. I'd try it, and
if someone else was leading it,I'd sit during the game. I just
wouldn't be the person I just wantto be. Yeah, I just want
(15:09):
to be like a like an observer, you know, like you could like,
you know, have somebody playing it, but I'll be through the through
the watching through like a two waymirror. Yeah, just in case,
surrounded by salt through. Yeah.I'd be fine with being in the group,
(15:30):
but I wouldn't want to be leadingthe guiding the thing to find the
answers. Yeah, same thing withlike a waji board. I've never tried
it, but I would sit inwhen I just wouldn't want to be the
person holding it or I wouldn't wantto. I would I would watch people
playing it in the same room, but I wouldn't be like right there asking
(15:50):
questions at all or touching it.Yeah, no, not me. I'm
just an observer. Yeah, same, because you know what, I'm a
weenie, like I've said, Yeah, I belong in Winnie Junior with SpongeBob
and Patrick. It's just like somelike depending on the day I do believe
and you know I don't. Soyou know, depending on the day you
(16:11):
asked me, my answer switches. But even on the days that I don't,
I'm not trying it, like youknow what I mean, Yeah,
I risk it. Yeah, justin case. Welcome to our little Hunted

(18:03):
my first story is from our favoriteof spooky tales, Lauda and as if
you're a long time listener, youknow we've talked about La Manoa many times,
not just the actual legend, butlike the radio show. That's what
I'm talking about right now. Itwas hosted by Quadramon Science after someone else.
I forgot the other guy's name,Tuben Castillo. I don't remember.
(18:26):
I don't remember. That could becompletely wrong, and I'm just made that
up, like out of my ass. Literally, it was someone else before
Juandramon Science for like a year. That's when it was La, and then
it became LA and he did itfor a very long time, and now
it's still going with different hosts.I think it's like a man and a
woman. I haven't listened to anynew episodes, though, I don't know
(18:48):
what it sounds like now, Probablystill good. I should check it out.
I didn't even know they had anew one. I'm pretty sure I've
seen a new one, and didI imagine it happy my brain. It
cannot be trusted, but I thinkthere's a new one. I think it
is still going. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it is. It's it's
it's like a well known company that'slike doing it okay, so yes,
(19:12):
So unfortunately, was like all thereplays of old episodes. Sometimes I just
don't know when the calls happened orwho's calling. Sometimes they started and the
person doesn't even say their name.So this phone call, I don't know
who's calling. It's the video thatI found it on is four years old.
I don't know when the call tookplace though. But a man calls
(19:33):
Quandramne sins, and he tells himhe lives near the forest near a creek
or lake in Talpa, and Ithink it's Talpa Halisco. It could be
wrong if there's another Talpa that Ijust don't know where that is. So
he says he has a friend thatlives near this body of water, and
(19:55):
she tells has told him, liketells him repeatedly that she has heard like
Erona. And it's like a thingpeople say in her neighborhood where she lives,
that La Orona is heard there. And so he's like, nobody,
none of their friend group, likethey didn't believe her. So they one
day they were like, let's allgo and try and hear La Rona.
So they go, they go.They're just it's nighttime. They're hanging out
(20:18):
her house and they start drinking alittle bit, not a lot, and
they decided to start playing a gamecalled a Liberal Rojo and the Red Book,
And so they're sitting in a group. One of them is in front
of the book to guide the answers. The rest of them are holding hands
around the book and they're asking questions. And so the first questions that they're
(20:40):
asking, they're not really getting answers. They're incoherent. But as they go
on and play to play, oras they continue the game, some of
the answers make sense. Still, they're a little like off. Then suddenly
the lights went out and they allgot scared. But then they decided it
was because of the rain, becausethey had been raining heavily, and you
know, the power just sometimes goesout. But then the friend that says,
(21:04):
oh, I hear La Yona allthe time here, she was like,
no, it's not because of therain. This is always how it
starts. The light goes off,and then we all hear Laurona. But
then the light came back on andthey were like, whatever, she's full
of shit. But then they didn'tsee her anywhere. They were like,
where'd she go? They thought shewas playing a joke on them, So
(21:26):
they walk around the house looking forher. She's nowhere to be seen.
They check out the rooms like nothing, so they're like, what is happening?
They thought maybe she was playing ajoke on them. One of the
friends in the group said they shouldgo outside to look for her, and
the rest of them were too scared. But then eventually they agree to go
(21:47):
outside and look for her. Theystopped being wheenies, oh my god,
because they can't find her. Sothey go outside and this friend she happens
to be like the closest house tothis blake, and so there's like a
big rock first, and then thelake, and this area by the big
rock is where La Rona's usually heard. So they started walking toward that rock
(22:11):
and the lake. Because they're lookingaround, they don't see her anywhere.
They're like, maybe she went thatway. I don't know why, but
whatever, So they start going thatway. They're all together. I imagine
they're holding hands together. I wouldbe yeah, So they're all they're all
together, they don't want to splitup, and they're walking towards that and
(22:32):
so maybe five minutes passed, andsuddenly within those five minutes there was a
drastic temperature drop, not normal forthe time of night either, like that.
The temperature should have been steady bythe time they got out there,
you know, it shouldn't be thatcold. Suddenly it was. It was
too cold all of a sudden. They were even more scared. So then
(22:53):
they all started yelling talking at thesame time. I imagine they're all like,
no, Ma, myths a laberga, just screaming and scared. And
so once they're all done arguing aboutwhether they should stay there being scared whatever,
and they're all quiet, they hearda scream in their distance, the
scream of a woman, and they'relike, fuck this, it's like urona.
(23:14):
They heard dogs barking right almost likewith the scream. Dogs were barking,
And then there was like a movementin the water, like if someone
you know, the sound of likewalking in water, like if someone was
getting out of a leak. Ihate it, I hate im. I'm
scaring myself. Anyway, so theystarted getting out, they started hearing that
(23:34):
sound, and they were like fuckthis. They ran back to the house
and as fast as they could, and they forgot they were looking for their
food. As soon as they gotyeah, right as soon as they got
back inside the house, the lightcame back on and they're like, okay,
that's weird. And then they heardsound from one of the rooms,
(23:56):
so they're all scared in One ofthe friends in the group agreed to go
look in the room, and thereshe was sleeping. But it didn't make
any sense because before going outside, they searched the house. They searched every
room and she wasn't in there. Before they left, they tried to wake
her up to be like what thefuck, Like you just scared the shit
out of us, Like are youare you trying to pull a bass one
(24:18):
on us? Are you trying topull a prank? Like this isn't funny.
She wouldn't wake up. For whateverreason, she didn't wake up,
and then like morning time came andshe's like, I swear that I wasn't
trying to prank you guys. Idon't remember anything. I don't remember going
outside. All she remembers is layingdown because she was very tired after the
(24:38):
blights went out. That's all sheremembers. To this day. None of
them understand what the fuck happened.Whoever. The guy that was calling,
he's like, I don't know ifit was the game, the Red Book
game. It was like yourna,I don't know why she disappeared and then
suddenly appeared in her room. Whatthe hell those screams were? But they
never played the game again, andthey never is it their friend again.
(25:03):
They're like, you have to cometo us. Now, we're not going
to your house anymore. Yeah,And now I was like, that's terrifying.
That is so scary. I knowI was. I got a little
scared. I'm like, my doglived a little bit, and I was
like, oh my god, whatwas that? Okay, my second story
I found on Reddit. Suddenly Iforgot to see what subreddit I got it
(25:26):
from, and I didn't save thelink. That's wrong with me. But
it was submitted by a user lovelykiller Bunny four years ago. This story
is a true event that happened. Then they put this in like all capital
letters do not play the game readBook. Okay, So we were all
in eighth grade and we were allobsessed with abandoned places, traveling ghosts,
(25:51):
etc. That's natural, yes,And since we knew that we were all
departing to different high schools. Wewanted to have one last fun time together
as a friend group while we stillcould. My friend group consisted of six
people, including myself. For thesake of their privacy, I will not
use their real names. My closestfriend at the time was Mike. He
(26:11):
lived in the house where all ofthis took place. He was very funny
and cool, but his parents wereextremely religious, so I'm still surprised he
was down to let us play thesegames at his house. Then there was
Jenna, who I have known sinceelementary and she had a weird love connection
with Mike. Strange detail, butokay. Joey and Caroline were cool too.
(26:33):
Joey was best friends with Mike sincethey were kids. Caroline was very
loud and outgoing, and she claimedthat she could feel spirits. I still
think it's a bunch of bullshit.Lastly, it was Alan and I.
He had this disturbing, obsessive crushon me. What the fuck? Okay,
So, of course during the wholesleepover, I was a little uncomfortable.
(26:56):
Why is he in your friend groups? My question? Anyways, we
had been planning the sleepover for acouple of weeks and it finally started to
approach us. We planned to playchildish games like Bloody Mary Baby Blue.
Side note, what is baby Blue? I don't know. I've never heard
of that one either, and maybewe're too old. I gotta look that
one up. If any of ourlisteners know what that is, let us
(27:19):
know. During this whole sleepover andthe planet of it, we all promised
one thing, do not mess withthe ghosts if we do encounter them.
The day finally came and we allshowed up to school with our regular backpacks
and a bag with Pj's toothbrushes andso on. The school there was exciting
thinking about all the fun stuff wewere going to do after school. At
(27:41):
the end of the day, wewalked to Mike's house. He lived pretty
close to school. It was abouta seven minute walk. All of my
friends were loud and funny, whichwas nice considering I was sort of quiet.
This made the walk pretty fun.We made it to Mike's place and
we set all our stuff down.Mike's family had a good amount of money,
so he had a really nice house. The weirdest details all right.
(28:02):
We spent the first few hours messingaround. They went swimming, for a
little I couldn't because I was onthat time of the month. We walked
to seven eleven to get slushies andcandy. We went to a little playground
in the middle of his neighborhood, took a couple pictures for the social media.
So far, the day was goingcompletely as planned and it was one
of the best days of my life. We got back to us house and
(28:25):
suddenly it was pretty dark, sowe played hide and Seek for a while.
It was around nine it was finallytime to start playing the games.
We started off with the game Concentrate, which is a game where you close
your eyes and the person behind youstates a ritual about several ways you could
die. What the hell, I'venever heard of this? All right.
(28:47):
At the end, you're supposedly onan edge of a building in your mind,
and the person behind you pretends topush you. Whatever color flushes in
your mind while you're being pushed correspondswith how you die. Most of us
colors like blue, white, orgreen, which means drowning, passing away
and going to heaven, and fallingoff a building. Wow, okay,
why would you do that. Itwasn't until we got to Alan that we
(29:11):
all started to get a little creepedout. It was his turn. We
all sat on Mike's bed while Joeystood behind. Alan entered the ritual.
When Alan was pushed off the buildingin his mind, he was silent.
We asked what color he got andhe said the color black. Oh.
I had to copy and paste allof the games and rules we were going
to play into my notes on myphone. I turned on my phone and
(29:33):
went straight to notes, scrolling tosee what the color black means black.
They will dive old age and goto hell. Oh wow, Okay,
Sorry Alan, No, sorry,Joey, Who was it Alan? Sorry?
Allen. Most of us aren't religious. So we brushed it off and
tried it again, and he keptgetting the color black. Clearly being disturbed
(29:56):
by this, Caroline suggested to playanother game. We all agreed. We
moved on to a game called RedBook. You play Red Book by getting
into a circle around the red bookthat you have. Everyone playing puts their
hand on the cover of the bookwhen it's their turn, closing their eyes
and asking red Book, can Ienter your game. You keep your eyes
closed and flip through the book, randomly, stopping at any stop in the
(30:18):
book that you want, and youpoint your finger anywhere on the page.
When you open your eyes and seewhere your finger landed, that is the
answer to your question. If yougot a positive answer something related to accepting
you in the book, then youcan start playing. If it says no
or something random, you move onto the next person and wait until it's
your turn to ask again. Idecided not to play because I had a
(30:41):
gut feeling and I had to readthe rules if anyone had questions. It
took a while to get everyone intothe game, but once everyone got accepted
by the book, I remindered everyonethat we will not disturb the ghosts if
we do encounter them, to whichthey all agreed. Caroline also decided not
to play because she was afraid,so she stayed on her phone while blasting
(31:02):
Lady Gaga in her earphone. Thegame started and it was boring. Every
question we had ended with an unrelatedanswer, and we all started to give
up hope until the answers started tobecome weirdly coincidental. How old are you?
He was thirteen years young. Weall looked at each other, Some
were freaked out, some were excitedthat we were finally getting somewhere. The
(31:25):
game continued and the answers were veryaccurate. Is anyone else with you?
They are frightening. I asked Jennawhere she got to Spook, and she
says she just found it on abookshelf in her house. It didn't even
have a title. It was Alan'sturn. How did you die? We
all started yelling at him to stop, since we agreed we wouldn't ask this
(31:45):
question, but he wouldn't stop.He kept flipping through the pages and he
was silent. He wasn't moving otherthan his fingers flipping through the pages.
We kept yelling, but he stillkept going, almost like he was paralyzed.
What scared us was when he gotto the end of the book.
He started flipping backwards and he wouldn'tstop. Finally, he dragged his fingers
(32:07):
up and down the page, stoppingtowards the middle. We kept yelling at
him, asking why he would dothat, but he still didn't say anything.
Joey grabbed a book to where hisfingers stopped. It read we shouldn't
speak of this. We all lookedup at Allan and he was shaking.
Jenna asked him, asked him, what's wrong? But he just kept shaking.
(32:30):
Suddenly he started crying. He puthis face in his hands, and
he fell into Mike's arms. Alanhas had panic attacks before, so we
thought it was another panic attack.By the time Mike calmed him down,
we asked what happened. Alan saidhe doesn't remember anything. He blacked out.
Everyone agreed we should end the game, but Alan said no. We
(32:51):
tried convincing him to leave the game, but he kept saying no. So
they continued, which I thought wasso fucking dumb, but it was majority
rule, and I knew that noneof them were going to listen to me.
The more they asked questions, thecreepier it got. Where are you
The door handle was cold. Weall looked up at the bedroom door.
It was locked. Everyone was scared, so we all agreed to end the
(33:15):
game. But suddenly Alan talked, for the first time since his last turn,
I have one more question. Weall looked at him like he was
crazy. We kept telling him no, but when I got back to him,
we were expecting him to ask thebook if he could leave, what
do you want with me? Heclosed his eyes and flipped through the pages.
He stopped at the end of thebook on a blank page. He
(33:38):
started scratching at his legs and hethrew the book. The room was dead,
silent. He looked like he couldn'tbreathe. His veins started popping out
of his neck and he started breathinghard. Alan, are you okay?
Joey was the first one to talkto him. For what seemed like hours,
Alan looked up at us finally, and he looked very mad. He
(33:59):
lunged at Joey and he just startedscratching his bag while breathing heavily. Jenna
jumped onto the bed with Caroline andI I'm not gonna lie. I was
crying because of how much was goingon. Mike yanked Alan off Joy and
he pulled him back against the wall. Joy was able to stand up and
stand on the other side of theroom. It took a while for Allan
(34:19):
to calm down, but when hedid, Joey looked like he was attacked
by a wild animal. There werescratches all over his back and sides,
some so deep that his blood stainedthe rim of his shorts. Mike calmed
Alan down again, and none ofus spoke for about twenty minutes. We
just stared at the book and atAlan. Joey spoke first. Okay,
everyone calmed down. Allan was probablyjust messing around, right Allan. By
(34:43):
Alan didn't speak, we all knewthat he would never do this. He
was one of the nicest people Ihad ever met, and he wouldn't even
hurt a fly. We spent therest of the night calming down and making
jokes, trying to forget what justhappened. But none of us could ever
forget about this. Words can't evendescribe every detail how inhuman Alan looked.
Everyone agreed not to play any othergames and just watch movies and go to
(35:06):
bed. Even then, no onefell asleep until three or four in the
morning. That morning, Mike's momfound out at her being the quirky,
hippie religious I feel like those don'tgo together, but okay, that she
is. She had this group hugand she suggested we burned the book.
I was a little hesitant because joeand Alan hadn't left the game yet.
(35:28):
I was about to ask that, but everyone else agreed, so we went
outside and gathered around the book.We don't tell anyone about this, okay,
Mike said. We all agreed, but I told my dad anyway,
because I'm really close to him andI was already planted on telling them.
She said, bitch, you're not. I'm telling whoever I want. I'm
pretty sure we all told our parents. We let Allan do the honors of
(35:50):
burning the book. After that,we just went on with our day.
We watched movies and eight Cereal. No one talked about it. Everyone got
picked up one by one, andwhen I got picked up, we took
Caroline home because she lived a blockaway from me. I told my dad
and he suggested that he could havebeen faking it. I agreed, and
we stopped talking about it. It'sbeen almost two years now, and I
(36:13):
go to a completely different high school. They all go to the city's most
well known high school. These aren'tnecessarily Oh now it makes sense that I
was written by a high schooler.Yes, I talked to Mike maybe once
or twice. I've talked to Jennaonce. Other than that, I don't
talk to any of the others. We haven't brought up the experience at all.
(36:37):
I still have videos of us messingaround on Snapchat and you can see
the aftermath on Joey's back. Alanasked me if I wanted to go out
sometime after the sleepover, but Isaid fuck no, No, she didn't
write that. I added that, but she said no. I have an
amazing boyfriend now and I haven't hada paranormal experience since. I still wonder
if Alan was actually joking, orif it was a prank gone wrong,
(37:00):
or if we did contact spirits thatnight. All I have to say is,
don't play red book. A lotof the comments were like this fucker
gotta possessed. Also, I wouldhave kicked his ass out. Yeah,
after scratching me up like that,I'd be like, get out of get
out, get what is happening?Like, no, go be possessed by
(37:20):
yourself somewhere else. I don't carehow good of a friend you are.
I would have like going straight uplike, I'm sorry, you're scratching me,
you're about to get you're ship rocked, you're about to get got,
you're about asleep, sir, seriously, to keep playing games with this with
this food after he scratched you uplike that, No, I would have
(37:42):
left. If I was to scratchthe guy. First of all, I
would have gone to the doctor becauseI don't know if this fool washes his
hands. What if his nails aredirty and he was scratching you like that.
It's infection waiting to happen. Nothanks, even at even at that
age, whenever it say eighth grade, I've been like, no, I'm
out. I'm not staying here.Sammy agrees. If you could hear them
(38:07):
laughing. I have one more, but I feel like it's not as good
as the other one. This isfrom the three Kings subreddits. This next
one, but I accidentally didn't writethe user name. There's always going to
be something messing with me. I'msorry. So this person whoever the user
name was, my bad. Ihaven't saved. I'll put it in the
(38:28):
show notes. I'll put the linksif I remember. I'm so sorry.
I'm the worst. I remember inshow notes for this podcast. Phrase study
asn't known. I always put them. I don't know why. I don't
want to understand anyway. So myfriends and I did the Red Book ritual
game on Friday night. We usedEldest by Christopher Paoloni because it was the
(38:49):
thickest red hardcover book we could findin the library. Some of the answers
we got were pretty cryptic, butsome were extremely straightforward. For example,
one of my friends asked if hewould ever be cheated on, and the
answer was a young man came aseduce her with words of love. The
book said yes. The weirdest thingabout the experience was that it took an
(39:10):
hour before the spirit let everyone intothe game. Oh my god, this
sounds like the other story where theysaid it took a while to get let
into the game. Oh okay, that's strange. I don't like it that
these are similar. Wow. Theweirdest thing about the experience was that it
took an hour before the spirit leteveryone into the game except for me.
(39:30):
We ended it after ninety minutes andI hadn't been accepted into the game at
all. It also seemed to havestrong emotions toward one of my friends who
got accepted around the sixteen minute mark. When he was asking to play the
game, all his responses were quitedark and violent, stuff about murder,
torture, and not get in away with what you've done. Most of
(39:52):
the applies to his questions were alongthose lines too, except for when he
asked about his girlfriend. The spiritgave a really positive answer, something about
their wings and flying. It wentsouth for a bit. When he tried
to leave the game, everyone managedto leave except for him and another friend.
When the other friend asked if hecould leave, the answer was something
along the lines of go away then, but if you leave, I will
(40:14):
cauterize you. What the hell?Oh my god. They got repeatedly angry
and negative answers every time they triedto leave, until eventually the spirit let
them go. The friend who hadbeen getting consistently dark responses from the spirit
got a poem when he asked toleave for the last time, and it
went, gone gone, you shallbe from me, and I will never
(40:36):
see you again. Gone gone,You shall be from me, though I
wait for you evermore. What thehell? Kind of creepy, But that's
what we were looking for, Soall in all, it was a good
experience. Of course, I'm bummedthat I wasn't accepted into the game at
all, but it was fun tohear everyone else's answers regardless. On a
(40:57):
lighter note, one of my friendsgot accepted into the game and the first
round and was the one asking questionsfor a stallard. Twenty to thirty minutes,
he ran out of questions and startedasking whatever popped into his head like,
well, I ever be comfortable wearinglong pants parentheses he hates wearing jeans.
The answer from the book was somethingalong the lines of stop pestering me.
(41:21):
So I told my friend to aska more serious question. His next
question was equally as ridiculous, andthe answer from the book was a blank
spot. Every time he asked anon serious question, he would get a
blank spot the end. I don'tlike how similar the last his stories were.
Yeah, I don't like it atall. How they all said it
(41:42):
took a while to get into thegame, and I wonder, I guess
maybe the other the second story, maybe they just didn't try to leave the
game and they just burned the book. Yeah, I don't under like it's
too bad, like the op isnot in contact with the people she did
it with to see it like followup, like, hey, did anymore
happen? It is alan still Yeah, yeah, but that I don't know.
(42:10):
All these stories were creepy and thereI thought the last one wasn't going
to be like I thought it wasgoing to be pretty lame. But no,
it was not too bad. Itwas not that bad. But yeah,
I don't I don't like the similaritiesbetween those two. Yeah. Same.
Yeah, I don't think I wouldeven sit and watch someone play this
(42:30):
game. I changed my mind. But but yeah, I guess that's all
we have for this episode before wego. Do you have any spooky recommendations?
No, I have again, notwatching anything aside from reading the book
(42:50):
for Oh. Yes, I willprobably finish it in the next like three
days. Yeah, I'm done.I finished ning and editing work, so
I haven't listened to it. Yeah. I finished it last night. It
was so good. I am reallyliking it so far. Obviously we're going
to talk about it in the bookClub episode, so I will save my
comments. All they're other than Ihate Matthew. Oh my god. I
(43:15):
never wanted to jump in a bookand like and beat your living shit out
of someone. Yes, okay, that's a lie. There's a few books,
but specifically this one. Oh yeah, I know too many Matthews.
I've dated a Matthew. Oh,I'm so sorry. It was traumatizing.
Oh, I'm sure, I'm sotraumatized. I'm trying to think if I
(43:40):
have any spooky recommendations. But Ialso haven't been watching anything because again,
I've been drowning in editing work.Oh you know what, No, I
did listen to an episode of It'sHaunted What Now today while I was doing
some stuff that don't require me tolisten to, like whatever video I was
(44:01):
editing, so I was able tohear something while doing that other than because
if I don't do that, Iwill start yawning, like if I'm doing
something repetitive, my ass look atsleepy like and ye a minute, like
it's bad. So I have tohave like something else happening at the same
time. So I put on thatpodcast and yeah, it's it's good.
(44:22):
It's hosted by Laney. She's afriend of the pod. People sending their
stories to her and she narrates themand she has a beautiful voice, very
soothing. And you know what,if you want a serious, scary podcast
with one person, no interruptions, just straight through a story, listen to
her podcast and don't leave us aone star review. I haven't talked about
(44:45):
it, but we got another onethat was like they can't read and they
go on side what side something, side quest side. No, they wouldn't
use side questions because that's our thing. Yeah, side conversations. I don't
side tracks. They put can't readand get sidetracked, and I'm like,
that's literally our thing, and thenI and then I'm like, we born
(45:06):
you guys. Every episode was likewe can't read and they don't understand English.
We're both fun. I mean,I don't know how many times we
said it. And so I thinkit's a little unfair to live a one
star review with something you were warnedabout. It's like, I don't know,
being mad because you went to thelake and got wet, Like,
come on, you were warned. It's like going to the beach and being
(45:28):
mad that you got stand in yourshoes. So yeah, and it's okayal
like that one better, but yeah, it doesn't make any sense. So
again, we cannot read, wedon't know English or Spanish, like come
on, yeah, like we're neurospicy. You know we're gonna be on tangents
and side quests because that's the wayour brain works. And honestly, like,
(45:52):
you don't know how No, Idon't think I can stress enough how
much editing happens to make the storiesmore coherent, because sometimes I will be
reading and skip a word and haveto go back because I messed up the
sentence or replace again because because Ihave a DHDA same same with like both
of us do it, and youknow what, we try to make it
(46:13):
as coherent as possible, but we'renot perfect. And I don't think we
have monotone voices because they also saidwe have monotone voices. Yeah, I
don't think so, because I youknow, like they tell us we're either
too bubbly or and now we're gettingwe're not bubbling, like what do you
want from me? Yeah? Whatdo you want from me? Now we
get comments like oh they laugh toomuch, they're too happy, and then
(46:35):
we're like, oh, you guys, and now we're too monotone, like
come on, what is it?What do you want from us? What
do you want? But you knowwhat, shout out to the spookies who
reached out, and we're like,I love that you guys laugh and get
sidetracked. It's like talking to orit's like listening to cousins or or like
(46:58):
to the cool das for the genZ listener, you know, like the
yeah, so we're I mean, like we know who we're here for,
and it's not for people who wantlike a serious podcast, come on,
yeah, because sometimes like listen sometimesyou come across some stories that are like
straight up what the fuck, andthey're funny, like I know, like
(47:20):
the person in the story is probablyscared and terrified, but from an outsider
looking in, it's hilarious and I'mgonna laugh. I'm sorry, yeah,
or I guess so scared. I'mgonna laugh, Like you know, it's
just what we do. It's normal. Yeah, what is it? Like?
It's called dark humor leave still exactly. Yeah. I mean maybe one
day I will stop sharing the onestar reviews and being like, come on
(47:44):
and stop complaining about them. Buttoday it's not that day anyway. Anything
else to add before we go?No, all right, well a Spookies
throw away all your Red Books.Oh no, the book we're currently reading
without the cover's red really Oh mygod, I didn't know that. But
(48:07):
it's not old, so you can'tuse it for the Red Book. It
has to be an old Red Book. Okay. Well it's like yeah,
like it's like if you take offthe cover, the paper cover because I
have a hard hard yeah, youhave a hard cover, and then like
in twenty years you can use itin the Red Book game. Oh I
didn't know that because I have theaudiobook. Yeah that's good to know.
(48:30):
