Seven of Swords
Welcome to season 8 of this podcast, where I am talking all about the Suit of Swords. I’ll be going through each card in the suit, one per episode.
What we explore in this episode:
The Seven of Swords as a card of deception, manipulation, and cunning
Symbolism across decks: cataclysm, masked figures, spies, fighting, and self-sabotage
Why this card often asks us to reflect on our own patterns of avoidance or denial
The tension between clever strategy and sneaky behavior
How intuition and inner honesty help us avoid repeating painful patterns
Pictures from the decks I talked about today referenced from left to right:
Anima Mundi Tarot Deck by Megan Wyreweden
In this episode, we dive deep into the shadowy landscape of the Seven of Swords. This card doesn’t always point to betrayal by others—it can also reveal where we’re deceiving ourselves, avoiding uncomfortable truths, or slipping back into habits that keep us small. From masked figures and snake imagery to clever escapes and harsh realizations, this card asks: Are you ready to tell yourself the truth? Are you willing to let go of outdated strategies that no longer serve you?
This is a card that whispers, “Work smarter, not harder.” But it also says: “Stop gaslighting yourself.” It reminds us that cleverness without self-awareness can turn into sabotage. But with compassion and clarity, we can step out from behind the mask and choose authenticity.

Today's Tarot Pull:
From The Citadel: A Fantasy Oracle by Fen Inkwright, I pulled The Miser (reversed). In the upright position, The Miser warns of control, rigidity, and clinging too tightly to what no longer serves. Reversed, it asks: ‘Where can I loosen my grip? What structures have I inherited or created that no longer support growth, but instead suffocate it?’
This card invites a reckoning with scarcity mindsets, with patterns of domination or fear-based control, and with the parts of us that resist change even when it’s necessary.
Reflective prompts on this card:
What truth am I avoiding because I’m afraid of what will happen if I name it?
Where am I clinging to control instead of allowing flexibility and trust?
What pattern, relationship, or belief feels safe but is actually keeping me stuck?
