Welcome to Season 18, where I'm talking all about color magic.
(01:49):
If you haven't listened to my other seasons yet, you can check
those out. And today I'm talking about the
color silver for our final episode of this season.
So we'll go through talk about the color silver.
We'll talk about color magic theory and correspondences
someday of the week, correspondences.
And then we'll get into silver and how it shows up in tarot
(02:10):
cards. And then we'll finally work pull
a card about how can we work with the color silver today?
All right, OK, so let's get intothe color silver.
So silver or metallic grey is a color tone resembling grey as a
representation of the color of polished silver.
(02:31):
The visual sensation usually associated with the metal silver
is a metallic shine. This cannot be reproduced by a
simple solid color. So, right, if you look, try to
look at things that are like silver, but depicted right in
like it's just hard to do because part of the aspect of it
(02:52):
is it's shiny, whereas gold sortof does both, right?
If you think of the element of gold or metallic gold, right,
that is one thing. But then we also have like
golden sunlight and golden hair, which are more yellow, right,
Tech like perhaps technically, but we like to call them golden
because of again, a bit of a shiny effect of it.
(03:13):
But between silver and Gray, right, Really the only
difference is the metallic Ness of it.
And when we think about, right, how silver shows up on a
computer screen or ATV, there's like no mechanism for showing
metallic or fluorescent colours on a computer without trying to
(03:33):
use software that simulates the action of light on a shiny
surface, right? That reflective aspect, again,
if you think about something reflecting in a body of water,
right, that is part of that likeshimmeriness, right?
There's an aspect of that that is associated with silver as
well, right? It uses the materials brightness
varying with the surface angle to the light source, which
(03:55):
again, if you think about being outside, right, if you see
reflections and bodies of water, right, often I know like where I
live, it's like at sunset where you have the sun is getting low.
And if you see a body of water there, it will reflect like the
clouds into the body of water. But right, that's only working
because of the angle of the light source, the sun and then
(04:17):
the brightness of the water and how it reflects back.
And so in art and then also in like heraldry or like clothing,
heraldry is the design, display and study of like armor.
So again, if you think about like a night and the silveriness
there, you would typically use metallic paint that glitters
(04:40):
like real silver in order to like depict silver.
So a matte Gray color could alsobe used to represent silver.
And again, they sort of show this on the Wikipedia page, so
if you want to check it out, youcan do so.
And it's, we don't, like, there's not a lot on here about
silver. So the first recorded use of
(05:01):
silver as a color name in English was in the 1400s and in
heraldry. Or again, like in medieval right
times where we would have like, yeah, I guess I just think of
like a Knight's armor. It says the word Argent is used,
which is comes from the medievalFrench word which are like a
(05:24):
tincture, the colors, metals andfurs used in heraldry, which
again are like an aspect of the armor, like amoral beings.
So it could be like a coat of arms or again like things like
that. So very interesting there.
(05:45):
Silver, of course, is also an element, right?
You can get silver, you know, bricks of silver or silver
jewelry, right? Again, last episode talked about
gold, right? Silver is similar.
If you use crayons as a child, there is a color called silver
in the Crayola crayons. It's a pale tone of silver
(06:06):
color. And Crayola silver is not a
neutral grayscale color, but a warm Gray with a slight tinge of
orange, red again, probably to give it that sort of like
shininess. There's also different types of
silver colors, which is very interesting to me.
(06:28):
I don't think I knew that. There's also plants and animals
that are called like silver. So there's a silver Birch tree,
silver fir, a silver Maple that has Lacy delicate leaves that
are lighter Gray or greenish on the underside and it gives a
shimmering effect with the 2 tone leaves.
Yeah, there are some trees that like the up.
(06:50):
Like if you were to look at the tree from above, the top part of
the leaf is maybe like waxy or shiny and, or looks one color
and then underneath it looks a different color.
I'm like Magnolia leaves are like this, a lot of like waxy or
leaves are like this. But also, yeah, I think like
cottonwoods are like this. They don't have the waxyness,
(07:12):
but they have the two toned leaves.
So when the wind goes, it looks like fluttering because you see
like it's like as if you use oneof those like flip books as a
kid where you like draw everything out.
And then when you, you know, go quickly, it looks like, you
know, things are moving right. It looks like a fluttering back
and forth like you. You depict the movement of it.
(07:34):
There's silver fish that are actually an insect.
There's fish that have silver colour.
There's a silver fox, which is agenetically determined phase of
the common red fox in which the pelt is black tipped with white.
And a silverback gorilla is an adult male gorilla, right?
And they do look sort of silvery.
I mean, again, it's kind of likea human having Gray hair.
(07:56):
But I think because of like there's something about the
reflectiveness like the silver back gorilla that gives it more
of a, a silvery that versus a Gray kind of look.
And then let's jump over into, you know, more color magic
correspondences, magical theory here.
So I'm pulling this from ericarcadianswebsite.com.
(08:20):
Color magic theory and correspondences the Part 2
article from August 20th, 2024 and they go all through color
magic and correspondences. So again, if you like this
season, go check out this article that they have.
They talk about the history of color evolving to see color
right, because most animals see color differently and so right.
(08:42):
We know this about a lot of insects or even other like, you
know, nocturnal creatures or other mammals even like to see
things very differently, what colours are available to them.
And of course it's very hard forus to to ever know what colours
we see versus like even another human.
But if we think about seasonal colours for the different
(09:06):
associations with each of the subbots, here's they have a
chart here to talk about what they mean.
So for silver, they talk about it as being associated with
winter solstice, along with darkred and dark green, and then in
bulk with white, pink and silver.
And again, when I think about it, I'm like, yeah, those times
of year in the Northern hemisphere are the snowy times
(09:29):
of year, right? You have more of the like we
have Sowin right at the end of like October, early November and
then winter solstice right in December, which is often, at
least where I live, that kind ofsometimes is when it starts
actually getting snowy and then in bulk in right February often
(09:52):
or is yeah, at least where I live, like January, February or
actually when we get more snow, it's like been colder for longer
because you have the, you know, we've had the the darker light
from, you know, as we go into the winter solstice, but then it
continues right, for another month or two before it starts.
(10:14):
I mean, you know, it gets lighter every day, but before.
So we have like the darkest daysof the year.
And then in addition to the coldof winter, right with I, we get
a lot of precipitation here. So sometimes ours turns to snow.
Yeah. So that was interesting.
And then gold. If you listened to last episode,
(10:34):
you'll know this. But are the 2 are associated
with like some of the holidays, Luke, NASA and autumn equinox.
So we almost go like into right,we go gold, gold and then we
have kind of like orange, red, black for sow and and then we go
silver, silver, and then we movemore into yellows, pinks, greens
(10:58):
for springtime and then more towards like yellows, greens,
Reds for summer. So it's kind of interesting.
The other thing is that for likecorrespondences, so right, you
can think of certain candles or again, like different things
there. But our altar clothes candle
(11:20):
magic, right? It's kind of hard to have a
silver candle again, maybe you'dhave to have that sort of
metallic element of it, something that's shiny.
Let's see here. But with the moon, right, that
does often get associated with silver or white.
So in my days of the week correspondences, moon day or the
(11:42):
day that's associated with the moon is on Monday with white.
So silver would also fall into that because it is associated
with like the like the lunar aspect.
And again, sort of in the same way that like the sun is more of
the gold yellow tones, right? The moon gets associated with
silver, white grayer, sort of subconscious underworld tones of
(12:07):
it. And here it says, you know, on
my days of the week correspondences white to the
moon and lunar deities for Monday associated with magic,
dealing with cooking, dreams, family, the home, intuition,
medicine, spiritual growth and the ocean.
All right. And then I'm trying to see if
there's anything else here in this article that used silver,
(12:32):
but I don't think so. OK, so let's get into tarot
decks. So again, because silver is sort
of hard to depict, you know, I, I used my own, my own
interpretation here of silver, but I kind of tried to pick
things that you had a bit more of that reflective element or
(12:53):
like playing with the light in adifferent way than just grey.
And I didn't do an episode on grey.
So we'll probably also be encompassing part of that here.
But first I pulled from the Sassa Rapito Tarot deck by
Stassia Burrington. I pulled the Knight of Cups, the
(13:14):
Star, and the Nine of Swords. So the Knight of Cups was the
first one I saw. It sort of depicts a person in
this image that's holding a cup of a hot liquid coffee or tea.
It looks brownish, dark. They have a book under their
arm. I think I maybe talked about
this in the blue episode becauseit also has very blue tones.
(13:34):
But again, if you think of silver, right, it gets
associated with sort of the coolbluer, bluer colors, whereas
gold gets associated with the warmer orange or yellow colors.
And so here we have this one. And again, it kind of has this
like it looks like almost white steam or smoke coming out of the
cup. But because of the blue and the
white and we actually see some like shadows or highlights on
(13:57):
the person, It almost looks as if perhaps the moon is like
reflecting on them and cups, right, associated with water or
the, you know, emotions sort of element.
The knight of cups here, sensitive, poetic,
temperamental, let's see a hopeless romantic.
(14:20):
It says introspective and swoonseasily ability to find beauty
and everything is inspiring. And that really makes me think
of sort of the again, kind of like how the moon gets depicted
in tarot as the sort of, you know, perhaps like more
temperamental or like sensitive side or the more underworld
(14:43):
element of it, subconscious, that kind of thing.
Then I pulled the star because again, we have greys here.
But then we have this sort of like white aspect depicting the
Milky Way, I believe here. And it shows an astronaut that's
(15:04):
sort of like attached with a, you know, a cord of some kind
probably to their ship. And they're out floating in
space. And then we see kind of again,
what I would say is like the Milky Way behind them and then
they're in a black sky with kindof white, you know, stars
showing up. And the star is full of hope,
joy, lightheartedness, free flowing love, optimistic,
(15:26):
trusting, excited and inspired. The explorer is open minded,
serene and generous. Says that's a card directly
after the tower. The star represents the calm
after the storm. And I feel like that's kind of
how silver is right Again, of Gray is the is the storm.
Silver becomes as the sort of metallic reflective element
afterwards. I don't know why that makes
(15:48):
sense. In my mind, it says the star is
the astronomer, the navigator, the explorer, right?
So here a Major Arcana card. And again, the star does get
associated right in this deck. It's in particular with like
space, like astronomy, like a literal star, which a gun kind
of gets like associated more so with like the moon, the
intuition, the romantic side, right?
(16:12):
The sort of not as good as a of of a light source, right?
The moon, right, really that we can really see the moon only
because the sun gets reflected off of it.
And then finally, I pulled the Nine of Swords, which, you know,
maybe not so much as a traditional depiction of like
silver, but here, right, the swords, they really stood out to
(16:33):
me in this image. I looked at other swords cards
that sort of looked silver. But the swords in this
particular image, of course, there's a lot of them.
They actually have different kinds of swords in this one.
Like they have different hilts, like the part that you hold
onto. And swords are often about,
right, the intellectual side, they're the air sign.
You think of how they like cut through the air.
(16:55):
That's what I think of. But also right, swords can be
like biting, right? They can be harmful.
But like if you think about likeusing your words sort of the
intellectual side of things likewit or sarcasm, but it can be
biting. Like it can be kind of go into
the again, more painful side of things.
(17:17):
And the Nine of Swords, right, is very much about that.
It's about overthinking and angst and stress, emotional
turmoil, right? So again, we kind of have like
you have the Night of Cups, which is the more like serene
version of like emotions, right? They feel calm, they feel
centered. They have their cozy stuff.
You have the star here that's more like we're floating.
We're like available for what's out there.
(17:39):
We're out in space. We can like see, we have
perspective, right, Because you can see perhaps the Earth from
there. You can see different things,
but also you're in this like liminal space, right?
Space literally like if you're out in it, you just float right?
There's no gravity. That's part of the challenge
when you're in space. And then we have the nine of
swords, right, which kind of goes to the other side of like,
(18:01):
oh, okay, now we're having difficulty juggling all of our
thoughts. We have overwhelm, we have
caution and guilt. So again, kind of the more like
shadowy darker side of again, like more the subconscious or
like our unconscious selves, right.
Sometimes can just like that anxiety can run underneath a lot
of acting like we're fine and everything is cool and yeah,
(18:26):
it's totally fine. That makes sense.
Yeah. I don't need to like be worried
about that. That makes that makes total
sense. But anxiety, it's not very
rational. We like to, you know, try to
attack it with with with rationality, but anxiety is sort
of right, having a hard time if depression is about getting
(18:49):
stuck in the past or things thathappen and wanting to kind of
wishing we did them differently.Anxiety is about, you know,
hoping that we do things differently in the future or
trying to perhaps control the things that, you know, trying to
make the perfect kind of thing come in the future.
So for those of us that strugglewith more perfectionism or
having really high standards forourselves or like can get caught
(19:10):
up in your head, right? This is another thing that
really comes up, right? Anxiety becomes very prevalent
in our lives. And it just says this card is a
reminder that a lot of your suffering is intellectually
rooted. And again, sometimes for those
of us that struggle with anxiety, like the main thing is
that actually like, no matter how hard you try, you will never
(19:31):
be perfect. No one is.
And so right by by desiring to control the future, we're trying
to control the fact that that wemight make mistakes, but in
reality, that's not a thing we can control.
We can do our best. We can write, forgive, or try to
make good on things that we may have done wrong or if we've hurt
(19:53):
other people. But there's no out planning or
out controlling the future because things are unknown.
I don't know exactly why I needed to go on that rant, but
there we go. For the other cards I pulled, I
pulled from the Seasons of the Witch Saw and Oracle, and here
(20:16):
again I pulled cards that showeda silvery or a reflective
element in it. And I pulled Journey, which says
Daughters of our mother, Walkersof the Unknown take with you on
this journey, all that you hone. And it gives a very like
underworld journey vibe. Like it depicts a person.
We see them from the back and wesee this like winding Rd. in
(20:36):
front of them and kind of like dark trees on either side or
like we don't really see that. Like the winding Rd. doesn't
really, we can't see where it ends.
It kind of just goes on. And they're on this sort of path
like you, even it looks like youcould fall off the side sort of
thing. And right like a lot of the moon
is about again, our subconscious, our underworld are
(20:57):
right, We're in the winter time of year, like our we're going
into the the into our subconscious or into the
underworld for the winter time, right?
If you think of Persephone's journey and Demeter as the
mother who right, Persephone, a Demeter basically negotiated the
Persephone only has to spend half the year in the underworld.
(21:20):
So we are in that time now afterpassing the autumn equinox.
So that's sort of interesting. There.
We have protection, which I've pulled this card a lot so I'm
familiar with it. And it sort of depicts 3 women
it looks like that are basicallylike covered in kind of a veil.
But also it looks like if you were to put a sheet over
(21:43):
yourself, like you can see them fully underneath.
But it's like it doesn't just cover their face.
It covers like their whole body. And it says, this is my house
stained by the very blood flowing through its walls,
covered in a veil of delicious prayers, yet deadly to those who
dare lift. It's hidden and this is all
(22:03):
about kind of like your ancestors and guides protecting
you, which again, at this time of year as we've passed Sao in
right, like it is a harder time of year.
A lot of time again, if you livein a place where it goes into
the darker, colder months of theyear, like people are more
depressed, there's more like stress.
(22:23):
A lot of the time there's like holiday stress, there's weather
stress, things are just can feela bit harder.
And so with Salwin again, where we kind of connect with the
ancestors and think about grief for those that have gone on,
right Protections, kind of like about that too, right?
We get to honor our ancestors and also like they in my mind
(22:48):
are there as guides, right alongwith other beings, perhaps to
protect us when we are in the mortal realm, when we are in the
the material world right now. And then finally I pulled wolf,
which here right, we have the moon in the background.
So again, we have the moon element.
We have two folks like sitting. They look like they're kneeling
(23:11):
on the ground. We have a wolf that's like
howling to the moon. And then we're sort of like we
look like we're indoors with like a, a fireplace behind
because it has all these like kettles, like sitting on
different parts of it. So perhaps like a cook stove, a
fire burned or a wood burning cook stove.
And then we see like a like a butterfly or a moth that looks
(23:34):
like art at the top of like the house.
Like we're inside the house. The wolf's howling to the moon
and it says devour the ferociouscalling within the howling of
your spirit, run wildly into thefreedom of your knowing.
I just saw today that so this year is like the year of the
snake in 2025, A lot of shedding, a lot of
(23:57):
transformation, right? If you think how snakes shed
their skin and a lot of kind of like hard lessons or things to
learn. Again, shedding is not an easy
process. I don't think it's super
comfortable. I'm sure it's like itchy and
like they have to, you know, again, think about rubbing up
against things to like get your dead skin off.
If you were a snake and you didn't have hands, why was I
(24:19):
talking about that? Oh, but that next year is the
year of the horse. And then it's all about like
running wild and kind of like freedom or finding your calling
or kind of like a bit of like running wild.
And I feel like that's sort of run wildly into the freedom of
your knowing, right? That's a bit about what this
(24:39):
card is saying. Like like, OK, this year, right?
And maybe taught us some things and now, right, that we have
kind of learned maybe new boundaries or new ways of living
or being. Oh, I didn't realize this is the
last card in this deck. So we are at like, right?
This would be kind of like the world equivalent if this were a
Major Arcana deck, right where we're at.
This is the we've come full circle kind of card and it says
(25:03):
the keywords are instinct and freedom.
Our instincts are a road map to surviving the human experience.
Instincts give us the urge to eat when hungry, to cover up
when cold, to seek sex when aroused, and to see it sense
danger even when we cannot see it with our eyes.
Instinct and intuition are giftsfrom the powers that be to help
us discover happiness, support, and well-being.
(25:25):
Intuition is our inner knowing that connects us to the
intelligence of the spirit realmand to the intelligence of the
earth. Sadly, many of us have muted our
animal natures. We've become too reliant on what
we can see and have forgotten totap into the intelligence that
is already available to us. Wolf is calling to remind you
that that you know your way home.
(25:46):
You may feel lost or confused about something in your life.
You may not know which directionto travel or what is safe to
pick up along the way. Wolf allows your instinct to
take over. You receive this guidance
through the urges you feel. It's like a push and pull right
in the center of your being. Take a few moments to feel these
(26:06):
urges. When faced with a decision, you
can start with something small like which toothpaste to buy or
which blog to read. This will help you to build
trust in your instincts. Eventually you will be able to
tap into this energy at will anduse it for every decision you
make in life. Well, that's lovely.
So here, right, Silver teaches us that that we can run wild,
(26:33):
right, that we can be in touch with our intuition, right?
The other aspect of like the moon card and tarot, right,
which again silver, white associated with the moon as like
a correspondence, right, it's all about intuition and like our
own knowing, our inner knowing again, if gold or yellow or the
sun card and terror or the summer and spring are about like
(26:57):
our external world, right, Like winter, fall, shedding of
leaves, sort of hibernating, getting cozy winter time.
That's all about our inner worldsometimes, right?
It's like about our inner home because we spend maybe less time
outside, although it can really be good to continue to go
(27:18):
outside even when the weather isnot quite as nice or as warm, at
least to get that, to get the little daylight that there is,
at least where I live. But that right, with actually we
have this internal world and winter allows us to kind of get
more in touch with our internal selves, right?
To know what is working for me, what isn't like, what do I want
(27:40):
to do? Perhaps as I think about going
into 2026, what do I, what worksagain, what doesn't?
What did I try this year? What did I shed this year,
right? Thinking of the snake shedding
the skin and what do I want to maybe welcome in?
Where do I want to run wild for 2026?
All right, And then finally we will pull a card about how we
(28:04):
can work with silver today. And I'm going to pull from the
Anima Mundi Tarot by Megan Weirwenden because it's a very
blue moon, white silver type deck.
It does have gold gilded edges or sort of gold reflective at
least, but it's a much cooler toned deck.
(28:25):
So that feels right for right now.
And it doesn't have a lot of bright colors, so I haven't used
it a lot this season because it is a lot of Blues and Grays and
blacks and white on every card, sort of.
OK, so how can we work with the color silver today?
And I pulled the lovers. Let's see here.
(28:49):
So the lovers right sometimes gets talked about as literal
lovers or romance, which is an aspect of this.
So it depicts Red crowned Crane 2 Red crowned cranes in a mating
dance. This is a species, like many
other bird species, that mates monogamously for life.
The card signifies A harmonious relationship, a solid
foundation, and a deep bond. Outside of relationships, The
(29:11):
lovers indicates an important decision may have to be made.
Be clear of your values and value.
Be clear of your values and belief systems and stay true to
yourself. So upright.
It's about love, harmony, passion, choices, relationships,
communication and establishing values.
So I would say, right, how can we work with silver today?
(29:33):
Think about our communication, think about what kind of choices
or relationships you want to be having, right?
Use your values or establish what values are important to you
in your in that relationship or in your own life.
And perhaps there's some decisions to be made, right?
That's what this is saying. And again, a lot of times when
we're making decisions, right, Iwould say the best way to go
(29:55):
about that is to use our inner knowing, right?
Use our intuition to check in with yourself to see, OK, yeah,
everyone else is going to that party or everyone else is going
to travel for this thing. Or, OK, people want me to do
this, but like, what do I actually want?
What's going to work for me? Again, as we, as we embrace the
sort of winter season of the year of living in our more
(30:17):
internal world and thinking about, right, reflecting on
things, which again, silver, right, all about the reflection
aspect, the shiny reflection. And sometimes it can be about
the shiny aspect, but also it can be about the thing that the
shine reflects, right? We can think about, again,
literally reflecting on something, right?
(30:39):
Thinking about the year of 2025 as we have, you know, about a
month left of that. Think about again, what worked,
what didn't, just as I was talking about with the Wolf
card, but also just about, yeah, like what is our inner knowing?
What decisions do we have to make?
And what are my current beliefs and value systems?
(30:59):
And how do I want to stay true to those as perhaps, you know,
other people have different ideas or there's a lot of
expectations. I'll just say this time of year.
So I don't blame you if, right, there's a lot of internal
turmoil going on. As a therapist, that's
definitely a lot of what I talk about with clients this time of
year. It's like, what are your
(31:20):
boundaries? What do you want to do?
How can you protect yourself when there's a lot of
expectations or situations wheremaybe things might feel harmful
or feel overwhelming? And then what is it that you
want to get out of this time of year, right?
What is important to you about it?
What how do you want to spend the holiday?
(31:40):
How do you want to do gift giving?
How do you want to celebrate fuel or Solstice or winter or
hibernating or your loved ones this time of year?
All right, well, I will end there for today and this season.
