NO. 23 -- KEVIN + DAVID SUTHERLAND | Sacramento Golfers

Golf has been their life. Kevin and David Sutherland of Sacramento spent a combined 33 years on the PGA Tour. Older brother Kevin has continued his career on the Champions Tour (Golf Tour for those age 50 and older) where he is the top money earner this season at age 56. After leaving the PGA Tour, David has found his second life in golf as a successful coach for the Sacramento State Women's team. He has been there since 2007 and was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

In today's episode of Experience the Buzz, Host Steve Buzzard spends time with the Sutherland Brothers discussing the unique game of golf. "The word that kept coming into my mind was UNORTHODOX. When you hear about what players have to do to get on the Tour, it's overwhelming. For Kevin and David, they had  the right mindset because of the way they approached the game. It was and has always been meant to be FUN!" Our conversation hits THREE areas: 

• Segment ONE 💥  opens with Kevin discussing his life on the Champions Tour. The question was brought up, "Who is the better golfer" which triggered a great discussion amongst the brothers. We finish the segment with growing up around the game of golf.
• Segment TWO 💥 begins with PGA TOUR aspirations. So unorthodox, but refreshing to hear. Both brothers talk about their time on the PGA TOUR and share some great stories. Kevin discusses his first PGA TOUR win in 2002 in which he beat another local golfer Scott McCarron in the WGC Accenture. David gives us a detailed look at playing at the British Open while Kevin describes his three trips to Augusta, Georgia to play in the Masters.
• Segment THREE 💥 starts with the next generation of golfers that include both of the Sutherland Brother's boys, Keaton (Kevin) and Matthew (David + Andrew). David preaches in this segment. It's great stuff. The brothers talk about the mental game of golf and offer some sound advice. We get details on Kevin's 59 that he shot in 2014 (only golfer on the Champions Tour to do it and ONE of 12 to do it professionally). David reflects on his time at Sac State as the Golf Coach and we finish out with the longest round of Rapid Fire (which included some more great golf stories).

▪️1. "I did not go to Fresno State thinking I was going to play on the PGA Tour," - Kevin Sutherland when asked about aspirations to play professionally.
▪️2. It was a brief mention, but between the two brothers, the duo has 11 Hole-In-One's.
▪️3. David's description of the unique quality GOLF has over any other sport.
