Patricia Regier (00:00):
I've been thinking a lot about since our

(00:02):
meeting yesterday, and I thoughtI should record something for
you, and let you know what I'mthinking about. And, and just
like experiencing this is goingto be different than if I just
emailed if you just readsomething I want, it's important
that we bring that also intoyour course, I thought I would

(00:22):
hop on and explain something. Soyou can come back to this video.
But part of what's reallyimportant is each module has an
introductory video. So somethinglike this, where it's it's a
talking head, whatever you wantin your background, whether it's
a plain wall, good lighting, good mic, good camera. This

(00:46):
one's not the quality thatprofessional photographer or
videographer would have. Butthis could work where it's also
added desk because yourlearner's your participants are
going to be at a desk topotentially watching your videos
and going through your course. So the first video introducing

(01:09):
your course, that definitelyshould be with a professional
videographer. But introducingeach module, it's really
important, in addition to whatyou've already recorded with the
demonstrations, that you havesome of these talking videos,
where you're introducing themodule, you know, your audience,
you know why you're you've puttogether this course. So there's

(01:33):
a couple of things that I wantyou to think about when you're
creating these little videosnippets is, first of all, who
are they? Why did you createthis course? Like get right back
to it? You're you care aboutthis content, you care about the
people that are going to betaking your course? Because and
what was the motivation? Why youcreated your course and put

(01:56):
together all this content andputting you spent all this time
on this? Because you told me youfelt that those are some of the
other courses were missing someof this information when you
were hiring people and startingto work with them. So how does
your your course set? Or how isit set apart from other courses?

(02:18):
Are you filling in the blanks? Are you replacing that other
course? Those other courses aswell? Think about that as to how
you're sharing the informationabout your course at the VA, the
beginning intro? Why should yourparticipants care about the
entire course? And in eachmodule? Why do they care about

(02:39):
this information? How are theygoing to use this information
and apply it? And why does itmatter? That they learn all of
these different things? And whydoes it matter that the people
taking this course, you know, offering these services? Why
does it matter that they knowthis, how they approach their
clients that they're workingwith that how you know all of

(03:02):
those pieces, and when you'retalking into the camera
definitely look definitely youknow, directly at the camera,
like you feel like I'm lookingat you I'm not looking at myself
that would be looking down andfeel like someone's behind the
camera. And you might want tolean in sometimes to you might
want to say okay, I know you'reyou're watching this from your

(03:25):
computer, or it might be ontheir phone. Part of a section
that we're going to get into toois what to expect how to
navigate this. So put in youryour earbuds, you know, that
kind of thing. Imagine theexperience and walking people
through it. So when you lean inyou say, I know that was a lot

(03:46):
of texts that you just read. This is why that was really
important. This is why it's notjust borings information, why
this matters, why you need toknow this and bring that
passion, bring your humor bringyour personality, that is also
what's going to make adifference and set your course
apart the energy and excitementthat you're bringing, because

(04:09):
I'm really excited for yourcourse I know we've got some
more work to do on it. But thesevideos introducing every module
so what you would say, yourbeginning intro for the course
and each section, each module. It may even be some sub modules
or segments, but the moduleitself needs an introduction

(04:33):
video. You can record it if youhave the setup, or you can
connect with the videographereach module letting people know
Hey, this is what you're goingto learn during this this
module. This is what what adifference it's going to make to
you why you're excited and youcan have some mini talking I
call these talking head videosabout some of the content too.

(04:55):
So people can read it but theycan also I know it's not a
demonstrate but you can talk, itmight be a mini lecture, what
you've done with presenting andspeaking in other context, bring
the the context into it. And youmight want to and you know, mine
is getting blurry as I'm movingtoo much. So that's something to

(05:17):
keep in mind, you might go backagain. But you know, adjusting
this if you move in letting thethe camera adjust and then talk
are some of the tips, but alsohow they're going to use this
encouraging people. Oh, right. Now, you might have little mini

(05:38):
segments where you think wecould put this towards the end
before the quiz. All right, Iwant you to take one thing that
you learned in the segment todayand talk about it to somebody
else. So we're bringing thatsocial learning piece into it,
it's also encouraging people toto talk about your course. You

(05:59):
may even do we want to throw ina segment, you know what's next
towards the end of the course asto, okay, I want you to talk on
social media, hashtag whatever, you know, and tag you and
they'll go in a draw, what didthey love about this course. So
that might be something that iseven a follow up video that you

(06:20):
send to people after they'vesigned up at the end, and
they've graduated. Before thequizzes, you might, we might
want to have a little. Alright,I'm so excited about what you've
learned. Now we're going to havea little quiz. So these video
snippets that go throughout thecourse, that's what also makes
it super engaging. Because wehave people reading, we have

(06:41):
people clicking thingsinteractive, doing the quiz, but
you, you being part of all ofthe different, you know, parts
of this journey of the learningexperience is what's going to
make an impact as well. We canhave the visuals, but you being
on camera, bringing yourpersonality and energy, you
know, a starter script, make ityour own, getting comfortable on

(07:06):
the camera, you're on socialmedia already. You're you're
comfortable in that way. Havefun with this. But those video
snippets are going to be areally important part of your
course as well. And for us toget it ready for people starting
to experience and walk throughthe course, that it's not just,
you know, as much as we'remaking engaging and adding

(07:28):
layers, what really makes italive and jumps off that
computer or phone and drawspeople in is you and telling
them why they should care what'sin it for them for taking this
or learning this stuff in aparticular module. Why is it
exciting? Or if it's notexciting? Why does it matter? So

(07:51):
I just thought I'll record thisand, and give you something to
think about. And come back tohow I'm doing it if it helps the
segments. So I'm super excitedabout your course. And what's
happening with it and and withthe closed captioning with the
video clips and introducingevery module and other things

(08:16):
that we sprinkle throughout, isgoing to make a big impact and
really bring alive what peopleare learning and reading and and
experiencing in your course. Sothanks for spending the time
listening to this as well.
