As you all know, I love talking about nuances rather than just the cliches. The cliche here is that social media is toxic and the information here is almost useless and repetitive, that it can harm people's self esteem and isolate them. Although there is truth to that for most people, the reality is that there are people in this world who have utilized their social media to earn 6 figure income, travel the world, gain financial freedom, meet new interesting people and be happier and more content with their lives! The key here in my view is about how we use it. Is it mindless scrolling or mindful media consumption? What kind of content do I see regularly? Do I still have the ability to argue against what I've been fed? Do I still have an idea of my own? Do I still spend time with people who are close to me in real life? Do I stay up watching reels on instagram or am I committed to my health and only use social media to stay connected with some long distance friends, to feel inspired, to learn new skills, to build a network and build wealth or am I just a mere consumer of whatever the algorithm wants me to see and believe and I am constantly comparing myself to life of others while I put no effort in improving the one of my own?
Toxic side of social media will target people with low self esteem, people with no discipline, people who are naive and have no creative thoughts of their own. Choose wisely!
