What makes someone build resilience through the hardships of life instead of toxic coping mechanisms to survive?
I have asked this question from myself several times as I have seen examples of both in my life. In this episode I want to answer this question to the best of my knowledge. In my view there are two main reasons for this. First reason could be the dosage of trauma we get in a period of time. If the dosage is too much (just like a deadly disease), we are most likely going to latch onto negative coping mechanism instead of getting stronger through the trauma. Second reason is our mindset, people with higher self esteem who are more confident about themselves are more likely to get stronger through their trauma as they view this big traumatic event of their life as a challenge that can build character!
SO what can we do?
My suggestion to build that resilience to protect ourselves from traumas in life is to get ourselves into an endurance challenge. endurance challenge could be running a marathon, cold shower every morning, working out everyday, etc. You can choose based on your current situation!
Why do I suggest that?
In my opinion, endurance challenges will help us a lot with confidence, resilience and discipline, all of which are necessary for living through life and its traumatic events because we might not be in control of what happens to us but we are definitely in control of how we react towards it. If you build that strong, healthy mindset, you will think you can get to anything in life. Whenever you look at a difficult situation in life, you would be like, if I went through that previous challenge and didn't die, I will definitely go through this and survive and evolve to a better version of me!
