Speaker 1 (00:13):
Music.
Welcome to another episode ofFaithWalk.
My name is Don Carpenter andtoday I want to build your faith
.
What I want to talk about todayis faith master class, and the

(00:38):
master class was given by Jesusto his disciples.
It happened what seemingly wasgoing to be an uneventful day.
It looked like it was justgoing to be like it always was
nice and smooth and Jesus wouldbe looking after everything for
them.
But in reality, this was aclass set up for them to

(01:02):
exercise their faith and in life.
Many times we think that it'sjust going to be an uneventful
day or everything is just goingto be the way it always is.
But we know that, as believersin Christ and as we walk forth
and carry out the Father'sbusiness, that things can go

(01:24):
wrong at a moment's noticeBecause we're in warfare, we're
in conflict.
We're fighting the good fightof faith and we must always be
on guard.
And God has equipped us becausewe are people who listen by
faith, we talk by faith and wewalk by faith.

(01:45):
Walking in faith occurs becausewe have seen what is beyond our
current challenge, and that'swhat the disciples failed to see
this day as the storm arose, asthey were crossing to the other

(02:06):
side.
Taking my text today out of Luke8, verses 22-25.
Verse 22, it just says that, let us.
Jesus spoke to them.
He said Let us go over to theother side.
And they launched forth.
Jesus said it, let's do it.
And they took no thought, thinking that not a whole lot

(02:32):
was going to be required of them.
But in verse 23 of Luke 8, wefind that as they sailed, the
Bible says that there was astorm of wind on the lake and

(02:52):
they were filled with water andwere in jeopardy.
The boat was filling with water, they were sinking and Jesus is
asleep.
And they're thinking what arewe going to do?
And somebody suggested well, let's wake up Jesus, he will fix
it for us.
Surely he knows that we can'tdo anything much about this.

(03:15):
That's what they thought.
But you know what?
Even though Jesus was there, heknew what was going on and this
storm.
I believe that Jesus knew thatthat storm was coming and if
you're finding yourself in astorm today, the Lord knows
about your storm.
It's not as if he's thinking Idon't care, he cares.

(03:41):
He cares so much that he wantsyou and I to be able to handle
our storms Now, walking in faith.
That occurs because we haveseen what is beyond the current
challenge.
In this case it was a storm, and how are we going to handle

(04:06):
things?
When we go into the realm offaith, our eyes, our spiritual
eyes, will open and we will seewhat God plans for us to handle
this situation.
Life is like this, but Jesus hasequipped us to handle storms,

(04:34):
and the greatest equippingweapon, the greatest equipping
tool that we have is faith.
Storms will hit fast.
They'll come hard.
I'm talking about spiritualstorms.
I'm talking about those kind ofstorms that are trying to take
you out.

(04:54):
The enemy tries to hit you withsomething and says maybe this
time I'll be able to take them.
But you know what, when we'reequipped by faith, we carry that
shield of faith and those dartsthat that devil throws at us.
We can handle the storms oflife and we handle them by faith
.
Storms always hit us where welive.

(05:16):
They always hit us where maybewe're vulnerable, maybe we're
tired and weary, and but whenthey come, do not be deceived
into thinking that I can't doanything about it.
Don't become confused, staycalm, stay cool.

(05:40):
How would God handle this?
How does the Lord want you tohandle this?
What is God's intention?
What is God's purpose?
What is God going to teach usin the midst of this storm?
And we will find that, eventhough the confusion is there,

(06:04):
we will find that, as our faithrises, we know that the least we
can do is stand, never retreat.
Don't go back to the old waysthat you were handling it.
Don't be dismayed, okay, bythat.
Don't become confused and gointo reverse from the ground

(06:26):
that you have gained.
You know when the storm is about.
If we look in the natural, it'sdarkness everywhere.
It seems to be that there areno exits available.
But you know we are required atthat moment.

(06:47):
We go into action because welive and we are handling it in
the faith mode.
And the Lord is wondering willmy disciples handle this by
faith?
That's what he's saying.
Will they handle this by faithor will they try to do it in

(07:09):
their own strength?
So they come to Jesus.
It says in verse 24,.
They come to Jesus and theywake him up and they said Master
, master, we're perishing Likewe're dying.
Have you ever said that?
Like I'm never going to survive, I can't get out of this.

(07:32):
So Jesus arose.
The Bible says he rebukes thewind and the raging water.
And they ceased and there was acalm.
We perish what kind of astatement is that for a faith
walker?
We perish.
I am sure that Jesus is sinking.

(07:53):
Why are they talking like this?
He taught them to know thatwith God, all things are
possible.
We have life.
We don't perish.
We're not those who draw back.
Perish means that the enemy iswinning.
The thing that's coming againstus is going to destroy us.

(08:16):
The Lord has equipped us and heallows no storm to come into
our lives that we cannot handle.
We all everybody is at adifferent faith level.
I'm sure, and I'm sure that youcan look back where you are now
and where you first started andyou can see that you're at a

(08:39):
much higher faith level rightnow.
But when people say we perish, that is faithless talk.
We need not fear the future.
We need not fear that we arehopeless.

(09:02):
We need not fear to think thatwe're going to fail.
You're not a failure.
Failure is not a person.
Failure is what the enemy triesto make you think and thinking
you're perishing.

(09:23):
You can't do this.
You know there are verses inthe Bible that encourage us.
Aren't there.
And when the night is dark andwhen, on every side, you cannot
see an opening or a way out.
Just remember God is well ableto deliver us.

(09:43):
I'm looking back now to thatstatement.
That was when Shadrach, meshachand the Bendigo were tossed
into the fiery furnace and theymade it very clear that God was
able to deliver them.
So when Jesus is in control andhe is and when you know that

(10:05):
Jesus is in control, there'scalmness.
You cannot handle calamity, youcannot handle chaos, if you
yourself are rattled, shaken upin your mind, confused.
You have to remain calm, andone can be calm in the midst of

(10:32):
any storm, because if confusionis permitted, chaos and
destruction will be the endresult.
So here they are.
They're in the boat.
Yes, in the natural there'smuch water in the boat.
The wind is blowing hard.

(10:54):
These are.
This is a situation where theyknow that they are sinking, but
what is amazing is they didn'tthink that they could do
anything about it.
There are going to be times inyour life when you're all alone.

(11:14):
You may not have access tohaving that one that you're used
to leaning on be with you atthat time.
There could be times wherethere doesn't seem to be a
believer around you in sight.
There may be people, butthere's no believers.
You may be feeling very alone.
Just remain calm and the Lord'sgoing to direct you and in that

(11:38):
testing you will find that youwill come through victoriously
and your ship is not going tosink.
See, needless fear living inone's fallen human nature.

(11:59):
It's always going to be thereand it's always going to try to
turn you back to death.
That's the purpose of fear.
But we have a differentdependence now.
We are not depending, we arenot victims.
We are not subject to ourcircumstance.

(12:23):
Faith takes us into a place ofcontrol of our circumstances.
We depend upon God, we dependupon His Word.
That's why we have the Word ofGod.
The Word of God is the power ofGod that's been given to

(12:46):
believers.
We speak that Word.
See, my faith stands in thepower of God, according to 1
Corinthians 2-5.
And when I go to Romans 10-8, Ifind out that that Word is near
me, it's even in my mouth.
Because it's in my heart, I'mgoing to speak it and it's going

(13:07):
to be very, very effective.
So Jesus asks an interestingquestion in verse 25.
When we go to Luke, chapter 8,verse 25, he says to them Now,
here's the situation the boat isfilled with water.

(13:29):
The storm is raging, the windis blowing just like it is, with
a life threatening, somethingyou feel as you cannot longer
handle, and it's overwhelming.
They wake Jesus up.
Jesus knows that they're filledwith fear.

(13:50):
That's why he never leaves usnor forsakes us.
Jesus calms the storm, he calmsthe waters, he calms the wind,
and when it's all settled, thenhe says to them when is your

(14:10):
faith?
What have you done with it?
Why didn't you exercise thatfaith?
And he says that to all who letfear take control.
He wants us to understand.
He's not trying to discourageus when he says that.

(14:36):
He's making that a point.
He's saying to us you know, youcould have used your faith, you
could have exercised your faithin this matter.
Sometimes people say, well, Idid nothing happened.
Something's happening, don'tyou worry about that.
And they you know what this isthey being afraid.

(15:03):
They're still in a state offear even after the wind has
calmed.
The waters are calm, jesus hasgot everything into control, but
fear has had such a grip onthem.
I can see it now working intheir minds, as Jesus is talking

(15:25):
about.
Does he expect me to use faith?
The answer is yes, he expectsus to use faith.
So they begin talking to oneanother.
I have no indication.
They probably didn't know whatto say.
I have no indication to readinto this statement anything
differently than that theycouldn't seem to grasp.

(15:49):
So they start talking to oneanother, and you know what
they're talking about.
They still don't get it.
They're still talking about thestorm.
They're still thinking aboutthe storm Because, in the state

(16:14):
of fear, they're not hearing theWord of God, they're not
grasping what Jesus is saying.
And Jesus just asked a simplequestion, four words where is
your faith?
But they can't hear it becausefaith is a fear blocks Fear.

(16:37):
When fear comes in, we can getconsumed.
We're just like that ship.
We begin to fill up and when wefill up with fear, we're
starting to sink and we thinkthere's no hope.
And Jesus, right away, when hecomes to the storm, he says to
them where is your faith?
Do they get it?
No, they start talking amongthemselves, and you know what

(16:59):
they're saying.
What manner of man is this For?
He commanded even the winds andthe water, and they obey Him.
They still it's still notsettling in there.
Where is your faith?
What we have to do when we feellike fear is starting to come.

(17:23):
Doubt is starting to settle in.
We need to rebuke that rightaway.
Jesus rebuked the wind, herebuked the waves, and when fear
starts to come, don't let therebe any doubt in your mind.
Fear is a big storm and whenfear comes, you must immediately

(17:43):
rebuke it.
Don't rebuke it because doubtis just like fear, just brings
in doubt, and they combine andthey try to attack your faith
and they try to destroy you.
Faith and doubt do not livetogether, cannot live together.

(18:09):
There is no advantage inallowing doubt to have a place
in our hearts.
Doubt is a product of thefallen nature of man.
Faith is the product of the newcreature, the new creature in

(18:32):
Christ.
Faith is what dwells withinthat born again, spirit filled
individual.
We have the unrealized power ofGod, faith and God's Word.
Combine those two and you canconquer all storms.
