Have you ever faced a moment so challenging that you felt entirely alone, wrestling with a decision that could change your entire life's direction? If you've ever encountered such a crossroads, tune in as I, Don Carpenter, guide you through the deeply spiritual journey that Jesus experienced in the Garden of Gethsemane. This episode of Faith Walk delves into the heart of what it means to confront the divine plan, even when it leads us to places of profound struggle. We explore the significance of Jesus' request for the cup to pass from him, decoding the layers of meaning within his plea and reflecting on the universal themes of loneliness, the anticipation of suffering, and the burden of humanity's sins.

Together, we'll connect the dots between the biblical accounts of Jacob, Saul of Tarsus, and Peter with our contemporary experiences that test our faith. Discover how the presence of spiritually strong companions can make all the difference when we are called to step into the unknown. This episode isn't just a retelling of a biblical narrative; it's an invitation to recognize the Gethsemane moments in our own lives and to find strength in solidarity and faith. Join us as we confront the fears that go hand-in-hand with true spiritual commitment, and learn how to emerge with a fortified faith, ready to embrace the path that God has laid before us.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
This is Faith Walk.
My name is Don Carpenter andI'm glad that you're with me
today.
I'm going to talk on.
It Is Enough.
There are many dangersencountered in our journey as we
press into the plan and thepurpose of God for our life and
our ministry, and I'm going togo there in just a moment.

(00:32):
First of all, I want to justset the scene here.
This particular teaching andlesson that I'm going to share
with you today is based out ofMark, chapter 14, verses 32
through 42.
Jesus is now in the Garden ofGethsemane.

(00:52):
In this scene, judas has goneto betray him for 30 pieces of
silver and Jesus is strugglingand he's asking Father, if it's
possible, is there another way?
You know, eventually we allcome to a place where we wrestle

(01:15):
long and hard with things, whenwe know that we have to make
some choices and changes.
But we have to make somechoices and changes and we have
to lay down our lives, spirituallives, to walk out what God
would have us to walk out.
Jacob, the Old Testamentpatriarch.

(01:37):
He came to that place.
He was in the field ofwrestling, if you'll remember.
He was sleeping with his headon a stone.
Heaven was opened and my oh my,the angel come down, and I
believe it was the Lord.
And they wrestled Saul ofTarsus.
He came to that place on theDamascus Road.

(01:58):
Jesus, what will you have me todo?
Peter came to that place whenhe stood around the fire with a
group of strangers and herealized that things were going
to change dramatically from thenon.

(02:18):
In this place, jesus took 11 ofhis disciples with him.
They probably went there quiteoften.
Judas was not with them.
He had gone to the temple tosell Jesus, to betray him into
their hands.
And while they're in the garden, jesus, in verse 33 of Mark,

(02:52):
chapter 14, he says this hetaketh with him Peter and James
and John and began to be sore, amazed and to be very heavy.
He had eight of them to stay bythemselves and he told them to
sit.
He takes Peter, james and Johnwith him when they are with him
deeper in.
I don't know what it was thatthey've seen.

(03:13):
I don't know what it was thatthey experienced, but I'm sure
that it was terrifying to them.
Probably they were thinking wedidn't know.
It was like this.
You know, sometimes when we godeeper in the Lord and the
things of God, we see things andmaybe we're challenged, maybe

(03:37):
the enemy may say you keep goingthis way and this is what's
going to happen to you.
You know all kinds of thingswill come our way, but one thing
I know I know what can handleterror and I know what handles
fear in its faith.
Whenever we prepare to godeeper or God is leading us to

(04:01):
go into areas where we're notcomfortable with or we're not
too familiar with, it's nice tohave somebody with us.
I think that when Jesus talkedabout the power of agreement and

(04:26):
he said if two agree not anytwo that's often misquoted.
The Bible doesn't say any two,not in the King James, if two
agree.
And I believe that those peoplethat you have in agreement are
those that you know arespiritually strong.
And there are some people thatthey are people who will move by
faith and you know they'llstand with you and you know
they're going to encourage you.
And you know they'll stand withyou and you know they're going

(04:46):
to encourage you.
And his prayer Jesus prayed thisso many times.
He said Lord, let this passfrom me.
Father, is it possible thatthis will pass from me?
In verse 36, take away this cupfrom me.

(05:07):
And you hear many sermons andtalks on this.
What was the cup?
It could have been theloneliness.
It could have been the factthat Father was going to turn
his back on him.
There would have been, ofcourse, the tremendous pain of
the cross.
There were so many things inthat cup, taking on the sins of

(05:31):
mankind, and yet he was willingto do it and he did do it.
Jesus did that for us and hesaid to them couldn't you watch
with me one hour, guys, like Ineeded you to stand with me.

(05:52):
It is something which Jesus hadwanted them to do and you know,
as Jesus was praying, there'sall kinds of prayers.
You know.
People say simple prayers, that's over in a few seconds.
There are people who, when theypray, it's very intense, with

(06:18):
fasting, and there's variouslevels.
From what I can see, I justwanted to talk about this.
I see four levels of prayer.
There is a level ofintercession, number one where
you're just so burdened you'repressing in.

(06:39):
Then it goes to groaningsG-R-O-A-N-I-N-G-S groanings.
That's where you're in thespirit, to such a depth that
it's not something that's comingout of your mouth in your
native language, but your spiritis praying and making

(07:03):
intercession in makingintercession.
The third level I see here isunable to ascertain whether
you're in the body or out of thebody.
You're pressing in so close.
I believe that that's whenyou're pressing in close in the
realm of the Spirit and thepower of God.
It's hard to distinguishwhether you're in the spirit or

(07:25):
if it's in flesh.
And then the fourth level isthat you're caught up under the
throne room of God, Like thereare just so many levels and
depths that people go to.
And Jesus, he, understands thatthere's many dangers here in

(07:47):
this journey encounters.
And it's the same for us as wepress in for the plan and the
purpose of God to be fulfilledin our lives.
The Bible says that the eyes ofPeter, james and John became

(08:10):
heavy.
They were so sleepy.
Weariness came upon them.
They knew that in theirweakness they felt bad.
Lord, we really want to stayawake, but they were struggling

(08:31):
and I believe that Jesus wasjust trying to say fellows, come
on, we can do this.
He came to them over and overat least three times the Bible
records and he's thinking I needyou to stand with me and agree

(08:52):
with me and, like I said, if twowill agree, it's amazing what
can be accomplished, becausewhen you think about it, and I
was just talking to you just amoment ago and I was talking to
you about various prayer levels.
You can imagine.
Well, I'm hoping you can, I'mhoping you can, I'm hoping you

(09:16):
can see that, as you draw closerto the Lord and as he draws
closer to you, the pull of earth, the carnal, the fleshly things
that come to us so strong theybecome less and less and our

(09:37):
desire to be with the Fatherbecomes more and more.
And and agreement, the power ofagreement, can take you through

(10:04):
so many cares of life, so manytroubles, so many things,
temptations, things that comeour way and try to make us turn
around or try to make us quit, try to make us go back.
Jesus said it's enough and whatI'm going to offer you and what
God does when we press in,never think for one moment that

(10:25):
God is going to leave you emptyor powerless, that he cannot
make the way for you.
I look at faith as the same way.
Some people say, well, butAdonai, I need more than faith.
It's enough.
Faith will produce, it's enough.
You're going to come through it, you're going to make it.
You're not going to be heldback.
And as we cross over into ourfaith realm and where we're

(10:54):
living.
There it's challenging.
Spiritual breakouts occurbecause we've crossed unknown
borders, we've passed from deathunto life, we have gone from
have not to have.
Faith takes us from fear andbrings us into a confidence that
well, of course, it's going towork.

(11:16):
This is God's will.
No one who is traveling on anuntried path will find it
comforting.
The flesh does not find thatcomforting.
As a matter of fact, maybesometimes, the more you go, the
more uncertain it becomes.

(11:36):
I have found quite often, justbefore a breakthrough, the enemy
will make a real play and saythis isn't going to work, why
don't you try something else?
But you don't do that.
You hang in there because faithis a tried path and faith makes
a way.
Faith is how we please God.
Can't please God any other way.

(12:00):
So Jesus comes back to thesedisciples the third time Peter,
james and John.
He finds them asleep again.
He just says you know, it'senough, you can keep sleeping.
I have pressed in and I havethe strength and I'm going to do

(12:25):
it.
I can just hear him saying thisto them.
So there comes a time in ourfaith walk when events are set
into motion.
Faith now is engaged, engagedand things are going to be

(12:45):
happening.
Hopefully you have made theright step by preparing yourself
and walking the way God wouldhave you walk.
Because if something happensand you haven't prepared, you
know, bear in mind that God hasyou on a journey where nothing

(13:08):
is in vain, nothing is toosimple.
You might think well, I don'thave to do that.
You have to do everything thatGod tells you to, everything you
feel in your spirit that Godwould have you do, tells you to
Everything you feel in yourspirit that God would have you
do.
You must make yourselfavailable and walk in that, and

(13:30):
failure can only come if youfail to prepare.
So the time comes when Jesusinforms these sleepy disciples
and he wants them to know hemade it, he crossed over and the

(13:51):
victory is settled.
We have to find our pathway offaith.
We have to know what God wantsus to do.
And maybe sometimes you don'tfeel so holy, you don't feel so

(14:11):
righteous, or you might feellike you're not equipped, you
might feel like you can't do it,but when you pray and leave it
in the hands of the Lord and youstand up and you begin to move
forward, just like Jesus, youknow when the enemy comes or
when you look around at thesituation.
Don't let it trouble you.

(14:31):
It's enough, you haveconfidence in God and it's
enough You're going to gothrough and you're well able to
cross over and you're going topossess.
Remember, jesus is dealing notonly just with that, but also
with the betrayal Somebody thathe had poured his heart into.

(14:53):
He had did everything to makeJudas a strong follower, but
betrayal tears away at one'sheart.
It'll bring you into despairand anxiety, and it's a terrible
thing to have somebody fail youor somebody betray you.

(15:22):
Persecution, when it comes,it'll always expose your nature
anyhow, and you know people aretrying to.
If it's not working fast enough, if it's not how it should be
happening right now, they'll tryto do it and they'll try to get
themselves involved.
But you know what happened whenthe disciples tried to get

(15:45):
involved.
When Judas showed up, peterdraws his sword, slices off a
slave's ear and Jesus says hey, hey, hey, hey, stop, he has to.
Heal, puts the ear on and hesays we don't come with them, we
don't do battle this way.
And so it takes trust andconfidence, doesn't it?

(16:07):
I trust God when God says to meDon, I want you to walk by
faith.
I'm going to trust God.
I'm going to believe what Godsays.
The Bible says in Psalm 511, letall who put their trust in the
Lord let them rejoice, and I'mgoing to rejoice.
Faith is trust.

(16:30):
When you release your faith, this is what you're doing.
You're walking in trust.
And Isaiah 12, 2 says God's mysalvation.
I will trust and not be afraid.
When we move by faith, we haveright now tremendous ability to
overcome and no matter whatyou're facing, when you move by
faith, you can rest.

(16:52):
I mean, you're saved, you'reborn again.
You're serving God.
You're walking with the Lord.
You're releasing your faith.
The enemy is defeated.
You're releasing your faith.
The enemy is defeated.
Amen, just come to rest.
And when we come to rest, we'rereally saying it is enough.
I've done all that I can do.
It is enough.

(17:15):
I trust that this word hashelped you and encouraged you.
And if you'd like to have moreministry, why don't you travel
on over to my website,doncarpenterca?
I think you'll find some thingsthere that'll encourage you.
God bless you Until the nexttime.
