SPEAKER_00 (00:08):
God says to be
thankful all the time.
Every day is a day ofthanksgiving.
Luke 17, verse 11.
While he was on the way toJerusalem, he was passing
between Samaria and Galilee.
And as he entered a village, tenlepers men who stood at a
(00:29):
distance met him.
They raised their voice, saying,Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
And when he saw them, he said tothem, Go, show yourself to the
priest.
And as they were going they werecleansed.
Now one of them, when he sawthat he had been healed, turned
back, glorifying God with a loudvoice, and he fell on his face
(00:53):
at his feet, giving thanks tohim, and he was a Samaritan.
Then Jesus answered and said,Were there not ten cleansed?
But the nine, were they?
Was no one found who returned togive glory to God except this
foreigner?
(01:14):
And he said to him, Stand up andgo.
Your faith has made you well.
Jesus had been on a ministrytrip, declaring the word of God,
going from village to village, town to town.
And when you go out into theworld and you go to do the work
(01:35):
of the Lord, you never knowwhat's going to come across your
path.
And I'm thinking of a group oflepers that I came across in
Bangladesh, begging and sittingon the roadside, and they would
gather every day, all together, and they would seek for
finances.
(01:56):
And when Jesus was passingthrough this town, he came
across a group of ten.
And it says they lifted up theirvoices.
This was in Luke 17, 13.
They're in a state of no hopewhatsoever.
(02:19):
Have you ever helped somebodyout financially or helped them
out physically, did somethingfor them?
Or just gave them a word, andthey said, You are the only one
that helped me.
I was in such need, and you werethe only one who helped me.
(02:41):
Isn't that a wonderful sense anda feeling that you have, knowing
that you felt like doing it andthat these people took the time
to thank you for helping them.
We sometimes think, I wanted it,I have it now.
Somebody had to provide thatanswer for you.
(03:04):
Somebody.
And it's the least that we canever do is to say thank you and
to show gratitude.
But when it comes to God, thethought doesn't hardly ever
enter our minds to say thankyou, Lord.
Whatever it is.
(03:25):
Just to be grateful for thecoming through the night and to
be grateful for the new day.
Thankfulness is not somethingthat we can force it at
somebody.
And sometimes we will do that toour children.
What do you say after we givethem something?
And they know what they've gotto say, and what they have to
say is thank you.
(03:46):
That's a good boy, that's a goodgirl, and we're thinking about
an older adult.
If we had to force them to saythank you, I think that what
would go through my mind wouldbe that they don't really
appreciate it.
They do that because I expectedthem to say that.
(04:06):
But when we look at a passage inLeviticus in 22-29, if we're
going to thank God and to tellthe Lord that we're thankful,
it's wonderful when we do it inour own will, our own free will.
It's what we want to do.
(04:28):
How many times have we helpedsomeone?
And there's no way that they'llever be able to repay us.
Something that we did, and theyfeel so obligated, and whatever,
and we know that they aregrateful, and we knew that they
needed it, and we felt that weshould help them and that we
(04:51):
should do it.
And when they say thank you, that brings everything together.
That settles what I've just donefor them.
A simple thank for you when yougenuinely mean it.
That's everything.
That's all that I need.
Sometimes you'll help peoplemoney or whatever, and they'll
(05:12):
say, I'll pay you back becausethey don't know what else to
say.
And full will they can't.
You're gonna say, No, this is agift, this is something which I
feel I wanted to do.
And they'll say, Thank you.
And to know that peopleappreciate what you do for them,
that is worth a lot.
(05:33):
But when we think about God andwhat he does for us, and we're
gonna say, He's God, he knows,he knows that I'm grateful.
Have you noticed how many timesin the Bible that it talks about
us speaking?
When we speak, it is an audiblesound.
(05:58):
And we say, Thank you.
The Lord loves it when we saythank you.
Thanksgiving always begins withprayer.
And we're gonna say, Lord, whatwould you have me do?
Or the Lord will speak to uswhen God says, This is what I
want you to do.
(06:18):
We do it, and we get blessedbecause we do it.
And the individual that we giveto may have been praying to God
and wondering how the solutionand the answer is going to be.
When they receive, they have aprayerful attitude and then
saying, Lord, by faith, you havemade the way for me.
(06:40):
Psalm 69, 30.
The Bible says that we canmagnify God with thanksgiving.
We don't just take it forgranted.
We don't just take it and say,oh, yeah, yeah, and just move
along.
We say, Father, I thank you forthat provision.
(07:00):
Thank you.
And right away you'reacknowledging that it was God
that made the way and gave theanswer.
You can grow so much in justbeing thankful.
You'd be amazed what will happento your spirit when you start
saying thank you.
(07:21):
It's amazing what happens toyou, it keeps you humble.
You're in a position whereyou're really saying is, I can't
do it all on my own.
I need you.
And I can't do it on my own as abeliever.
I need God, and I need you.
And there's something aboutbeing thankful that in the end,
(07:42):
you are the winner.
You grow and you mature and youare the winner.
Psalm 95, 2, always come intohis presence with thanksgiving.
If you were to have an audiencewith a leader of some nation, no
matter what nation on earth, ifyou were to be able to go to
(08:06):
their home and have breakfastwith them, or if they would
invite you to come and have achat with them and talk to them
about things spiritually, that'sa privileged opportunity.
That doesn't just happen toanybody.
I remember I was in a countrypreaching a number of years ago,
(08:29):
and I had received a note thenight before, and they said that
the local member of Parliament, and he was a cabinet secretary
in the national government,he'll be sending his car around
for you in the morning, and hewould like to have you join him
(08:51):
for breakfast.
And he wants to talk aboutsalvation.
He wants to talk to you aboutwhat it is his wife and son
have.
He wants me to explain it tohim.
And I'm thinking, thisopportunity doesn't just come
along any time.
(09:12):
So I went and had breakfast, andhe said, What is it?
And I said, Well, talk to him.
And I told him what it is (09:18):
Jesus
dying on the cross and
salvation, how we can come toknow the Lord and the difference
that it makes in our life.
And this is what has happened tohis wife and to his son, who
were in my meetings.
And so I was thankful for thatopportunity.
But to have an opportunity tocome into the presence of God
(09:43):
and he will listen to you.
He only listens, he only talkswith those who know him.
Outside of that, everyone elseis dead.
And to think that when you cometo know the Lord, you come to
know what it is to havespiritual life, and you come
(10:06):
into his presence, and you areso thankful that you know the
Lord, and what a privilege andwhat a wonderful time this is.
So it was quite a lot like thisfor these ten lepers.
Obviously, they knew aboutJesus.
(10:27):
They had heard about hismiracles because the Bible tells
us that.
He was doing many miracles, andthe crowds would come to him to
understand when the crowds wouldcome, the lepers would not be
allowed among them.
They would always be outcasts, they would always be on the
fringe.
Jesus is walking where he couldhear what they would have to
(10:51):
say.
And they cried unto him, itsays, verse 13, they lifted up
their voice.
They spoke louder than theywould normally talking to one
another.
They said, Jesus, you cannot crythat name and be cut off.
(11:15):
Anybody who cries the name ofJesus, whether it's coming to
him or whatever it is, whateverthey need, right away, the power
that is greater than any powerwe know is now listening to us.
Jesus.
(11:36):
And then they also look a littlebit further.
Master, have mercy on us.
Take away the leprosy, take awaythis disease that it will grow
no more.
We learn a lot here.
Jesus healed people differentways.
(11:59):
Sometimes it was with mud, sometimes it was with a word,
sometimes, yes, he laid hishands.
Here's what he says.
Go! Show yourself to thepriests.
They looked at one another.
The disease is still working inthem.
(12:22):
But what happens is, this isquite a miracle, and it came to
pass that as they went, theywere cleansed.
It did not happen until theytook that step and started
walking.
The mistake that many peoplemake, not all, but many people
(12:45):
make the mistake of not, oh I'mnot healed, nothing happening to
me.
Stand.
I don't feel any different.
I don't think I can stand.
Raise your arm.
I told you it was seized.
It's seized.
Raise it.
Numerous times in my years inministry, when I've ministered
(13:07):
to people, have come to me withseized arms, whatever it is,
shoulder.
And I would tell them to raiseit.
And I think one of the mostnotable was a senior.
Nothing happened that night, butthe next night he came and he
wanted to testify.
And he said I was showering.
And when they finished, he said,I grabbed the towel and I wasn't
(13:29):
even thinking.
And I grabbed the towel and Ihung it like this.
And when he did that, the placejust started to shout.
Oftentimes, when you startacting as if you're healed,
talking as if you're healed, moving as if you're healed, you
will leave that thing behind.
Faith works that way.
(13:50):
Faith requires action.
Many times I have done that.
And been in positions where wehave no provision and we have to
go anyway and do it.
Just go and do it and let's seewhat happens.
The Bible does say, as theywent, one of them, one of them.
(14:15):
Out of the ten, verse 15, one ofthem.
When he saw that he was healed, turned back and with a loud
voice glorified God.
As they went, they werecleansed.
John chapter four, verse fifty,Jesus said to him, Go thy way,
(14:42):
thy son liveth.
This was a nobleman whose sonwas sick.
And what does it say?
The man believed the word thatJesus had spoken unto him, and
he went his way, and as he wasnow going down, his servants met
(15:04):
him and told him, Your sonlives.
Your son liveth.
As he went, I am grateful thatGod has given us faith.
I give thanks for this.
And every time that I ministeror believe by faith, if I
(15:26):
believe that I've received it,then I have to live as if I have
it.
From now on, I now have it.
I believe every day.
You understand?
And as you go, you believe.
I am thankful that I've knownthe Lord.
(15:46):
And I'm thankful that I givethanks unto the Lord for what he
does.
I'm thankful for this.
And we see that as these peoplewent, they got their answer.
If they'd have sat still, they've remained in there.
(16:08):
And this man was a foreigner,Jesus points that out as well.
But this one leper came back tothank Jesus.
That demonstrated humility inthat man.
Do you know how hard that was?
The Jews always acted superiorover the Samaritans.
(16:30):
And this man was a Samaritan.
And to go back, he could havelistened to the thought, why
should I go back and be subjectto arrogance?
No.
He didn't entertain them.
He says, I cannot just walk withthe others.
(16:51):
I know that I'm healed.
I've got to go back and thankhim.
And he did.
Jesus says, Were there not tenof you?
And the man doesn't give theaccount here, but the man said,
Yes, sir, that would be correct.
He says, I only see one.
And it's a stranger.
(17:11):
This man is kneeling at the feetof Jesus.
He's humble.
He's so grateful.
He's so thankful.
And he gets now the secondblessing.
Of all the lepers, he was theonly one made whole.
Because leprosy can make allkinds of deformities.
(17:33):
And by the time that man lookedat his body, everything is
working perfectly.
That's a great lesson inThanksgiving.
In Thanksgiving, it takes usthat extra step.
It's not just your need beingmet, but in Thanksgiving there's
(17:56):
a wholeness coming forth in you.
It is a good thing to givethanks unto the Lord.
