Welcome back to FaithfullyInvested, where we're diving
into God's blueprint forleadership, marriage, and
mission, one principle at atime, and we are overjoyed that
(01:03):
you decided to join us today.
I'm Allen Thorne.
And I'm Stacy Jo Thorne.
And we are going to talk todayabout one of my absolute
favorite things.
Allen, can you guess what it is?
Um, why don't you just tellthem.
Worship.
And I don't just mean from aplatform or a stage, as some
(01:27):
people call it on a Sundaymorning.
That's right.
We're not talking about.
Just Sunday worship, we're,we're not just talking about the
song.
What we're talking about isliving the worship lifestyle.
Mm-hmm.
We believe that when you getdown to it, the core of
authentic worship is awe andgratitude Unhinged.
(01:49):
Gratitude isn't just about themusic.
It's not just about the songset.
It's a lifestyle about loving.
God in the middle of yourMonday.
Yeah.
What about loving God throughyour meetings and your other
meetings?
And then your meetings afterthose other meetings.
Right.
(02:09):
How about, how about even lovingGod when you're meal prepping
through just the, oh, just theuh mm-hmm.
What we would considered themost mundane tasks of the day.
Yeah.
What about loving God whenyou're stuck in traffic?
Hello.
95?
Uh, we could complain or wecould worship in the moment.
(02:32):
Have you ever considered that inhis all-encompassing sovereignty
that God might be keeping youfrom something detrimental
during those traffic delays?
Mm.
There's a perspective shiftthere that refuses to give the
(02:53):
enemy a foothold.
Something to consider.
Yeah.
I would definitely urge you toworship when you're stuck in
traffic.
I, that's.
One time I always worship himbecause there's no better way to
kill time, in my opinion.
And it's Sure.
Beats getting, you know, allbent up.
All wound up, yeah.
Yeah.
All bent up over something thatis totally outta my control.
(03:15):
Right.
So I, I.
It's something you said though.
I wanna back up to meal preppingfor a second because y'all, I
just have to tell you that thekitchen is totally Allen's jam.
It is not mine.
And I have seen him loving someworship music while he's doing
it.
And it's kind of like yoursanctuary.
I'm not sure I'd call it asanctuary, but I do enjoy
(03:38):
worshiping while working over aflaming grill.
Of course you do now.
And I'd say that worship looks,of course you don't do that in
the kitchen, but.
No, not, no.
From a safety perspective, we'recertainly not grilling in the
kitchen, but we are worshipingin the kitchen.
Yeah.
But, but worship, uh, looks andsounds differently mm-hmm.
(03:58):
To different people.
Yeah.
You know, as a, as a God fearingas a Christ following man.
I might put on some, some demonhunter or, or holy name or, or I
might go all the way old school, back to some striper.
Those guys are great striper.
Uh, those guys are greatmusicians and they honor the
Lord with their entire lives, and that's what worship's all
(04:21):
about.
I like it a little differentlythan Stacy, Jo, uh, than the
stuff that Stacy Jo listens toregularly.
Yeah.
But regardless of whose song itis, as long as that song
glorifies Yahweh Yeah.
Then all is well.
Yeah.
Right.
But back to the Grill.
Worship, the grill, the, theGrill.
(04:41):
You're not worshiping the grill,though.
We're certainly not worshipingthe grill, but worship over a
smoking hot grill.
Garners praise, honor andgratitude for the bountiful
blessing of charred animalflesh.
Oh my gosh, that's Hey, rule andrain, baby.
Let's, let's get some.
(05:02):
Oh my goodness.
How, how about you Honey Bunny?
Well, that was a little bitgraphic, but.
You know, I may not lovecooking, but I will absolutely
turn up the worship music andsing my heart out anytime,
anywhere.
I don't care.
Kitchen traffic.
I even found myself whistling,uh, a worship song the other day
in Aldi and no joke, and as Iwas in one of the aisles.
(05:24):
I don't know.
But, but that's the beauty ofworship.
It's not about the setting.
It's not, it's about the postureof our hearts.
Yeah.
And so let's get into what itreally means to live a life that
is worshiping the Lord.
Yeah.
And what, when most people hearthe word worship, they, they
(05:48):
think of music.
They think music.
Yeah.
It's, it's an automatic reply,right?
It's like they, they picturehands raised up, you know,
worship band, maybe even a fogmachine, depending, depending on
the setting, you know?
But they think.
Like we already said, Sundaymorning church in most cases.
Right.
But that's just not the case.
That's just not the case.
(06:09):
Uh, real worship.
Mm-hmm.
It's about so much more than, than a song.
Yeah.
It's, it's what happens whenevery part of our life points to
God, points to Jesus, points tothe Holy Spirit.
Mm-hmm.
It's when it's when our work,it's when your, your rest.
When, when your decision makingand your relationships all say,
(06:33):
God, you are worthy of praise.
And honor.
That's so good, babe.
You know, I love Romans 12 one, where it says, present your body
as living sacrifices, holy andacceptable to God, which is your
spiritual act of worship.
Yeah.
So that tells us right there, that worship in of itself is a
(06:55):
lifestyle.
It's not a set list.
It's not a song.
It means surrendering your dailylife, your actions, your
choices, your, your time, yourenergy, your gifts.
Absolutely all of it.
All to God's purposes of above.
Above, yeah, all of it.
And.
We are called to whole lifeworship.
(07:16):
Not just Sunday worship, notjust Sunday worship.
Yeah.
He created seven days.
That's right.
And and like I said earlier, rest is part of our worship.
Mm-hmm.
So on the seventh day rest.
And so we do gotta honor thatSabbath.
You know, that's part of ourworship.
It is.
And I.
You mentioned Romans 12.
Mm-hmm.
Romans 12, one.
The whole, all of Romans aregreat, but I'm telling Yeah.
(07:37):
Uh, uh, we could do a wholeseason on just Romans 12, 1, 2,
and three.
Right.
And maybe we will, maybe, whoknows?
Maybe, maybe.
But, uh, you know what you said,uh, you mentioned, uh, Romans
12, one and surrender.
Mm-hmm.
I like that.
Yeah.
A lot.
Yeah.
(07:58):
A lot.
And I think as, as Paulencourages, uh, God's people to
present their bodies as live andsacrifices that, that we must
first surrender our hearts tohim who sees our hearts over
everything else.
You know, king Solomon in theproverbs, he encourages us and
(08:18):
he, he declares that we gottaguard our hearts over all else
because everything that we are.
Everything that we are flowsfrom our hearts.
So once our hearts aresurrendered to his will and way,
then our sacrifice bodies haveno trouble following suit.
Yeah.
What do you say about thatthere?
(08:39):
Lovely lady.
Well, I, first off I say amen tothat because it does, like we
said, it all starts with theposture and a heart of
surrender.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
But why don't you tell us about.
Like the issue.
The challenge.
The challenge, right?
Because we don't, we don't dealwith problems.
(09:00):
We face challenges.
That's right.
That's right.
So here's the challenge.
Somewhere along the way.
Unintentionally, maybe we madeworship about a once a week
event.
Mm-hmm.
If that, at best, a once a weekevent and maybe we fell into the
lie or maybe we were deceivedthat if we're not on the worship
(09:21):
team or if we, if we missed thatSunday service then, then we
lost our worship for the week.
Then we, we missed the bus onworship if, if we weren't on the
team or we, if we weren't inchurch on Sunday.
Yeah.
But you know, that, that, aswe've said, that can't be
further from the truth becauseit doesn't even sound right.
Because worship really is, it'sa way of life that reflects,
(09:43):
like we said, our heart'sposition with our creator.
Absolutely.
So it affects our heart'sposition with our creator, and
when we confine it to aplatform.
We actually miss the invitationto walk with God all week long,
and I wanna walk with God allweek long.
I don't just wanna walk with himon Sunday.
I wanna worship him ineverything that I do.
(10:05):
And because once a week worship,it puts him in a very small box.
And there is no vessel thatcontain, that can contain the
glory of our God.
No, there is not.
There is no vessel that cancontain that.
So I can't put him in a box andonly worship one day that
that'll preach.
I'll preach.
(10:25):
There's another season rightthere on down the line.
Uh, write that down.
Write it down.
Worship is a way of life thatreflects our hearts position
with our creator.
With our creator, with ourcreator, absolutely.
It's not just about the song weconnect with, uh, friends.
Worship should passionatepassionately reflect his worth
(10:50):
to us as his people as Christfollowers.
We are his people.
We've been bought with a price.
So what's that worth to us?
Mm.
What's that worth to you people?
Wow.
Uh, while, while we most oftenreflect on, on what he's done
for us, uh, shouldn't worship, Ithink worship should be about
(11:12):
more than, more than just whathe is done for us.
But honoring him for just who heis.
Oh yeah.
Absolutely.
But seriously.
Yeah.
If the Lord has done all thathe's going to do for you, I'm
not saying that's it, but justmm-hmm.
You know, case scenario.
Yeah.
If he's done all that he's gonnado for you, is he still worthy
(11:34):
of your worship?
Oh, all day.
Every day, all day, all day, allday.
Every day I can speak for myselfand I can, you know, all day,
every day.
Your darn right is worthy ofworship.
You know, I can tell you therehave been seasons where I have
led worship on a platform and Istill go home feeling empty and
(11:58):
it, and it wasn't because Godchanged.
Yeah.
You know, he doesn't change.
He, he is a never changing God.
But I might have been singingwith my, my mouth, but my heart
wasn't postured properly.
My heart was distracted and justnot focused on him, probably on
(12:20):
the world or circumstancessurrounding me.
Or maybe the, you know, whateverhappened in the parking lot
before we got into the church.
I mean, who knows, right?
Hard telling.
But my heart wasn't postured andI was distracted, right?
Yeah, I can definitely relate tothat.
Yeah, go figure.
I, I think that, uh, I think anyof, any one of us could relate
to that.
Mm-hmm.
(12:40):
You know, I used to think thatworship, yeah.
It's, it's not really my thing,man.
Uh, you know, I don't play aninstrument.
You know, I, I wasn't, uh, Iwasn't super expressive.
Uh, but then I realized thatwhen I'm in, uh.
Most times when I'm in thekitchen or I'm over that flaming
(13:01):
grill, listening to stripersometimes, you know, need to
breathe is another good one.
I like Need to breathe.
Oh, need to breathe is good.
Yeah.
They're pretty good.
Yeah.
Uh, but when I'm serving myfamily or when I'm out in the
woods with the guys, that's,that's a good place, man.
Yeah.
Out there beholding his glory.
Yeah.
Saying all this mm-hmm.
(13:22):
Was created.
Yeah.
Uh, when I, when I'm out in thewoods with the guys, or whenever
I get hit with a scripture, Ioutta nowhere when he just drops
the, the logos word on me andsays, Hey, check that out, man.
Uh, and, and I marvel over howit relates to my current
situation.
(13:43):
In these moments, I have nochoice but to, but to stop and
worship the Lord and keepworshiping the Lord, it's, it's
a perpetual.
Cycle of worship through ourdays.
You had mentioned that, uh,worshiping every day.
Yeah.
Not, not just on Sunday, youknow, and I, I'll second that
and I, I'll third that even.
(14:04):
'cause man, I've seen me withoutJesus and I, I want me too, I
want make sure, I wanna makesure that I invite him into
every day.
Yeah.
Every day.
Yeah.
So, like I mentioned earlier,we, we were all created
differently.
But we were createdrelationally.
Right.
To, to love God.
(14:26):
Mm-hmm.
And to love each other.
Yeah.
So worship, it looks differentfor each one of us.
Right.
So don't get hung up on, on thesong.
Right.
It's about way more than justthe music people.
Well, yeah.
Because when we approachanything with a surrendered
heart.
A genuine love for God.
I mean, it becomes holy.
(14:48):
Our, our everyday actions are,are transformed into worship.
Yeah.
That's why leading from a placeof surrender is, is so powerful
because when we view our work, our business, our time, and even
our physical bodies as offeringsto the Lord, everything we do
becomes an act of devotion.
(15:10):
Absolutely.
Everything, everything.
Folding laundry.
I did that earlier today andyes.
Right.
Yes.
I, I was even, you know, worshiping him through that.
I can promise you she waswhistling at least while she was
folding the laundry.
And, uh, but again, it's notabout the song, it was the
posture of my heart while I wasdoing, while I was folding the
(15:30):
laundry.
Excellent point.
There's the point.
It's the posture of the heart.
What about managing our businesswith integrity?
Oh, absolutely.
Absolutely.
Mm-hmm.
And.
Here, here's a, what aboutloving your neighbor when you
don't agree or when it'sinconvenient?
Ooh.
Yeah.
I would say especially that, probably especially that, right?
(15:50):
Yeah.
Because it's not alwaysconvenient.
It's not always convenient, butyou know, and I can attest that
we're not always the mostneighborly people, but, you
know, but we're doing better atit.
Progress, not perfection, right?
That's it.
Right?
So, so, so let's.
Get to some super practicalways.
(16:11):
Woo.
I love practical.
I know you, you say that everytime I say the word practical.
I don't know.
I think it might be a thing,but, but let's, here's five ways
that we can start, and I say we,because we're preaching, we're
preaching to ourselves in thistoo.
Absolutely.
You know how we can start livinga.
(16:32):
Deeper life of worship.
Yeah.
So Allen mentioned earlier, um,you know about awe.
So start your day with awe and Imean, awe for the father.
Yeah.
For our creator.
So before you reach for yourphone, you know, take a breath.
Thank God that you are here tosee another day.
(16:53):
Yeah.
You know, and realign your heartfrom go mode to grace mode.
Because when we walk in Grace, yeah.
When we don't walk and go, butwhen we walk in grace, yeah.
It's so much better.
Yeah.
And you said start your day withawe, you know?
Yeah.
They, it's such a comment and Ilove that.
Start our day with awe becausemm-hmm.
(17:13):
We start our day with the Lord.
Yeah.
And they, the.
Everyone says, man, that wasawesome.
Yeah, but you know, you knowwho's actually awesome.
Everything's not awesome, right?
But God is actually awesome.
So we should start our day withawe.
Well, and to that point, someonesaid that to me not that long
ago about the word awesome, andit's really made me start to
(17:36):
reflect now on when I use thatword, right?
So I might even be type, I usedto type all the time in the
text.
Oh, that's awesome.
Awesome.
Yeah.
That's awesome.
But now I'm like, oh, you knowwhat?
Maybe it's just amazing.
Yeah.
Or maybe it's just great becausehe is the only thing that is
awesome.
He is the only thing.
That's awesome.
(17:56):
So right on.
Sorry.
So number two is welcome worshipinto our dailies.
Yeah.
Into our dailies.
Talk to God while you drive.
Mm-hmm.
You know, I, I used to listen tomusic all the time.
Now I, now I'm into some, somebiblically based and, uh, uh,
podcasts or whatnot.
(18:17):
Mm-hmm.
But sometimes, you know, usuallyfirst thing in the morning, just
talk with God while you drive.
It's quiet.
Mm, quiet and, uh, so talk toGod while you're driving.
Invite him along on yourerrands.
Turn cleaning into praise andworship time.
This, or folding laundry orfolding laundry.
(18:39):
This might sound silly, butfriends, do you believe?
Yeah.
That's what it all comes downto.
Yeah.
What we believe.
So I ask you, do you believethat he wants your spirit to be
uplifted through even the mostmenial tasks?
Because he does.
Yeah.
You know, what about in invitinghim in when?
(19:03):
When we're doing something thatwe don't want to do.
Ugh.
Yeah.
You know, we do it.
We do it all the time.
We might do it daily.
Mm-hmm.
We got something that we don'twant to do around here or
something.
Most often we call it eating thefrog.
Eating the frog, you know, soyou might not want to do it, but
it needs done.
Mm-hmm.
Turn on some praise and worshipand watch the atmosphere shift.
(19:24):
Yeah, it's pretty cool whathappens.
Invite him into your dailies andsee what happens.
It doesn't have to be perfect tobe powerful.
It just has to be from ourheart.
That's it.
I love that, babe.
Yeah.
So number three is let obediencebe your offering.
Mm.
(19:44):
And that's tough sometimes.
Yeah.
But saying yes to God when itcosts you something.
Yeah.
Oh, that's worship.
Yeah.
I mean forgiveness when it costsyou, you know, pride.
Pride.
Well, when it costs you prideand you have to be humble,
there's another season toforgive someone.
Yeah.
That's a whole nother season.
It, you know, generosity, that'sworship.
(20:07):
You know, our tithe, whetherit's our time or whatever it is,
it, it all counts.
Yeah.
You know?
Um.
What I wanna say about that is,and I just heard this said again
today, it's been, I've heard itnumerous times, but someone's
blessing is on the other side ofyour obedience.
Yeah.
(20:27):
When God calls you to dosomething, it's not.
Always for you.
Yeah.
The blessing.
Oftentimes it's for someoneelse.
Every time I've said yes,there's a blessing.
Yeah.
And it might not be my blessing.
Mm-hmm.
But it's someone's blessing.
That's right.
Every, there is a blessing.
Every, he always blesses theYes.
Yes.
Always.
(20:48):
Always.
So what else?
So number four.
Yeah.
Is create a worship friendlyatmosphere.
Mm.
That's good.
There you go.
She's really good at doing that.
We're, we're really good atdoing that, you know, but she's,
uh, she models it really well.
Aw, that's good.
So it's, uh, so create a worshipfriendly atmosphere, fill your
(21:11):
space mm-hmm.
With reminders of who he isYeah.
And how good he's been to you.
Whew.
I was just reflecting on thatthe other day.
I said, Lord, you're just sogood to me.
Yeah.
So, so how do we fill our spacewith that, you know, family
pictures, pictures of friends.
Mm.
Scriptures that have changed ourlife perspective.
(21:33):
Mm-hmm.
We have a, um, a dear friend ofours, uh, her and her husband do
ministry with us, and she made, she had this little block of
wood and mm-hmm.
She, uh.
It's a and she painted it andthen she sanded it, and then she
painted it, and then she paintedblessed on it.
Yeah.
And that, that hangs in our, inour bedroom above a tv That's
(21:57):
never on.
Never.
And, uh, but every day when wewake up, first thing we, yeah.
And that, that reminds us that.
Mm-hmm.
You know, we don't, we don'tneed that, that one that reminds
us of our friends and howblessed we are to have them as
friends.
Mm-hmm.
Uh, brothers and Sisters inChrist and Ministry Partners,
(22:17):
but it reminds us of man, we,uh, he has brought us so far
from where we came from.
Yeah.
And that's, and that we, howblessed we actually are.
Yeah.
So, thank you Sandra.
August.
August, yeah.
Yes.
Um, so notable verses that haveI mentioned that notable verses
that have changed their life.
(22:37):
I'd have to go with Romans 12,two mm.
Mm-hmm.
That was one of the first ones.
Um, for me, um, and so on.
And the list goes on.
Yeah.
Uh, whatever glorifies God, we,we need to glorify, we should
be.
We, we don't need to.
We should, we should want to ashis, yeah.
As his sons and daughters.
Uh, we should want to glorifyhim by recalling and reflecting
(23:00):
his goodness in our lives.
Mm-hmm.
And as we recall and reflect hisgoodness and all that he's done.
And just who he is with us andfor us that shuts down the noisy
distractions that keep us fromhis still small voice of truth.
(23:20):
Absolutely.
Yeah, absolutely.
Still small voice of truth.
Hmm.
So number five is surrendersomething daily.
Yeah.
So ask the Lord, is thereanything that I need to lay down
today?
I mean, worship is an invitationto trust him more, to put our,
our faith.
In our creator.
(23:41):
Yeah.
To to honor him and with ourtrust and our obedience and all
of that.
But Lord, what do I need tosurrender to you today?
Right?
What do I need to lay down?
What thought do I need to laydown right?
Or what, what family membermaybe do I need to lay down,
right?
And Lord, how can I worship youthrough my surrender?
(24:02):
Yeah, that's good.
So what do we need to lay down?
And once we, once we lay thatdown, once we release that
mm-hmm.
What he wants us to release, then we have room to receive
what he wants us to receive.
Yeah.
Right on.
That's, that's, that's one,because he always gives us
something.
He always, always fills thatspace.
Right.
When we surrender something tohim, he always gives us back
(24:25):
truth and willing return whenwe're willing Yeah.
To surrender.
Right.
He will fill that space.
Yeah, absolutely.
So worship, it's, it's more thanemotions.
Mm-hmm.
It is not just about a feeling.
It's not about feelingsomething.
It's about giving something.
Yeah.
And the most beautiful thing.
We can give him is our heart.
(24:46):
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
So here's your challenge forthis week.
Okay?
Find one place in your everydayrhythm.
One place, maybe it's your.
Commute, like Allen said,fortunately I don't have a
commute anymore, but, um, butit's in my morning.
Talk about a blessing.
(25:07):
It's, it is a blessing, but it'sin my morning devotions with
him.
It's, you know, maybe it's yourmorning coffee or maybe it's
folding the laundry.
And invite our good, good fatherinto that space.
Ask him, how can I turn thisinto worship?
Maybe it's doing the dishes.
I personally hate the dishes.
(25:27):
But maybe I need to learn toturn it into worship.
Maybe.
So, maybe there's work, there's,we're all works in progress, so,
but we, it's important toremember that worship doesn't
have to be loud, long, orlyrical.
Mm-hmm.
It just needs to beauthentically from.
Our heart for sure, and we'dlove to hear how you are living
(25:52):
worship this week.
So tag us on social media atFaithfully invested, or shoot us
a message in at our site,faithfully invested.com.
We'd love to hear from you, andwe really wanna know how you're
doing worship this week.
Yeah, we'd definitely love tohear from you.
So next time, that's a wrap forthis week.
(26:12):
Yeah.
But next time we're gonna betalking about.
Something that we've all faced.
Mm-hmm.
The question will be, what do wedo when God seems distant?
Mm.
We've been there.
Yeah.
And we've got some encouragementfor you.
Yes, we do.
So if this episode encouragedyou, let us know.
Share it with a friend, DM usyour thoughts, and please leave
(26:36):
us a five star review.
Yeah.
But until then, keep your hearttuned to his faithfulness and
remember that when.
You are faithfully invested.
God brings the increase.
We'll see you next time.
See you next time.
Thanks for joining us onFaithfully Invested with Allen

Jo, if today's conversationencouraged you, challenged you,
