Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to Faithfully Living, the Podcast, where we
learn how to live for Christ inour daily lives.
I am Dwan, your host, and Iwould like to invite you on a
journey with me to explore andlearn how to be a faithful
follower of Christ.
Hi everyone, welcome toFaithfully Living, the podcast,

(00:27):
where we strive to encourage youto live for Christ faithfully
by offering guidance on how tostudy the Bible, how to
understand the Bible better andhow to remain faithful to
historic Christianity and acontemporary society.
The scriptures exhibit fully,as clear evidence of their own
truth, as white and black thingsdo of their color or sweet and

(00:50):
bitter things do of their taste.
John Calvin, I have a questionfor you Can we trust the Bible?
If you believe that the Bibleis God's word, then the answer
should be yes.
In today's episode, we will betalking about the inerrancy of
scripture.
The Bible is the word of God insuch a way that when the Bible

(01:15):
speaks, god speaks.
Bb Warfield, when we thinkabout God, his character, one of
his attributes, is that he istruth.
God can't err.
Therefore, the Bible can't err.
So to deny the inerrancy of theBible, one must either affirm

(01:37):
that God can err or that theBible is not the word of God.
We know that God is completelytrustworthy, so the Bible is not
the word of God.
We know that God is completelytrustworthy, so the Bible is
completely trustworthy.
Hebrews 6, 18 tells us that itis impossible for God to lie.
In Titus 1, 2, Paul speaks ofthe God who does not lie.

(01:59):
So our belief in the doctrineof Scripture should be grounded
in the doctrine of God.
If you believe that God isscripture's author, then we
shouldn't separate the characterof the divine author from the
character of his divine speech.
So the truthfulness ofscripture is reflected in the
truthfulness of its divineauthor.

(02:20):
It tells us who God says he isand what will he do and what he
has promised.
So the word of God is inspired.
He breathed out his word andthe Holy Spirit guided the
writers to write the Bible.
The Bible has one author andthen it has many, over 40

(02:41):
writers.
Now, while God used humanauthors, the ultimate word of
God resonates from the divineauthor, god.
All right, so let's defineinerrancy.
So here is a definition ofinerrancy from systematic
theology and an introduction tobiblicalrine by Wayne Grudem.

(03:05):
He says the inerrancy ofScripture means that Scripture
in the original manuscript doesnot affirm anything that is
contrary to fact.
This definition focuses on thequestion of truthfulness and
falsehood in the language ofScripture.
The definition in simple termsmeans that the Bible always

(03:27):
tells the truth and that italways tells the truth
concerning everything it talksabout.
This definition does not meanthat the Bible tells us every
fact there is to know about onesubject, but it affirms that it
does say.
That it does say about anysubject is true.
Then there also is a definitionby paul finberg that says when

(03:50):
all the facts are known, thescriptures, in their original
autographs and properlyinterpreted, will be shown to be
wholly true in everything theyaffirm, whether it has to do
with doctrine or morality orwith the social, physical or
life sciences.
So when we look at inerrancy,it's a belief in the total truth

(04:12):
and reliability of god's word.
So when theologians and biblescholars talk about inerrancy,
they're referring to theoriginal writings of scripture.
We don't have the originalautographs, as we call today.
We only have copies andincluded many copies of each of
the book, and there are smalldifferences here and there

(04:36):
within the copies, but inreality they're amazingly
similar.
So when you think aboutinerrancy, it doesn't mean
everything in the Bible is true.
So if you've read through theBible, you know that there is
record of people lying, such asin Joshua 9.
Even you have the words of thedevil.

(04:57):
You know he tells a lie to Evewhen he deceives her, but we can
be sure that there are accuraterecord of the things that took
place.
So the doctrine of biblicalinerrancy is essential because
it's a matter of truth.
It reflects on the character ofGod and is foundational for our

(05:20):
understanding of everythingthat the Bible teaches.
The Bible teaches If thescripture is not infallible in
the supreme rule of faith andpractice, they are of no
authority.
Charles Hodge, all right, so weknow that God used men to write
his holy word.

(05:40):
We can find this in 2 Peter 1,20-21,.
It says Above all, you mustrealize that no prophecy in
Scripture ever came from theprophet's own understanding or
from human initiative.
No, these prophets were movedby the Holy Spirit.
They spoke from God.

(06:01):
So the Holy Spirit moved men towrite God's holy word.
He allowed them to use theirown styles, culture, gifts and
character, and he used them as aresult of their study and
research.
And they wrote of their ownexperiences and expressed what

(06:22):
was on their mind.
Yet at the same time, the Holyspirit didn't allow error to
influence their writings andthey accurately recorded all god
wanted them to say, exactly howhe wanted to.
Just to say it.
So to be clear that everythingin the bible is true.
You know, there are records ofpeople lying, like I say, the

(06:44):
devil lied to eve in the garden.
But we can be sure that thebible accurately recorded what
took place.
So it's vital for us, aschristians, to believe that the
bible is true.
Inerrancy governs our belief inthe trustworthy character of god
.
If scripture is unreliable, howyou know, how can we offer the

(07:08):
world a reliable gospel?
How can we, how can we be sureon any issue if we're suspicious
of errors anywhere in the Bible?
The Holy Scriptures begin God'sown word, by men prepared and
superintended by his spirit, areinfallible, true and divine

(07:31):
authority in all matters uponwhich they they touch a w tozer.
The truth of God can be read inthe bible and all the things
that scripture asserts, the holytruth, and all the things that
scripture asserts are whollytrue, both in the Old Testament,
the scriptures of Jesus and theapostles.

(07:54):
They had the Old Testament andthen the New Testament, the
writings of the apostles.
So if the Bible were not true, the gospel message wouldn't be
true and that would leave uswithout a means of salvation.
When you go back and readthrough the New Testament, jesus
treated the Old Testamentscriptures which was the part of

(08:21):
the scriptures that Jesus hadthe New Testament hadn't been
written yet, you know alwayswith other truth, reverence and
never with suspicion towards hisreliability.
So even Jesus says, as the, asgod you know, revered the holy
scriptures as reliable, whichwas the old testament.
And many times jesus and thejews had strong disagreements on

(08:47):
how the old testament was to beinterpreted and then whether
jesus was who he says.
He is net, but never once didthey disagree on whether the
text interpreted was trustworthy.
So Jesus and the religiousrabbis might have disagreed on

(09:09):
the interpretation of thescriptures, but they never
disagreed on the trustworthinessof the scripture as a whole, on
the trustworthiness of thescripture as a whole.
So Jesus referred to the OldTestament as the word of God
which cannot be broken.
He said that in John 10, 35.
He said Until heaven and earthdisappear not the smallest

(09:30):
letter, not the least stroke ofa pen, but by any means
disappear from the law untileverything is accomplished.
And that was Matthew 5, 18.
Jesus said to the religiousleaders of his day unify the
word of God by your traditions, and that's in Mark 7, 13.
Jesus turned their attention tothe written word of God by

(09:53):
affirming over and over again asit is written, as it is written
, that's a phrase that occursover 90 times in the New
Testament and it's a strongindication of the divine
authority of the word of God.
Nay, if there are any mistakesin the Bible, there might as

(10:15):
well be a thousand.
If there be one falsehood inthat book, it did not come from
the God of truth.
I think you know, as a society, truth is and should be
important.
You know, the Bible gives ustruth because the author of the

(10:36):
Bible embodies what truthactually is.
So it's important for us, asChristians, to believe that the
Bible is true Inerrancy.
It governs our belief on thetrustworthiness of the character
of God.
If scripture is unreliable, like I said, how can we offer

(10:58):
the world a reliable gospel?
How can we be sure of truth onany issue if you know we're
suspicious that the Bible isn'ttrue?
So think about it and untilnext time, remember God is
always good and he's alwaysfaithful.
Next time, remember God isalways good and he's always

(11:20):
faithful.
