Jackie (00:00):
Hello, and welcome back to games of the week where we
have ten minutes or less to talkabout I mean, we have ten
minutes tops. We can do or lessif we want to talk about
whatever games we've beenplaying this week. And, this
week as in not necessarily thisweek, but in the past, we have
been playing minesweeper. And bywe, I mean me and Jan. Hello,
Jan.

Jan (00:19):
Hello. I am me.

Jackie (00:22):
Yeah. I'm Jan. That's me.

Jan (00:24):
Yeah. We are Jan.

Jackie (00:27):
We are Jan. We are the collective Jan. So what what
form of minesweeper have youbeen playing most frequently on
your phone?

Jan (00:38):
So two, really. First one is infinite minesweeper.

Jackie (00:44):
Yes. Yes. Yes. That's the one I have been playing.

Jan (00:47):
Yes. Very big board, very big minesweeper. Lots of mines
to sweep. Yes. The second one, presumably, you can talk about
that one later.
The second one is Fill A Pix,which technically says it's
Minesweeper, but really it's theobject of the game is more to,

(01:09):
find the mines Yeah. Not toavoid them, but to actively
click on them.

Jackie (01:16):
Yeah. I downloaded it. And for one, whenever I first
started it, the tutorial didn'tload, and I tried figuring it
out on my own, and that didn'twork. And, thankfully, I was
able to to go and and reactivatethe tutorial again. It's, it's a
weird one.

Jan (01:31):
It is a weird one. It's it's sort of like, the the
multiple Picross, apps, but, like, using Minesweeper instead.

Jackie (01:44):
Yeah. That is what I thought. It's like, you know, I
know Jan said this wasMinesweeper, but just looking at
this, it kinda looks likepicross. But it's it's I guess
it's, like, kind of a merge ofboth.

Jan (01:53):
Yeah.

Jackie (01:55):
It does help that, like, the first one that you do is
called stairs, which reallyhelps you figure out what the
fuck you're doing. So looking atthe names of the thing can
really be like, okay. I I gottaget what shape I'm going for. So
I, I'm I'm understanding morehow the rules work again.

Jan (02:14):
Yeah. There's also the fact that the hint system is very
forgiving.

Jackie (02:20):
I did, turn on the, it will tell you when it's wrong
thing.

Jan (02:28):
I I honestly didn't know that was a setting. I just
manually opened the hints to belike, oh, well Yeah. And then I
just click the fix errors buttonand go on my merry way.

Jackie (02:40):
Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's that's fair. I haven't
messed with the hints yet, but,I mean, it's, like, same effect,
basically.

Jan (02:44):
Yeah.

Jackie (02:45):
So you're you're pretty deep into it. I've only played
the the first few. I justdownloaded it, like, an hour
ago.

Jan (02:51):
I mean, yeah. Pre pretty deep into it. Like, about 50 No.
About 75 in. Because each, eachof the, like, available ones at
the start have 25 puzzles inthem.

Jackie (03:07):
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Jan (03:08):
So I'm about halfway through the third one. So it's,
like, 60 something.

Jackie (03:12):
Nice. Yeah. It's, I think I'll stick to regular
Minesweeper just because I havea harder time figuring out this,
but it is it is it isinteresting, and I do like how
forgiving it is with stuff, andit's not, like, ads every two
seconds.

Jan (03:29):
Yes. That's also extremely appreciated.

Jackie (03:35):
Whereas infinite minesweeper, technically, you
can have no ads because, like, Imean, it starts out with ads,
and then you can buy to get ridof ads. But if you Yeah. If you,
fuck up a a square becauseinfinite minesweeper is is like,
it's still like, it's not just,like, one giant board. It's a
bunch of boards next to eachother to make one, infinite

(03:58):
board. Mhmm.
And if you fuck up, like, one ofthe squares, you either have to
pay gems or, watch an ad inorder to, activate that square
again, or you can, solve everyother square around it.

Jan (04:14):
Yes. That's the one I prefer doing.

Jackie (04:18):
Yeah. But when you fuck up two in a row

Jan (04:21):
Yeah. Well, actually, when you fuck up two in a row, it
does just, like, add on more. But if you still fill the
entire, like, border, it stillif you fill in the entire
border, they are still, like, made available again.

Jackie (04:42):
Oh, well, I mean, like, if they're, like, consecutive
next to each other, they're not.Right?

Jan (04:47):
No. Even then.

Jackie (04:48):
Oh, I thought I had done that, but maybe I haven't.

Jan (04:51):
Yeah. No. It's just a massive, it it just grows way
bigger.

Jackie (04:58):
Right. Like, I know the whole thing grows way bigger. I
just didn't know, like, youcould reactivate it. Like, if
you fuck up a board, that thatboard is locked until you do
everything consecutive next toit. But if you fuck up two
consecutive next to each other, can you I don't you know what?
Yeah. It doesn't matter. Thepoint is, like, you can do ads.
You can do, boards next to eachother, or you can, pay gems,

(05:21):
which you find on the board, andthen you can also, pay money
for. So, like, if you're good atMinesweeper, you don't need to
worry about paying for anythingor ads because there's other
things you can use, gems on,like, different board colors,
which I only recently figuredout.

Jan (05:37):
Oh, now that said, it does also I mean, you you will still
have to pay to remove the ads.

Jackie (05:46):
Oh, yeah. To get rid of ads initially. I did that so
early on. I I keep forgetting toto mention it. Yes.
You do still get ads unless you, unless you pay to get rid of
them. Yeah.

Jan (05:57):
But it would periodically just go ad break. And Yeah.

Jackie (06:01):
Yeah. But it's it's still a lot of fun. Oh my god,
Vincent.
I can't play right now. I'minterrupting my pod-- my ten
minutes, my limited time, butit's it's still good. I I still
really like it, and I'll go inthere to just, like, you know,
just have, like, dozens ofboards I can't touch without,

(06:22):
watching ads and just, like, fuck it. We go forward.

Jan (06:25):
Yeah.

Jackie (06:29):
And with this limited amount of time, I do wanna
mention Dragon Sweeper, which, you know, doesn't super count
because it is a browser game, but it has also, like, made it
to where you can play it onmobile. Like, it it it works on
the mobile browser.

Jan (06:44):
What is a browser game except a mobile for PC games?

Jackie (06:48):
Right. Like, I mean, that's how, like, adventure
capitalism and a bunch of othergames, started out, as as
browser games initially. I justI just can't talk about
Minesweeper without talkingabout the game that has been
destroying my life. The it'sDragon Sweeper. It's on,
itch.io.
It it it it does have someonehas made a fake mobile app, so

(07:13):
do not get that. It is not bythe same person. I I should say
that since I mentioned this on aa mobile game podcast is there
is a a fake one out there. Butit is a minesweeper, except you
are, there are mines, but thereare also, like, enemies you have
to fight and you have health. And there's, like, patterns that
you have to recognize or scrolldown and read the comments for

(07:35):
other people to tell you whatthe patterns are so then you can
figure it out.
And, there are differentachievements for, like, a board
clear or for, like, certainpacifist- esque runs. And the
creator is, like, constantlyupdating it. Like, usually just,
like, in little bits. Therehasn't been, like, a major
update in a few days, but, Idon't know. It's a it's a cool

(07:56):
game, and I guess this is justour Minesweeper era.

Jan (08:02):
Finally grown old. That's that's what happens.

Jackie (08:05):
Right. Like, I used to it's so funny because I fucking
hated Minesweeper. Like, youknow, in the early days,
whenever you're waiting for theInternet to connect and your
computer to finish starting up,you would just, like, play the
games already installed onWindows. And I tried out
Minesweeper and FreeCell andeverything, and FreeCell wasn't
too bad. But, it it was reallyall just just pinball all the

(08:26):
way down.

Jan (08:27):
Yeah.

Jackie (08:29):
But mine minesweeper, good, actually.

Jan (08:36):
Who'd have thought? Which

Jackie (08:37):
which do you prefer? Do you prefer infinite minesweeper
or, the the Fill a Pix?

Jan (08:42):
Fill a Pix. I honestly, Fill a Pix is not Minesweeper. I
know what it says, but it's not.But I I honestly I'm finding
myself playing Fill a Pix more.Yeah.
And maybe that's just, like, recency bias because I've very

(09:03):
I've more recently downloadedFill a Pix than Infinite
Minesweeper.

Jackie (09:08):
Mhmm.

Jan (09:09):
But, like, no. I I do find myself playing Fill a Pix more.

Jackie (09:14):
Yeah. Maybe it's the nonogram pretty picture of it
all. Like, you're you there'ssomething to show for it at the
end.

Jan (09:23):
I do love a good nonogram.

Jackie (09:25):
Yeah. Nonograms are so good. I need to get back into
those and find find some goodones that aren't so ad and and
purchase heavy.

Jan (09:33):
Yeah.

Jackie (09:34):
But, anyway, we are, basically out of time. Go play
minesweeper. All of them. Anyminesweeper.

Jan (09:43):
This was the moral.

Jackie (09:45):
Yeah. We'll see you next week. Bye bye.
