Speaker 1 (00:16):
Thank you, Welcome to
another episode of Fan Faces
(00:55):
Plus with your boy, Amadou.
Amadou the Great.
Whoever you are, however youare, I'm happy to have you.
Listen to me, watch me.
Got a couple of things to getoff my chest today and let's hit
the road going.
Let's hit the road, huh.
Okay, some of the things I willbe discussing today is the
beginning of the NFL season andthe direction of this podcast.
(01:16):
Also, today we are starting, also a new segment Today in
Sports History.
We'll put it all together, tieit all in and let's see where
this goes.
All right, Thank you out therefor listening, Subscribe, share,
tell a friend to tell a friend.
We'll appreciate you much.
Let's keep this show on theroad.
Huh.
All right.
Today in sports, it's thebeginning of the football season
(01:40):
.
Well, the football seasontechnically started on Thursday
September September.
The football season technicallystarted on Thursday September
5th, but I'm not sure We'll getback to you guys, but some of
(02:01):
the games that the first game ofthe season was between the
Kansas City Chiefs and theBaltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson
and the Baltimore Ravens fellshort.
But you know, as the seasonstarts, some teams play a little
sloppy.
Offense is far ahead of defenseand defenses are not as
well-equipped to challengeoffenses.
So Kansas City won the gamebecause their offense was
(02:22):
clicking.
They weren't playing up to thehigh-octane level that they're
used to.
But a couple of people chippedin Xavier Worthy, the new draft
pick, chipped in two touchdownsand Patrick Mahomes chipped in
another passing touchdown andbasically the Ravens' offense
kind of wanted to run throughLamar, literally and
(02:43):
figuratively.
They ran through Lamar.
Literally and figuratively, they ran through Lamar and Lamar
got hot a little too late, andyou know it happens in sports.
But for the most part the teamnow supposed to win the game won
the game.
And you know, the footballseason's young the 2023,
(03:09):
actually the 2024, 2025 footballseason's uh young.
The 2023 20 actually the 20242025 football season's young.
So the ravens look like theycould compete as long as they
get their ducks in a row a la,using their skilled and talented
uh players, ie derrick henryand their cohorts of running
backs, their hustling, bustling, running back room, if they use
(03:30):
them properly, and they letLamar be the quarterback that
he's supposed to be instead ofhim being the main runner of the
ball.
Let Derrick Henry run the ball, let the other running backs run
the ball instead of Lamar beingyour quarterback and your
running back.
You got to booze on DerrickHenry, Let him tote the ball,
Let him take the hits.
All in all, like I said, theteam now is supposed to win the
(03:53):
game, won the game, and I meanyou're 0-1, but the sky's the
limit for the Ravens, so we'llsee how the rest of the season
goes for them.
But the next team on hand here, but the next team on hand here,
the next game on hand here, which was on Friday, for the
first time the NFL played a gamein Brazil.
(04:14):
It was between the Green BayPackers and the Philadelphia
Eagles.
It was a very competitive game,Very good back and forth.
The quarterbacks are young, they're dual threat quarterbacks
.
Jordan Love's a dual threatquarterback, Jalen Hurts is a
(04:35):
dual threat quarterback.
Jalen Hurts is more of a dualthreat quarterback than Jordan
Love, but they both competed.
It was a close game.
It was a win for me in fantasybecause I had Jordan Love as a
quarterback and I had SaquonBarkley as my running back.
So all in all, it was a goodgame.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was offensively leaning andI love that about football
(04:59):
because it makes for a fireworkshow.
So, but Jordan Love ended upgetting injured and supposedly
it's a spring MCL per AdamSchefter.
So you know he's going to beout for two to three weeks but
it could be better.
But the Eagles, they look decenttoo.
Saquon Barkley on his debut onthe Eagles offense he looked
(05:21):
unstoppable.
Three touchdowns, Come on, thesky's the limit for them.
Also.
I mean, it's game one.
You can't really tell that muchabout a team game one.
But you know that they're goingto be humming and they're going
to be a team to be reckonedwith.
But so the next games on thedeck?
Here you got the Sunday morninggames.
(05:43):
Sunday early games.
The Bills won.
They kind of played sloppy onoffense.
Josh Allen kind of tried toplay hero ball in the first half
and they settled down.
They settled in into what theydid.
But I feel their key to successmoving forward is let your
skilled position players take onthe ball and do what they need
to do.
Don't let Josh Allen play heroball and lose you the game.
(06:07):
Or Josh Allen play hero balland get hurt and him getting
sidelined would be the worstthing to ever happen for the
team.
The team would probably suckreally bad because he's a
heartbeat of the team, but allin all the Bills looked good.
They pulled out a win againstthreatening Arizona Cardinals in
Calamari.
They came in, they scored firstand they were up 17-3 uh,
(06:29):
before the half.
But all in all the cardinalslooked great.
The bills looked great.
It wasn't the best bills gamebut it's also the first game of
the season and they put ittogether well.
Some of the teams that surprisedme I mean I wasn't paying
attention to them so much, butthey surprised.
Surprised me.
Minnesota Vikings surprised meby beating the Giants and the
way they beat them, and the NewOrleans Saints.
(06:54):
They beat the Carolina Panthersand in the fashion in which
they beat them.
That doesn't spell that doesn't, it's not.
It doesn't look good for thefuture of the Carolina Panthers
Because they're supposed to haveI mean, it's not that they're
supposed to have, it's a newregime, new coach, new head
coach and they're supposed to,you know, do their thing and you
(07:17):
know, be ready to play hard.
But it's not looking that wayright now.
Oh, you know, it's the firstgame of the season for most
teams and the Carolina Panthersmay rebound from this.
But who knows?
And I wish them luck really.
(07:38):
But the late games, I'll justmake some TikToks about them.
I figured let me make my podcastearlier, sooner than later,
because there's games all theway up to 11 tonight and by that
time it'll be a little too lateto make the podcast.
I want to make it and put itout for the people to consume
(07:58):
after the games.
So the next topic at hand isthe direction of this podcast.
The podcast is called fan faces.
In the, I will be looking forfans of any sports fans from
near and wide, whether it besports or social and pop culture
activities, Whatever you're afan of.
(08:18):
I'm looking for new fans.
I'm looking for fans tointerview, fans to bring on the
show.
Show so that way we can discussyour favorite teams, your
favorite team sports related and, um, your favorite, your
favorite, whatever it is.
Really we're looking to bringfans on.
So that's the direction of theshow fan faces.
Why not have fans in it?
(08:39):
Let the fans come and let thefans talk about their fandom for
anything and everything.
We're open.
But but also we're going tohave a new segment.
This segment is going to becalled Today in Sports History,
and today I have some sportshistory for you guys.
You're in luck.
(09:00):
In 1965, today, September 8th,Bert Campanaris became the first
Major League Baseball player toplay all nine positions All
nine positions in one game.
Bert Campanaris became thefirst Major League baseball
player to play all ninepositions All nine positions in
one game.
Burt Campanaris Never heard ofhim before today, but today in
sports history.
Today in sports history in 1973, Hank Aaron hit his 709th home
(09:24):
run.
That was a record back then, but Barry Bonds is a match that
out the park.
And also today in sportshistory, Herschel Walker made
his first, made his start in theNational Football League after
leaving the New Jersey Generalsof the USFL.
Today in sports history, in1986, Herschel Walker made his
(09:48):
debut in the National FootballLeague after leaving the New
Jersey Generals I believe theNew Jersey Generals were owned
by Trump at that time, but I'mnot sure in the USFL.
And today in sports.
In 1998, Mark McGuire of the StLouis Cardinals hit a 62nd home
run up the season.
He had beaten a record that hasstood for 37 years.
(10:13):
Mark McGuire hit the 62nd homerun of the season, beating a
record that lasted for 37 years.
That's pretty incredible.
We don't talk much baseball inthis podcast, but it's still a
sport out there that people playand they get paid pretty
handsomely for.
If you're a baseball player outthere as a kid, that money's
(10:34):
all guaranteed.
Keep that in mind.
So you're in good position.
Also, in 2002, the HoustonTexans played their first
regular season game.
Today in sports history, theHouston Texans in 2002 played
their first NFL game, and thisyear they looked up on his
contenders in the NFL, looked togo as far as CJ's child will
(10:57):
take him.
They won today, by the way, andStephon Diggs, their new
acquired wide receiver, scoredtwo touchdowns.
So they're looking good.
And today, in 2002, PeteSampras he's a tennis player won
his 14th Grand Slam title whenhe beat Andre Agassi in the US
Open.
(11:17):
Pete Sampras beat Andre Agassiin the US Open and won his 14th
Grand Slam.
Kudos to all those people thatmade history in the month of
September from all those yearsago, from baseball to football
to tennis.
