On this episode of the Fandom Hybrid Podcast, we found a new show to discuss: the Amazon Prime animated series Invincible, based on the comic books series of the same name, written by Robert Kirkman. Invincible tells the story of Mark Grayson, an awkward teenage boy who is half-human, half-Viltrumite. His father is Omni-Man, one of the superhero protectors of Earth; there are other heroes in this episode (called the Guardians of the Globe). This episode introduces us to the complexities of not only being a newly powered teenager trying to balance high school life with a desire to be a superhero, but also shows us that the life of a "superhero" is not always what it seems.
This show boasts a "who's who" of voice talent: Steven Yeun (ahem, excuse me - 2021 Best Actor nominee Steven Yeun!), Lauren Cohan, Ross Marquand, Chad Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green, Lennie James, and Michael Cudlitz - who have all worked on another little show Kirkman did called The Walking Dead; Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Zazie Beetz, Kevin Michael Richardson, Mahershala Ali, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins...I think you get the picture. The end of the episode contains a huge twist that all but guarantees that you will tune in for the next episode.
