Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joined us right now, the reigning miss basketball for the
state of Michigan in twenty twenty five. She learned she
won the award earlier this week and now getting set
full of the semi finals today against the Zebras of
Wayne Memorial and A y Pitch joins us from Rockford
senior guard for your varsity player and a first and
foremost congratulations. And I know you said you were surprised.
What was it like when you found out officially you
(00:22):
were missed basketball?
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Wilson came to my house. He said he had a
meeting to tell talking about some stuff. I had no
clue that he's coming over to tell me the amazing
news of me is inning. But when he did tell me,
my mouth literally dropped and I was completely speechless. He
got a little emotional, which heart willing to see. My
parents were there with me, and my grandparents and my sister.
(00:44):
But I was just speechless. But I was so grateful,
and that's up love was spread.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Don't you think this is a family award. I know
it's individual and that goes to your teammates too, because
I know the love you have for them, and you
couldn't do it without them. But I mean your mom
and all American at Michigan Tech. Your sister up there
playing older sister now, Alyssa, who've got a chance to
play with a winner state championship with you're playing and
kind of mentoring your younger sister, Addison. I mean your
parents are big, you know, sports enthusiasts and so forth.
(01:10):
I'm sure your grandparents are very cool to share that
with them, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
No, definitely, I definitely think this award wasn't just for me.
I kind of said it in my speech when I want,
but there were so many thank yous that I had
to get to, so many people that led me to
winning this, you know call less hours stele with my mom,
in the gym, with my trainers, everyone that supported me.
I definitely could have done it without them, especially my teammates.
They're the ones who feed me the ball and who
(01:36):
supported me the most.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
So I've had a chance to know some mister basketball
from Aria, David Cool who you probably know, Drew Knights,
who did some games with me as far as my
color commentator, and they always said the same thing. It
was one of those that was a goal, but because
it was an individual award, they wanted to win a
state championship, which you've done. They wanted to do other things,
but you know, once you got to that point, because
this was, you know, a four year varsity process for
(02:00):
you as a high school player. But I'm sure even
as a little girl, you're like, I would love to
win that sometime. Right. So when you look back at
all the sweat, tears, gym time that you had, I mean,
pretty amazing. Have you even soaked it in yet?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
I don't think I fully have. Sometimes I still get
goosebumps thinking about everything that not only I accomplished, but
my team has accomplished it definitely later in life and
I look back on it. You know, I won't take
anything for granted. I'm just so grateful. You know.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
One of the things that I watch you when you
get ready for another trip to the Bresident Center. Four years,
four trips, that's pretty good. I don't think you can
do any better. I've watched you grow as a player,
and what I mean by that is you've always had
a basketball like you. You've always had that kind of competitiveness.
I love that taking the ball to the basket. But
this year, have you gotten in your own mind even
(02:46):
better with involving teammates who relying upon them and realizing
they're a big part of this to accomplish what you
have at twenty six and one going in most definitely.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
And I think this team, especially maybe a senior, has
really been an eye opening, especially the leadership role that
I play in the team. This team's super special. We
all play for each other and I think that's been
a big part of not only our amazing run this season,
but also winning this award. Like I said, the teammates
are the ones that do it for you as well
as the coaches, So I give them so much.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Senior guard at Rockford and a y Pitch miss Basketball
join us. So let's fast forward to where we are
today now as we get ready for this big matchup
with Wiyiman Worre, a team that you beat way back
in December. But I know you have a lot of
respect for right.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yes, most definitely, they're an amazing team. You know, you
don't just go to the Bresland to play an easy team.
You know it's a semi final game for States, so
we know that they're going to be a really hard
team to be. We've had it. We have a couple
of practices left. So the best thing that we can
do is get locked in and make sure that we
can control everything that we can control.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
What's the locker room speech and if you can share
it with me. Maybe you can't all of it, But
now as senior, you want it. As a sophomore, you
have a little sister. It's a freshman that I know was.
They are probably the stands watching you and your older
sister win it. What do you say to them today
to make sure they're ready to get to championship Saturday.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I kind of tell them this for every game, just
because you know, even being at the brezel and that's
a super coo opportunity. But you know, we just got
to stay locked in. I think that, especially in a
game like this, you can be extremely nervous, but I
always tell them that nerves are just excitement. You know,
we've trained all season for this, and just because it
candy like picture, it has a really big game, it's
just another game we've worked so hard. We just have
(04:29):
to execute everything that we've worked for.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
I know you have a smile on your face. You'll
enjoy it and congratulations. I normally miss basketball, but an
unbelievable career at Rockford I think eight school records and
going off. I know you're excited about continuing your basketball
career at Butler University.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Right, yep, correct,
