Speaker 1 (00:00):
We mentioned. The Griffins host the Hartford Wolfpack tomorrow, than
the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday, then head to Rockford on
Saturday for the ice Hawks. This is West Michigan's Morning News. Steek, Kelly, Brett, Pikita,
and Laurence Smith joining us seeing the power play with
the Grand Rapids Griffins. Alex Dussette, thanks for doing this today, Alex.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Final problem.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Alex, thanks for stepping in and we appreciate it in
the fact of we've had so many players, whether it's
Griffins or Red Wings ties that have a connection to Michigan.
You know, whether they're born or raised here, played youth
hockey year, played in the Little Caesars program. And you're
a great story because you're from Sherbrooke, Quebec and so
little French Canadian. Their second year is a Griffin, but

(00:40):
really your first because you played only six games last year,
mostly with the Toledo Walleye. So what's it like for
you coming from Canada playing in the Canadian Junior Hockey League,
which is very prestigious, to now playing in the AHL.
How much of a difference has it been.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
It's been a big difference. I'd say, I've always in
youth to play with the FRENCHI eyes in Quebec and
now it's you know, adjustment playing in the States. But
I like it. The boys are nice here. I like
this city as a rap is and just for the
American Hockey League is a tough league. So it's been

(01:15):
pretty good so far.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Who was the toughest player that you played against? It
would be recognizable to fans, uh in the Canadian Junior
Hockey League that now maybe he's playing in the NHL player.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, like like last f junior was really good and
I played him, I'd say, like Dawston Mercer was pretty good.
Oh yeah, I mean when I was sixteen, I didn't
play a lot, but like Dobson was really good.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yeah, it's it's a tough league to come out of,
no doubt about it. In don't realize that because here
in the States they might play you know, junior's here
now and then play college hockey. But a different story
for you. And at twenty three years old you go undrafted,
share with us with that experience was like, and now
to play and be signed for a three year entry

(02:14):
level contract with an organization like the Red Wings.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Straight I wasn't drafted like you said, so it was
a little bit more of a guy and I had
to prove myself a little bit more to sign a contract.
And when I sign it, I was a little bit
pressure out of my shoulders. And it's great to be signed,
like you said, by the detorted Red Wings, our original

(02:37):
six team that are really good with the different men
and really big on it. So it's it's been so far.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
He's a left wing for the Griffins, number forty seven,
having a great year. Let me ask you this, what's
the favorite part for you right now? It might change
as you get older, but favorite part of being a
professional hockey player.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
It's it's your job. So it's pretty if I to
be able to live like well, playing hockey. That's all
you do every day and it's been my dream since
I'm young, so I'm really happy to be able to
do that.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Alex, you said is join us on the Griffin's power play.
Let me ask you this, what's the toughest part And
that might be a difference from even the Canadian Junior
Hockey League. I'm sure there was some travel there, but
what is the most difficult part of being a Griffin?

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yeah, the travel is like we're a lot on the road,
like especially the last month. I feel that's the toughest part.
Been out of town for maybe three quarter of the
month or something like that. So I'd say that's the
worst part of being a professional. But at least the
next month will be on. But it's up and down

(03:49):
the schedule and it's hard to plan some stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
And seven goals, eleven assist, eighteen points through fifty two games. Now,
before you came on, find you out you were from Quebec,
born and raised the I've got to ask you this
because there was a story that came out last week
about the NHL expanding, and you know what happened when
they took the Nordaks away from Quebec and Quebec city,
and then there was talk of well, will they ever

(04:13):
bring Quebec, you know, back an NHL team. Share with
us the frustration with that city and those hockey fans.
I think they should bring it back, but it has
been a point of contention, hasn't it.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Yeah, it'd be awesome with sure, it's so big in Quebec.
It's part of her checking back. They even build a
big rank in Quebec City like seven eight years ago
that the TRIMGHL team played in this so they can
get their NHL team back, but I doubt it. We'll

(04:46):
see maybe in the future, but I don't think the
next few years for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Alex de Sette with Grand Rapids Griffins. Thank you so
much for your time this morning.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
A problem always
