Speaker 1 (00:00):
Griffins back in the playoffs. The postseason starts to night,
joining us on the liveline as we get ready for
the big game. Former captain now assistant coach with the
Grand Rapids Griffins and might we end two time Calder
Cup champion Brian Lashaw. That's right, thanks for joining us
again this morning, No.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Problem, guys, thanks for having me.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
You knew that was going to fire up, Brian. It's
final countdown. You know all about playoff hockey. You've been
watching out with the NHL, But I got to ask you,
as a player, let alone a coach, is it driven
you guys nuts a little bit? I mean, nine days
off from the end of the regular season and now
finally game one of this playoff series.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, it's obviously been. It's been a long wait. Guys
are ready to go. I think I've been ready to
go for a while now. So I think we guys
are sick of hitting each other in practice, ready to
hit somebody else, So we're we're ready to go. Guys
are prepared, so just excited to get things started in
an exciting time of year.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
So let me go to your expertise here, And I'm
curious if you have conversations, especially with the younger players.
That defensive room is a good one. You've got captain
Josiah Didier and Brogan Rafferty have been here before, they're
kind of the lead veterans. But you got some young
guys in that room. What have you seen as far
as their potential as they've gone through this ahel season.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well, I think a lot of them have grown since
the start of the season. You know, you got to
shy view them. Auntie Temisto and mail Viro Wallander. I mean,
these are all young guys that have from the start
of the season have grown and helped get us in
this position here where we're in playoffs. And then obviously
at the end of the season, we had Antonio Hanson

(01:40):
and Axel Sendi Pelic younger prospects that obviously have a
lot of talent. So we have a good group of
young players looking to take the next step. And then
he said some older guys with Rafferty and Divier have
gone on long playoff runs in the past, which I
think that type of experience is huge when you get
to this time of the year, just because of the
emotional roller coaster the playoffs can be so I think

(02:02):
having that type of mix with stender players and then
older guys who have been there, I think make sure
a good a good d room and then you can
help the rest of the team.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I know you love coaching, but you just displayed unbelievable
broadcasting skills there. I worked all week on some of
those names and didn't dare pronounce them, and yet you
just rattled through them and people don't understand. They're like, oh, well,
coaches should know, trust me, And Brian knows coaches don't
always know the last names of these guys coming in
and out. That's why nicknames are popular, right Brian, that's.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
A that's a you see you on a daily basis,
and then you get to know the kids as well.
So I think that's uh, it's important. So it's yeah,
especially with a lot of the European guys coming. It's
not easy when.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
You look at this Texas Stars series and for people
don't know in the HL because of travel can work
different ways this one because of the distance. It's a
two three series, best of five. How different is that
than Best of seven? And what's the message from it's
watching and you guys, especially with the first two being
at home to jump on these guys early.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Well, I think that's it right there is you got
to jump on them right away. You got to take
care of your home licee. You know, historically, especially in
a playoffs fan and has been a tough place to play.
We've got to make sure that it continues to be
that way. And it's a quick series, so there's really
not a ton of margin for air. You gotta you
gotta come out, you gotta be ready to ready to
go out of the gates. And I think you know,

(03:26):
it's not a bad thing having the amount of time
we had off to get healthy and you get prepared
and be ready to go with with energy I think
off the start. So like he said, it's the five
games series. You know things things happen quick right away,
so you got to be ready to go from that.
From game one, there's no u there's no margin for air.
As a serious progresses.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Now, Texas a good team coming in and you know, Brian,
with your runs in the past, I mean you've played
seventy five playoff games in a Griffin's uniform. And the
fact of the other fact factor that comes in and
called a Cup playoffs is what is the parent team
doing now? The Dallas Stars one last night, So you
don't expect any players obviously from the parent club coming
down to help Texas, which has happened in the past.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, that's just the nature of the American League. I mean,
you know, when you have NHL team still playing, it
can Rosters can change, you know, mid series, no different
than in the regular season. You could have one to
be preparing for one roster and then guys get sent
down or called up and things can change. So for us,
I think the biggest thing is just you know, our

(04:29):
focus is on us and you know how how we're
going to be playing, and I think that's got to
be the main focus going forward for us to have,
you know, sustainable success throughout the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Assistant coach now with the Grand Rapid s Griffins, Brian
lash Off. Great stuff is always best wishes for a
great win tonight.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
All right, thanks guys,
