Speaker 1 (00:00):
Griffin's are home for three this week Wednesday, the Colorado
Eagles option No, wait a minute, the Ice Hogs on Wednesday,
then the Eagles Friday and Saturday. Tickets are still available.
We'll have more to give away tomorrow. Joining us on
the liveline in the power Play with the Griffins. Carter Maser,
thanks for doing this today.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yeah, absolutely, thanks for having me number forty three on
your roster right wing and another one with Mitton ties
born and actually went to jacksonne and Christie High School
for a little bit, but Jackson, Michigan was his home,
and then.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Of course went down and played with the Little Caesars
teams and Carter, that's where I want to start the
commitment to hockey. Share with people what you did there
for a while. I mean, drive it an hour each
way to play because that was the place to play
if you're a young, up and coming talent who wanted
to play in the NHL.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Right, Yeah, absolutely, I would say it'd be more of
a commitment from my parents. It's something that I am
very thankful for and very proud of that, especially where
I'm at today, that I can thank them for doing
what they did. My dad would drive me every single
day to practice, and that's a big commitment, especially when
(01:09):
he has his own job to focus on. And he
made sure I got there every single day, and I
can't thank him enough, but it was it was tough.
I'll get out of school at three and hop right
in the car and drive right up to Detroit and
then get done with practice, and I'm back home at
nine o'clock at night and just getting ready for bed
to wake up for school the next day. So it
(01:31):
was a big commitment, but I think it worked.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Out in the end, absolutely. And I was going through
your numbers and I was telling Steven Spitty off air.
I counted up. I think it was when you were
sixteen or seventeen, one of the years when you were
a little caason and you're kind of finishing up and
then probably just signing on where you wanted to go
to college and stuff. I counted that you played seventy
nine games that season. I mean, eighty two is an
NHL season. Carter.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yeah, Triple A hockey was kind of a little different
than it is now, my boy, they didn't really get
tired that much. I could play probably three games in
one day and still feel good. To go the next day,
But yeah, that was a fun year. My coach also
that year was Chris Draper, so pretty special. That pizes
with him now, especially being assistant GM here so to
(02:17):
have him as a coach. And I was practicing at
LCA already, so I was pretty familiar with the Detroit
organization already, and now to be a part of that
and be a part of the HL team, it's some
pretty special today.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Twenty two years old. He's got a birthday coming up
in late March. And you were a third round choice
back in twenty twenty one of the Detroit Red Wings.
You played college hockey though, with the power that is
the pioneers of the University of Denver. And I say
that because there's a little trivia question. People probably don't know.
NCAA hockey championships they have the most all time because
(02:51):
they won last season with ten, beating Michigan WET nine.
And you were a part of a national championship team
in twenty twenty two.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Right, yep, it's I'm very honored to be a part
of that ten. It's something that we very much are appreciative,
and especially to watch them when I know I could
have been back there, but to watch them when it
was pretty special and for my year and twenty two.
(03:19):
I know a lot of people might not like hearing this,
but I'm not a big Michigan fan, and we played
them in the in the second game there in the
Fro I mean, the first game in the Frozen four,
and I think that was kind of my national Championship
team game. I meant because we beat a team with
like Owen power, a bunch of first round picks like
Maddy Banier's Thomas Bord though, like they had an unbelievable team,
(03:41):
and our team prevailed, and that was pretty That was
a good, good year, and I'm happy that I got
to experience that with a bunch of good friends that
I'll remember for the rest of my life.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I'll actually say this on the year, but most people
know what Carter, I'm not a big Michigan fan either.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
So there we go.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
We share that.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I got to ask you, though, the more important one,
because you spend so much time in Denver, playing there
right in the heart of the city. You know the
history tell me that you're not at any time or
were a Colorado Avalanche fan over a Red Wings fan.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
No, no, no, no, that's not now, you're asking too
much here. No. I grew up a Red Wings fan
my whole life, so I can't switch there. Especially when
Draper was my coach and he's telling us a story
about the Lemieux and all that. It's kind of hard
to like that team. But they did win the year
that we did win too, so we did kind of
(04:35):
share that. But that's about it that I've shared.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
With that all right, before we wrap up real quick,
I got fifteen seconds, but I want to get this in.
Favorite hockey movie for Carter Maser.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
Pretty simple, miracle, hard to beat. That's a hard movie
to beat.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
It is you believe in miracles. Yes, but it was
Finland that they had to get through for the gold
medal game.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Good job, Steve Kelly.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Carter Maser with the Grand Rapids Griffins home for three
this week. Thanks for your time today, Yeah
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Absolutely, thanks for having me
