Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, when you hear Griffins games, you hear this guy.
This is West Michigan's morning news Steve Kelly, Brett Makata,
Laurence Smith, radio voice, and even face of the Grand
Rapids Griffins Bob Kaser on the live line. Bob, thanks
for doing this today.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Always a pleasure, Steve Well and Bob, you.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Look at it. You've got a Mattinee game, which always
kind of throws the players off a little bit. Maybe
broadcasters like it because you get a night off. But
as you look at this, Manitoba is one of those
teams that we need to take advantage of. When you
look at the stands, I mean Grand Rapids right now,
third in the Central as two back of Milwaukee, three
back of Texas has kind of been shuffling as we've

(00:38):
gone through the season. A rough patch right now the
Griffins are going through. But as you look at this
right you want to take two on this trip.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Of course, but we wanted to take three in the
last couple of weeks against the Iowa to a team
that was down near the bottom of the of the standings.
But they've become very relevant here lately. Brett was the
rattling off four straight wins and I think it's seven
of the last nine one and now they're they're back
in the picture. Manitoba hasn't hasn't surged yet, and you know,
hopefully they don't start that surge against us. But you know,

(01:09):
it's amazing we set in first place for about what
three months, and now all of a sudden we dropped
the third and we've got the fourth place team Chicago
right on our heels here too. So yeah, these these
are really important games for us, and you know, we're
just still still trying to find our game. Only three
wins in the last thirteen games, and you know, playing
some better hockey here of late, showing some good signs.

(01:30):
So hopefully we can take advantage of a team that's
in last place in our division.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
And Bob, I wanted to ask you because the NHL
trade deadline comes up Friday afternoon three o'clock, and obviously,
with Cop going down, everyone expects the Red Wings to
make a move. They already traded Hilly Whoso to clear
some cap space. What do you think is going to
happen there, because, as you know, the moves there do
affect what you guys are doing as far as a
roster too down the stretch.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, and every American Hockey League team is having these
conversations all week long obviously because you know, selfishly, we
all want to win, and but we also understand that
it's all about the NHL team and how can the
Red Wings get better bred? So you know that that's
that's what they're looking at. You know, we we've got
some great young prospects here, so you know, it'll be
interesting to see if you know, if the Red Wings

(02:15):
package up you know, a guy or two that are
that are hearing grand rapids that wind up somewhere else,
or maybe they do the reverse, maybe they secure a
couple of you know, prospects from other organizations. You know
that there's there's there's this no telling and you just
never know, uh that you know where the minds of
maybe these gms are. And obviously for Steve Eisman, is
a whole lot different than it was what a month

(02:37):
and a half ago, when you know, everybody felt like,
well they're going to be sellers at the deadline because
they were so far out of the playoff picture and
now all of a sudden, this amazing turnaround and to
Tom McClellan, and now they're probably going to be buyers,
you know, so, uh, it'll it'll be interesting to see.
But you know, we we sit on the edge of
our seat down here in Grand Rapids every year about

(02:57):
this time, just you know, wondering how it's gonna affect
our team, but also understanding again it's all about the
Red Wings and how are they going to get better
and how can they get in the playoffs, And that's
what everybody wants right now. Everybody wants the Red Wings
back in the postseason.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Award winning voice of your Grand Rapids Griffins Bob Kaser,
joined us on the power play from Manitoba m AB
best call with you and Larry Fergrisk. You guys do
an amazing job, Bob, you know that. But I wanted
to ask you this as you've gone back and forth
with Detroit and Grand Rapids filling in for Ken Cale.
I was just down there for the Anaheim game a

(03:30):
couple of weeks ago and got a chance to talk
to Ken a little bit too, and they are so
hungry in hockey town just to get back in the playoffs,
and so excited about what the Griffins have provided to
I mean Marco Casper, I mean I looked at the
roster that night, if who they put on the ice
just loaded with Griffin's alumni.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, it's exciting. We've been doing this for a long
time now, bright as you know, and we've got the
chance to see you know, so many great players come
through Grand Rapids. Casper just the most recent and Simon
Edmonson and you know now Joe Hansson on defense and
the delicious goes on and on and on, you know,
grass Muse and et cetera. So you know, it's fun,
it's it's it's you know, obviously again back at that

(04:09):
little selfish thing. We'd love to keep these guys around
here for as long as possible. In some cases we
get them around here for quite a while, but you know,
they're destined to play in the National Hockey Get so
what all these young guys want? And you know, and yeah,
amazing little Seasons Arena still has not hosted the Stanley
Cup playoff game. Like how, you know, how in Heaven's
name is that is that the case? Given the history

(04:31):
of the Red Wings and all those Stanley Cups and
now to not even have been in the playoffs, over
the last but eight years now it's way, way, way overdue.
So we're all Red Wings fans and you know, go Wings.
Let's get back in the postseason here, and certainly it's
exciting time right now up in Detroit with the way
they've turned things around.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Bob is the vice president of a bunch of stuff
with the Griffins, the radio voice, television voice as well
as well as reading the upcoming novel at night off
and winnip we're all looking forward to.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
My gosh.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
You know, Brett mentioned that, you know, it's exciting to
play a morning game. This is cruel and unusual punishment
on us old guys having to get up so early
in the morning to broadcast a hockey game. Come on, Yes,
it's gonna be fun and amazingly enough, Winnipeg, I think
yesterday was the first time in probably twelve years that

(05:24):
I was able to walk around downtown outside, not through
all the tunnels, but outdoors. It was like in the
low thirties here yesterday, so I got to see parks
of Winnipeg have never seen before.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
There it is, Hey, Bob, pregame in two and a
half hours.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Enjoy Thanks guys,
