The offense first led by junior quarterback Owen Ostapo. We
talked about a big game last week. Nineteen carries two

four approaches and they're visiting white uniformers, the green Pants.

starters for head coach Josh Lucas, led by Brady Hump's

one defensive end, Carson Magala on the other side of
junior Nick Potter defensive tackle, one of only two way
starters for the Wildcats. He's a big guy six three
two fifty five handoff left side and right there defensively
to stop him was big number nine Carson mcgala, junior
defensive end. Also over there was big number seventy. I
was just talking about Nick Potter. He's only a sophomore, folks.

Josh Lucas high praise. He thinks he's one of the
best linemen by the time this season is done.

The first play from scrimmage, they really get out there,
good penetration. They try to run Sawyer to the left side,
and that whole side of the offensive line was two
yards back before Sawyer even got the ball, So they're
gonna have to find a way to get him worked
into the rotation.

They can't just go exclusively.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Ostapo loss of three second and thirteen, rolling to his right,
wants to throw now, gonna tuck it and run.

He's got some speed.

Gets to the outside and across the twenty steps out
of the twenty four yard line, right in front of
the Usky bench. That's Owen Ostapo, the junior quarterback. Nice
pick up there on second and long. They'll spot him
out at the twenty four so it's gonna be a
gain of roughly ten maybe nine.

They'll set up third and four now for Fahn. Well,
that's what we see out of Owen.

He gets outside the pocket and nobody available down field,
and he's able to turn on the speed get a
pretty good gain over the right side. But like I said,
Bet Jennison knows he likes to run. He eventually is
gonna have to throw that ball somewhere downfield. Somebody's gotta
get open slot.

literally like a rugby scrum, the offensive line got behind
him pushed him for a first down.

Oh, we've seen it, but not like that where he's
dead the rights and all of a sudden, i mean,
just gets behind him and starts pushing, but it's a
great effort by the offensive line and even the backs
there that like you said, the pocket collapses, he takes
the hit, doesn't find the throwing land, but a great
effort by the Northern offensive line gets them the first down.

What a conversion on third down? Is now a new

Think Owen would probably like to have that one back

know that there's nothing but Fielter in front of you,
like you said, you want to try to grab it
and go. I think Owen probably wants to put a
little more air under that one and just underthrows him.

Jennison getting pressure up front though four down linemen third
and long, Ostapoe wants to drop back a pass again,

It didn't go exactly how coach Eddie Asipo probably drew
it up. But they get the ball out, they're gonna
win the field position battle most likely get the punt down,
and that's really if you can't score, at least put
the other team back.

So they have to go all the way down the field.

Now you mentioned this to me because you know the
Husky as well. They go with a two kicker system.
So two kickers back there in punt formation and Garrett
and amberheind and they can do a lot of different
things off this. They snap it and it's gonna be
Garrett the left foot or to kick it away end
over end kick hits inside the thirty five to thirty four,

Jennison just clears away, takes a favorable husky bounce down
inside the twenty five and gonna be down to the
twenty one yard line. So nice job by Sam Garrett
punting that away. And for Gennison and Josh lucas their
defense holes. I told you he really liked the way
they played in that twenty eight to seven win over
Kalamazoo's Central, saying Kalamazu Central scored late in that game
in the fourth quarter, so they were pitching a shutout.

And now Jennison offensively will take over first and ten
first possession on offense for them in this game with
eight thirty one left to go in the opening quarter,
and they're let out by their quarterback. He's a senior
five to nine one sixty Watchman warm ups though. He's
a guy who can run with his feet and also
has a pretty good armed Parker Felgner had a rushing
and passing touchdown last week and that went over the Maroons.

They come out empty backfield, three wideceivers the right, two
to the left. Felgner sets fires complete, got his man
on an out pattern short at the twenty five fighting
for extra yardage and up to the twenty five for
a game of four on the catch Ethan Morse, a
six ft one hundred and seventy five pounds junior. They've
got Morse, They've got chatfielders also their kicker, and Luke

which means if they go empty that one of the
linebackers is going to be key down.

The quarterback Max McKinney's an extra on receiver. They also
got a good running back and who they handed off
here on second down and long, and that's Brody Skidaim.
He's across to twenty five, rambling with that big body
out across the thirty. Got a first down or close
to it at the thirty one skyt him ran for
over one hundred yards last week in that win. He's
a returning starter and one of only two two way starters.

He and the big fella I mentioned earlier, number seventy,
Nick Potter the only guys to go both ways. You
see that a lot with the bigger numbers in the
OK Red. They want to keep guys fresh. But telling
you what kind of guy or gally he goes about
two hundred and fifteen pounds in sctim it with some speed,
hand off right side, trying to get the edge. Got
it as he got enough for the first on that
last carry and carrying it would be tacked or across

the thirty five and out of bounds on the far
sideline out near the thirty eight.

Let's see where they spot him.

Nice run of seven that time by skyte him and

big guy.

Well, and right now Northern is starting to cycle some
guys in defensively. Clearly the running game with Skytamin is
the way they want to go, so trying to bring
it a little bit more size both outside and interior.

Cooper Makma is the left tackle six two two thirty
and junior left guard is Cooper not he's a senior
sixty one two twenty five. Alex Topolinski junior center number
sixty six, Josia Williamson and then Nick Potter round out
your front five handoff Skydeman stacked up by the Husky
defense at time drop for no gain right back at
the thirty eight yard line, So third and short coming up.

They had to replace all five offensive line starters at
a great senior class from a year ago that Josh
Lucas had to work with in year one, So that
was a big concern. But happy the way they played
obviously in that victory last week.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
And they'll do a little bit of both.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
You'll see them with the three wide receiver set, maybe
throw a fourth in there, like we said, to go
empty backfield, and then Ryot Skideman and a very capable
quarterback in Felgner. If he gets outside third and short,
they'll shift two guys over from the left side to
the right side short side of the field from the
right hash short slot.

That way, handoff, Skideran's got.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
The lead blockers and he's got a first down up defended.
As he crossed the forty three dives forward to the
forty five. That'll be enough for a first down gain
of seven. Moved the chains first in ten six fifty
three left to go, opening quarter Jennison on the move here,
pushing towards the midfield stripe.

Well, they judge the lineup power, they shift over and
just outnumber the Huskies at the point of attack.

the cornerback spot because there wasn't a lot of help
coming in from the secondary, and Purchase made a nice tackle.

Four down lineup for the Husky showing a little blitz
here as the linebackers encroaching hand off left side from
right to left, pushing his way out to the midfield stripe,
skytaim in again, gain of five. He'll be a workhorse
with the carries mentioned rush for over one hundred yards
last week, second down and five right at the midfield stripe.

And they're doing it against really the strength of the
defense for the Huskies, a defensive line Eli McCully, a
senior four year varsity starter, Levi Silvernail goes both ways,
Brandon Armor and also Kyle Saint John up front.

Yeah, and they're starting to cycle already. Like I said,
guys in there to get rotated, one.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Wide receiver each way, handoff scot him and trying to
get the edge, turns the corner, stealing his feet, pushing
the pile close to that first down marker. He's into
Husky territory, but he's short by about a yard and
a half.

just on the right side of the forty five as

coach Sadie Astepo and his defensive staff, I'm thinking, okay,
they're probably not going to run exactly where they just
took out Potter.

The backfield now, one each side of Feldner takes the
snap out of the short shotgun handoff Scotiman from right
to left, and he's got the first down again. Good
job of that offensive line with those new starters, and
they're plowing his way inside the husky forty five to
the forty four.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
Well, if you're northern, you just got to find a
way to get a stop. I mean, they get this
kind of nickel and dimdie all the way down the field.
Hasn't been any explosive plays. The biggest gain in the
drive is so far as seventy are but they're just
keeping the pace moving forward. So if you're Northern, you
got to find a way to get a negative play
or blow something up in the backfield.

Max McKinney, the senior wide right, they're gonna swing it
out in the flats and trying to make a man miss.
Great open field tackle was Chatfield working against defensively that time,
Cage Bush, the sophomore defensive back, and Bush had none
of it, drops him for a loss of four and
that's back.

That's a great effort there by Bush because if he
doesn't make the tackle, the next volunteer was a waves
down field. So that's a good job there by Cage
to keep him in front of him. Makes a good
open field tackle, and there's the negative play that I
was talking about. It wasn't set up for that, but
they make a nice play. Now it's a loss of
four and it sets him for second long Bush.

Jason Scruggs, Eli Woolery, Jack Edwards, and Joe Purchase your
defensive secondary in there for FHN.

And what this also does is it kind of takes
guy had been a little bit out of play here
second and fourteen, probably think, oh, they're going to have
to air it out a little bit at least try
to get to the perimeter.

That's Chatfield wanting to throw incomplete and he was under

Well, Silvernail linds up at defensive end and Feldner's like, okay,
who's supposed to block that guy because he came in
full sprint and just put me on my can. And
it wasn't a great throw because Feldner had to get
rid of the football so early when the receiver hadn't
even turned around yet by the time he released the ball.
So good job there for the Huskies. They get aggressive.

Silvernail makes them throw the ball early. Now it's third
and fourteen, a very long down in distance for Jennison.

Faugner again, two backs to back vill lot, some movement
handoff scut him and they got away with it over
the right side, gets to the forty five of the
Huskies close to the original line of scrimmage whether they
lost yardage, and he's gonna be to the forty four.

So fourth in ten now, but in Husky territory, let's
see what Josh Lucas and Walkcats do. It looks like
with the wholesale substitutions, they might punt this one away
and play field position.

Yeah, I think he'd probably have to do that here
because even though Northern did get out, I mean, the
Genisen defense played really well that last series. So if
I'm Josh Lucas, I'm comfortable kicking the ball away here
and making the Huskies go the distance.

Cage bush back deep from the defensive secondary. Chatfield is
a very good field goal kicker back to punting away
to his own forty two, takes a snap, kicks it away,
angling towards the far sideline, wobbly spiral, hits inside the fifteen,
and like a web shot, just kind of rolls dead
inside the ten at the eight yard line.

No return pinning the Huskies for their second offensive possession

Well, Coach Ostopose rules always you get to the eight
yard line. If it goes over your head, then you
don't catch it. That one a little bit shorter of
that mark, but it was such a high kick and
it wasn't a really long kick, so the coverage was
down there. You have to let that bounce and they
get a good one that sets him inside the ten
to Husky, He's got a long way to go to
get the pay dirt here.

That's just a simple mesh action and they get the
linebacker to commit down words and he just reads that
takes it right over the left guard's hip, makes a
nice run.

That's what they needed to get out from that hole,
get out of the shadow of their own goal posts,
and a get.

This is I feel like field position would be very
critical getting this game. Perhaps we're seeing right now that
that's a big game for them, not only to get
some momentum going, but to get them out of their
own end.

Well he got right up and he's like, no, I'm fine,
and well, no, we already blew the whistle, so you
got to go out for a play. And so they'll
reset here and it's probably a break for Jennison really
because they're reeling after those two big runs by Ostapop.

Trying to get to one and one.

Felt they should have won the game last week, but
now puts added pressure on trying to win here at
home against a very good Genison club. First down in
ten handoff Sawyer coming near side makes a man miss.
Nice cut cross the midfield strife. That's Colton Sawyer into
wildcast territory inside the forty five. He's got a first
down out of the Jennison forty three yard line. And

I think they need a little more balanced. I think
Edding his staff would agree. All the carries last week,
Owen is fantastic, bit Sawyer is a great combination with him.

Well, they tried to go tempo here and that didn't
go as a planned as there's a little early movement.
But you're right, Beret, they needed to go a little
more balanced. Sawyer getting the carry there, and it does
exactly what I love. I know you're a Lions guy
and a Barry Saners guy. But the guy that did
it before in Walter Payton, he loved to get the
outside and then put the outside foot down and go

That's what Sawyer does there.

He gets out to the numbers, puts that right foot
down and cuts back and makes a really nice move
and gets back inside for a good game at twelve.

He's put together yep, just like Scott Himan on the

guy that's left. Instead goes up inside, takes to cut
the linebacker off and Eui Woolery is able to make

There trips left side, they faked a skyamin pop pass
on the slant incomplete good coverage there. Defensively for Forest
Hills Northern on the stop is Joe purchased the junior

Just an impressive night, and he should probably go out
and get the offensive lines and stakes or burgers or
whatever they like, because they did a heck of a
job up there too. I mean he yeah, he did
improvise a little bit, but he had some pretty big
running lanes, especially early in the game, and just a
really good job for Jennison upfront. And that's I think
a testament to the coaching because they replaced pretty much

their entire offensive line from last year, and that was
the big question mark for coach Josh Lucas and his
staff was how was this new offensive line gonna look?

Well, Tonight looked pretty darn good and last week they
did too.

bit there on offense and special teams. But number six,
the sophomore Cage Bush, he's got a bright future for
Eddie Astapo and the Huskies. He's Tonight's Montel Construction defensive
player of the game, and that leads us to our
Garrett's dependable player of the game and Buck, I like
what you said here. We talked about this kind of

during the break doesn't so often go in the way
of a special teams player, even a kicker. But we're
gonna go with number four tonight, that junior Cohen chatfield
kicker and punter for Jennison, and he was a factor
on special teams tonight also had that field goal.

Yeah, and he did a really nice job of suffocating
the Forest Hills Northern kick return team and they had
that big return that set up their only score of
the night with scrugs and after that he was just
content with placing the ball inside the numbers on one
side or the other and then really letting that coverage
team go to work. So not only was Forest Hills

Northern in for it because they were having a tough
time getting off the field, but then on the kickoffs
they weren't getting much traction either because of the excellent
kicking by Chatfield. He only had the one extra point
miss and that was a block, so we really can't
put that on him because that's not really his fault there,
and so a really nice job by Chatfield and coach
Lucas mentioned him and his kicking in this week's notes,

and boy he was there to deliver it tonight. So
very dependable and you can count on him and jam
and Chatfield the Garrett's dependable Garretts appliants, dependable player of
