SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
So this is the first time I've been able to beat my
sugar addiction and I feel likeI'm winning and I have control.
So powerful.
Oh my gosh.
It makes me feel like God ishealing me.
It makes me feel like thisprogram is gonna be my lifetime
focus now.
You know, this is a program Ican live with the rest of my

(00:22):
life.

SPEAKER_00 (00:23):
Well, welcome back to the Fast of Faith podcast.
I am really just my heart isswelling for this conversation
because this coach is near anddear to my heart.
She came to us um at a timewhere she really needed us.
And I just love to see how herlife and her perspective has

(00:46):
shifted and how she really hasblossomed in this season of her
life.
So welcome, Beverly.
How are you?
I'm fine.
How are you?
I am just thrilled to have youhere and thank you for taking
the time out.
You're living in a camper rightnow.
So like I just love thatattitude.

(01:08):
Like, I'm gonna figure it out.
I'm gonna do it however I can.
So thank you for showing up andbeing you.
Let's dive in.
Let's talk about how did youeven find me?

SPEAKER_01 (01:21):
You were part of the Kick Sugar Summit, and I
listened to that every yearbecause I was the closet sugar
addict and I really wanted tobeat it.
And you spoke, and somethinginside me just clicked, and I'm
like, this is the person I needto follow.
This is the program I need todo.
She is going to heal me.

(01:41):
And so I was so excited.
As soon as you finishedspeaking, I ordered your book.
Two-day Amazon shipping.
I was getting ready to leave ona trip and I was afraid the book
wouldn't make it.
So I downloaded it from Audibleimmediately and started
listening to you.
So when as I listened to thebook, something just clicked.

(02:03):
You were bringing God, my faith, and my food all together as one.
And that's exactly what Ineeded.

SPEAKER_00 (02:12):
Oh my goodness.
What had you done in the pastthat didn't work?

SPEAKER_01 (02:18):
Oh, Dr.
Tabitha, I have read everynutritional book.
I have tried every diet, andthey would all work.
Um, when I was 20 years old, wemoved to Virginia from West
Virginia.
Um, and I gained 65 pounds overtwo years.
And it took me a long time tolose it.
And I would do programs for awhile.

(02:39):
I did Suzanne Summers and I had,you know, success with that.
But then after a while, my sugaraddiction would take over, and I
didn't gain all the weight back, but I gained a little.
I did Weight Watchers, I failedmiserably at Weight Watchers.
I've done whole 30 and I wasable to do that for a while and
lost some weight, but my sugaraddiction would kick back in

(03:02):
again.
So this is the first time I'vebeen able to beat my sugar
addiction, and I feel like I'mwinning and I have control.

SPEAKER_00 (03:12):
That is so powerful.
Oh my gosh.
And I know how that feelsbecause I too was a sugar addict
and a gluten addict, and it justkind of runs your life.
It's like in the background ofyour brain all the time.
You're just thinking about it.
And for me, like the donutswould talk to me from the break
room.

(03:32):
Tell me what your struggle feltlike.
What how did you know you had asugar addiction?

SPEAKER_01 (03:39):
Because I couldn't go a day without something
sweet.
Like I would say, I'm gonna wakeup the next morning and I'm as
well start whole 30 again.
And I wouldn't make it tilllunchtime, and I'd have and I
wouldn't eat a lot of sugar atone time, but I would have to
have little tiny hits of sugarthroughout the day to make it
through the day.
And I thought this is a problem.

(03:59):
You know, I'm 62 years old, Ishould be able to handle this
problem, but you know, and everytime I would drive into town,
I'd be like, well, I'm gonna gothrough the Chick-fil-A
drive-through and get a Dr.
Pepper.
You know, that was my that wasmy addiction of choice.
And I didn't gain a lot ofweight, but I didn't feel good,
and I just felt like I I wasfailing, you know, and I

(04:21):
couldn't get the scale to go oneway or the other, and so it was
just it was just getting to betoo much.

SPEAKER_00 (04:29):
My goodness.
Okay, so you start listening tothe book and you start reading
the book.
What was different?
What was clicking for you?
You you mentioned like bringingGod into the conversation.

SPEAKER_01 (04:42):
Well, one thing that really clicked for me was um in
2023, I had a root canal thathad got infected, and I had
taken six rounds of antibioticsbetween the dentist trying to
figure out what was wrong, anduh the biological dentist
finally pulling the tooth andputting an implant in and having
to eat soft foods for ninemonths, my gut never recovered.

(05:06):
So when you started talkingabout, you know, leaky gut and
your biome, I thought that thatclicked.
I'm like, okay, God, this iswhat you want me to do.
This is going to heal me, and itis.

SPEAKER_00 (05:19):
Oh my gosh, that's so awesome.
And you have mentioned, like, you read the book how many
times, and you kept skipping thesupplements section talking
about that.
I I just it cracks me up.

SPEAKER_01 (05:33):
Well, the first, yeah, the first two times I read
the book, when it would get tosupplements, I'm like, I take
vitamins, I don't need that.
And I would kind of flip throughit.
And I would take, I was takingDHEA, I was taking magnesium, I
was taking vitamin D.
I mean, that's all I was taking,but I thought, I just, I just
don't need that.
But then when I joined thecoaching academy and the

(05:55):
Healthier Her program andstarted actually doing the
program, I saw the power of thesupplements, how that started
healing me, how my sugaraddictions became in check.
You know, that I just learnedthat the supplements were the
key to my healing.
So I'm sorry I skipped that thefirst tea time.

SPEAKER_00 (06:17):
Well, I love that God put it on your heart to keep
reading again.
And like, I think we just keepgetting those little nudges
until we do what we're supposedto do, right?
Yeah.
Oh my gosh, I love that so much.
So we we healed your gut.
You finally started feeling likeyou were breaking up with sugar.

(06:40):
Tell me about the during thesummer.
You had a party, and I think youhad a good realization of your
shift, didn't you?

SPEAKER_01 (06:49):
I did.
This summer I I host my brotherand his entire family, they have
a big family, uh, for a weekevery summer, and I had 18 house
guests.
And they're they're most of themare like in their 30s, having
babies, and so they still eatjunk food.
And so they brought in theDoritos and the Soda Pop and the

(07:09):
cupcakes and the candies, and wehad this big table set up in my
dining room, and it was justfull of all these snacks.
And after they left, I realizedI had not drank any soda pop.
And you know, one night I didput a cupcake on my plate, and I
was gonna eat it because it washomemade, someone had brought it

(07:30):
in, and I started to eat it, andmy husband had to finish it.
I could not even finish it.
How come?
Because I just couldn't handlethe sugar, it was just too
sweet.
It was actually kind of makingme sick, and then and then later
on in the summer, I um had anice cream can like I'm just
gonna have some ice cream.
I haven't had any all summer, and I started to eat it, and I

(07:52):
didn't even get a third of theway through it, and I threw it
in the trash can.
So that was to me, that wasvictory.

SPEAKER_00 (08:00):
That is incredible, and uh it's so mind-blowing.
So, I mean, I've lived throughit, I've watched countless women
experience it, but it's likewhen you are addicted to sugar,
stuff doesn't even taste thatsweet.
It's like I just I need that, Igotta have it, and then when you
really aren't eating it on aregular basis and you try and

(08:22):
bring it in, you're like, thatis so sweet.
I only need a couple bites.
Isn't that crazy how differentit is?

SPEAKER_01 (08:30):
Yes, but I love it.
It just makes me feel powerful,it makes me feel like God is
healing me, it makes me feellike this program is gonna be my
lifetime focus now.
You know, this is a program Ican live with the rest of my
life, and that is such awonderful feeling.
I love that.

SPEAKER_00 (08:49):
Yeah, tell me more about physically how you're
feeling.
So all of a sudden, sugar's alittle sweeter.
How are you feeling andfunctioning in your body overall
with you know less inflammationand all that gut stuff gone?

SPEAKER_01 (09:04):
Well, I feel like I have a second gear in the
afternoon.
In the afternoon, usually Iwould start to get tired, and by
evening I would be shot.
And now I just have a whole newgear in the afternoon, and in
the evenings I can get out andwalk.
I'm sleeping well, you know, food is not upsetting my gut.
So, yes, I am on the road tohealing.

SPEAKER_00 (09:26):
Oh, I love how you said that.
I have a new gear, like shiftedinto another gear for the
afternoon.
Oh, I love that.
Okay, so it really sounds likeit has made just such an impact
on your health and overall.
How has it impacted your life?

SPEAKER_01 (09:45):
I'm more confident.
Um, the biggest thing is, youknow, I've been in church all my
life, and I have never meditatedon the word before.
That's something new you broughtto me.
I would read, but I would neverjust meditate and journal.
And that has been life-changing.
And now I really look forward tothose times where you just sit

(10:07):
and read and journal, and thathas made a big impact.
I think I make better decisions,I think it's easier to stay on
the program, and I think it'seasier to share your faith in
what you're doing because yousee how it's making a
difference.

SPEAKER_00 (10:25):
Yeah, absolutely.
I I mean, I was raised in thechurch as well, and to me, the
Bible was just something thatgot read to me at church, you
know, or you would follow alongin church.
Um, but outside in daily life, like I didn't open my Bible, it
wasn't a part of my everydaylife, and I really think that it

(10:52):
is so magical.
It is the living, nourishing, active word of God, and it helps
us talk to him and have arelationship with him and to
hear from him.
I hear so many women say, Idon't hear from God, you know,
so he must not want to talk tome.
And I think we just need tolearn how to actually meditate

(11:14):
on his word and get still.
And I love that you are doingthat in the mornings now with
Lectio Divina, this meditatingon scripture.
And once you get into it, howlong did it take for you to feel
like I need that in themornings?
I want that in the morningsbecause I know at first it's
kind of challenging to sit down, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01 (11:37):
It was it did at first, and sometimes if I do
miss it in the morning, I do itat night, but I get it in.
Um, but yeah, the mornings Ilook forward to that.
It it didn't take very long, itreally didn't.
At first, I went through the 40days with you reading it to us,
but then one day in the coachingacademy class, you said to us um

(11:58):
that God had told you you readit.
You know, I've done a millionBible studies, and I just
something clicked, and he he'sliterally taking me through the
Bible reading.
And I read a chapter and I pickverses and I write.
I have a journaling Bible, so Ican write right in my Bible, and
that has been really goodbecause now I'm going back and

(12:21):
looking and I can see patterns, you know.
So, yeah, I've really enjoyedit, it's been life-changing.

SPEAKER_00 (12:29):
Absolutely, and there really is no right way to
read the Bible, you know.
I think it can be reallyintimidating.
I was intimidated because I wasalways told, like, you're
supposed to read it in one yearfrom cover to cover, and you
know, the Bible isn't written ina straightforward timeline

(12:50):
either, so it it's all over theplace.
But I've really gotten into apattern of like when I hear
something in my daily life, someone quotes a scripture or a
sermon talks about it.
Like, I go and I read about thatand I dive into that, and then
it references something else, and then I go and I study and
read that.

(13:11):
And to me, that has made itreally enjoyable because it's
kind of like I'm just um I'mcurious, I'm like inquisitive
and I'm checking it out.
So I love that you're kind ofdoing the same thing.
There's no rhyme or reason, it'slike wherever God's taking you,
and and that's okay.

(13:31):
And sometimes I'll underlinethings and I realize, oh my
gosh, I've read that, but forsome reason I'm reading it for
like the first time.
I I don't recognize it or I hearit in a whole new way.
Does that happen to you?
Yes, yeah, so I've that's whyit's just so alive, and you

(13:52):
know, they say that in the Biblethat it is an alive word, so
that can be super powerful.
Okay, I love that.
How has God shown up for you inyour life in a different way?
Or are you just are you noticingGod more?
Tell me about your relationshipwith him.

SPEAKER_01 (14:14):
Well, I feel like he brought me to this program
because I he's probably tired oflistening to me.
Can you please help me?
Can you please heal me?
Can you and then all of a suddenhere you are?
And I'm in the coaching academy, and I went through that academy,
but I just feel like he it'salmost like he pointed me to
this program, he's healing me,he has me back in the word, and

(14:37):
yes, I am noticing him more.

SPEAKER_00 (14:40):
That's so good.
Um, and are you comfortablesharing with what you're dealing
right now with your parents?

SPEAKER_01 (14:48):
Sure.
My dad is in um the final stagesof dementia Alzheimer's, and um
we live about three weeks out ofthe month here in our camper in
West Virginia and helping carefor him.
And he still knows me.
You know, he can't stand or walkwithout assistance.
And my mom, who's 84, is tryingto be the caretaker, and that's

(15:11):
she just can't do it.
So I retired from my job early, and we just decided to get a
camper and move up here.
So we've been doing this for acouple of years, but this summer
he has really progressed.
So yeah.
But God is walking us gracefullythrough that too.
You know, He is.

SPEAKER_00 (15:30):
Yeah, absolutely.
I think that this was theperfect time for Fastid Faith to
come into your life because Ican't imagine handling all of
that without a strong faith, without a strong relationship
with God, you know.

SPEAKER_01 (15:47):
Well, this program is all about support.
And the ladies in the coachingacademy, even though I don't
talk about this a lot, um, theyI feel their support, you know.
These are ladies of faith, andthey say wonderful prayers.
And if like I needed them, all Iwould have to do is get into the
sisterhood, type out what Ineeded, and I know they would

(16:10):
come to my rescue in prayer.
And I just feel so supported, and the program is wonderful,
and it's so exciting to be apart of something that's bigger
than me.
I feel like God has allowed meto join you in this important
work, and I just feel so blessedto be a part of it, and it's

(16:31):
something positive for me tofocus on, and that has really,
really helped me.

SPEAKER_00 (16:36):
Oh my gosh, you're giving me goosebumps, Beverly.
That's so good.
Yes, I think we are all here tolive a life bigger than
ourselves.
We are here to serve others, andI I think the most powerful way
to do that is in a community.
And honestly, so many peoplethey have church hurt or they

(17:00):
have been betrayed by peopleclose to them.
And I would just say, like, youshould always continue to begin
again, look for a new group.
I what I love about our Fast ofFaith Sisterhood is like it's a
judgment-free zone, and there'sno competition, even though

(17:20):
you're all coaches and you'reyou know helping other women,
you're collaborating, you're notin competition, you're lifting
each other up, and like, hey,how can you help me with this?
And how can I help you withthat?
And like, I just don't see thatanywhere else.
And you know, I I wish I couldtake credit, but like God has

(17:42):
done such incredible things,He's just bringing the right
women into our community, andyou are just such a shining
example of it.
I like want everyone to knowyou.
Oh yeah, you're so brave, you'reso courageous, and you're
persistent and tenacious.

(18:04):
Like, uh tell us again how youngyou are.
Oh, I'm I'm 62 years young.
62.
Yes, like unfortunately, a lotof women just give up, you know.
They're like, Well, I guess thisis just my lot in life.
Uh, this is my addiction, thisis how it is.
And you're like, no, I'm notgiving up.

(18:25):
I know God has better for me.
So I know that you've inspiredsomebody today because they're
like, wait, I'm not, you know,in my 30s or 40s anymore, but I
can still do this.
Like, yes, absolutely.

SPEAKER_01 (18:42):
Oh, well, you can feel this good at 62.
You can feel this good.

SPEAKER_00 (18:47):
Yeah, absolutely.
I love that so much.
Well, Beverly, end us with amessage for the women that are
listening.
Because there are some womenwho, you know, they've found me
one way or another, but they'rejust not sure.
Is this the answer to myprayers?
Is this what I'm supposed to behearing?
And just help reassure them thatthey're on the right path.

(19:12):
And what is your message forthem?

SPEAKER_01 (19:15):
My message would be you can get your health back,
you can get closer to God.
He wants you to have a life ofabundance and join the
sisterhood because there isnothing but love and support
here.
So come join us, be a part.
We are here for you, and we loveyou.

SPEAKER_00 (19:35):
Oh, I love that so much.
Yes, we are called to beChrist's hands to serve, we are
called to live in community andlift each other up.
And sometimes it's challenging, but it's so worth it.
And I love seeing you on theother side of all of your
struggles.
It's so good.

(19:55):
And we are continuing to be withyou as you navigate this time
with your dad.
You're just you're just anamazing woman.
So thank you for sharing yourstory with us this morning.

SPEAKER_01 (20:09):
You're welcome.
This is a wonderful program.
This is a wonderful place to be.

SPEAKER_00 (20:55):
Oh my gosh.
Right?
Like, that's truly what it is.
You just got to get into someforward action.
So, like you said, like joiningthe sisterhood or doing a gut
healing program or becoming acertified coach, like whatever
that next step is.
So, we are here for you, ladies.

(21:15):
I know that Beverly's storytouched you in some way.
I hope you got some good goldennuggets out of that.
But continue to seek God andjust ask him.
And, you know, you mentionedearlier, you used to beg and
pray like God heal me, God helpme.
And I would invite anybody who'slistening, let's get out of that

(21:40):
begging prayer mindset because Iwas there for too long as well.
I prayed like that for 45 years, and then I realized like we have
so much power.
God gives us power andauthority, it's all throughout
the Bible.
So we just have to say, I'mready to receive God.
What do you have for me?

(22:00):
Show me your will for me, giveme the desires that you have for
me, and He will just start likeshowing up.
So I would really encourage youto trust Romans 8 28.
God is creating everything foryour good, no matter what
crooked paths are happening,He's trying to make them

(22:23):
straight.
Just if you can trust, yes, God,I don't understand it, but it's
all for your good, then you aregonna have a breakthrough.
So thank you for staying withus, ladies.
I love you so much.
We are here to support you, andthank you, Beverly.
Thank you.
See you ladies next week.
