(00:00):
If your life feels stuck, your soul might be dry ground.
Hey guys, welcome back. It's Alec.
This is Father like the Father. And this is our new miniseries,
Cultivating the Ground. Today we're digging into one of
the most well known teachings from Jesus, the parable of the
sower. And I want to start with a
question, What kind of soil are you giving God to work with?
Because if the Word of God is the seed, your heart is the

(00:21):
ground. The kind of dad that you are
today is being shaped by the kind of ground that you're
planting in. In Matthew 13, three through 8
and 18 through 23, Jesus talks about the seed falling on
different types of ground. Hard path hockey soil, horny
ground, and good soil. Jesus didn't say some people
don't get the seed, they just don't know how to receive it.

(00:42):
And I think that's the picture of fatherhood.
We hear the truth, we want to grow, but then we wonder to
ourselves, you know, why do I feel stuck?
Why do I keep failing to be the dad I want to be?
And here's why you're planning truth in the ground that's still
too hard, too shallow to choke by weeds to grow anything
healthy. And listen, I've been there too.
There's seasons where I'm going through praying, reading

(01:04):
scripture, trying to be present, but nothing was taking root.
And that's when I realized I'm doing everything right on the
outside. But on the inside, my heart is
was hardened by exhaustion, by shame, feeling like I didn't
measure out. And I've talked about here
before just how, you know, I wassnapping at my kids forever,
little things, not doing the dishes, just leaving toys out,

(01:26):
just making loud noises. And that's not who I wanted to
be. And no matter how much I would
pray for patience, I just kept failing.
And that's kind of when things kind of hit me.
God's not ignoring me. I'm just trying to plant seeds
and ground that hasn't been broken yet.
So that kind of pushed us into the challenge this week.
I want you to take a few minutesthis week in your journal.

(01:48):
I want you to write down God, What kind of ground am I giving
you? And just think, just listen to
what he says to you and just letHim show you that your hearts
been hardened, distracted, shallow, and write what you
think you're hearing from God. Ask Him to soften the ground
because your family needs fruit and it starts with good soil.

(02:10):
