Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to your diary episode.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
I'm a bit of a nomad, so these episodes come
to from wherever I'm living or traveling to at the time,
so I'll share with you what's going on in my world,
from book tours, animal encounters, delish meals, nature adventures, health
discoveries to swimming in hidden Byron Bay beaches. Come with
(00:25):
me as I share my adventures with you.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Hello.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
So this is a Bangalow diary for the Americans listening
to this. Bangalow is a hinterland town in the northern
Rivers of New South Wales, so really close to Byron Bay,
like a twenty minute drive fifteen to twenty minute drive
from Byron Bay, which is a famous like surf hippie
(00:51):
town that the Boss and I love, and we have
lived here on and off over the past five years.
Like when I started spending half of my time in America,
Boss would be in Byron and we've lived in different areas.
We've lived in Bangalore, which is where we are now.
We're staying with our mates and it's so nice to
be back here. That air it's like a really humid
(01:15):
rainforest kind of vibe. So the air just feels really
like balmy, and there's always wildlife. I've seen cooker burrows,
I've seen bats, keep looking out for snakes. Haven't seen
a snake yet, hopefully.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
I will. And just kind of been soaking up.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
All the nature and morning walks and just trying to
like soak up all of the magic that Bangalow has
to offer. And because we used to live here, it's
really nice to come back and it's got a real
villagey kind of feel. So that is what we've been doing.
On Monday, we flew in and so we had been
spending time in Malbs. Dad picked us up from that
(01:56):
hotel stay I did at the Motley Hotel in Richmond,
which we love, and then Dad was we didn't have
a flight till the afternoon, so Dad's like, let's go
for lunch, and he took us to this place called Convoy,
which is the same owners as Terror Twilight, which we love,
and both Dad and I got these gluten free sweet
potato pancakes so good and they just were like the
(02:22):
most delicious thing around they had. They were cinnamon skroll
flavor and they had a crumb on them and delish.
Highly recommend if you're in Melbourne, go to Convoy and
get them. And then Terror Twilight has the same gluten
free sweet potato pancakes but a black forest situation.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
So good.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
So then from there we went home did a mad
dash packed, which is what I'm about to do now.
We're about to do a mad dash pack because we're
moving from our mate's place in Bangalow to an Airbnb tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
The sabo should I say? So?
Speaker 1 (02:54):
That's really exciting. I'm looking forward to yeah, oh why
can hear dog go? I'm looking forward to our little
We've booked a little rainforest stayed there, which is going
to be really really nice. But here's some of the
cool stuff we've done in Bangalow our full disclosure, our
mate's own woods a cafe in Bangalow, a good mate
(03:16):
Salmon Andy and it is The food is so delicious.
It's the first place we went when we landed from
La Like, it's that good.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
It's so yummy.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I swear by their banana bread. It's gluten free, vegan,
dairy free, and they do this like whipped maple vegan
butter on top with like a macadamia crumb and berry
like a blueberry is a compost that we say like
a cookedown berry mixture. And then we tried for the
first time this gluten free carrot cake, so yummy.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
What else did we get?
Speaker 1 (03:50):
I got this new thing that's going to be launching
on the menu soon, which is a Mexican shoshushka, which
is where the eggs approached in the like sauciness. And
it was all like it can bean, so yummy. Dirlish
ten out of ten loved it.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
And what did Boss get?
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I'm trying to think, Oh, he always gets a little
egg and bacon brecky rolls.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
And what else have we had from there? We've been
there a couple of times.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
This morning the boys got their famous it's like a
cheese scne with veggiemit, which is very Australian to my
American friends. Veggiemite is like this yeasty spread, but it's
got quite a pungent, strong flavor. But ossies are mad
for it. I quite like veggiemite. I just haven't had
it in ages. And so they got this like cheesy
scrum with butter and veggiemite.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Look really good.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
And I've been gieing my long blacks. The best coffee
in the world. So yummy, so good. And then we've
also been going to Touch Shop, so it was the
first time we actually went to tuch Shop, which is
there another place that they own. It's more restaurant vibes.
It is open during the days I think Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
or maybe Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays for lunches and so, but
(05:00):
we've been for the last two nights for dinner. So
Tuesday night is cheap Tuesday and you can get like
yummy fried chicken and what.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Else did we get? We got tacos, which was really nice.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
And then last night we did it was their past
tonight and I had this beautiful beef risotto.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Boss got a really yummy.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Fish dish and Andy got a passa dish.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Really really yummy, really really good.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
And then tomorrow I've got a really big pod with
an American guest first thing in the morning, and I
have just received their book manuscripts, So I'm going to
literally now have to just like pack up myself and
bunker down and prep for this podcast literally all day long,
because it's a final mad dash. I've got to somehow
(05:49):
read two manuscripts in the next six hours. So I've
got some speed reading ahead of me, but the guest
is really big and I couldn't say no. And as
you know, anyone that's this pot, I rarely record on
Zoom and this is going to be a Zoom recording
because they live in America, so that'll be really fun.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
But yeah, it's just going to be today, a lot
of knuckling down and getting the pod so ready for tomorrow.
And I've got another pod on Monday with a local
author here that I'm actually m seeing their book launch
in Byron Bay for the Monday night as well, so
that'll be really fun. So lots of stuff going on here.
Really keen to also like downregulate and just chill and
(06:30):
take it easy while we're in Byron as well, because
it is just such a beautiful place to be and
to ground and just like be in nature and all
the cool thing all that kind of like you know,
important stuff I think I would say, but that is me,
my friends.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
This is your Bangalow update.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
And if you are ever visiting Byron Bay, make sure
you get to Bangalow. It is such a beautiful hinterland
town and I love it and Boston. I literally we
had our little house we rented here for I want
to say, three years before we moved out of Bangers,
and we just, yeah, love it. The farmer's market, everything's amazing.
(07:15):
I'm really excited to go to the farmer's market tomorrow
after I record the pod. We're going to literally record,
have a coffee, record the pod, and then just like
jet straight to the farmer's market. I cannot wait. It's
my favorite farmer's market in all of the Northern Rivers.
It's the mull and Bimbie Friday morning farmer's market, and
I have dreamt about it since we moved to La
(07:36):
So I am just going to get all my favorite
things and just have a few days of just like
real retreat vibes at home and eating really clean and
feeling really good. And yeah, I'm really looking forward to
this little staycation vacation thing because this is the end
of our trip now, and soon it's time to head
(07:58):
back to Beautiful Angeles. I've got some really exciting things
on their horizon there, so I'm just so pumped to
get back to Los Angeles and get into it. But
I also am really looking forward to this kind of
like down regulating time and chill time, and just the
importance of like going back to la really recharged and
(08:21):
really excited because Melbourne and Sydney was like go, go go,
we really didn't stop, whereas here, I know we can
kind of like slow a little bit, being nature, swim
in the ocean, feel really calm.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
And content and you know all those things. Anyway, that
is me, my friends.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
I'm looking at two three big suitcases here. I'm about
to pack and get ready for the next Airbnb location,
which will be Noise if you have anywhere you want
me to try or anything like that. And Byron, we're
here for a fair bit longer, so looking forward to
soaking all of it up. And your next diary episode
will be a Byron Diary. Today it's Bangalore in the
(09:01):
hinterland of the Northern Rivers, and next week will be
a Byron Diary. And I've got a fun influencer stay
coming up as well in Byron, but I think that
won't happen next week that I have in the week after,
I believe.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
So that's exciting.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
So lots lots of fun stuff to soak up. I
am Also, I don't know about you, because we've been
moving around so much and doing like two nights here,
three nights there. I'm just so excited a ground and
like actually unpack my suitcase because we've been living out
of a suitcase for nearly a month now, So Pump
to just like fully unpack at this next airbnb because
(09:40):
we're there for a while. All right, Mega love, my friends,
go do that stuff you love. I'm going to get
into podprep and pack in these suit suitcases, all right.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Hooru Big Love by
