Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to fearlessly Failing hot Seat. In this EPP, I
fire rapid questions at one of our fearlessly failing guests.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
PS. I'm gonna be honest with you.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm not so good at the rapid part. I get
too intrigued by the awesome answers. Now a new EPP
is going to drop every Wednesday, so enjoy this shorter
style episode of fearlessly Failing hot Seat. Welcome back to
the hot Seat. Matt Sofo aka my BF aka the

(00:38):
Boss aka brand new MacBook Pro owner, your current boyfriend. Yeah,
that's how we did love that TikTok friend. Yes, I
just realized they're doing jack hammering outside. It might come through. No,
that's fine, okay, So we thought the pods turned six
years old. Actually is it in Australia? Today is the

(00:59):
actual birthday of the pot which are happy birth Happy birthday.
So I thought I'd just ask six questions. You can
answer them, then I can answer them.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
How is it?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Perfectay? So four minutes done. Go question One biggest lesson
of this pod.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
It is far more work than you ever think to
make a podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
I tell most people that I coach. It's a full
time job.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, it is so much work, like all in all,
from booking guests to research to editing to post to promoting.
Its a twenty step process. Yeah that's yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
What about you?

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I would say it's like something like lessons from guests.
I learn, like there's a lot of people that have
kind of like shared their failure and their success, and
they you know, talk a lot about like going after
their dream and doing it for the passion, not for
the money, all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Like I think each guest gives me a different lesson.
Like the one that sticks in my mind from recently
is Candace Fox. I was like, what's your superpower? And
she's like, I'm brave. She's like, I can do the
scary thing. I just walked straight into it she knows.
And I was like, excuse me, I think I would
like that trait too.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, you're brave.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
I overthink though, But I did a lot of work
with my therapist yesterday around that.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yes, very good.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
We're evoking shark energy now, Oh we like that. He's like,
Shark's a cool Lola. They're not bad. He's like, they're cool.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Anyway, favorite episode and it can just be what I know.
There's literally this is episode seven hundred and forty nine,
so there's so many to pick from, but just one
that sticks out to you.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
You can't put me on the spot like that boss.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Just a fave guest or a fave one where you're like, actually,
like when I listened back to that, that really made
me happy.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah. I So like we mentioned Candice a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
I like Candae a lot one or two, probably the
second one because you're more familiar with each other.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
And but the first one.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
She had such brilliant stories about like Ted Bundy and
about like going to San Quentin prison admitting that crazy
the Toolbox kick Killer.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
And I like David Glaspie because I really liked his
book Detaming Toxic People.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, and he's also got no filter and he's very dry,
Like I remembered I said to him. I quoted him
in one of my books years ago, and I was like,
can I because he also writes about no sugar And
I was like, can I quote you in the book
And he goes, yeah, as long as you referenced me properly.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Yeah, I was like, no props.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Like he's very cool.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
You always know what you said lawyer though, isn't he.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Yeah, but you just know where you stand. And I
remember we were touring one day and someone because we
used tour together talking about health and wellness books all
over Australia with other health and wellness authors, and I
remember a different author said to me, I'd just gone
through a breakup. I was thirty. Yeah, And she's like,
why did you break up with that person? And I
was like, oh wow, our values were miss aligned. Yeah,

(04:01):
And David was on one side. I mean, this author
was on the other side of me. And she looked
at me and she goes, you learn to lower your standards.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, that's fun.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
And then she walked away and he goes, please don't
listen to her.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
You're fine.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, and look at you. You did do fine.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Ended that was someone with nice value system.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah. Also, I know you're talking about that person's nuts. Okay, yeah,
we won't. We won't. We won't divulge that mean, yes,
ok next question you didn't ask me, Oh yeah, your
favorite app?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
And yeah I was. I could have told you that
it was like.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
An episode that like if I think about it now,
like and the after of the episode, like it makes
me get it. You knows and tear up because he
was just so warm and giving and he was like,
you've got a spark, this pot is special, like keep going,
and I was like, oh my god, yeah, yeah, I
really really loved having him. Okay, go next question. It's
a hot seat boss. Yeah, but it's only six questions.

(04:55):
You've already one two of them, booth, have we six
questions six years?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Okay? Even moment of the pode.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Hmmm, I not specific moment, but I would say just
in general, I think it's cool that we get to
like go in the studio and record in the studio,
or I think I might have mentioned it on the
other one, Like the long form is like we've been
to like cool people's houses, and you know, I got

(05:25):
to experience a little bit of their life and see
a little bit behind the scenes.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
So I think that's a cool, cool moment. I love that.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah. Yeah, Like I think I said about collect Dinninggan's house,
like Barrel, we went to Jewels Sebastian's place, like they
have a beautiful hat, Like it was.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Kind of come to this moment, Damon Harryman. I went
to his place.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Oh yeah, cool he was.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
And the guest is so relaxed in their own place.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
So I think it's cooled about like those favorite moments
that I've come along for.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Yeah, do you feel like the pod is becoming all
pods are becoming more visual now though, Like, yeah, that
is kind of like part of it.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, but I also think that that's going to get
stale really quickly.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Oh you reckon, it's so audio first.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Yeah, I feel though that just like the same studio interviews,
same studio background, like every week, I think for me
would get boring.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Well, I love the idea. We're so spoilt here in LA,
like there are so many pod studios here.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
I like that you're kind of hopping around. Yeah, yeah,
I agree. I don't know if that's like cheeky of me.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
I think I think the only way that that format
has longevity and really interesting for a long time is
people that incorporate other things into like the podcast interview,
like your hot wings, like you know what I mean,
Like they're literally like eating and that British first Yeah,
and Amelia coming real last name but yeah, so but yes,

(06:56):
very very visual. But I think that the future needs
to you know, get more exciting.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Okay, that's fair. Yeah, in visuals. That's very fair.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah, I just booked a podcast last night, and she
really wants to do visual because she's a photographer and
we can actually talk about some of her prints. Yeah,
and like famous shots and I'm like, oh, of course
we've got to film that one. Yeah, yeah, of course,
so interesting. I would say one of my favorite moments.
You're not quite good boss at asking the question back
to me.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Okay, I hadn't finished speaking, but yeah, I was just ranting,
but I'm done. What's your favorite? I'm done, I'm done
at the end. That's so fa.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Also, he's gorgeous. He's sitting here in his little pink
boxer shorts.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Actually your shorts, to be honest.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Common the FedEx guy just saw me in my.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Pink literally pink Valentine's special boxer shorts that say love
all over them and have hearts all over them.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Yeah, exactly. Go what's your favorite moment?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I think it's still going to be an Owen teal
so I'd never met him before. It's also like, so
for those wondering who he is, he's off Game of Thrones.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
He is Lord Commander for the war or for the Watch.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Say when he stabs John SMI yeah, great voice, Welsh accent,
like beautiful voice. So I'd never met him, but basically
we were living in Byron Bay, like or it was
like a time when we're back. I was back in
Byron and I got invited. He was a lead in
a theater production of a Christmas Carol in Melbourne and
I got invited to the press day, like the premiere night,

(08:30):
and they were like, can you please come to the
premiere You need to get yourself here. Yeah, And I
was like, only if I could interview until on the
pod and they were like, haha, not gonna happen. He's
already fulfilled all of his media requirements. And I learned
that from being maxed with Anthony when he died death
of a salesman. They only have to do a certain
amount of media and then they're done that they doesn't

(08:52):
add on and so I was kind of prepared for that,
and I said, no problem, thank you so much for
getting back to me. I'm not going to fly down
my self down and put myself up just to go
to a Christmas carrier a premiere. I mean, I love Christmas,
so it's kind of like right up my Alley and
it's such a fun play as well, like, oh, it's

(09:12):
so good anyway, they wrote back about forty eight hours later,
and then like we've spoken to Owen he has said, yeah,
he's going to do it. So I flew down. My
dad and I both love Christmas and mince pies and
all those things. My mom loves Christmas to Actually we're
quite a Christmas y family. And I took Dad to

(09:32):
the premiere. We did the full red carpet together, and Dad,
being like a Melbourneite, there were so many My old
agent in Sydney used to call these malebrities, but there
were so many Melbourne celebrities there and like football players, athletes,
and Dad's like, oh that is a Woods from or
like whoever that is so and so from AFL, Like

(09:54):
he just knew all AFL football players.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
So funny.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Anyway, So we go to the play, have the best
time I'm ever, so incredible, great seats, so fun, do
a red carpet together, there's snow flying on the red
carpet and we have just the time of our lives,
just a father daughter date day kind of yeah. The
next day I meet so they the publicists didn't confirm

(10:18):
the interview time and place until the morning of the interview,
so it was quite scared, Like I was like, oh
my god, I've flown down and is it not going
to happen? So it's quite scary the lay up and
then ten am they confirmed it and I think I
had to be there by like one or two and
I had to rock up to he was staying in
these like apartments and I had to like service departments,

(10:41):
and I had to record it with him in the
restaurant part, and he was amazing. He walked in and
he was like, someone needs to cut the ac it's
going to affect her sound. He had his publicists with him.
You need to be really quiet if you're going to
be on your laptop like he was. He protected me anyway,
So that was probably one of my favorite experiences where

(11:03):
and obviously he told the funniest klonoscopy story as well,
Like it's one of the fact, my favorite moments of
the whole.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
People go back and listen. Next question, it's unreal.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Okay, hot tip for podcasts, there tip, I know mine.
Hot tip, that's a hard one. I think.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Reach out to people, ask questions, do a lot of research,
but also be prepared to do ninety nine percent of
it yourself.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Like charter is essentially yeah, can I give mine? I
would say, don't get complacent and over prepare because if
somebody throws you a curly on the spot, which can
happen for sure, if you've done so much research, there's
a good chance you're pretty ready for it. And even

(11:59):
if or not, it means you're going to be able
to navigate the back to where you need it to go.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
And so.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Rarely I don't think I'm sure it's happened, But rarely
has a guest said something that I wasn't prepared for,
or like told a story I was like, is that?
Usually I'll ask it. I'll be like, oh, can you
explain that to me? Because I know if I don't
know what they're saying, the listeners won't.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
I think, do your research, have all that shit in
the back of your brain, and then let it go
and then know that it's there, like if you actually
need to access it.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
It's like acting when I want do all the prep,
prep and then just stay present and in the moment,
what would you say has been a hurdle?

Speaker 3 (12:43):
I mean, to be honest, heaps of them, you know,
like getting that many guests over that many years.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Like that's a hurdle you always.

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Need to overcome, you know, not and not a bad one,
but it's something that needs to be navigated all the time.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Your constant, your own producer.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
So even last night, I had dinner with a friend
and I was like booking yeah pod guests in my head.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Yeah, with said friend.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
And then right after this, I'm running to be an
actress for a coffee. I'm essentially doing a pre interview
for Yeah and seeing if she's a good fit for
the pod.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Other hurdles, Yeah, to be honest, like, there is a
lot of back end involved, So you've got to get
real comfortable with with learning a lot of tech and
back end and all that kind of stuff. Like you
can't just expect that's what you do. Yeah, I know,
but like I literally learned how to do every step

(13:44):
for you, very very like. But I'm also like, I
don't know, I like doing that stuff, so I like
learning how to do something. Yeah. So yeah, like get
comfortable learning like audio editing and video editing and making
your own audio.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Do outsourced video editing now just for those files like the.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Big LA interviews.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yea, yeah, totally because I can't do it on capcut
because I was doing a lot of the video.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Yeah yeah, yeah for the small like those other ones,
they're also like filmed on like four K or whatever.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
And yeah, yeah, you know.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Anyway, final question, Ye, you've done six So this is
the sixth question. One bit of advice, which is similar
to hot tips.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
So you can one bit of advice. It just fucking start.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Really, I would say, have three six epps in the
can before.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
You no, Like, yes, that obviously that's a more specific thing.
But I think a lot of people are like, oh,
you know, I'll start a podcast when I'm when I'm
not so busy. I'll start a podcast when I'm a
little bit happier. I'll start a podcast when I'm a
little bit more financial stable. Fucking start it now. If

(14:57):
you can't afford the gear, start doing your research on
guests that you want, start talking to people, start doing
all the things that don't cost money yet. But if
you never start, you'll never do it, or if you
wait for the right moment to start, you would never
go do it.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
I love that, end the story. Oh I love that. Yes, you.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
Make sure your audio quality is really good, absolutely, Yeah,
because we were sticklers with that when Zoom came around. Yeah,
and the ones that don't that were recorded just like
randomly with the little Apple headphones into their lap shot.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
I don't go back and listen to those episodes, not
because I don't like the episode and the chat. It's
just harder for me to listen to. Yeah, make the
audio sound really, really good, and most pod managers will.
That'll be one of the first things I'll tell you
if you take a meeting with them.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Keep it good quality.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Don't get complacent, stay connected to your audience so you
know what your audience wants. Yeah, Like someone wrote to
me just yesterday going congrats on six years old. Her
name's Clem Love the Little Soul, and she goes your
LA Diaries have been like got me through, you know,
Like that felt really good to it, So I was like, great, Well,

(16:09):
the LA Diaries, I'm going to go anywhere with it,
you know what I mean. Like, I just think, connect
with the audience, know what they want. And remember you're
not just creating it for you, You're creating it for
other people too, So always come backing it.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
For your audience. It's not a self indulgent thing. You're
doing it. It feels good to create.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
I will be honest, but for me, it's like, how
can I help people? How can I empower them.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
To follow you. It's meant to feel good for you
to do it.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
It's meant to feel amazing, incredible, all those things, but
you are doing it in service of the listener.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Agreed you know.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Yeah, love you Booth. That was perfect, Love you. Thank
you for doing that in your Jimmys.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Can I have breakfast now?

Speaker 3 (16:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (16:49):
Thank you. Love you By
