Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to your diary episode. Here's the thing. I'm a
bit of a nomad, so these episodes come to from
wherever I'm living or traveling to at the time, so
I'll share with you what's going on in my world,
from book tours, animal encounters, delish meals, nature adventures, health
discoveries to swimming in Hidden Byron Bay Beaches. Come with
(00:25):
me as I share my adventures with you. Hello, fam
bam a Los Angeles diary for you today. So it's
just gonna be the week that was. So Monday's episode
of the Pod, we had this awesome Aussie actor Thomas
Cockrell on the Pod and he is on a show
(00:48):
right now with Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning. Dakota Fanning
plays his wife, and it is out in Australia. It's
on Binge if you're in America, Peacock and if you're
in the UK Sky. So anyway, I thought i'd just
say that because he is unreal, lovely, lovely human at
such a fun app It was quite a quick experience,
(01:12):
like I'd like to share a bit of the pod
bts with you, from booking to recording, I think it
was like a forty eight kind of hour window, which
is really normal when actors are coming through that don't
live in Los Angeles and the heat for press. So
he'd literally flown the day before in from doing the
press in New York to this pod in LA. And
(01:36):
I think he had one more day in LA or
maybe two, and then was back in Australia. So it
is so exciting when you get to interview like really
meaty actors like that that are just like in the
thick of it and working actors. So exciting and inspiring
to me. But I really had to like get my
(01:59):
skates on. I got sent the screener for the show
the night the day before, so the night before I
binged it and I think I think there's eight or
nine EPs, and I had one and a half EPs
to go by the time we chatted. So that happened
about a week ago today Friday, so it would have
happened tomorrow. Basically, I record this on a Thursday because
(02:21):
in LA we're obviously behind you on the time schedule,
so I actually have a really busy day to day
because I'm filming an influencer campaign and it's very christmasy
and it is a lot of fun to do. But
just like an acting audition, you've got to learn a script,
it go through a legal team, and you've got to
be pretty word perfect. And obviously the cool thing about
(02:44):
when you're doing it for social media is there's multiple
takes and you're doing things from different angles, so you've
kind of got time to look at the script between.
But it is it's quite high per I get it's
quite high pressure, my friends, because you have to hear
the word like hit the script perfect, word perfect, and
(03:04):
stick under a certain time limit as well. So anyway,
I went out yesterday to good old Target. So Target
in America and Target in Australia are two very different things.
Target in America is just like a Rolls Royce of targets.
Like you, there's a whole booze section, there's a whole
organic produce section. There was a whole Christmas pajama section,
(03:27):
and it is so christmas y right now. And I
because the campaign I'm feeling today is very christmasy, I
was like, I'm gonna have to go out and just
get a few Chrissy goods. And I will say I
stuck to under fifty dollars just and I got. I
went down the gingerbread theme very deer elk kind of
(03:48):
vibes with little deers around the Christmas tree, and then
it was just like gingerbread Town, which was so much fun.
So if you ever in America and you have a
themed thing or something you want to get goodies for,
definitely go to Target. It's so good. CBS usually, which
(04:08):
is a pharmacy, usually has a great Christmas range as well,
but I find CBS a pinch more expensive, and I
will say Target in America probably feels, oh, I'd be
about the same price as Target or Kmart dollar for dollar.
In Australia, the other one that used to be amazing
that has shut down is called the ninety nine cent
Store And that was so good, that's right. That used
(04:29):
to be my fail safe that I get like any
like I've had a birth dad go in and get
like tissue paper and really good for wrapping paper and
theming things. And they would the like the theme would
change all the time. So what is really really fun?
Americans do love decos, and I love decos, which is
why obviously we love like Halloween and and like in
(04:52):
literally like a week and a half, it's Thanksgiving, Boss,
and I don't have any plans this year, which I'm
not mad about because I think I said last week
all the week for we're really just trying to like
get into our health mode. We are not healthy, just
be really clear. But like it's we socialize a lot
in LA and socializing means you know, you're having a
few drinks here and there, or you're having a bit
(05:12):
of dessert. We're mad for an air one pie, oh
my goodness. Even the because of Thanksgiving, there are all
these themed pies right now. So we are obsessed with
the pumpkin cheesecake. Yeah, pumpkin spiced cheesecake. It's off the chain.
Usually get the pumpkin pie, but the pumpkin spiced cheesecakes
is good. And again Thanksgiving this pecan pie, which is
(05:35):
so good. The Americans. Americans know how to do pies,
sweet pies, not savory ones as far as I'm wear
like they become like chicken pot pies and stuff. Anyway,
So sweet pies like blueberry pie, rhubarb pie, apple pie.
And then they do a crumble version too, but it's
(05:56):
a pie with a crumble top essentially, versus that like
thatch top pecan pie, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, all amazing. Okay,
Americans do really good pies, sweet pies, really good cookies
that come warm, you buy them from the shop warm
ten out of ten, and junk food shake Shack. Actually
(06:18):
had a shake Shack date with my friend Brian last week.
We went to a movie. We saw It's called Die
My Love with Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. I'll give
your I'll give you a road testing on that next
but right he was like, let's just grab a bit
of sneaky shake Shack before. Oh it was so good,
and my friend Brian knows all the hacks. If you've
(06:39):
got the shakes Shack, shake Shack app on certain days
you get a free burger and stuff. So it worked
out really really fun and really like a little fun
burger date. And then we took our thick shakes into
the movies, which you're not meant to do, so I
SNU can be in my bag. Sorry to admit that. Anyway.
The trick with if you ever go, if you're at
(06:59):
America and you go to Shakeshack, you want to get
the cookies and cream thick shake but malted so they
put malt in it, like what's inside maltess, which Americans
don't know what maltesers are. By the way, their version
is called whoppers, not a burger, the same chocolate, and
it's nothing in compared to Australian maltesers. Anyway, I digress. Okay,
(07:21):
So we saw this movie called Dime. I love Jennifer Lawrence,
Robert Pattinson. It is pretty full on if I'm honest.
It's essentially about the psychological decline of a woman going
through postpartum depression, and it's pretty triggering, like there's a
(07:41):
bit of self harm in there, like just to give
you a bit of a heads up, you don't it's
like there. The cinematography is beautiful, like the way it
shot is beautiful, Like the like opening and closing scenes
are so beautiful, like to the point that like right
at the end there's a similar shot and I was like,
this is the end of the movie, because you know
how they bookmark the open in the end. Anyway, The
(08:04):
cinematography beautiful, The score not so much. The score. The
soundtrack really cool like that kind of like fifties sixties
nostalgic Americana kind of like folks see music that was
really nice. So basically the premise is she's an aspiring
order author, sorry, and I believe he's a musician, aspiring musician.
(08:25):
They go from New York to Upstate New York, which
is like living a bit more off grid in beautiful forestland,
but it's very remote and isolated, and they have inherited
Robert Pattinson's character. I think his name's Jackson, Jackson's uncle
uncle's house. But there's like a bit of like it's
(08:49):
not thriller, it's not horror, but there's like darkness I
would say, around like mental health themes. So anyway, very interesting,
Like it definitely made me think about it after, which
tells me then that is cool art. But I would
I would say, not like an easy watch, like it
definitely makes you feel uncomfortable, and you can hear people
in the theater like moving around a lot, because it
(09:10):
was quite confronting, especially some of the self harmony kind
of stuff. I was like, well, this is a lot,
but anyway, really interesting And I don't know if I
would like, if you know those triggers, then you could
go see you know what I mean? The other thing
Matt and I have finished watching over the last week
since I last spoke to you. Is Witcher, the the
(09:34):
Lee and Hemy version. It definitely grew on us and
obviously Lima's stuns, so he looks amazing. It's like the
thing with watching Witcher with Henry cavill is you just
feel like Henry cavell is made to be Gerald of Riviera.
He is Witcher. So it took a few episodes to
kind of like accept that Liam was playing girls. So
(09:56):
they're playing the exact same character, but like Yen, there's
his character Yen, and she's got purple eyes. She's an
amazing mage. I tht know they said, which but a
mage and she's InCred like the it's cool and the soundtrack,
like the composer. I don't know who the composer is,
but I feels like the same person from the other one.
(10:17):
So it's got that real kind of epic feel. Anyway,
It's on Netflix at the moment, as is what Boss
and I just started watching, which is Frankenstein with Jacob
A Lordie. So I've been seeing all these videos and
tiktoks about him spending eleven hours in hair and makeup
and then shooting, which just wild. So we started watching
it last night, loved it. I had spent a very
(10:41):
large part of last night wrapping Christmas gifts because I
need them as okay, so I need them as props
for this Christmas shoot I'm doing today. But I thought, well,
two Birds, one Stone, I'm going to wrap everyone's Christmas gifts.
And yesterday was the twelfth of November, and Matt's like,
you're crazy, You're doing Christmas gifts this early, and I'm like, yeah,
I am, sir. Do you know how much stress this
(11:01):
is going to alleviate and prevent? And so I've wrapped
and organized everyone's Christy presence pretty much like bar maybe
like one or two and they're all wrapped in the
beautiful gingerbread paper I bought yesterday from good old Target
for three dollars a roll bargs anyway, and I got sidetracks.
So we were meant to start Frankenstein very early. We
(11:23):
ended up starting it quite late and we just watched
the first kind of like twenty minutes. But it was great,
great cast go right, like that is it Child's dance
or that plays or child that plays Tigerian Game of
Thrones anyway, a really really really good cast in there. Okay,
(11:45):
the next thing, I've started reading Bonds of Hercules. I
haven't fully committed yet, So that's the sequel to Blood
of Hercules, which I would have road tested for you
or review, should I say a couple of a couple
of weeks ago now, But just because I interviewed another
author on the Weekend, Yanna Firestone, that's actually coming out
(12:05):
on Monday. She's incredible. She's a therapist that specializes in grief.
But we talked about I asked loads of not generic
but questions about like anxiety and things we can do
for our mental health. So I feel like it's a
good like self care episode you don't need to have,
Like it's not a specific grief centric episode. It's definitely
(12:29):
like mental health tips and tricks from a therapist. And
she's also obsessed with Bravo because she's here for Bravo Con. Anyway,
so that was a lot of fun to chat about
and we had a huge chat. Like it was a
lot of fun. I've been on her pod This Curious
Life or the Curious Life we figured out like four
or five years ago. So anyway, Lovely Human, Lovely Guest,
(12:52):
and that comes out on Monday. I've got a really
exciting guest book for this week. I don't want to
jinx it though, bigger guess. I get really scared that
they're gonna like their schedules could really change. So it's
all set up to record at a hotel in West Hollywood.
So that's happening on Sunday, and if that happens, that's
(13:15):
going to be very special, almost christmasy, not to give
too much away, kind of guess. So that's that's all booked, pumped. Okay,
what else to tell you? Oh, I'm going to the
theater tonight with my friend Chloe. We are seeing Anthony Mindel,
who's an amazing acting coach in Los Angeles. He's got
(13:37):
the Anthony Mindell School. I think there's one in like Sydney, London,
Like they're all over the world, and I'm just going
to get up my messages from him. He was like,
come see my place. So he's written and directed this play.
Here we go. I've got him here and he was like, Loaula, come,
I want you to come to the plane. And I
was like, okay, So I'm taking my mate Chloe. We're
going tonight. Okay, this is what it's called The Year
(13:59):
We Disappeared? How good? So like apparently I don't know
too much, but it's been described as avant garde. Anthony
Mindel wants to throw everything in there he can, knowing
there's no promise of a next time. Sure he should
come down a little, but I'd rather see that kind
of passion than none at all. Oh my god, how exciting.
(14:21):
So my mate Chloe and I are going to see
that tonight, but I think before that, we're going to
go to Rodeo Drive to watch the Christmas lights, like
it's the lighting of all the Chrissy decos because we've
just like clicked over daylight saving here in America. And
it gets stark at five now, yeah, really really early.
(14:43):
So I was like, well, the play doesn't start to eight,
and it's in West Hollywood and Rodeo Drivers literally ten
minutes from West Hollywood, So I was like, do you
want to do the lighting of the the Rodeo lights
and then and there's an air one there of course,
and grab a bite and then we're going to go
to the place. So that'll be nice, really big day
for me, though, I really need to get this influencer
(15:05):
campaign done and dusted and delivered today because it goes
live tomorrow. So I'm just trying to you know, stay
clear and caffeinated, my friends. As always, I'm going to
pull an angel card for you. So I feel like
it's been a bit of a potty update week here,
(15:27):
what's yours? Can I ask? So Americans are really into
watching podcasts, Like YouTube podcast is like this massive thing,
not such a thing in Australia, right, So I will
film some of my guests. If the guest is like, hey,
I'd love this to be filmed, then no probs. We
go ahead and hire a studio all that kind of thing,
(15:48):
and usually split the cost to let the guests will
get the studio, I'll get the editor. But I've noticed
because I just flick them on YouTube after and obviously
I use the video content to create audiograms, but I
have noticed that it's not such a big thing in Australia.
(16:11):
Like the YouTube views are like, if I'm being really honest,
quite low. But the audiogram so I'll use the clip
for like to make an audiogram for Instagram TikTok that
can be quite high, very fascinating anyway, I digress. But like,
also when I'm booking people not last minute, but like
that actor where I had a really small and short
window to make it happen. Well, in that case, you
(16:34):
don't necessarily have time to book a filming studio. And
obviously I've got all the gear with me and I
travel with it, so you know, I can always make
it happen. I'm just shuffling cards. Ps. Anyone in Australia
you want to hear on the pod is specifically Sydney based.
I can't get a hold of a studio in Melbs.
I'll have my gear with me and I want to
(16:55):
do like a cool crissy yep with Dad or New
Years Up with Dad because he's awesome. Okay, so I've
pulled the cards, so one fell out. We're going to
read that at the end. So for your past, you've
got weight. Don't rush into action right now, buy your
time for better results. That feels good for yesterday, for
present today. Explore your options. It's time to look at
(17:17):
other possibilities. It's a good time to make changes. But
remember a card fell out of the deck, so I
might turn that right at the end and we can
see if there's you know, friendship, make a date for
make a date for a play date with one or
more friends. Well that feels good because I'm going to
the theater with Chloe tonight. Okay, self, forgiveness is the
(17:38):
one that fell out. Let go of old guilt and
remember that you're God's perfect child. I'm going to look
at top and bottom of the deck. Now, Top of
the deck, pay attention notice repetitious signs in your inner guidance,
as this can yield valuable information. Oof. Bottom of the
deck's one of my faves. Alchemy. You have the Midas
(17:58):
touch right now, and every pro objector you begin turns
to gold. I feel like Matt's like that. So as
you probably know, we're in mercury retrograde right now, but
it's moving through the sign of Scorpio. I believe is
it scorpio when el we're in saggy season? Yet I
don't think so. I think we're scorps and Matt's a
Scorpio rising. And I have a theory that like it's
(18:21):
like I can see him in meetings, like people are
calling him and He's like no, it's just if I
feel like there's good energy around him, you know what
I mean? Anyway, I have a rip a weekend my friends,
and I'll check in with you next week. Hopefully I'll
just have so much crimbo stuff to talk to you about.
Having gone to the Rodeo Rodeo Drive lighting. You know,
(18:42):
Rodeo drives like the bougie part of Beverly Hills, but
they their Christmas lights is off the chain. So if
you want Christmas in La, because La is not super
Christmas y, obviously it's super hot as well, well not hot,
but it's not cold. So I took when dad was here,
I took him to the Grove Super Christmas, and then
I and I took him to Rodeo Drive so be
(19:06):
cute to be there for the lighting that it was
going to be gorge Gorgina. All right, well hooru. I'm
off to get my hair done because my roots are
really popping through and I need to look good for
this filming. All right, big glove Bye,
