About Tim Wood

TIM WOOD, Certified Financial Fiduciary® and Founder/President at Safe Money Retirement®, was raised and educated in Central Florida. After attending Valencia College, he worked for Walt Disney World as an audio/lighting/pyro tech, where he met his wife of over thirty years. He left Disney to get into the radio business in 1996 and—except for a few years running his own web design company and a couple years managing a drug store—has been involved in radio ever since.

He moved his family to the beautiful Appalachian foothills of Johnson City, Tennessee, in 2007, where he hosts a weekly on-air radio show and podcast, The Safe Money Retirement Show, as well as Safe Money Retirement webinars—teaching retirees in multiple radio markets and all across America the basics they need to know in order to make informed choices about their retirement.

Tim has been a trusted consultant for a great number of local business owners and high-net-worth individuals for well over two decades. He entered the retirement education field in 2017, after seeing a dire need for honest, independent, and easy-to-understand answers to the issues facing the Greatest Generation, the baby boomers, and every other generation hoping for a safe and prosperous retirement. As a consultant, business owner, and Certified Financial Fiduciary®, Tim has a passion for helping retirees or those planning for their retirement make smart choices regarding their retirement options, helping them ensure that their hard-earned retirement nest eggs remain safe from any market downturns, while providing them a guaranteed income they can never outlive. He is an invited author for ThinkAdvisor—a tool for those in the retirement industry—using his years of experience to help others with best practices and tips.

Tim teaches classes on Safe Money Retirement at local colleges, and he takes his role as an educator seriously, firm in his belief that proper knowledge is the key to making smart choices. His primary focus is helping to educate those at or near retirement about their options for wealth preservation and income planning, and creating an overall financial plan that will help ensure his clients a stress-free retirement. His belief in complete transparency and honesty led him to his career as a Certified Financial Fiduciary® and continues to light his path in his daily interactions with clients.

Tim is also a member of Ed Slott’s Master Elite IRA Advisor GroupSM, the nation’s leading source of accurate, timely IRA expertise and analysis to financial advisors, institutions, consumers, and media across the country. Understanding all the nuances involved with how every type of retirement plan works—and especially how they work with the ever-changing tax codes—is absolutely vital to ensuring that the plans he helps his clients develop are the best they can be. He is immediately notified of changes to the tax code and updates on retirement planning, so you can be sure your retirement dollars are safe from unnecessary taxes and fees. Additionally, membership gives him access to Ed Slott’s elite team of “America’s IRA Experts” to answer any tough tax or planning questions.

Tim and his wife, Melissa, have one daughter, who is currently attending college. In their free time, the couple enjoys traveling to sporting events and concerts. Tim also enjoys giving back to his community as much as possible.
