A young girl named Gerda must go on a quest to rescue her friend Kai from the clutches of the Snow Queen. After Kay is bewitched by a splinter from a magical mirror and taken to the Snow Queen's icy palace, Gerda embarks on a perilous journey through diverse lands. Along the way, she meets a series of characters who help or hinder her progress, including a wise old woman, a band of robbers, a talking crow, and a reindeer.
