Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the next
episode of the Fit and Healthy
Sioux Falls Show.
I'm your host, cj Workamp, andtoday we are going to be talking
about a new series that we arelaunching right here on this
podcast.
So let's dive in to today'sepisode.
Hey, what's going on, guys?
(00:38):
Cj Workcamp here, and I'm soexcited to be talking with you
(01:02):
about a new series that we aregoing to be to you the different
ways in which you can live afit and healthy lifestyle right
here in Sioux Falls.
And I kind of thought to myself, what better way to do that
than to really get to know thecoaches that we have at our gym
and really highlight with youwhat makes them tick, ways in
(01:26):
which they keep their health andfitness on track, what they do
throughout our community toreally use the different
businesses and the differentthings that we have available in
Sioux Falls, in our surroundingarea, to help them with their
health and fitness.
And who knows, maybe we'regoing to uncover some golden
nuggets, some golden takeawaysthat are gonna be able to help
(01:49):
you, of course but I would evensay myself be able to live a
more fit and a more healthylifestyle.
And so, as we move forward thenext couple months we are
adjusting our schedule, so weare gonna be releasing a new
episode every other week.
Obviously, with just the hustleand the bustle of summer and
with everybody moving andshaking and on the go, we're
(02:12):
gonna be adjusting to everyother week and launching a new
series Meet the Coach and soI'll be bringing all of our
different coaches on here, really having you get to know
them, and I may even be bringingon some past coaches, maybe
coaches that are no longer withus, maybe they coach somewhere
else here in town or maybe theyhave left the coaching realm and
(02:33):
are on to new and differentthings, but I'll be bringing
them on as well and we're reallygoing to be diving in to
meeting the coaches here inSioux Falls and learning how
they are able to live fit andlive healthy right here in Sioux
Falls.
And so, again, this is a muchshorter episode than normal and
(02:56):
I really wanted to just givethat announcement to you, and so
that was the main purpose ofthis episode, but you can't just
have an episode that's like twominutes long talking about a
new series that's coming, and soI do want to give you some good
takeaways for today and Ireally want to just help you
understand that, wherever you'reat in life right now, you can
(03:21):
decide today that today can bethe day that everything changes.
And really a lot of times inlife when you work to change
something, it's kind of adimming switch, meaning that you
don't just boom all of a sudden.
You hit that switch and nextthing you know everything has
changed.
But the one thing that you canflip the switch with that's your
(03:45):
mindset, because that issomething that you have full
control over, and I know thatsometimes it doesn't feel like
it.
Sometimes we have differentthings that pop up in our mind
and it is hard to control havingpositive thoughts come from
that.
But I wanna encourage you tounderstand that you do have
(04:06):
control over your mindset andthat when you can work towards a
more positive mindset, you canactually then work towards a
more positive life.
And the one tip that I want togive you and share with you was
really the tip that I usedmyself when I decided that I
(04:27):
wanted to open a gym, and sothis was back in the beginning
of 2014.
I was working for a familyowned company at the time.
Our family owned company mygrandma and her brother-in-law
owned.
It was called Queen CityWholesale.
So I was working there.
I had worked there for nineyears and I decided, like I
(04:49):
wanted to do something withhealth and fitness.
I wanted to own a gym or ownsomething that helped others
with their health and fitness, and I had this realization that
man, like we're influenced withso many different things and
there's so many differentinfluences out there in life.
I was like what is one of thebiggest influences that I have
(05:13):
with me all the time that reallydoes shape and shift my mindset
, and what I realized was thatit was my phone, because it has
all the social media platformson it, and if you're anything
like me, or like most people, your mobile device probably has
plenty of social media platformson it that you frequent and
(05:39):
what you can do is use them toyour advantage.
Yes, there's an algorithm, butthe algorithm works to show you
stuff that you like and stuffthat you want to see more of,
and so you can start to trainyour algorithm by simply liking,
(06:01):
following, unliking andblocking.
So by liking, following, unliking and blocking.
So by liking, following, unliking and blocking.
Those are the four kind of tipsin order to adjust your
algorithm.
So like and follow, or I don'teven know what I just said Like
follow, unlike and block.
(06:21):
Those are the different thingsthat you can do in order to
adjust your algorithm.
And so what I did and I'vetalked about this in the past,
but I like to call it a socialmedia detox, and it I don't mean
just like taking a break fromsocial media, I mean like
adjusting your social media, because when you come back, it's
still going to be.
(06:42):
If you take a detox where youdon't even go on it.
When you finally do get back onit, if you do get back on it, a
lot of the platforms take somefocused time when you're on it
(07:07):
and don't just mindlessly scroll.
Think to yourself.
And what I actually did is Imade like a list of all the
different things that I wouldneed to start really consuming
and learning to own a gym or tohelp people with their health
and fitness, and I was like man,I'm kind of at this point it
was 2014,.
I got certified through theNational Personal Training
(07:29):
Institute in 2009.
So a little time had gone pastthe five years, and so I was
like I need to refresh in all myskills on all of this stuff,
and so I started liking andfollowing health tips, workout
ideas, mindset and motivation, daily quotes and inspiration.
(07:49):
I started liking and followingthose things and then I started
basically unliking certain pagesand whatnot and unfollowing and
then even blocking things thatwere not pushing me in the right
direction.
Now I was and am your typical, you know, early 20 year old
where, man, I was drinking andpartying and going out and not
(08:12):
living the most healthylifestyle.
Heck, I even, at one point inmy life I helped open it was the
first vape shop here in SiouxFalls, and let me tell you this,
what we definitely know aboutvaping today it isn't conducive
of a health and fitnesslifestyle.
And so I was vaping and doingall the things and, as we kind
(08:36):
of, it was me and four otherpeople that launched the vape
shop here in town, and so atthat point, I was like liking
and following all thesedifferent vape things on my
social media.
So I had to detox from all thatstuff and I just started
basically unliking and blockingand unfollowing all these
(08:57):
different things that would getme sidetracked or off track
towards my goals, towards mygoals.
And so, as you look to reallymake progress in your health and
in your fitness, I want you tothink about does social media
have influence over you?
And if you're like 99% of thepopulation, the answer is yes,
(09:18):
now you might be that 1% wherethe answer is no, and if that's
you, then hey, good job.
But then I would look what elsehas influence over you.
Is it the radio?
Is it the things that youconsume, that you listen to and
really start liking andfollowing the things that are
going to be who you want to bein the future, like who?
(09:40):
And again, the hard thing withthat is I don't want you to get
caught up in like comparisonsyndrome, because then you can
actually start getting likecomparison of well, I'm not like
that person yet, but if itinspires you and if it motivates
you, then like and follow it.
And the second, that you startcomparing yourself to a certain
person or thing on Facebook.
If you at all feel anycomparison kind of rise up into
(10:04):
your mindset, that's your sign.
Unfollow, block, listen.
There's enough people on socialmedia that if you unfollow,
block or leave whatever page orgroup or thing, it is that
you're in that person, page orthing.
They're going to be okay.
They're not going to really godown because you left following
(10:26):
that page or whatever it is.
But you may be able to startgetting better results in life
by not having that negativecomparison thought pop in when
you see that, so you just getrid of it.
You just get rid of it Anythingthat pops up if it has anything
to do like for me it waspartying and party games and
this or that, all the differentthings.
I just blocked them, got rid ofthem, got them out of my social
(10:48):
media so that that way I couldreally focus on where it was I
wanted to go and the things Iwanted to accomplish in life.
And so that is my kind of tipfor you today is that wherever
you're at, you have the abilityto kind of draw the line in the
sand and start from this sideforward.
You cross the line and now youstart making consistent progress
(11:11):
towards the goals that you have.
And my tip for that would be toreally look at what things
influence you in life.
And it could be social media, and that's main what I'm talking
about, but it could besomething else too, and you may
need to edit those relationshipswith social media or the
different things that have thatinfluence over you, so that that
way, the things that are havinginfluence over you are
(11:32):
promoting the positive behaviorthat's pushing you to where you
want to go.
So that's my tip for you today, and then my announcement for
the day is that, moving forward,we are going to an every other
week launch or every other weekdrop of the Fit and Healthy
Sioux Falls show and we'rereally going to be going through
a series of meet the coach sothat we can uncover the golden
(11:54):
nuggets that really help themlive a fit and healthy lifestyle
right here in Sioux Falls inthe surrounding area.
