Speaker 1 (00:00):
What is going on?
My friends, welcome to the nextepisode of the Fit and Healthy
Sioux Falls show.
We are bringing on an awesomeguest today.
He is a coach right here at FitBody Bootcamp.
He is our facility leader atour West location as well as
taking on some now newresponsibilities.
(00:20):
But we'll let him dive intothat.
You guys get ready as wewelcome my good friend, coach
Jason, to the show.
Jason, what is up?
(00:53):
My man Another day.
Man, another day, another day.
In fact, july 4th is when weare releasing this episode.
But, man, I've been excited tohave you on here.
This is the first episode of anew series, meet the coach.
Um, and so I kind of let theaudience know before we dove in
that you are the facility leaderat our West location.
(01:16):
Um, explain fit body West.
A little bit Like if you couldexplain the vibes over at fit
body West, what would you kindof?
What comes to mind with that?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
there is a whole lot
of fun, whole lot of a whole lot
of fun.
Our coaches over there.
They know how to have a goodtime.
They know how to work you out.
They know how to make you sweatall the same time keeping you
smiling yeah, keep you enjoyingthe workouts and really, um, I
would say the compute there, too, is just phenomenal.
Yeah, everyone's been reallycoming together lately, just
(01:48):
kind of like creating thesesmall groups when they work out,
really bonding together.
And then I actually see a lotof Facebook posts with some of
the clients on there wherethey're actually hanging out
outside of the gym.
Oh, that sounds awesome and Ithink that's so cool, just
because we're not only gettingbetter, getting more fit, we're
actually building community.
People are coming together andlike realizing that they're not
(02:08):
in this alone.
Yeah, but there's people likein this journey with them that
they can rely on, lean on and, more than just fitness and life
things too, yeah, they can sharethose troubles that they're
having at home, you know, withfamily, with work, anything like
that.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
And you know they
have those people they can rely
on which they may not have hadbefore they came to Fit Body.
Yeah, I love that.
I was actually talking to aclient just after the Murph
event and she was telling methat one of her favorite things
of the event was that we hadthat whole area where they could
sit down and just talk and justshe's like the community
atmosphere and the communityaspect of what we do at Fit Body
.
She said, hands down, that's myfavorite thing.
Oh yeah, like so.
We always kind of say peoplewill come because they want
(02:49):
results, but they stay becauseof the community.
Yep, absolutely, because thetruth is and we launched a
episode a while back, a coupleof weeks ago so, with Pastor
Jacob Lewis, and we just talkedabout, you know, loneliness and
how we can really get into a pitwhen you're lonely and so being
surrounded by people.
(03:09):
So you bringing up that thatcommunity is just so strong over
there at the West location Isthis awesome to hear For anyone
that maybe doesn't know where isthe West location located?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
So it's on the T.
Well, I've been, I've been toldthis wrong way to say, but I
call it the t ellis road, yeah,um.
And then 26th street.
If you go right, um, just inthe same parking lot as
shenanigans if you don't knowwhere shenanigans that go to the
stoplight on tls on 26th,you'll see a big old fit body
sign sitting right there that'sright.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
That's right, that's
awesome and it's crazy, because
that part of town, uh, ishonestly like a whole nother
world.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
It is.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
And you live super
close right, yes, yes.
And so really kind of cool, youguys, how I met Jason is just
wild.
So people like, pick a word ofthe year.
They'll pick different kind oflike main things of the year.
My life kind of went in awhirlwind the end of last year
(04:05):
and so I decided, with my faithand kind of my beliefs, that you
know the word that I was goingto pick for 2024, well, it's two
words.
I've been reminded by a lot ofpeople that that's actually two
words, but it was God's plan andit just so happened that I ran
(04:26):
into you.
So if you're willing, share howyou found out about Fit Body.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
That's a long story.
Where do you want me to start?
Like where I think at thebeginning is for me.
Sure, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Because, to be honest
, I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Like I don't know
where you think the beginning is
versus where the beginning is,and so I'm going to alone.
We had a daughter, so obviouslywe're trying to co-parent
together while trying to workthrough this.
That was in the beginning of2023.
Fast forward, going aboutprobably about five, six months.
You know I was making somereally bad life choices.
(05:19):
I'm very destructive,self-destructive habits.
Ended up, I was working at avery, very good job making very
good money on, decided, you know, this just wasn't the lifestyle
I want anymore.
It wasn't a very healthy, worthand work environment.
Yeah, so I decided, you know, Iwant to go a different path.
Um, where I'm going to see abrighter future at with a
different construction companyyep, um.
(05:41):
So I ended up applying for them, got the the job, ended up, um,
failing a test with them.
Yep, um.
And then ended up having to, youknow, obviously not have a job.
So I was.
I was jobless, um, I was justputting my house on the market,
um, cause obviously I couldn'tafford it anymore.
Yep, um.
So I'm kind of sitting therefor about two weeks without a
(06:05):
job, bills to pay, a house towork on, yeah, and I was just
completely lost.
Yeah, nowhere to go, and there, honestly, for me was not a
future in sight besides the factof I have to just keep moving
forward, and the only the onlyreasonable option I thought of
(06:25):
at the time was I need to go toGod with this.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
I've been trying to
do it on my own for too long.
It wasn't working.
Yeah, obviously it wasn'tworking.
I failed as a husband, failedas a father and honestly I saw
myself I was a failure of a man.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And that was.
It can be a hard spot to be in.
It was really tough to just tocome to terms with, understand
like you have to do better inthe future.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
So during those two
weeks I was working on the house
actually picked up a couplehandyman jobs from, thankfully,
from a few guys that needed anextra hand on the job.
Yep, ended up reaching out toone of the pastors over at
Embrace here in town, yeah, through Instagram.
And that was an odd story initself because I was actually
working inside my daughter'sbedroom repainting the trim.
Yeah, I remember just likesitting down and just crying
(07:18):
about, thinking about all thethings I could have done better,
all the things I could havechanged.
Yeah, and it hit like things Icould have changed.
Yeah, and like a wall, like anemotional wall.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
I've had more of like
a train than a wall the train
hit me, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
So I'm sitting there
crying and I can hear I can
still hear God saying it likereach out to Pastor Adam.
Yep, I didn't.
I obviously didn't have hisnumber.
I reached out to him throughInstagram.
He told me that three differenttimes.
I told him no the first twotimes and he said, okay, I guess
I'll do it on the third try.
So, yeah, I reached out toPastor Adam and it came up with
(07:53):
an automated message from Mike.
Well, yeah, that was reallyhelpful, god.
At the bottom, it said reachout to this other pastor down
here.
He'll get in touch.
So I reached out to the otherpastor.
We met with him.
I talked about you know what wasgoing on in my life, where I
was headed, what had happened, and he goes.
You know there's this.
It was actually the Fridaybefore I met you.
(08:15):
He's like there's usually amen's group that usually meets
here at this location at 7 am to8 am.
So you just missed them.
So I'm like, okay, let's haveone next week and you should
totally attend it.
I'll link you up with one ofthe guys there.
They'll introduce you toeveryone.
So a week goes by.
It was actually my daughter'sbirthday.
Yeah, yeah, and I remembergoing in there it was raining.
(08:39):
I just got done working out atthe gym.
I'm still in like my workoutclothes and bringing the extra
to change into.
Yeah, and here I actuallyrunning about three, three,
three or five minutes late andeveryone's kind of circling.
I'm like, oh, this isn'tintimidating at all yeah so I
find my seat.
We start talking, um.
I don't remember what um bookwe were going through, but at
(08:59):
the end I ended up opening up tothese strangers yeah, no, no
clue who they were.
Yeah, pretty much laying it outwhere I was in life.
Yeah, and I remember everyonepraying over me, yep.
And then you would come up tome afterwards saying, hey, you
know, I have a job opportunityfor you if you're interested and
(09:20):
tell me.
You know I was in the fitnessindustry.
I guess I've never actuallyworked in the fitness industry.
I've always wanted to.
I've always worked out though.
So I have a general idea of howto get things done, um, and
kind of from there.
It was, you know, going throughthe interview process, the mock
session, and then going, youknow, kind of finishing up all
the house stuff.
Yeah, and uh here.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
I am, yeah, so, so
wild.
Um, because what I think iscrazy too is that, in the way in
which the world works, we'reall living our own life right.
So while you're living thatlife, while you're going through
that obviously I was goingthrough my life, and it was
(09:59):
Wednesday of that same week whenI met you at that men's group.
We were fully staffed, weweren't hiring, and it just so
happened on Wednesday that wehad a coach, let us know that
she was going to be moving, andso, very randomly, like we
didn't have any idea, but all ofa sudden on Thursday now we
have an up and coming jobopening, but Wednesday we didn't
(10:22):
.
So we found that out onWednesday.
Thursday, now we do, I'mtalking with Vicki.
I I'm like we don't really have.
We did.
We've been kind of coasting asfar as a team.
We weren't like activelyrecruiting.
Um and again though, uh, justknowing that, hey, we're gonna
figure this thing out, go tomen's group and uh, meet you.
And I told you that before Ieven talked to Vicky.
(10:43):
Then I get ahold of Vicky.
I I was like, hey, vicky, I metthis dude.
You can tell he works out justby the way you how he looks.
I mean, he definitely is a fitdude.
He's never worked in fitness, but I told him that we're hiring
so he might be stopping by.
But just wild right.
And it just so happens too thatyou live closer to the West side
(11:03):
.
But we had been an opening atCentral, not at West.
So we went through that wholeprocess and we ended up hiring
you as a coach for Central theweek that you were going to
start.
It just so happens that ourhead coach at West decides to
put in his two weeks.
And again we had no idea thatthis was coming.
(11:27):
But all of a sudden.
So here it is on a Mondayyou're going to be starting with
us.
You were supposed to be set tostart at Central, but it just so
happens that West would be moreconvenient for you as far as
where you're located.
And all of a sudden now we havea position open at West, and so
we move you.
Like, get a hold of you.
Hey, would you rather actuallycoach at west?
(11:48):
We just so happen to have aposition, come and we'll fill in
central, uh, somewhere somehowelse.
And so we move you to the westlocation, and if we just kind of
hit the fast forward buttonbecause so many crazy things
have happened like what's iteven?
How long has it been?
Speaker 2 (12:01):
nine months, uh
actually it's been July, june,
may no.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
June is before.
Oh, you're going backwards.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
I'm going backwards.
So I got 10 months in 10 months.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Okay, I got it.
Got it, and in 10 months wehire you on as a coach and then,
with the weird turn of events,we end up moving you over to
West and then our facilityleader at west ends up putting
her notice in and we're like, ohmy goodness.
So then we get a hold ofanother coach and you know kind
(12:35):
of just, uh, time wise, um, itwould make more sense, like he's
put in more time, obviously, than than you have.
But he is super content, coachr, with being the head coach and
leading that front, andactually wasn't looking for the
opportunity to run a facilitymore so lead the coaches, and so
(12:58):
he was content with where hewas at.
So then we opened upapplication for that within our
team.
First you applied for that andwe end up now having you as
facility leader at West.
You're on our leadership teamand it is just wild to see that.
So if that's been 10 months, 11months ago you were jobless, oh
(13:20):
yeah 11 months ago you werejobless.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
I had no idea this
was the plan that God had for me
.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
No, no, neither did I
.
I had no clue that we would behere.
But here, fast forward, 11months from jobless.
You are now.
It's me, you, vicki and Jensen.
There's four of us that are onthe leadership team that are
leading these locations andworking on continuing to grow
them and just change lives herein our community, and it's been
(13:48):
wild to see all of that.
It is so.
I did kind of give the audiencea little preview that you're
stepping into a couple new rolesand so you are stepping into
kind of overseeing finance andHR.
They're very new.
Within the last month.
(14:09):
How's that been going, you know?
Speaker 2 (14:12):
it's it's going good.
It's stressful just because ofthe fact it takes time to learn
new things.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
And it seems like the
responsibilities have actually
increased.
Yeah, but it seems like timedoesn't do that, though you
can't get more time on the dayno, no, so it's been a challenge
, just because it seems likeevery God wants to challenge you
every single day of your life.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Not in a way to put
you down, and you know, keep you
down.
It's a way for you to grow,yeah.
And every time that I've gottencomfortable like saying I was
comfortable with a coach Yep,well, time to be a facilitator,
yep, had to grow into thatposition, still growing the
position, still trying to, youknow, be the best leader that I
can for that facility Well, nowit's like, okay, here, here's
another plate for you to nowwork on.
(15:01):
Yeah, so it's, it's reallylearning and managing and
balancing your life.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
And knowing you know,
knowing what's important,
knowing what's going to make aneffect on those around you in a
positive way.
Yeah, and honestly, just keepin keeping moving forward.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Yeah, you know, I
kind of am wondering this here
as you were talking.
So here you are, not only brandnew to Fit Body but brand new
to the fitness industry.
Yeah, and so kind of this is atwo part question.
One is how long have you beenlike working on your own health
(15:39):
and fitness?
Speaker 2 (15:40):
I first started
rigorously working out in the, I
would say, summer of 2016.
Ok, that was the year of mydeployment over to Iraq and
Kuwait.
Ok, I had figured, you knowthis is my time to really focus
in.
I actually started kind of downin texas where we were doing
our pre-mob training.
(16:01):
Yeah, I started, you know, watching a lot of videos, just
kind of working out, um, got onlike a free program, like, you
know how do you work out for abeginner?
Yeah, um.
The one thing that it didn'tcover, though, was nutritional
side of things.
Yep, um, so that kind of camelater on down the road, but, but
I really focused in on, youknow how, how the body moves,
(16:21):
how those muscles work togetherto move weight, yeah, and the
whole fat loss kind of thing.
That came more when I was aboutin country for probably about
six to eight months I was inthere and kind of got my.
Okay, you know I'm working outin Iraq and Iraq.
Yeah, and I'm working on, youknow, twice a day I'm like I'm
not getting stronger.
You know I've gotten bigger, but I'm just been kind of
(16:44):
maintaining right now?
Speaker 1 (16:45):
And were you looking
to gain size or were you looking
to lose weight?
Like where?
Where were you at?
Like what was your physique?
Physique Like when you startedyour fitness journey?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
I was 180 pounds, 180
pounds, 180 pounds.
I was skinny Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Very, very skinny.
What do you weigh now?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
I'm sitting about 230
right now.
230.
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Put on about 50
pounds Yep, yep.
Probably 49 pounds of muscle,yep.
Yeah, okay, pretty close,pretty close.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yeah, I did realize.
Then you know I need to changeup my diet habits.
Yeah, when I ended up leavingcountry, I was 230 pounds.
Downside was is that my bodyfat percentage also increased?
Yeah, I was good by mynutrition, but there was also a
lot of snacks available on thearmy buffet.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
I'm sure, like what
are you eating for snacks on the
army buffet they had?
Speaker 2 (17:36):
cheesecake, they had
cookies, ice cream, it was not.
So this is actually back inKuwait now.
Okay, they didn't have thatextensive of a buffet over in
Iraq, Sure, but Kuwait, you know, they had everything you had.
They had seafood, they had, youknow, american burgers, italian
pizza, so it was like I justwant to eat food, so I'm going
(17:58):
to.
Yeah, and they actually hadfour meals available during the
day they had the morning, thelunch, the evening, dinner and
then they had midnight chow.
Midnight chow was the best, because you either got dinner or
you got brand new breakfast.
Okay, yeah, okay.
So I was eating a lot and Ijust I wasn't really, um, you
know, super, super precise withmy nutrition, sure.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
Sure.
So you've been really workingon your health and fitness since
like 2016.
Um, so we're almost a decade in.
You know we're two years awayfrom from hitting that, uh, that
decade mark, um, and and so youknow, they they really say that
if you can do something for 10years, you can become like an
(18:40):
expert at it.
And so you're almost an expertAlmost We'll call you a
pre-expert.
So you're getting there, sokeep it up.
But so you now come into thefitness industry and you have
all this knowledge that you'vegained on your own.
But all of a sudden now youhead into this facility with
hundreds of clients that don'tknow you.
But all of a sudden, now hereyou are as facility leader.
(19:04):
How was that transition?
Speaker 2 (19:08):
It was tough just
because I love to challenge
people, but I had to quicklyunderstand that not everyone has
the strength capabilities thatI do.
It was hard for me totransition from this.
You know I would bench press, you know 200, some pounds.
Well, some clients, you knowthey may to use a quite a bit
(19:28):
lighter weight, sure, and that'sokay, but I understand, like
their physical capabilities andhow to effectively progress them
through the weights.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yep, effectively
progress them.
Yeah, weights, yep so, and Iknow coach ryan um definitely
helped you a ton.
Learn, learn how to.
Because also, too, there'ssomething way different to be
said about.
Well, one, personally workingyourself out, um, but in a
strength manner.
You know where you're in atraditional gym, just moving
weight, um, or a fit body, where's number one it's not
(19:59):
one-on-one, it's group.
And then number two, it's morehit, it's it's high intensity
interval training, which isn'tjust getting under that bar and
pushing the weight, it's.
It's really a whole differentgame.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
It is.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Um, and so you've
been just doing awesome, diving
in and learning.
One of my favorite things isjust your appetite to always be
willing to take on more andalways willing to learn more.
Yes, um, but now that you, youknow you're in this role, that
you're in um, life keeps moving.
Like you say, um, recentlymarried and so, uh, congrats on
(20:35):
that, thank you.
But so you find yourself hereNow.
You are married, beautiful wife, beautiful family.
You've got your daughter, you've got her son, and how, as
a family, do you?
Because I know Katie comes froma fitness background.
Yep, she comes from CrossFitand CrossFit is her baby.
(20:57):
She loves that.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
Yes, she does.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
And and and.
That's the thing I love aboutfitness, and I think that you
even found it in strengthtraining.
Like you, just you, you are, you're in love with going in
there, because it's a place thatyou can clear your mind, it's a
place you can focus on you, andin this fast paced world we
don't have many places where wedo that.
You, we don't have many placeswhere we do that.
You know we're always doingsomething right in front of us
(21:19):
and we're not working on us.
Yep, we're working in the mixof the busyness.
So now you're married, you'vegot your daughter, her son,
combined together.
How do you guys fit fitness ornutrition or health, active
lifestyle into your now newfamily?
(21:39):
Do you guys do it?
There's a lot of self-sacrifice.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Yeah, um, I had to
completely switch up my workout
routines that way she could gether workouts in too do you mean
like the timing?
timing was okay, yeah, um, so Iwould normally go at, you know,
super early in the morning or inthe afternoon, but now it's we
have to now trade off.
You know who is available to gowhen.
Who's going to take care of thekids.
(22:05):
There's a lot more planninginvolved, yeah, and that's kind
of the biggest part about all.
This is just like planningahead.
You know, hey, we're going togo work out these days, you're
going to take care of the kidsduring this time.
Yeah, you're going to go workout at this time and just, you
know, working together on it andthen just kind of pre-planning
everything.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Yeah, so do you find
and I think I kind of already
know the answer, but I don'twant to lead the witness Do you
find, though, that when you doplan when you're going to be
able to work out and plan theactual time and who's going to
be watching the kids when thatit makes it easier to get your
workouts in?
Oh, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Yeah, there's no like
oh, hey, I'm going to go work
out.
I mean we, what do you mean?
You're going to go work out?
We didn't talk about this.
Yeah, I got to watch the kids.
I already had planned, so it'slike pre-planning, you know,
with your significant other is ahuge part, just because you're
just communicating.
Yeah, communication is so key.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
You know, I think I
actually gave a presentation on
this.
This has probably been probablysix years ago now, but I titled
the presentation.
It was for a whole bunch ofnurses and doctor's assistants
and whatnot, and I titled thepresentation Become the Doctor.
And the reason that I titled itthat is because when you think
(23:15):
about a doctor, a lot of timesif you need to go be seen for
something or whatever it is, youhave to schedule an appointment
, and many times it's like weeks, months, sometimes I've heard
of cases where it's like years, where you have to have this
appointment scheduled becausethat's when the doctor is
(23:37):
available.
And for some reason, we live inthis society or this world where
we will plan these scheduledappointments with a doctor but
we won't plan or scheduleappointments with ourselves.
Right, we will plan or schedulesomething with anybody else
shooting this episode.
(23:57):
We planned it, it's been on thecalendar, we put it on there,
and so you and I both made it tothis appointment.
But the funny thing is is thatif we'll do it for the doctor
we're, why won't we do it forourselves?
Like, why don't we plan and notonly plan literally put it on
(24:19):
your calendar, cause and it'skind of be weird.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
It's going to be
weird hearing this because we've
been told not to do this, butyou have to be selfish for
yourself.
Yeah, and not in a way whereit's like you know, I want all
this, but it's like you have tobe selfish Then in a way where
it's like you know I want allthis, but it's like you have to
be selfish, then you know what'sgoing to be best for you.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Yeah, speaking on
that topic, I think that one of
the biggest I don't know justnormalisms that this world has
made normal is is not beingselfish.
And again, like, you have tomake sure that you're not taking
this out of context, becauseyou could and totally hear the
wrong thing here.
But if you truly understandthat we are only able to be as
(24:59):
good for those around us, or thepeople around us, that we are
for ourselves, then we mustlearn to be selfish and first
work on us.
Yeah, you know, because it'sthat old adage of you can't fill
someone else's cup out of anempty cup, right?
So we have to be selfish, andnot selfish in any of the
(25:19):
negative ways that the world has.
Like, the world tends to takecertain words and then place
their own definition on them.
Oh yeah, right.
And so I've been having funlately redefining words and just
putting my own Because, like,if the world says it's this like
, why does?
My favorite one that I've beenworking on most currently is
(25:41):
success.
That's been my most favoriteword to totally redefine,
because, for myself, I got stuckchasing the worldly view of
success and it leaves you empty.
It really does, and so, when itcomes to selfishness or being
selfish, you can chase thatworldly version, or we can
(26:02):
define it as what it can meanfor us, which is filling your
cup first, yep.
And so you found schedulingyour workouts, planning them
with Katie, helps not only you,but also then helps her.
Yeah, and then you guys canhelp pull each other accountable
right.
Exactly, yeah, yeah.
What about nutritionally?
How do you guys do with that?
Speaker 2 (26:21):
That one's a little
more difficult.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Sure, I'll be honest
with you.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Sure, it takes a
little, a lot more effort into
planning.
Yeah, because obviously we wantto eat as healthy as we can,
because obviously we want to eatas healthy as we can.
Yep, having kids that are underthe age of 15 and under the age
of five, yeah, it can be alittle more difficult, yes, but
I think you also have torecognize too that they are
still kids.
They can still have, you know, those little bit of treats here
(26:46):
and there.
Yep, it definitely takes a lotmore self-preservation to know,
hey, those kids are having thattreat.
I probably shouldn't have that, yeah, but if I do decide to
have it, I'm not going to eatthe whole bag of Oreos.
I will have one or two and thenthat will be it.
And then I'll go hide that Oreobox inside the shelf so I don't
(27:06):
see it again and get taken byit.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
A tip that I used to
talk with our clients about when
I was doing more of like thenutritional coaching.
I would always help them come upwith this tip of creating a
cupboard that was off limits tothem and, if you can take all
because a lot of times we tendto not do this on purpose but
next thing, you know ourcupboards they end up having all
these unhealthy items kind ofall over, like the cereal is in
(27:32):
this cupboard and the chips arein that cupboard and the snacks
are in this cupboard, and soit's like every time you open a
cupboard there's alwayssomething that's unhealthy
tempting you in that cupboard aswell.
So if you look at, kind of yourliving situation at your house
and you're like, okay, let'sclear all of the unhealthy
temptations and put them all inone cupboard, then that way when
(27:56):
you have to open up whatevercupboard to get whatever it is,
you don't have that temptationstaring you in the eye and and I
think that you know, uh reallycan help too with kids, because
you put their snacks next toyour.
Also, uh, the chips and all thestuff that you would have as
well, but you put it all in onecupboard, yep and and you don't
go into it unless it's time to.
(28:17):
You know, have a snack, yep.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah, that's what
we've done so far.
I've actually consolidated likeall of these sweet treats onto
one shelf on the tallest, tallest shelf inside that
cabinet.
So it's the it's the most workto get to and it's the least
tempting to see.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
Yeah, I love that.
So that's a great tip foranyone watching or listening
Take those temptations and getthem out of sight, out of mind,
so that you can have morehealthy items more readily
available.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Yep exactly.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
And they're out there
they are.
You just have to start lookingfor them and finding them and
then you know, try the ones outthat are going to best help you
on your nutritional journey.
Um, cool, let's kind oftransition a bit here into you
as a coach.
So so you're a coach, you helprun these sessions, you keep the
(29:08):
energy up, you meet withclients.
What would you say is yourfavorite part about being a
coach?
Speaker 2 (29:19):
clients.
What would you say is yourfavorite part about being a
coach?
Oh, yeah, I love and a lot ofmy clients will say this too I
love to push people.
Yeah, I love to break thatmental barrier that someone
thinks this is as hard as I cango.
Yeah, I hit that next gear forthem, or I motivate them.
Hit that next year they gofaster, they go, they push
themselves just a little bitmore.
Yeah, like whoa, I can do that,I can go, I can go move a
little bit faster, I can movethat a little bit heavier weight
(29:39):
.
Yeah, and building those, thoseslow transitions upward and
their speed, agility or strength, or even just in holding a low
plank position just for fiveseconds longer, is like I'm
getting better and it shows thatthese clients are progressing,
they are making those resultsand they're just working towards
(30:00):
those goals.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Yeah, that is the
best thing ever.
Sometimes you'll get adifferent answer from a coach,
but a lot of times it is seeingthe client progress.
There's many industries thatare industries where you get
more fulfillment out of otherpeople's success and we
definitely work in one of thoseindustries as well where we can
(30:25):
be having just a rough day.
But when, all of a sudden, weget a message from a client or
we meet with the client, or aclient walks in and shares a win
with us, it can take that hardday.
Because the truth is you guysand those of you watching and
listening, we all know thisoutside of the four walls that
we're at right now, life isdifficult.
Life is difficult and there'sso many things trying to weigh
(30:47):
us down, and so you never knowwhat someone's going through.
But as a coach, we do our bestto leave what might be weighing
us down, leave it on the lineand we step into that coach
position so that we can makesure that we can help our
clients and help them carrywhatever may burden that they
have.
But so we can be going throughthese tough days and all of a
(31:09):
sudden, the coach or a clientcomes in and just shares a win,
or we see them.
Progress Makes it all worth it.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Oh, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Because, also, too,
coaching early mornings, late
evenings Not the most desirableof a schedule.
No, not some days, no, on a lotof days it's not.
Let's be honest, you know, thankfully for you, living as
close as you do to West, youhave a little bit of upper hand
on me, but it is my fault.
(31:38):
I moved over to the East side,so when I have to coach at the
West location, I have to plan it, I have to schedule it, I have
to put it in my calendar, I haveto make sure my truck's full of
gas.
I got to make sure that mytires are full of air, because
it's a trip, it's a road trip,it is.
I mean, it's not that bad, butit is about 25, 30 minutes to
get over there.
(31:58):
It's a minute and um, it's morethan a minute, um.
But so if we have to be therefirst sessions at 5 15, we're
getting up like before four, yeah, to get ready to get going
and get over there, and that'searly, man.
So how do you deal with that?
Because I mean, you worked kindof more in like the
construction field before this.
(32:20):
Yep, were they also similarhours or no?
Speaker 2 (32:23):
No, no, we usually
run from about 7 to 4 each day.
Okay, so that's a transition, yep, completely backwards from
what I'm doing now.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
How the backwards
from what I'm doing now?
Yeah, how is that then?
Thankfully enough, I did a lotof my workouts either early in
the morning or late in theevening, so it just it was a
good transition, sure, but I do.
I've learned that I need anhour to wake up in the mornings,
yeah.
So instead of waking up at, say, four o'clock to go or say my
past job, I would wake up halfan hour early, get dressed, go
to work Yep.
Totally.
(32:54):
Skip breakfast, totally, justnot be ready to go for the day.
I now know that I have to havea little more preparation before
I come in and help all thesepeople.
I will wake up an hour, hourand a half before I have to be
there.
So I know that I'm awake, I amprepared for the day, I'm
prepared to help all thesepeople out Yep.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Yeah, absolutely, and
so you just you adjust your
schedule and then you go and youput in the work.
What?
So?
You kind of said your favoritepart about coaching.
As we think of Fit Body and thenew roles that you're stepping
into HR, finance and taking onmore responsibilities but not
getting more time to get it alldone what is something that
(33:33):
you're looking forward to forthe future of FitBody?
What are you looking forward towith our company?
Speaker 2 (33:41):
I would say the
probably I've thought about that
.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Yeah, yeah, Because
one of those things a lot of
times again, we're so busyliving in the now that again it
does take time to look and andand plan kind of, uh, the future
that you're after, Um and thenand then going and making it
happen.
So so, yeah, so you're takingon the HR and finance.
I mean it's been a bigtransition, but you've been
(34:10):
doing great with that.
I think.
For me, one of the things thatI've really been enjoying while
working with you and theleadership team, we've just
embarked on this new journey,re-going through from scratch
the EOS process and I have beenin EOS.
For any of you that maybe don'tknow what that is, it stands
for entrepreneurial operatingsystem and it really gives us a
(34:33):
structure so that we can run ourbusiness effectively and
efficiently and so that we'reall not just running around
doing all the same things, breaking it down to why did we
start this thing, how can wemake it better, how can we be
one of the things that EOS ishaving us do right now, which
(34:55):
gotta give a shout out to ourimplementer, Micah Bruns.
Big shout out to you.
He's been helping ustremendously, but he had us read
the book Good to Great, and soI've read through that book and
one of the things that I loveabout it is it's like, if you
can't be the best at it, why areyou doing it Right?
And so I've been really lookingat our business through the
lens of like, what can weliterally be the best at, and
(35:18):
what are we maybe doing rightnow that we're good at?
But we maybe shouldn't be doingit because we can't be the best
at it?
Yeah, and so that's been superfun at it, and so that's been
super fun, and I've been lovinghaving a sounding board and
different ideas or perspectivesof my ideas, because for any of
you that know me, I can have alot of ideas.
I can have a lot of differentthings that maybe I think we can
(35:41):
be the best at.
But having someone on a teamlike you and Vicki and Jensen
that can keep me in line and allthe rest of our team as well,
they do a great job of justhelping keep me in line, but
it's been fun just figuring outhow can we make this thing the
best possible for our clients.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
That's probably the
honest now.
You say it now.
I think it's probably the thingI'm most excited for is really
getting better for our team sowe can be the best team for
those clients out there yeah andthat way we can help as many
people as we can yeah and thenjust make Sioux Falls a better
community overall.
Yeah, 100%.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
And the thing I love
about how tight our team is and
and even how tight it's gonnaeven more tight it's going to
become is that when you startwith FitBody, you don't just get
one coach.
No, you get a team of coachesand, knowing our team, if a
client needs something, we willfigure out how to help that
(36:41):
client, do it or achievewhatever it is that they're
after.
And my thing is, I used to saythis I haven't said it in
actually a long Um, so youprobably have actually never
heard it, but I used to say whenI'd be in meetings with clients
is like I want to replaceGoogle for everything health and
fitness in your life.
Uh, and so I haven't said it ina long time, but, like, when our
(37:03):
clients come to us, I like somany times we have these random
questions and now it's probablySiri and Alexa and all the
different things that you canask but, it used to just be
Google, okay, but when somethingpops up, you Google it, and
then the next thing that happensis you get a hundred different
answers to that same thing, andso I've always loved that, and I
(37:25):
guess I don't know why Istopped saying that.
But if we can really look at usas the resource for our clients
to replace google as itpertains to their health and
fitness like who wouldn't wantthat?
A team that they can come towith any health or fitness
related question, and we aregoing to figure out the best
answer for them, right, not the,not the most highest searched
(37:47):
answer or not the best answeraccording to the algorithm, the
one that's going to be the bestfor that?
Yep, and so it's just beenawesome.
Uh, jason, I think we couldhonestly talk probably all day.
Oh, we could, um, but we knowthat those that are watching or
listening they probably haveother things to do, especially
on july 4th.
Like, if you're sittingactually listening to this on
july 4th, go light a firecrackeror something.
(38:08):
Okay, july 4th, what's yourfavorite firework?
Speaker 2 (38:13):
Oh man, technically
it's not a manufactured, you
actually make it yourself.
Uh-oh, you ever heard ofsparkler bond?
Speaker 1 (38:23):
No, what is this?
Maybe we shouldn't talk aboutthis on the air.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
I will give a brief
description okay, okay, it is a
bunch of sparklers combinedtogether, okay you.
Then there's one just stickingup.
You light that one and it'spretty much like a mini, mini
explosion I feel like that's notsafe.
It's not safe I would notrecommend doing it.
Okay, but it is my favorite oneokay, okay.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
So it's our favorite,
but we don't recommend it yeah,
definitely don't try it got it.
Got it okay.
Uh, I love that.
I'd have to say that mine wouldbe the roman candle again.
Not, not for the safest ofreasons, but I can remember as a
child uh, my parents live on 20acres and you've never been to
my parents house.
I have not yet.
No, we'll have to go out theresometime.
They live on 20 acres and andwe had four-wheelers growing up
(39:10):
and I can remember we made andit was one of my cousins showed
me this but PVC piping and youmake these Roman candle guns
that you can put the Romancandle in.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
But then we would
take turns being the target and
we would put a full face maskhelmet on.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Oh, so there was some
safety a little bit, but that
was it and then we would go ridethe four-wheeler out through
the field and then we'd have acouple of us that would have the
roman candle guns and we wouldshoot it at the person driving
the four.
I mean not safe at all.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
Not at all probably
stupid.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
you probably don't do
that anymore, though.
Right, it has been a while, butI might do it later today.
Okay, just saying.
Just saying, but I thinkthere's something about that.
You can't put guys that somehowended up adults that are still
children which I kind of wouldplace you and I both in that
category.
(40:02):
Like we're living an adult life, but we're still children.
Uh-huh, you can't put us aroundall these fireworks and not
expect not to like push thoselimits of safety you have to
yeah, so, uh, but anyways, um,let's reel this thing back in um
, what would, what would you sayfor anyone watching, listening,
(40:22):
what would be your biggest orbest kind of tip, as it pertains
to their health, their fitness, that they could take away from
this episode and be like man?
I, okay, I can do that.
If there's one thing that I'mgoing to go do, I'm going to go
do that.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Be obsessed with your
own success.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
That is it's.
It's a.
It's a big thing to think about, but if you change that mindset
and realize that you arecapable and you are able to do
these things, you will be ableto succeed way more than you've
ever even expected to do.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Yeah, I love that
answer and it's redefining
selfish.
It's understanding that youdon't have to not be selfish.
You actually need to be alittle bit, a little selfish so
that you can reach those goalsthat you have, so that you can
go out there.
You can be a better mom, youcan be a better dad, you can be
a better friend, you can be abetter parent.
In.
The list goes on.
(41:17):
Yeah, absolutely it does.
Well, hey, jason, thank you somuch for taking the time.
Um, I think this is awesome, you guys, if you got any value
from this, um, if, if, and also, too, if you are one of the
clients that Jason gets to workout on the regular, be the coach
for comment down below, justsomething that you took away
from this episode, becausethere's some stuff that I
(41:39):
learned about you in thisepisode, and I can almost
guarantee you that when you'recoaching the clients and you're
interacting with the clients, you're not talking about your
failed marriage or your failedfather or all these things that
you shared on the show today.
Um, so I just want to also saythank you for being vulnerable.
Um, I think, to the level inwhich we can be vulnerable with
(42:01):
others, um, the level we canconnect with others and then the
level that we can change others.
So thank you for that.
But you guys comment down below.
We can get you guys.
If you're not a client of oursand you want to check it out, we
can get you a free week.
We have a new promotion trialgoing on right now, so if you go

But other than that, you cancatch Jason at our Westside
location.
Let's go.
Sometimes at our centrallocation, but mainly at the
Westside.
You guys, hey, have an awesomeday.
