Ever catch your breathat something unexpectedly
beautiful, my friend?
This week's vibe is allabout that feeling and the
benefits you experiencewhen you lean into it.
Welcome to FLIPSIDE OF MIDLIFE®.

(00:21):
I'm Karli Newman, your favoriteGenX dealer of positive
vibes, community builder andlife and wellness coach for
women in midlife and beyond.
I'm so happy you'rejoining me here today.
This episode is the fifth andfinal in a summer series focused
on helping you tap into thefeel good energy of the season.
And we are sealing the deal withthe soul lifting vibes of awe.

(00:45):
Awe is a powerful emotionthat reminds us we are
part of something bigger.
It quiets the internal noise, snaps you into the present
and provides perspectiveon your relationship to the
external world, even if it'sfor a few fleeting moments.
Yes, feeling smallcan be a good thing!
But awe isn't justa cool feeling.

(01:06):
There are science backedbenefits associated with it.
Here are five for you.
First awe expands perspective.
It's 'I am small' in a good way.
It reduces rumination youmay be experiencing and
it can lessen overwhelm.
Think of those moments whenyou see the mountains or
incredibly starry sky orsomething just so beautiful,

(01:28):
like a sunrise or a sunset, andthe colors catch you off guard.
That my friend are, thosefeelings of 'the world
is so much bigger thanme' and it can put those
problems and that overwhelminto perspective for you.
Another benefit of awe is thatit increases life satisfaction.
Awe gets you thinkingabout the meaning of life.

(01:49):
I know I feel like thiswhen I look up at the stars.
And I wonder how did we figureout what's going on up there?
It can help youfeel resilient, too.
Knowing that there's so muchmore outside of yourself
can give you the strengthyou need to keep going.
A third benefit is that awehelps you connect and experience

(02:12):
feelings of community.
Feelings like kindness,generosity, compassion.
When you experience awe, youknow that you are connected to
something greater than yourself.
That feeling of connectioncan translate over into
your feelings of community.
Experiencing awe may improveyour physical health.

(02:33):
Chemicals are beingreleased in your body.
Chemicals that may reducepain, that boost your
mood, which may reduce yourtension and your stress.
There's too much of that inthe world, as we all know.
So why not find awe moreoften and get a boost in
your physical health, too?
And the last benefit Iwanna share with you is

(02:54):
that experiencing aweenhances your creativity
and your open-mindedness.
You increase curiosity.
Your mind becomesmore open to exploring
different, bigger ideas.
It encourages moreexpansive thinking.
Remember that benefit the nexttime you're feeling stuck on
a problem or you just can'tsee how to move forward.

(03:16):
Get out to ,see a sunrise ora sunset, a mountain view,
or the ocean, the stars, orunder the canopy of trees.
When we are in nature, thosemoments of awe expand our minds,
our thinking, expand our socialconnections, our health, our
perspective on ourselves andproblems we may be processing,

(03:39):
overwhelm we may be feeling.
Awe is a pretty importantthing to get out and
experience, my friend.
And if you didn't notice, Imentioned a lot of nature.
Nature is a place where everyperson can experience awe.
You have other places too,but for a fail safe strategy,

(04:00):
experience nature in someway, shape or form, and you
will find awe my friend.
I'd love to hear how you'refinding awe this week.
Send me an email atkarli@flipsideofmidlife.com
to tell me all about it.
