Hi, my friends! I'm so happy to be back after taking time off to relax and recharge.

This month I'm talking about fear - our limiting beliefs that hold us back, the myths we buy into, how to use fear to our advantage.

Tune into this episode to hear some common myths around fear. Any of them feel familiar?

You're a woman in midlife and beyond, which means you've been through a lot. You're here with life experience and wisdom, and that adds up to having plenty of encounters with fear.

Send me your thoughts and feedback at karli@flipsideofmidlife.com. I'd love to hear from you and answer your questions on an upcoming episode.

Hi there, my friends.

(00:01):
It's me.

Life and Wellness Coachand Community Builder for
women in midlife and beyond.
I have been on a bit of ahiatus and I'm so excited to
be back here with you today.
You are probably gonnanotice some differences from

(00:23):
last season of the podcast.
After having some time tothink and do some creative
brainstorming, during mytime off, I decided to make
a few tweaks here and there.
So let me know if younotice what they are.
karli@flipsideofmidlife.com,you know I always
love to hear from you.

(00:45):
This month, October.
I wanna talk about fear.
I wanna dig into how we believelimiting beliefs around fear.
About the myths that we buyinto, how we can bust through
those, how we can see fearas our friend, how we can

(01:06):
use fear to our advantage, and how we can realize how
incredibly brave we are.
I mean, you're a woman inmidlife and beyond, right?
You've been through a lot.
You're here withlife experience.
You're here with gainedwisdom, and that is not by

(01:28):
letting fear rule your life.
Yes, it crops up.
That is perfectly normal,my friend, but you can learn
to make fear your ally.
This episode today, I wannabust through some of the
common myths around fear.
I hope you'll continue to joinme all month as these episodes

(01:52):
build on top of one another.
Let's dive into the episode.
Fear gets a badrap, in my opinion.
Fear can be intimidating, but fear can also be a really
beneficial tool if we knowhow to notice it and use it

(02:13):
for what it is, information.
So here are some ofthe most common myths
Myth number one,fear equals weakness.
I think you can argueagainst this myth, my friend.
Fear does not make you weak.
Fear makes you a human being.
Yes, we all have fear andit doesn't make us weak.

(02:37):
It can in fact makeus quite strong.
Fear means we'rehardwired for survival.
That's what it is.
That parasympathetic nervoussystem response that comes
up when you feel fear.
How is it in you?
Think about that for a moment.
For me, I definitely noticethat faster heart rate.

(03:01):
I notice the shorter breathpatterns, and I'm certainly
not thinking very clearly.
I know that when Iam feeling fearful.
I need to take a few deepbreaths and really step
back to recognize what itis that I'm feeling and what
it is that I'm thinking.

(03:22):
Now, the benefit of having thatfight or flight reaction, my
friend, is that your body ispreparing itself to respond.
Not always the best for uswhen we're trying to make
decisions or we're in a placewhere we need to just take a
moment to check our emotions.
So bust that myth offear equals weakness.

(03:44):
Fear can be a really bigbenefit in those situations.
It can be a helpful toolwhen you're feeling scared to
notice that this is important.
And I need to take a momentso that I am sure I'm
responding the way I want to.
Myth number two, youshould get rid of fear.
You should eliminate it.

(04:05):
it's not up to us toeliminate fear, my friend.
It's to notice itfor what it is.
Information coming our way.
It's a signal to us.
Fear is to be learnedfrom, and here you are
in midlife and beyond.
You've already done a lot oflearning around your fear.
Look at the information, understand it for what it is,

(04:26):
and use it to your advantage.
Myth number three, successfulpeople have no fear.
Oh, this is definitely not true.
Every single person has fear.
Maybe you've heard me say beforethat fearless is not my favorite
word, and it's definitely not.
I try to remove it from mypersonal vocabulary because I

(04:48):
see fearless as really a lie.
Fearless is the myth.
We all have fear.
Some people are more.
Adaptable.
Some people are more opento what that fear means
for them, and that's wherea little bit of practice,

(05:09):
a little bit of reflectioncan help you understand
what fear is telling you.
Myth number four.
Fear is bad.
Fear is normal.
Fear can be your friend.
Fear can help you.
Fear is information comingyour way and helps you decide
how to act, how to go forward.

(05:31):
These are importantthings, especially in
midlife and beyond.
How is it a good thing in yourlife and how can it help you
move to where you want to be?
I encourage you to thinkabout these different myths.
Did one of theseflash in your mind?
The thing is that rationallywe understand that fear is

(05:55):
normal, that everyone feelsit, that it's not bad, that
it's not something thatwe need to eliminate, but
our irrational minds don'talways remember those things.
Knowing what your cuesare, what your limiting
beliefs are around fear, and how they hold you back.
That is the start, my friend.

(06:16):
Your own personal myth bustingaround fear can help you loosen
those ties that hold you back.
The fear coming in is a neutralsign to pay attention to
what is being sent your way.
What signals arecoming your way.
You know you better thananyone else, my friend, and you

(06:40):
have that inner knowing thattells you what is happening.
Now, of course, your fearcan be very beneficial in
situations when your safetyis at risk, and those are not
times when you question it.
Those are times when you actand you respond immediately
in the way that your body ispreparing you for, not something

(07:00):
to talk yourself out of.
So remember, my friend, yoursubconscious and your body
are sending you signals thatyour conscious mind may not be
registering, and it's up to youto decipher that difference.
My friend, fear isthe topic for October.
I hope you will continueto show up here in the

(07:20):
different episodes.
Send me your feedback,karli@flipsideofmidlife.com.
I wanna know what yourcommon fears are, what your
challenges with fear are.

breakthroughs when itcomes to fear this month?
