Speaker 3 (01:20):
World, and welcome to a special conversation with the Sportster.
My name is Adam Bernard. Thank you so much for
joining me again today. My guests can be seen each
and every week on Friday Night SmackDown on the USA Network,
Monday Night Raw on Netflix, and will also be starring
in the Netflix original series WWE Unreal, premiering July twenty ninth.
The former Women's United States Champion and our true President
of these United States WWE superstar Chelsea Green, thank you

(01:43):
so much for joining me.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
How are you?

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Beautiful?

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Intro just the way the first ever, longest, reigning, most
dangerous United States Women's Champion deserves to be introduced.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
And you know also too, I want to do all
the top here. I want to make sure I address
and salute you properly. I don't generally have dignitaries of
your stature on my program. Often the salute works for you.
Just fine, perfect, absolutely perfect. Thank you so much for
blessing us. Do you want to talk about WWE Unreal?
I know there's been a lot of talk about this
pulling back of the curtain into the world of both

(02:14):
WWE and professional wrestling. What was your initial reaction about
hearing the premise of this Netflix original series.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
I mean, I was excited because I love reality TV.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
I love pulling back the curtain.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
I'm one of those people where when I watch a
murder mystery, I'm going and reading all about the case. I'm,
you know, watching a movie and I'm looking up what
the characters do in real life. So like, I'm pulling
back the curtain every single day for all the shows
I'm watching.

Speaker 4 (02:42):
And then on top of that, I've been very open.
You know, There's been no curtain in.

Speaker 5 (02:48):
My life to pull back because for ten years I've
let you guys in on on my life, my marriage,
my family, everything. So it felt obvious for me to
do this. It was easy.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Now you get a pretty spectacular quote in the trailer,
and quoting to you correctly, We're getting paid a lot
of money to look like assholes.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I'm okay with that. Do you care to expand on
that a little bit more?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Do you want people to watch the show in order
to get the context of that look.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
I think everyone knows by now that I have found
my niche in being kind of a theater kid, a
comedy actress, a comedy wrestler. So I feel like, basically
what that means to me is, I don't care.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
What you tell me to do. I'm going to run
the play.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
If the play needs to be run, I'm gonna run it.
And you know you got to You gotta tune in
on July twenty ninth to see what I'm saying that about. Now.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
I spent some time in a former life with around
the Jackass guys, the Cky guys, and I remember them
talking a lot about the invasiveness of the cameras, not
just while not while they were like recording the actual show,
but just in the general minu show of their everyday life.
Was there anything during this process that made you like,
oh crap, this is really overwhelming, like can you give
me a minute?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
You know?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Or was the process as straightforward as some of the things.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
You do with WWE each week.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
If I was trying to hide part of my life,
it would be overwhelming.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
But because I just allowed myself to be one hundred
and seven percent me without any filters, And I told
them that, Like when they called me and asked me
if I wanted to do it, I said absolutely, but
I'm not filtering myself. So that means that you'll have
to if you want me filtered, you're going to have
to do that in post production. But honestly, Omaha Productions

(04:40):
and the team, like Chris Weaver, the producer, the director, they.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Were all so amazing and kind of became my friends.

Speaker 5 (04:49):
And I am just an open book by nature, so
once I got to know them, I mean, there was
really nothing I needed to kind of hide.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Now, my daughter Sophie is a huge fan of yours.
She just loves what you do each every week on TV.
She never misses one of your matches. I think I
realized for the first time when I saw her do
the you know, the the you know with a ton
of attitude. By the way, with it's Chelsea the whole nine,
it's unbelievable. I'll send it to you because it's really crazy.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I will. Yeah, that was.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
The really the first time where I was like, oh
my god, this like Chelsea's taking off, Like this is
really a big deal. When did you realize that the
new persona that you had incorporated into your work was
really getting over And do you have a chance to
explore that in this Netflix series.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
I think that that is there's a lot of negativity
around social media. But I think that that social media
showed me that. It showed me like, oh, my fandom
is growing. People are are making my skirts, they're buying
my hats, They're you know, wearing my merch, They're doing this,

(05:57):
They're bringing American flags to show. Was like, all of
that stuff was really mind blowing because it's taken me
forever to get here, you know, and I've had a
ton of different characters, but I've never held onto a
character long enough for people to grasp and then emulate.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
So that was really interesting.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
I don't know if you see that in Unreal, but
you see that on my social media because I do
try to post it whenever I'm at meet and greets.
If their people dresses me bet, I will be taking
a photo of you to show my husband later that
night and post on social media.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
I love it. I absolutely love it.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
I'll make sure I send you the video of Sophie
because she's very pay for practicing.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Oh, what's one thing you want people to remember like
before watching ww Unreal and what's one thing you want
people to take away from the series about the life
of being a WWE superstar.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
I mean, I think the most important thing for me
is just that people understand the grind of professional wrestling.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
I feel like there's so much respect surrounding.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
Professional sports, especially men in professional sports. The NFL, the NBA,
the MLB, like whatever, the NHL.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
But we don't have an off season, right.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
We are doing exactly what they do except for bigger
crowds on live television with huge viewerships huge. We are
competing with the NFL for the top viewership and we're
doing that three hundred and sixty five days a year.
We don't get off season. We don't get to, you know,

(07:34):
have the All Star Week where we take two weeks
off and go to the Bahamas. I would love that,
but we don't. We are working, Chelsea. That sounds amazing, right, yeah, right,
we are working twenty four seven and even on my
off days, I'm sitting here chatting with you because like,
this is my whole life, and every single WB superstar

(07:55):
we give one hundred and twenty percent all the time.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
So I just hope that I hope that people see.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
That from unreal now, you know, on top of being
obviously the President of the United States, as we've acknowledged
at the top which we always should. Thank you very much,
chir And of course, and the star of the Netflix
original series. Are there any other Netflix series that you
would like to star in or maybe become involved in.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
I would love to host some Netflix shows.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Look, if there's.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
A Netflix Christmas movie that they want me to star in,
I will go.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
I'll do it.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Tis my arm, I'll do it.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
I'll do it, rich my rubber arm, I'll do it.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
But I think I think my journey within also staying
as a wrestler, I would love to explore hosting. And
ww gave me the chance to interview Anna Darmis for
the new John Wick movie Ballerina.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
It was, oh my gosh, it was thrilling. It was scary.
I had never done anything like that before. I was
learning something new. I was so nervous, but it sparked
something in me. So, you know, Netflix, if you want
me to host a little, you know, little love reality
TV show, I'm here.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
I was gonna say, there's people on here that can help.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
So if you're listening, y'all, please tweet and let's get
this campaign started, because I'm about it. I want to
ask you about evolution. You know you're part of the
Battle Royal. You were a huge part of it, actually
instrumental in that. How excited were you not just to
see this premium live event come back, but also to
be such an integral part of it.

Speaker 5 (09:30):
I mean, we waited seven years to get a second Evolution,
so I think the girls felt a lot of pressure,
but we were so excited and it was time. I
don't necessarily think we need to bring Evolution back as
an annual pay per view because I think it's special.
I think it holds like a certain amount of meaning.
But I love the fact that when we did bring

(09:52):
it back, we had a whole new roster of girls.
We had all new NXT girls, all new SmackDown and
Raw girls, we had Nikki Bella. It was just the
energy of that day was so special, not even just
in the crowd, that the adrenaline coming from the crowd,
and just like the specialness of the people.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Sitting in those seats.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
But backstage, we're all very supportive of each other, and
it's cool to watch our storylines culminate in a pay
per view like Evolution. To watch Trish and Tiffy, that's
really cool.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
That's a moment that a lot of us would kill
to have. And I was really really proud of Tiffany.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
I think she's doing an amazing job as a champion,
and to be that young and to be that early
on in her wrestling career and to be wrestling a
legend and holding her own I think it's amazing.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Absolutely. Now you mentioned Nikki Belly.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
You got to wrestle her in her first singles match
in many years on Netflix, which is fabulous. Talk to
me about that experience. And then, also, because I know
that you are a big fan of the Divas era,
is there anybody else from that time that you'd like
to face off with sometime soon?

Speaker 4 (10:57):
Oh? How long do you have?

Speaker 3 (10:59):
As long as you you all let us know. We
can hang out all day if you want.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Oh I would.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
I would take on any diva I could. I mean,
I love I love them all.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
That's who I grew up.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
Watching, and that is that that is the type of
wrestler that I want to emulate. I think their storylines
were hilarious. I think they were so full of like
pizzazz and sassiness.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
I think they were beautiful. Their gear was fun.

Speaker 5 (11:23):
I love wearing gear like that is reminiscent of that era,
and so to be trusted with Nicky's first match back
that was really really special, And I don't know if
there's many moments in my career that could top that.
You know, I'm so thankful that Triple H and the
creative team trusted me with that.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
But more importantly, I'm so grateful.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
That Nicki Bella trusted me with that because after seven
years and having a baby and taking time off and
and you know, breaking her neck, that must be extremely
traumatizing to get back in the ring and performing of
millions of people.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
And she did amazing. I mean, look, I would have
loved to kick her ass and win, but it didn't
go my way. But that's okay.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
She had her moment, she had her little fifteen minutes
of fame, and now I'll be back.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
I was gonna say, there's always there's listen, we have
SummerSlam coming up, because but I think there's somebody else
you have to talk to first at SummerSlam, which is
coming up next weekend from MetLife Stadium.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Cardi B.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
You've had a lot of exchanges back and forth with Carti.
I know recently you tweeted about you and Michael Jordan,
which of course, obviously is is two legends.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
In the photo. I couldn't see the difference.

Speaker 3 (12:35):
I don't know why anybody else didn't, right, and Carty
had some crosswords to say, effectively saying she didn't see
you that way. Do you care to give an official
response to CARTI be ahead of next week? And do
you think she'll accept your challenge? It's been long standing
now for a pretty good period of time.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
I believe I challenged her like four years ago.

Speaker 6 (12:54):
At this point, it's been a long time, right, So
at this point she's all talked, no action, but I've
got my gear albeit SummerSlam, CARDI if you want to,
if you want to, I mean.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
You're gonna be there. So if you want to hop
in the ring with me, you're more than welcome to.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
That'sten I'm saying. The fans want to see it. People
want to see this, So I'm about it. So uh
I read recently too. I know we're talked a little
bit about women's wrestling here as well. There was a
report a little while back from the Associated Press. I'm
talking about high school girls that are having a larger
presence and amateur wrestling.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Is that something that you think can be attributed.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
To professional women's professional wrestling, And do you think that
bodes well for the future of women's wrestling specifically, as
like WWE starts to grow the ID programs.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Yeah, but I don't think it's necessarily just because of
professional wrestling. I think it's also women in sports. I mean,
look at soccer. Soccer has taken off, and rugby now
women's rugby has taken off. The WNBA is every every
women's sports now are just crushing it. So I'm proud

(14:00):
of just overall women in sports. And I can't wait
to see in like five to ten years those girls
who were in you know they were they were wrestling
in high school for their team. I can't wait to
see if they hop on over to NXC. I think
it'll be really exciting. I mean, the talent is insane.
It's insane. People are doing things that only superheroes and

(14:23):
movies could do, and now they're doing it in real life,
on live television, in front of our own eyes. And
truly I'm shocked, considering I can't even do a cartwheel.

Speaker 4 (14:33):
It's shocking. I don't know how they do it, but
God bless them well.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
If it makes you feeling better. I can't do a
cart while I'm been able to do it since I
was ten, It's probably probably would be pretty ugly if
I did it in public.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
So we're gonna just we'll leave that between us.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Okay, But you've you've had a really remarkable trajectory in
your career, coming back to WWE and really elevating to
really top of the card. If there's one piece of
advice that you could give yourself, maybe to your younger
self or somebody else that's struggling with their path, maybe
following us some or path that you did, what would
that be.

Speaker 5 (15:05):
I think the interesting thing about where I am right
now is that I'm taking a moment to realize that
what makes me special and unique in this business is
not actually where I am right now in the niche
I've kind of put myself in. It's actually the journey
that got me here. You know, all of the fans have,
they've paid attention for ten years. They know that I

(15:27):
started at Vancouver and I wrestled for ten to twenty
people every night. They know that I struggled to get
on tough enough that I struggled to get visas to
live in America that I, you know, wrestled for Shimmer
and was a part of a tag team that I
went to TNA that I wanted a title when I
had no right winning a title.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
I was so new and they still supported me.

Speaker 5 (15:51):
And then they supported me through all In and Luca
Underground and NXT and now I'm here and I just
want to scream from the rooftops, like the journey is
so much more important than the end goal.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
It's so good to have goals. Obviously, of course you
always want.

Speaker 5 (16:10):
To set goals and you want to manifest in and
think positively and everything. But at the end of the day,
like all those speed bumps are what makes the story
unique to you, and that is what when.

Speaker 4 (16:21):
You have your moment, your.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Time to shine, when you have your your winning the
United States Championship in Long Island in front of your
friends and family, everyone is cheering for you because of
the previous ten years that they rode with you on this.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Ride for It's a great answer. I love it. It's fantastic,
And what else is going to be fantastic?

Speaker 3 (16:43):
Is WWE Onreal debuts July twenty ninth, exclusively on Netflix.
Don't Forget SummerSlam is coming from MetLife Stadium August second
and third.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
So check that out on Peacock as well.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Don't forget to check out Monday Night Row each and
every week live on Netflix and Friday Night SmackDown on
the USA Network. Check your local listings for star times
on both. Chelsea Green. Thank you for your time, Madam President.
We appreciate you. I'll look forward to talking to you again.

Speaker 4 (17:08):

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
