Here is your host, Adam Barnard.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Peace World, and welcome back to another exclusive conversation for
the Takedown on SI. My name is Adam Barnard. Thank
you so much for joining me again today. My guest
is the current NXT North American Champion. It's getting ready
to face Obafemi in a rematch for that title at
Halloween Havoc this Sunday, the Dawn of NXT.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Tony DiAngelo. How are you, sir, Adam?

Speaker 5 (02:17):
Thank you for having me.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
I'm doing great, you know, like you said, getting ready
for this Sunday, so it should be a good one.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
I'm looking forward to at Halloween Havoc is my one
of my favorite premium live events of the year. A
big fan from WCW love that it's back in NXT. Recently,
it was just reported that you requested the Spin the
Wheel make a deal, tables, ladders and scares match. This
is the third time that this has been used in NXT,
and arguably this.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
May be the most gruesome of the three.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Why did you specifically request this and what's your attack
plan for Obafemi this Sunday?

Speaker 6 (02:52):
Well, listen, you know, if I if it was a
normal TLC, you.

Speaker 5 (02:56):
Know, and I ran up the ladder and grabbed the title.

Speaker 6 (03:00):
It just doesn't have that same third on the wound
as Paninem. You know, he took out my family, he
zip tied me to the ring on Tuesday. He's talking
a lot of trash, So you know, I just I
want to heard him.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
Be quite frank with you. And that's pretty much it.

Speaker 6 (03:19):
As far as a game plan, again, I'm looking forward
to hurt them.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
That's a good enough answer, is any man. This is
going to be a This is going to be a
very I feel like violent match. I'm very very much
looking forward to watching this feed run back. Now, as
far as the North American title goes, you joined a
murderer's row of NXT names and talents who have held
this title. How did it feel for you to be
added to that list and what was that moment like
for you when you finally captured that title.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
I think it was I think it was special to be,
you know, have my name itched in North American Championship history.
Really cool to join the list of names that have
held this title before.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
And you know, when I got it, it just it
felt great. You know, it was a special moment for
me and my family.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
You know, it felt like I, you know, got over
a hurdle in my career and you know, it was
only a matter of time before I got my first
singles championship and I'm excited that it was this one.
So you know, hopefully this opens the door to new opportunities,
and you know, it was just a special moment.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Absolutely. Now the big move, the big move that XT
has just made to the CW. I know that's all
over the news right now. It's a wonderful thing. Love
to see you all performing on that channel. How does
it feel to be one of the champions of the
brand during this brand new time at NXT.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Tell me a little bit more about that.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
It's it's great.

Speaker 6 (04:51):
You know, I'm very fortunate and grateful to be, you know,
a representative of the brand and the company.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
Especially with this big with c W.

Speaker 6 (05:01):
They've been nothing but great to us and uh again
opening up new doors and opportunities for not just me
but the rest of the roster.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
And you know, I'm I'm.

Speaker 6 (05:11):
Going to uh Miami uh to you know, see the
NASCAR and Cole Custer will be out there, and you know,
that's just something that c W is allowing, you know,
our talent to do, and it's it's exciting. You know,
my my face is on a NASCAR. I didn't think
that would be a uh you know, bucket list thing

(05:33):
for me. I didn't think that would ever happen. But
you know, it's pretty cool. I'm not gonna lie, pretty cool.
Uh but yeah, so you know things like that that
c W is letting us do.

Speaker 5 (05:46):
I think it's great for the brand, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
I I don't know how I would feel in that
moment when I see my I would see myself on
a on a NASCAR, like it would probably be like, wow,
this is pretty sweet, but like certainly potentially a bucket
li but not something that you're like, you know what
I mean, Like I never.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Would have thought about it, but it's got to be
pretty wild.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
You know, growing up you're not like, yeah, you know
I want my face on.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
A NASCAR But but you know, but if it happens,
it's pretty cool.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
You know.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Listen, man, I'm about it, dude, I listen.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
You you could write that down that that'll be in ever, forever,
etched in your career. So that's a that's a pretty
pretty solid accomplishment.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Absolutely, right, I win in the championship.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I was gonna say, it's it's like one A and
one B. I would imagine. Listen, I get it, you know.
So now listen.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I know I'm from Philadelphia. I'm a Philly guy. I
know that NXT is coming to the twenty three hundred
Arena better known as the ECW Arena on November sixth,
the House of Hardcore. As an ECW fan, I gotta know,
is there any potential for some FBI appearances? Uh to
be involved with the D'Angelo family, you know, Big you
got Big Veto, you got Little Guido Nunzio.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yeah, any any talk about this?

Speaker 6 (06:54):
You know, I'm not I'm unable to speak on the
company's half as far as that goes.

Speaker 5 (07:01):
But you know, do I you know, selfishly want that
to happen. Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
I think that would be very cool, you know, especially
with all the history that FBI has in that building,
I think I think it would be great for the
D'Angelo family to, you know, work with the FBI.

Speaker 5 (07:21):
You know, we'll see what nuns Joe's doing. You know,
maybe I'll give him a call, you know, I know
I know a.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
Few guys that he works with, so maybe maybe we
can push something together.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
I don't know, just the I'm just thinking about the
potential of the segments for the FBI and the the
D'Angelo family together would be I mean, you guys would
be printing money, so you know, listen, I'm with it, man,
I would love to see it. I would assume you're
probably gonna step down here at the Italian Market while
you're here. I can recommend Josie's in South Philly or

(07:53):
Ninth and Schunk. It's a family spot, so got to
give credit where credit is due. Do you do you
recommend any good Italian place is in Philadelphia? What's your
favorite place to hit while you're here in Philadelphia?

Speaker 5 (08:03):
You know what, I'll be honest with you.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
I haven't spent a whole lot of time in Philly,
so I'm kind of unfamiliar with the landscape over there.
But if you're in Orlando, there's a spot called Fresco
Kuchina Italia. It's run by this my buddy AJ. Shout
out to AJ. His mother's in the kitchen cooking. They're

(08:26):
from Boston. You know, nice, nice restaurant, family owned food
is delicious, the prices aren't crazy.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
It's it's a great all around feel, you know.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
They got of course, they got Sinatra and Dean Martin
and everybody else playing in the background.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
They got a bunch of wine on the uh, you know.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
On the wall.

Speaker 5 (08:45):
It's great, it's good.

Speaker 6 (08:47):
But I might have to get your number after this
because I'm gonna, you know, I'm gonna need somewhere to
eat and listen.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
I was gonna say, I know all the good places.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
So if you're looking for anything, we'll let hang on
after the call, make sure I get you to all
the right spots here and Filadelphia.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
So absolutely a plethora of spots to stop that.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
But now after Obahamy, obviously we're you know, we're hopeful
that you are victorious in your match this weekend at
Halloween Havock. What do you see next with you in
the North American Championship. Tell me about your vision for
it and where you see you and the family going
from here.

Speaker 6 (09:19):
Well, you know what, first, I'm gonna worry about Oba,
all right, you know, he did what he did and
deserves what he's going to get on Sunday. Uh. And
then after that, you know, maybe I'll celebrate for enjoy
this for a little bit.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
I don't know, I haven't decided.

Speaker 6 (09:36):
Uh, you know, like I said, first singles championship.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
Maybe.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
Actually, you know what I think, first order of business
when I'm done with Oba is uh figuring out who
who took out Rizzo mm hmm. And I think I
think that needs to be handled next because that was
uncalled for clearly their work.

Speaker 5 (09:58):
It did some kind of deal with Oba, and that
needs to be taken care of first and foremost. I'm
not gonna let that slide.

Speaker 6 (10:06):
So I think we're gonna you'll see in the future
somebody's gonna have to catch a whooping for that.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Well, there's nobody better to nobody better to give a
whooping than the d' angelo family, that's for sure.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
My final question for you.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
I know that you know a lot of the NXC
roster talks about the creative feeling, you know, feeling that
they have. I know Baron Corman has mentioned to me
before about just the ability to kind of create and
be a part of that creative process with your character
and and what you do. Tell me more about that,
what it's like to work with Seauan Michaels, what it's
like to work in that space and cultivate this really

(10:40):
amazing story that you've been able to build with the
d Angelo family.

Speaker 6 (10:43):
Yeah, you know, like Sean I said it on a
previous podcast, he's the man.

Speaker 5 (10:50):
He's a genius.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
He knows his business so well, and he's very open
to suggestions. And it's not do as I say, it's
you know, you know, it's collaborative. So you know, if
I ever have something that I think would work, he'll
listen to me, you know, And I've I've definitely earned
that right. I think I've earned his trust over the years,

(11:14):
you know, showing him that I'm gonna work hard and
you know, I'm going to put out the best product
and do what's best for the company. So I think
step one when you get here is proven that you
you know, they can trust you and you can you know,
earn some cash.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
But yeah, it's great, you know, all the writers are great.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
All the you know, every everybody that you work with
is great, and like you said, it's a great collaborative experience.

Speaker 5 (11:41):
And you know, it's uh, it's fun to be an NHT.

Speaker 6 (11:45):
You know.

Speaker 5 (11:46):
I love where I'm at now.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Actually, I know I said that was my last question,
but I do have one more that I have to
ask you. But so, I you know, obviously, at some
point I would imagine, you know, you and the D'Angelo family.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Are going to move to the main roster.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Is there any fact or any superstar in particular you
could see yourself feuding with and who you could see
having a really solid program with.

Speaker 7 (12:08):
You know, as a faction. I think American Made. I
think we could do some magic with those guys. I
think Brazil could have a good match with Ivan Nile
and individually, I think I think bron Breaker, hmmm, I

(12:29):
think we could.

Speaker 6 (12:31):
I think we could mix it up and have some
good wars in the in the squared circle.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
That would be an impressive I know, he just won
that Interconminental championship back from Jay Usso.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
This past week. That's a that'd be a pretty impressive match.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
Man.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
I'm not gonna lie to you. I I kind of
I'm mapping it out in my head as we speak
right now. That would be an incredible run there.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
So he's got the speed, he's got the strength, which
I also have.

Speaker 5 (12:56):
You know, we're both collegiate athletes.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
I also have my family and he's kind of a psychopath, which.

Speaker 5 (13:05):
It kind of matches up. You know, maybe somewhere down
in the future he wants to, you know, do some
business with the D'Angelo family. We'll see you know.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Listen, I'm about it. You heard it here first too
as well on the Takedown. Tony D'Angelo, I want to
thank you so much for your time. Don't forget NXT's
Halloween Havoc is this Sunday, October twenty seventh at the
Giant Center in HERSHEYPA limited amount of tickets are still available,
as well as, from what I understand, the fully sold
out NXT show at the twenty three hundred Arena formerly

(13:35):
the ECW Arena on November sixth.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
You can catch them.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
You can catch that show on the CW check your
local listings. Tony D'Angelo, I want to thank you for
your time, sir, and I look forward to seeing here

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
