Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey folks, this is
your old host, patrick the Alien
.
Welcome to Fractured, where weconfront the ups and downs of
life.
It's like therapy without thecertifications.
Welcome, my friends, to episodenumber three, yet to be titled.
It's smarter for me that way,I've noticed lately.
I'd like to start off with anarticle submitted to me by my
closest friend, who I shallrefer to from now on as Fishbait
(00:24):
.
I've gone to great lengths toverify this story and it's true.
You can fact check it foryourselves.
This gentleman's name was and Iuse that with caution was L dog
(01:00):
sled 1,000 kilometers acrossGreenland's ice cap in the 1910s
, killed a wolf.
Yes, I'm going to have somefamily members and friends make
fun of me for saying that word, because I can't say it properly.
Wolf, with his bare hands, escaped a Nazi death camp at the
(01:20):
height of the Third Reich, amputated his own gangrene toes
with a pair of pliers andstarred in an Oscar-winning
movie which was loosely based onhis own autobiography.
He was also the fifth person towin the jackpot in the game
show, the $64,000 Question.
He published 34 books, foundedtwo adventure clubs and his
(01:44):
biography was called the VagrantViking.
You need more proof.
You say Check this out, friendsand neighbors.
One time he was caught in ablizzard and ended up being
buried alive in an inescapablecocoon of ice, so tightly packed
around him he could barely movearound him.
(02:08):
He could barely move.
After 30 hours trapped in thisbehemoth, he escaped certain
death by molding his own fecesinto a knife and used it to
carve his way out through asolid wall of ice, then crawled
another three hours back to basecamp like something out of
Revenant meets Everest meetsShawshank Redemption.
How about that, boys and girls?
(02:28):
Wasn't that a fun story?
Now, that leaves me in my partin all of this for today.
No sad story.
This I thought I was going togive you my brave heart tale of
what happened over this pastweekend.
But no fish bait.
At the 11th hour, like always, must throw this long bomb and
(02:52):
ruin it.
For me, I had this heroic taleof this brave man who was in
dire agony.
I took matters into his ownhands to solve the problem, and
then this story comes along andmakes me look like a smurf here.
Here, guys, let me tell youwhat happened.
I had this tooth in the back ofmy skull.
(03:15):
It was driving me mad.
Like the outer nebula was safe.
Yes, a normal rational personwould go the route of a dentist,
but I had found they liked toturn it into a three-trip
episode, some pocket money andmore grief than I had time for.
(03:38):
So I went another route.
I chose a more sensiblesolution.
I chose to go out to the garage, grab a pair of pliers and,
before you say anything, it wasa brand new pair of pliers,
never been used.
I took a long, deep breath, took a couple of wiggles back
(04:03):
and forth and then I made a yank.
Yeah, I went to the ground, almost blacked out, but the
tooth came out and I feel muchbetter now.
Thank God it's out.
But that's my story of adversity.
Maybe you've guessed thesubject matter.
(04:29):
Yeah, it's adversity.
The definition of adversity isa state of instance, of
continued difficulty ormisfortune.
I know it was, and still is, amajor factor in my life.
I thought it'd be a good topicof discussion.
(04:49):
By now.
You know a little about me.
You can guess I've had my fairshare of adversity.
I don't really want to go downthat dark alley today, if that's
okay with you guys.
Adversity can come in many ways, shapes and sizes Physical,
mental, emotional, social,spiritual, financial.
(05:09):
We should remember, though, that through it, virtually, we
can grow stronger, moreresilient.
It can even help us develop newskills to be better and to
perform in this crazy world thatwe're part of.
A side note, just a minute.
(05:31):
I wasn't going to do thisoriginally, but if we're going
to talk about adversity, youneed to hear a better story that
rings much closer to home andmeans much more to this sappy
old alien.
I'm just going to give you ashort version for now.
I'll give you more on anepisode in the future.
(05:53):
Maybe my champion, my underdog,my hero, my daughter Skeletor.
Nobody knows adversity like her.
My hero, my daughter SkeletorNobody knows adversity like her,
not even the great vagrantViking.
(06:15):
She almost died at birth.
Her intestines were backing upinto her lungs.
She was born with cysticfibrosis.
It was 1989.
They had told us probably shewould not live long.
They gave us a list of possibleside diseases that she could
possibly get over time with CF.
(06:37):
Our daughter got them all Liverdisease, diabetes, nasal polyps
, gerd, allergies to mold.
She wound up having twoseparate double lung transplants
.
One of the lung transplants shegot wound up having cancer in
it.
She had to battle cancer, beatit.
(07:00):
She fights every day.
She was told she would nevergraduate high school.
She wound up being dualenrolled in high school.
She graduated high school withhigh honors.
She went on to graduate collegewith honors.
She fights adversity to thisday.
(07:26):
She's in the gym every day.
She ignores the expiration dategiven to her.
She is a one-of-a-kind hero.
She's a pain in my butt, butshe's one-of-a-kind and friends.
That's what overcomingadversity is all about's.
(07:47):
That's really where I want tostop for the day when it comes
to adversity.
Now moving on for some good news, folks.
The year was 1961.
Ed Dwight had hoped to be thefirst black astronaut in space,
(08:08):
but he was not picked.
Now, at 90 years, young Dwightwas finally going to get his
chance to experience space onboard Blue Origin's upcoming
mission to Earth's atmosphere.
Dwight was selected byPresident John F Kennedy in 1961
to enter an Air Force trainingprogram known as the Path to
(08:28):
NASA's Astronaut Program.
He was picked now to go onboard Blue Origin's upcoming
mission.
You must know, of course, thatthis is a big deal.
He's 90 years old.
He's going to get to goexperience an onboard Blue
(08:51):
Origins mission into Earth'satmosphere.
That's a big deal, folks.
I'm very happy for him.
If you have good news.
Please share it with me.
I would love to share as muchgood news as possible.
Now upcoming my favorite part.
You must know by now Of courseyou don't know because I have no
(09:15):
structure to this show it'stime for Pat's Ponders.
I have three this week.
Number one if 75% of allaccidents happen within five
miles of home, why not move 10miles away?
Huh, ever think of that?
Number two what happens if youget addicted to therapy?
(09:36):
How's it treated?
Hmm, and drum roll, please.
Number three have you evernoticed when you blow on a dog's
face, he gets mad at you, butthe first thing he does when you
put him in the car is stick hishead out the window.
And those are my ponders fortoday.
Folks, if you have some pondersyou'd like to share with me,
(09:59):
please send them to me.
This week's ponders were notmine.
I stole them all from online, from various sites.
Like I said, if you have someponders you'd like to share with
me, please send them to me.
We're going to move on to thealiens' picks for TVs and movies
(10:19):
.
This week I didn't have a lotgoing on in TV this week.
I have a few picks.
I was interested in adocumentary I caught, called
(10:41):
Till Murder, do Us Part.
It was on Netflix, a three-partseries.
A couple was murdered.
A young girl and her boyfriendwere arrested for it.
It was a he said, she saidthing.
They both confessed and thenthey both turned on each other,
(11:04):
and then you stay confused allthe way through it.
It was something like I'd neverseen before, though it was
really really quite interesting,quite intriguing.
I think you would enjoy that.
I went on to see the Roast ofTom Brady on Netflix.
It's pretty much exactly whatyou think it would be.
(11:25):
It was raunchy, kind of funny.
I'd give it about a six.
I would say he was paid $25million by Netflix to let people
dog him.
You know about his ex-wifecheating on him, so you know you
have to give him credit and hegot paid well for it.
(11:45):
So what do you expect?
Number three I have not seenyet, but I've heard a lot of
good things from a lot of people.
It's called Dark Matter onApple TV.
Like I said, I have not seen itmyself, but I've been told good
things, so I'm going to startwatching that this week.
I look forward to seeing thatNow.
On the movies.
(12:05):
I look forward to seeing that.
Now on to movies.
My wife and I went to see twomovies in the past week.
The two movies we went to seeare the Fall Guy and Kingdom of
the Planet of the Apes, andthese are my two reviews.
We will start with the Fall Guy.
(12:26):
Fall Guy, I would rather dragmy naked body belly down through
multiple piles of Florida fireramp beds than have to be
subjected to that kind oftorture again.
It was like trying.
If it was trying to be a comedy, it failed.
If it was trying to be anaction movie, it failed.
If it was trying to be aromantic comedy, it also failed.
(12:47):
If it was trying to be anaction movie, it failed.
If it was trying to be aromantic comedy, it also failed.
The last 10 minutes of themovie were worth watching and
that was it.
And this movie was actuallyfilmed.
The director was an ex-stuntman.
It just it didn't work on anylevel whatsoever.
This movie just it was hideous.
(13:09):
This movie was just bad allover.
I mean just terrible.
I'm sorry to say that, becauseI was really looking forward to
it.
There was just nothing there.
Now, moving on Kingdom of thePlanet of the Apes, I'm going to
try to give an unbiased reviewof this, because anybody that
(13:30):
knows me knows that I'm a Planetof the Apes geek.
I have been ever since I was akid.
Anything that has to do withPlanet of the Apes I can tell
you frontwards and backwardsabout Lunchboxes, tv shows,
movies, masks, anything Iabsolutely love and adore.
And a little fun fact thedirector of this movie graduated
(13:57):
from the tiny little ruraljunior senior high school that
this alien attended and I'mgoing gonna announce it to you
just because I'm that proud ofit crescent city junior senior
high school of crescent city,florida.
(14:17):
And when I tell you it's tiny,I mean it's tiny.
It's a rural junior-senior highschool in the woods.
Basically, I mean it is tiny,it's little.
He went on to graduate fromFlorida State University, which
is his only downfall.
I mean he should have went tothe University of Florida and
(14:42):
became a chomper, you know.
But you know he can't haveeverything in the world.
This movie takes place manygenerations in the future, well
past Caesar, and deals with thecontinued conflict between apes
and men and apes and apes andwhat they have learned and will
they advance.
(15:02):
I enjoyed it.
I'd probably give it about aneight.
I thought it was pretty good.
I really liked the way theyenjoyed it.
I'd probably give it about aneight.
I thought it was pretty good.
I really liked the way theyfilmed it.
You know I really enjoyed thatmovie.
I thought that was really worthwatching.
If you have movies that you'veseen or TV shows, please once
again send them in to me.
Let me know about it.
(15:23):
This only works with your help.
We're going to move on to bookreviews, something a little
different.
This time.
I decided to take a look atthings through a woman's
perspective, so the reviews willbe courtesy of two women.
I appreciate one being theDominator, the other one being
(15:43):
Freckles.
First up is one of three booksrecommended by Freckles, who, by
the way, is mother of my oneand only grandson, known here on
the podcast for now on as Poe.
Coming up as number one is thePersonal Librarian by Marie
(16:05):
Benedict.
This book is a non-fictionaccount of the personal
librarian to John D Rockefellerno-transcript.
I look forward to going throughthat myself.
Hopefully I can find that in anaudible version.
(16:28):
Second up from Freckles is theWoman by Kristen Hanna.
This book is an account of anurse who served in Vietnam and
is about what she saw there, howshe was treated by the soldiers
there and by the public whenshe came home.
(16:49):
This is a different take on theVietnam story.
This also should be a very goodread.
And the third book from Frecklesis Little Liars by an author I
know very well, mitch Albom.
He's a great author.
This book is about a youngJewish boy during the roundup in
(17:18):
World War II.
He is befriended by a Germansoldier who is tricked, or
convinced, to help him get theJews on the trains and you know
and of course by now you knowwhere they went.
Later on it's about how he hasto deal with it.
That also should be a good read.
(17:38):
And the last but least on mybook reviews is from the
Dominator, and this is fromDavid Baldacci, and the book is
the Winner.
And this book is about a dirtpoor young mother who has been
given the opportunity guaranteedto win a $100 million jackpot
(18:02):
and all she must do is changeher identity and leave the
country.
But of course there's a lotmore to the story.
That sounds like an interestingread as well.
These all sound like good booksto read.
It should give you something tolook forward to.
Also, just like everything else, share what you have what you
(18:22):
got on your bookshelves.
You know what you're readingright now.
I'd be curious to find out whateverybody's looking at right
now.
We're going to move on to musicand, just like our books, I did
something a little differentthis time.
I changed it up and I got someoutside help.
(18:44):
I sure hope you like this partof the podcast.
I'm having some fun with it.
This episode is no different.
I tried something different,you know.
So shout outs to the Dominatorand Skeletor for their input.
I take no credit or blame forthese, but please, you know,
(19:05):
look these up, take a listen tothem.
Tell me what you think.
Like always share your list withthe alien Number one Adele.
Easy on Me.
Number two Beyonce and MileyCyrus.
Two Most Wanted Number three wehave an oldie.
(19:28):
It's Styx Snowblind.
Number three we have a new onefor you to look up.
It's by Oliver Tree, alien Boyand I myself.
I have a dedication to someonewho has been on my mind a lot
(19:49):
these last two weeks, one of myfavorite people in the world and
he's really been on my heart alot.
This one's for Poe.
I hope you discover this oldiefor yourself.
You may find it a little hokey, but he loves this song and I
just wanted to throw it on thelist.
(20:10):
It's from Marty Robbins, bigIron.
I love you, poe.
I would like to say thank you toa special fan up there in New
Hampshire who we will refer toas the giver.
I received an unexpectedpackage in the mail last week.
(20:32):
It was my first piece ofappreciation mail.
It was a UFO and a new headfrom my collection Almost
brought this alien down to threeknees, if you will.
You know this alien has threeknees.
I was a bit slimy, to say theleast.
Thank you so much.
(20:53):
I've always been your biggestfan.
Now a free bit of localadvertising for some hardworking
ladies on Facebook.
First I'd like to throw out toJerrica Conger, who owns Hidden

This is basically a blind bookclub.
It's quite an interesting idea.
(21:15):

You can find her on Facebook.
Check her out.
Next we have Mary JaneKnowles-Hilton.
She makes custom tumbler cups.
(21:37):
Yeah, a lot of people make them, but she's fast, and every time
I've come up with a crazy ideafor a cup she always finds the
design that I say, I just comeup with the words and she finds
the design and she has reallygood deals on multiple cups.
(21:57):
So I encourage you to look herup.
That's Mary-Jane Knowles Hilton.
She's also on Facebook.
Again, I don't get any moneyfor this.
