Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey folks, this is
your host, patrick the Alien.
You know, the one with thebrain trauma.
This is where we confront theups and downs of life.
It's like therapy, without allthose silly licenses and
certifications.
I thought maybe we're going totry something a little different
today.
I know we said we never discusspolitics, but how about
(00:21):
patriotism?
But how about patriotism?
Not politics per se, left andright, not red and blue, but I
think maybe we need to have adiscussion.
A few days before the shootingthat happened, just by
(00:46):
coincidence, I had put a post upon Facebook about something
that had happened here in thestate of Florida.
There's going to be vendingmachines placed in the town next
to where I live that are goingto carry ammunition Deltona, to
(01:08):
be precise, and then DeLand.
We live in a funny littlecommunity.
This is Orange City.
We live in what's called theFour Towns District.
It's DeBerry, orange City, deland and Deltona.
It's always been called theFour Towns area.
They're kind of interlockedbetween each other, always been
referred to as the four townsarea, and florida has been
(01:35):
changing over the years.
We're definitely a conservativestate and you know that's fine.
We're not.
We're not talking aboutpolitics today.
I'm just saying it's aconservative state, it's
definitely conservative.
And they decided that they'regoing to go ahead and have
(02:04):
vending machines placed instores and I guess they're going
to go in grocery stores.
So I just I put the question outthere on Facebook and I'm just
(02:27):
curious what the response wouldbe of people, how they felt
either side.
I didn't want either side, Ididn't want argument, I didn't
want debates, and I asked it inthat way.
I said please just give me yourthoughts on the subject.
Either way, I don't care, Idon't have a dog in the fight.
As some of you may know or maynot know, I served in the
military.
(02:47):
I'm one of four brothers whoproudly served in the military.
I was a gun owner.
I do not own a gun at this time.
I was diagnosed with bipolardepression.
I take four different types ofmedication for my bipolar my own
(03:09):
personal choice, no one else'sand I was not asked to or forced
to.
I gave up my handgun for my ownpersonal choice, because of my
condition.
I felt it was the smartest andsafest thing for me to do.
No one told me to, no oneadvised me to.
(03:30):
That was my own personal choice.
Again, that was for me, and meonly.
I'm not telling anybody else todo it.
I'm not advising anybody elseto do it.
That was for me and me only.
So there again, I have nodollar in that fight either.
So, uh, I put the question outthere.
(03:52):
I I think I've probably gotabout 25 responses.
A couple people chose to go intothe heated debate.
I simmered it down as best as Icould.
For the most part there waspretty good response to it, I
thought on both sides.
It was quite interesting.
I researched it the best Icould.
(04:15):
The owners of the company itactually been out for some time
in Oklahoma.
They're moving into Texas,alabama.
There's a couple of otherstates that are interested in
Oklahoma, I think it they wantto go into Kentucky.
It's quite interesting theconcept that they're they're
(04:39):
looking into.
It's an ID system and creditcard system.
You have to have a valid ID anda credit card.
It will be inside of buildings, not outside three-layered steel
buildings anchored in theconcrete.
They're doing, I guess, thebest Safety-wise they can.
(05:02):
Again, I'm not endorsing thecompany or knocking the company.
No dog in the fight.
I'm just giving information.
I don't want to sound like I'm acritic or endorsing.
I'm just giving information andI just want you to be informed.
That's all.
That's all, and that was goingto be my topic and my only topic
(05:27):
for today.
I want to talk about that firstbecause it was interesting to
me and, like I said, that wasbefore the shooting.
So I want to start with thatbecause I find it to be an
interesting topic and as I wasresearching that, there was
(05:48):
things I didn't I didn't knowbecause I said, okay, this is
going to be a heated, heatedsubject.
I said a lot of people aregoing to be riled up about this.
I thought, and then I got tolooking into it and I go well,
this is interesting, but if somepeople are going to be mad
about being able to buyammunition and machines and
(06:09):
grocery stores because that'swhere they want to go they want
to go and that's where they arenow is in grocery stores the
people are going to be mad aboutthis.
This is going to really makepeople angry.
And did you know that any kidnow can say that they're 21
years old and order 2,000 roundsof ammunition over the internet
(06:32):
?
Now it's very possible to dothat.
You can lie about your age andorder ammunition off the
internet right now.
Very easy to don't know.
I didn't know if you were awareof that I was doing my research
(06:52):
for on this subject.
So if you're all wound up aboutthis one, you should get more
wound up about that.
At least these guys are tryingand, like I said, I'm not
supporting one way or the other, but at least they're doing a
little bit of safety.
So you might want to do alittle bit of research on things
(07:16):
before you get too worked up.
So there's that.
On the other hand, I'm aproduct of the 70s.
I can remember cigarettemachines and I remember what we
did with cigarette machines.
(07:36):
We got rid of them becausepeople didn't like it.
So I kind of wonder why we'rebringing ammunition machines
back.
I also see I talked to some gunowners and then I looked at some
(07:58):
of the answers that I got backoff of Facebook and I found it
quite interesting from some ofthe gun owners, some of the gun
owners that I've known for along time the hunters and their
answers were the ones thatsurprised me.
Those were the ones that didn'tlike the ideas of them being in
grocery stores.
Those were the ones thatthought that they should be in
hunt clubs and ammo store.
(08:19):
I mean not ammo stores, but gunstores and shooting ranges,
places like that and that madesense to me.
That kind of made more sense tome.
But there again, like I said,I'm you're not asking for my
opinion, I'm just I'm justgiving information.
(08:39):
I understand why people whohave had, who are the parents of
victims, people who have beenvictimized law enforcement might
be wary.
I understand all of that.
I understand why they might beconcerned about the types of
ammunition that might be carried.
(09:00):
I understand why certain gungroups might be leery about
having to give your ID and stuff.
But we have to have some kind ofregulations.
I know we're a country wherepeople don't like regulations,
but we have to have safeguardsdefinitely, and we're about gun
(09:23):
safety.
I mean we have to be.
If you're going to be a gunowner, you have to be a safe gun
hunter.
I mean we must agree on that, don't we?
I mean don't we?
Moved to Louisiana?
Louisiana is a very big huntingstate.
They teach their kids I meanhunting at a very early age.
(09:54):
You know what they taught us inschool at a very early age in
Louisiana Gun safety.
That was in school.
Gun safety was in school.
That's what they taught you.
I remember that and that wasimportant.
You know it's like why wouldn'tit be?
I remember that I believe itwas.
It might have even been the NRAand I'm not saying that I
(10:15):
support the NRA or that I dosupport NRA, but I believe
groups like that came in, youknow, or Ducks Unlimited or
something like that.
They came in and worked withthe kids.
I remember watching documentaryfilms like back in the 50s and
60s they actually had like rifleclubs for kids and teenagers in
(10:39):
middle school that taughtsafety and stuff like that.
Like I'm not a proponent or youknow, there again, don't call me
, you know, sitting on the fenceor a tree hugger or anything
like that.
I'm just giving information andletting you think about you
(11:05):
know what you wanna do with it.
With it you chew the curd, asmy mom would say.
Chew the curd, okay, that wasthat's where I was starting at
today.
And then you know what happened.
Everybody knows what happenedand we're not talking politics,
(11:25):
we're not going to talk writtenbook, we're just not going to do
that.
But it's weighed heavily on methis week.
It's weighed heavily on mebecause I believe in patriotism,
I believe in my country left Imean right or wrong.
(11:46):
No matter who the president is,you have to support the
president, no matter who's inoffice.
And what happened that day waswrong, as wrong can be.
If you don't like that man, then don't like that man, okay.
(12:07):
But he was our president at onetime and he's running for
president again, and that didnot deserve to happen.
No matter what the jokes andmemes are out of character and
out of taste, no matter what.
(12:30):
We are Americans.
We set the standard for theworld, no matter what, what, no
matter what.
It's time to stop the joking.
It's time to stop the screaming.
(12:52):
It's time to stop yelling ateach other's faces.
I'll tell you what it's timefor.
Right after Trump got shot, theman that's going to be his vice
president was accusing the otherside of it.
It's like that's wrong too, andI'm still not playing party
(13:15):
politics.
You don't blame each other forthis, okay, and I admire Trump,
because Trump even said that thepresident called him.
They had a great conversationand and he was he was going to
give a speech of unity.
I admire Trump for that.
(13:37):
I truly believe Trump was, wastruly scared.
I believe that I have no doubtin my mind who wouldn't be.
Who wouldn't be?
I don't believe that.
I would want to continue to rununder that, but he is.
And I didn't say that I'msupporting the man or not
(13:59):
supporting the man.
This is not about politics tome.
Okay, I have no dog in thisfight either.
I am not giving my politicalviews one way or the other.
This podcast is not aboutpolitical views, but I do
believe in patriotism.
(14:21):
Joe Biden is our president.
I believe you need to supportJoe Biden right now.
He is our president.
Whoever is in the office is whoyou support and pray for,
because he is your president, nomatter what.
You always support the ovaloffice, always because that is
(14:42):
your president.
No matter what and like always, you will survive.
They always say, oh, you're notgoing to make it, this is the
end of the world.
It's simply not true.
We always survive.
We're America.
That's what we do.
We've seen hard times.
(15:04):
We'll continue to see hardtimes.
We see recession.
We see good economic growth.
We see trends.
We're America.
It's what we do.
We're stronger for it.
We'll get through Americastrong.
We made it through 9-11.
We made it through Pearl Harborin 41.
(15:28):
We'll just continue to do it.
It's what we are.
It's who we are.
My God, I've never seen thiscountry get tore apart the way
it's being tore apart now.
It makes me want to crysometimes.
We're human beings.
(15:48):
Let's be human, let's be kind.
Sometimes I can't even talk tomy own brothers, you know,
because of our political views.
It saddens me.
It saddens me that the peoplethat I hold dearest in my life,
I sometimes I wonder.
(16:08):
It's like, how could we havebeen raised in the same home
when our political views are sodifferent?
It's like it can't be.
It just can't be.
But you know what?
We're all human beings.
At the end of the day, we'reall created in His image.
(16:29):
Let's do what we're supposed todo Be kind to one another.
It has to be this way, guys.
It has to be.
We brag so much about how greatthis country is.
Well, we're only great if weshow how great we are.
(16:53):
It's not just words on at-shirt, okay, it's not a bumper
sticker.
You can't just say it, you'vegot to be it.
It's that simple.
If you want to be good, you'vegot to be good.
It's just that simple.
It really is, guys.
(17:18):
I don't mean to get on thesoapbox, but this week has been
an emotional rollercoaster forme personally.

(23:00):
hospital sometime.
You count your blessings.
Just know that if you wake upevery day with a roof over your
head and that you ate dinnerlast night, you were better off
than 50% of the world'spopulation.
(23:20):
