Voiceover (00:03):
Tales from the wild, stories from the heart.
A journey into the mind andsoul of fired up business
professionals, where they sharetheir vision for the future and
hear from a different non-profitorganization every month as
they create awareness of theirgoals and their needs.
Dive into a world of untamedpassion as we join our host,

(00:27):
Shireen Botha, for this month'sepisode of Friends from Wild
Places.

Shireen Botha (00:35):
As you know, listeners, friends from Wild
Places, we love to support anon-profit every month.
A non-profit every month.
This is our time to be able toreach out and give a helpline to
someone in need, or to giveways to support your community,
or just ways to put your mind onothers instead of yourself,

(01:00):
because I do think that's thekey in life, especially when it
comes to bringing just beinghappy.
It's to be selfless is to behappy, and if there's a place, a
non-profit, an institution thatyou believe in what they're
doing for their community, Iabsolutely encourage you to

(01:23):
invest your time, your finances, however you can, to make a
difference.
I think that's very important.
So, with that being said, thismonth's nonprofit is going to be
techgirlpowerorg.
We're going to have thatinformation in the show notes,
don't worry.
But, angeline, won't you tellus a little bit about this

(01:46):
organization, how we can supportit and, more importantly, what
they do for the community?

Angeline Gillings (01:53):
Right.
So Girl Power is a nonprofitorganization led by Amaka Amalu.
I got to know about thisproject through my sister.
It's part of her corporate.
They are giving back and thisbusiness is actually listed on

(02:17):
their thing actually in Miami.
They are focused on theunderserved young women in the
community and it's all abouttech.
So tech power how can you usetechnology to advance yourself

(02:42):
and what your skill set is.
So, for example, there is nextweek.
There is a one-week workshopfor the women in the community.
They're going to be mentorshipand it's virtual, so mentorship
talks from persons within thecommunity.

(03:02):
And, what I am actually veryexcited about, there is a pitch
competition for these youngwomen to come up with a project,
what would be a viable project.
They'll get support in terms ofgiving them advice using AI.

(03:25):
So the last two days are goingto be focused on this pitch
competition from these girls oryoung women in the community how
they can use AI for a business, starting a business.
I am hoping to be there inperson.

(03:47):
It's simple that I may be ajudge, but it's not finalized
yet.
But even for me, it's justbeing there, just watching them
and being a part of that energy.
See the excitement of whatthese persons who are
underprivileged but they havesharp minds and they just want a

(04:10):
door to be open for them.
Yeah, so I think next week isreally going to be exciting, and
it's just one of many of theinitiatives that Tech Girl Power
is about.

Shireen Botha (04:26):
And is there a way that we can support them?

Angeline Gillings (04:31):
uh, I I the link you can put in in the um in
the podcast.
I don't have it in front of me,but there's a link that is
available for that and you candonate for support right, yes,
oh yeah, definitely, oh yes,definitely.
And I, I would add, I wouldencourage if, if you are

(04:54):
donating, to actually see thatit's coming from Friends from
Wild Places, right?

Shireen Botha (05:01):
right, I'd love that.

Angeline Gillings (05:02):
Yeah, that would be good because this is
the platform in which they wouldhave seen it, so I look forward
to persons supporting andmaking donations there.

Shireen Botha (05:14):
Thank you very much for sharing Angeline, much
appreciated.
All right listeners.
Before we get into the fun andlighthearted part of the podcast
, with a little bit of a game, tanya, do you have any
last-minute questions to askAngeline before we move?

Tanya Scotece (05:32):
on.
So, angeline, I have heard youspeak before and I think you're
still doing speaker, guestspeakers and keynote speeches
and things of that nature.
Can you share with ourlisteners what opportunities
they could hire you for as faras speaking engagements?

Angeline Gillings (05:50):
Okay, great.
So I've been excited to speak.
I spoke about college students.
I've been going to collegeconferences, regional
conferences.
I spoke at Yale Universityearly in the year by us, the
judges, giving a quick talk ondifferent areas.
I spoke about innovation.

(06:20):
So there are opportunities forspeaking within colleges and
school districts generally aboutinspirational, motivational
talks.
One of the popular ones that Ihave is Shining Bright.
That was really.
How do you shine?

(06:41):
You don't have to dim someoneelse's light for your light to
shine.
Messages like those.
I've been doing that and that'sone topic.
Multi-generations how do we andthat's one topic
multi-generations how do we themulti-generations in the
workplace?
Interestingly, that topicserves two sides.
It serves the youngergeneration, who is going into

(07:04):
the workplace with these lofty, what seems to be sometimes out
of the way expectations out ofthe way expectations and also
those who are in the businessand having these young people
coming in and wondering whereare these people?
What, what?
You know?
They're coming with these crazyideas and expectations.

(07:26):
How do we get them to worktogether?
So that's another example of atopic that I have and it works
well with the younger generation, the students, the emerging
leaders, and works well withthose who are in the workplace
and finding it very difficult tohow to collaborate very

(07:49):
effectively with the youngergeneration.
So those are opportunities.
So there's speaking, there'sworkshop, so there could be a
half day workshop, full dayworkshop.
There's training that I doaround a lot of the topics that
relate to inspiration, motivation and just emerging to

(08:13):
be your best self, because whenyou are your best self, then you
can give of your best for theworkplace and for yourself and
family.
Wow.

Tanya Scotece (08:25):
Yeah, and what are some maybe just some
takeaways from this podcast, angeline, that you could share
with our listeners, as far aswhat you do to replenish that
cup, well, how do you read?
You know, refill.
What do you do?
Is there, you know?
Do you watch movies?
Do you?
What do you do?
What's what's your go-to?

Angeline Gillings (08:45):
Okay, so I like to walk.
I walk by the lake.
Um, I like I haven't been doingit very well because it's so
hot, I have to get up reallyearly in the morning and I'm not
doing as well as I was doing, but I like to walk by the lake.
I love listening to music.
I love, I say, lying by thebeach, and I say lying by the

(09:10):
beach because I don't swim, butI just like being by the water.
It's like it's calming and, um,and I love my family.
I just love being with myfamily, and especially now with
my, my granddaughter.
Oh, congratulations, it's joyoverload.

(09:30):
Now, yes, that's awesome.

Shireen Botha (09:34):
That's awesome.
Thank you for sharing.
Yes, thank you, angeline.
Uh, so, yeah, now we're gonnaplay a little bit of a game,
just to end on a light-heartedum beat.
So I don't know if you late.
I know, tanya, and I played itbefore.
Uh, angeline, have you everplayed two truths and a lie?

Angeline Gillings (09:59):
before.
Uh, angeline, have you everplayed two truths and a lie?
No, I think I've heard it?

Shireen Botha (10:01):
no, but I've never played it.
Yeah.
So basically, you have tomention two truths about
yourself and then mix up one liethat's not true, one statement
that's not true, amongst the,the two true statements, and we
myself and tanya have to pickout the, the statement that's
not true, out of those right, and let's see if we can get it

(10:26):
right.
Is that the aim of the game isto try and get it right?
Um, and then I'll go, and thenTanya will go.
So, angeline, do you want tostart or do you want one of us
to start?

Angeline Gillings (10:39):
You start so that I can get into the rhythm.

Shireen Botha (10:44):
Awesome.
Okay, so my three statementsare I have been chased by an
elephant.
I have been, I walked fromFrance to Spain and I have

(11:15):
jumped out of an airplane.
Which one is the lie?
Tanya and Jalene, should we gowith you first?
Which one do you think is thelie?

Angeline Gillings (11:37):
I want.
The one that scares me the mostis jumping out of the air.
I would go with that one, thatone scares me the most so just
because of that.

Tanya Scotece (11:49):
I'm going to say I don't know, chased by an
elephant.
You think that's the lie?

Shireen Botha (11:56):
yeah, okay, angelina's correct.
I don't know chased by anelephant.
You think that's the lie.
Yeah, okay, angelina's correct.

Tanya Scotece (12:01):
The lie is I've never jumped out of an airplane.

Angeline Gillings (12:03):
Okay, okay, that is scary Right?

Shireen Botha (12:09):
Yeah, I actually would much rather jump out of an
airplane and do a skydivingthing, then be chased by an
elephant.
That was way more scarier.
Um, angeline, do you want to gonext?

Angeline Gillings (12:24):
or tanya trying to find my lie, that's my
problem tanya go ahead, allright.

Tanya Scotece (12:31):
so two truths and a lie, correct, please yes,
please, okay.
So here we go.
I am afraid of spiders.
I love bridges.

Shireen Botha (12:52):
And I speak Italian, no wait.

Tanya Scotece (13:03):
Repeat, repeat.
Tanya, please, no wait, okay, repeat, repeat, please.
So one is that I am afraid ofspiders.

Shireen Botha (13:07):
I love bridges and my last one was you speak
italian speak italian angeline,do you want to guess which one's
the lie, or do you want me togo first?

Angeline Gillings (13:17):
oh, I am going to say afraid of spiders,
spiders what about you, shireen?

Shireen Botha (13:31):
I.
I want to say, yeah, I'm gonnasay spiders is a lie as well,
because I think you can speakitalian and I think you do love
bridges okay, you are.

Tanya Scotece (13:46):
Both are correct.
You are correct, you arecorrect.
Great job, great job.
All right Off to you, angeline.

Angeline Gillings (13:58):
All right, so here it goes.
I'm a scientist, I have starteda fire alarm at a hotel.
I speak Spanish.

Tanya Scotece (14:14):
What was the second one, Angeline?

Angeline Gillings (14:16):
I started a fire alarm at a hotel.

Shireen Botha (14:23):
I'm going to say the lie is you're a scientist.

Angeline Gillings (14:38):
I'm going to say number three about spanish.
Okay, drum roll.

Tanya Scotece (14:44):
Uh, tanya is the winner yay, I don't speak
Spanish, I mean, I think I don't.

Shireen Botha (14:54):
That was.
That was so silly of me,because I think everyone that
lives in the in the US knows howto speak Spanish that's a silly
.

Angeline Gillings (15:03):
No, no see.
And worse in Miami, yeah, Ishould.

Tanya Scotece (15:07):
I'm still trying to learn myself.
Yeah, I gotta venture into theSpanish world.

Shireen Botha (15:11):
Oh my gosh.
Well, that's gonna be my I'm.
I've decided that's gonna be mysecond language.
I'm gonna learn is spanish.
So yeah, oh my gosh, guys, thank you so much.

Tanya?

Tanya Scotece (17:30):
What about yourself, tanya?
So my wheelhouse.
It's funny.
I had put in one of ourpodcasts, shireen, about my
expert witness and I've actuallygotten booked.
I have actually done over 10cases for expert witness in the
past 12 months, so for funeralhome and cemetery cases, for

(17:50):
funeral home and cemetery cases.
So that is, if anyone has anysituation involving a funeral
home or cemetery, I'm happy toserve as an expert witness in
those cases.
My blessed work is helping oursenior community find safe
assisted living facilities, as Ilike to say communities.
So I do specialize in dementiaand people that have challenges

(18:14):
with loved ones, with any of thedementias.
Alzheimer's is the most popularone, so most people think of
dementia as Alzheimer's, butAlzheimer's is only one of the
dementias.
There's many different typesand I call it my blessed work.
We are a free placement agency.
We get paid directly by thecommunity and my territory is
the east and west coast ofFlorida.
And, lastly, I do serve as theprogram coordinator and

(18:37):
full-time professor at MiamiDade College in the funeral
service program.
So if anybody's looking for acareer change, wanting to be
involved in death care, workingwith families, helping people
with grief, empathy and justkind of being their lighthouse
in a very dark time.
That may be a new career forsome folks out there.
So folks can find me onLinkedIncom under Tanya Scotisi
