Tales from the wild, stories from the heart.
A journey into the mind andsoul of fired up business
professionals, where they sharetheir vision for the future and
hear from a different non-profitorganization every month as
they create awareness of theirgoals and their needs.
Dive into a world of untamedpassion as we join our host,

(00:27):
Shireen Botha, for this month'sepisode of Friends from Wild
Places.

Tanya Scotece (00:37):
Very nice, very nice.
And I know you recently areventuring into meal prep right,
meal preps also as a meetingthat people can get whatever
breakfast, lunch or dinner rightpre pre, pre set.
I guess is that correct?

Mari Gonzalez (00:51):
so this came along with my hairdresser.
Okay, it's, she's also somebodythat you know, it's, she's
close to our family.
She does my mom's hair, mysister's hair, my niece's hair,
um, and it's wedding season.
So we had a wedding, uh, for mynephew a couple couple weeks
ago and then in august we havemy niece's wedding, um, so you

(01:12):
know, we've been taking care ofher hair, cutting it,
highlighting it and whatnot.
So she knows about the juicesshe orders constantly.
And then she asked me do you domeal prep?
And I get this all the time.
I don't advertise it, but I getit all the time.
And because I'm not what do yousay, a storefront?

(01:34):
You know I have to be verycareful because we do operate
from home.
It's a home kitchen, right.
So I said I would do it for you.
I would do it for you becauseyou know, I know, I know her.
Then somebody saw her eatingthe food.
Oh, my gosh, that looks so goodand she's like, but she doesn't

(01:54):
do it for everybody.
I will give her her number, hernumber, but so I'm like, it's
hard for me to say no, you know,if I know that this is going to
help someone, it's hard for meto say no, you know, if I know
that this is going to helpsomeone.
So for now I have three clients, three clients.
I've had other people inquirebut not follow through.

(02:15):
But yes, I would do it forpeople that I know, maybe for
you, tanya, I know you, you knowme, because it's a sticky,
sticky situation, if we can saysticky, sticky situation, if we
can say Right, right, right,right.

Tanya Scotece (02:29):
And is there any other area that you want to
venture into?
Or I mean, do you want tobecome like?
If you could sit here like andwave a magic round from a year
from now, would you want to saydo you want to become, you know
like, busier with this business?
Are you happy with what it is?
Do you want to offer morewhatever that looks like, I
don't know supplements oranything additional?
Where do you see yourself withyour business?

Mari Gonzalez (02:49):
So I see myself with a small storefront.
I don't want something big,something like a cafe where
people can come in have somecoffee, have some matcha, you
know, enjoy our uh any time ofthe day.
Uh, offer small meals.
Uh, right now, like I said, Iam doing the meals only, uh, one
meal.

(03:09):
It could be lunch or dinner, a,so I'll offer the, the healthy
snacks, you know.
So if I could partner up with agym or partner up with, um,
somebody that's in the sameindustry, somebody that is
spreading health, somebodythat's spreading consciousness,
um, you know, how to live alonger, better life, by taking

(03:31):
care of your body, by nourishingyour body with the right foods,
I would, I would do that, Iwould dive into that a hundred
percent yeah, very cool, verycool.

Shireen Botha (03:41):
that's exciting, that's exciting.
Yes, it is.

Mari Gonzalez (03:45):
Yes, it is.

Shireen Botha (03:46):
We've come to the very important part of our
podcast Very, very important andthat is supporting our
nonprofit for the month, andthis is where we can really
serve the community and lend ahelping hand for a listener that
might be needing specific helpin a certain area that this

(04:09):
non-profit may provide.
But for this month we're goingto be supporting Metro Life
Church in Doral Florida, the.
This is Marie's non-profit, sowe're going to allow Marie just
to share with us a little bitabout how Metro serves the

(04:32):
community and how we can supportMetro to serve the community as
well.
Go ahead, marie.

Mari Gonzalez (04:41):
So Metro Life Church has been my home church
for the last eight years, Iwould say I used to go to a
Hispanic speaking church and mykids weren't growing there, so
the pastor the youth pastor usedto come to my kids school to do

(05:02):
chapel.
So my kids made the transitionto Metro and dad and I followed
at that time.
So it's been about eight years.
We have just grown tremendouslyin that church Spiritually.
We have a good support team.
We have a faith family, whichis so important.
Like going back to what youguys were asking me, some of the

(05:25):
things that we need, we needthat support.
We need friendships that aregoing to tell us, you know,
guide us in things that we needto do and where we need to head
in life.

(05:48):
Women they have a womenpregnancy center where they help
women that are pregnant thathave no support, no financial
support, no housing.
They also have a cohort oncampus, in the Doral campus,
that schools kindergartenstudents through 12th grade
students.
They just had their graduation, like three weeks ago.
It's amazing.
They have my Morning Devo, which is something that I listen

(06:11):
to every morning.
It's a group of girls, thepastor's daughters and there's
topics designed especially forus women, how to, you know,
raise our children, how to guideour family, how to be business
owners and balance life at thesame time.
So these are real life topicsthat they're bringing to us,

(06:32):
they're helping us navigate lifeand they're very dear and close
to my heart.
So, yeah, metro Life in Doral,it's my home church.

Shireen Botha (06:42):
I love that.
I love to hear when a church ornon-profit is really serving
the community.
Yeah, and I can hear about thework, the good work that they're
doing and that's important formyself and Tanya to know that
we're going to be supporting anonprofit that's actually
effective in their community.

(07:04):
So, listeners, we will beputting the link for
MetroLifeChurchcom forward.
Slash give there are threeoptions there.
So if you live in the area, there are the options there you
can help and support with.
If you're not in the area, there's a option where you can
give and support them in thatway.
But yeah, we'll put that in theshow notes.

(07:28):
But I think what I would like todo before we move on to the
more lighthearted part of thepodcast is I wanted to ask you,
marie, you mentioned time as oneof the biggest challenges and
lessons that you had to reallylearn and overcome as a business
owner.
I find that you, you know youwere saying you got to push and

(07:52):
you you'll find it in yourselfto be able to push past what you
think that you were saying.
You've got to push and you'llfind it in yourself to be able
to push past what you think thatyou could manage.
But I also think on the otherside of that is ways and means
to be able to refill your tank, because you are giving, giving,
giving and there's only so muchyou can give until your tank is

(08:13):
depleted.
So would you mind sharing a fewthings that you do personally
just to help fill that tank upso that you can keep on giving
from a full glass?

Mari Gonzalez (08:25):
absolutely so.
I start the day with my morningdevo.
My morning devo is like thatmorning feel.
Um.
You know, I work out at leastfour times a week because I need
that.
I need that um, because itgives me that clarity, that
energy that I need to start myday.
Um, family time is a big one, II know, I I was going to say it

(08:49):
and I did not say it earlier, but family time is a big one.
My kids my daughter lives withme, my son married two years ago
, but they come home, they'rehome.
This is a safe place, this is aplace where they feel welcome.
They know their kids, theirchildren, you know.
So they have that confidencethat they can always come home.

(09:11):
They fill my tank.
They fill my tank, fill my tank.
My granddaughter, seeing hersmile growing healthy, uh,
cooking for her.
I made her soup the other dayfor the first time.
She absolutely loved it.
So, doing things for my family, enjoying that time, just
sitting down, having aconversation, doing absolutely

(09:32):
nothing, just doing thingstogether, it's really we are
missing a lot of that in lifetoday, in society, and we see
affect, you know, our youth, affect our adults, our elders.
So we need more of that and Itry to balance life and work

(09:56):
that way Spiritual tank full, physical tank full and that
emotional connection with myfamily.
My parents are in the WestCoast so I get on the phone with
them, facetime drive a couplehours maybe once a week um to
visit them because I also needthem, they need me.
But family, definitely family,is that um supernatural power

(10:22):
that ignites within me I lovethat.

Shireen Botha (10:27):
That's amazing.
Thank you, marie, for sharingthat uh with us.
I think it's also I agree withyou it's really important.
But yeah, so here we are, listeners at the fun part, and
today you've heard me try acouple of different things, but
today I just want to do a coupleof fun questions, right, some

(10:48):
of the things that we want toget to know each other a little
bit more.
So it'll be a speed questionjust to to get to know each
other a little bit more.
So first question is Marie, doyou like video games?
You know?

Mari Gonzalez (11:11):
I was talking to my husband last night, um, the
kids had just left and I said, babe, you, you know, I would
like to play mario again withyou, or pac-man, I think we need
to get like a console, uh, likethe atari that we used to have
when we were growing up.
Last night we were talkingabout that.
So I do to answer the questionI like video games.

(11:35):
I like the good ones, or cleanones that you know are just for
fun?

Shireen Botha (11:42):
Yes, I like that.
So no shooting, killing, murdering, kind of scary zombie
kind of games for you.
Marie Got it Not for me, sonia, what about yourself?
Yourself?
Do you like video games?
I'm with.

Tanya Scotece (11:55):
Mari, I love the pac-man, miss pac-man, asteroid
space invaders, like if I go toan arcade, which is not too
often, but I love those games.
I'm not, I'm not at all versedwith the modern day that the
kids have the headsets on andeverybody's shooting things and
no, but I love the like, oldfashioned I would say, or back

(12:16):
in the 80s.
That's love those games.
A Frogger, donkey Kong, youknow, even Pong, I think you
mentioned that Just the oldfashioned, good fun games.
Yeah, how about you, shireen?

Shireen Botha (12:29):
I remember those when I was young, we had our big
square TVs and we had thelittle TV game console with the
little brick like square plaything that would go into the
little console and you would sitthere with the old, you know
remote that was wired to theconsole.
Anyway.

(12:55):
No, um, to answer your question, I'm actually being seriously
thinking about buying the newwii because I want to buy the
new harry potter game.
Okay, okay, yeah, they have anew harry potter legacy that
came out about a year ago.
It's old news for those peoplethat are harry potter fans.
They are all listening to meand going oh please, shireen,

(13:16):
that's was ages ago.
What's wrong with you?
Um, but yeah, I'm thinkingmaybe I should do that as a
little gift to myself so that Ican also play the legacy um
harry potter game and see how itis.
People are raving about it.
They think it's an awesomeinteractive game.

(13:36):
So it's quite interesting.
But let's do one more questionbefore we come to the end of the
podcast.
What about?
Okay, marie, how would youspend a rainy day?

Mari Gonzalez (13:52):
I don't like rainy days, although those are
the days where my creativitysparks the most, because I'm
home.
I, I, you know so in thekitchen, most likely in the
kitchen or here at home, if thekids are home, just watching a
movie, eating dinner or lunchtogether, just being a homebody.

Shireen Botha (14:14):
I like that.
Tanya what about yourself?

Tanya Scotece (14:17):
So I am so introverted I mean it's funny
because most people that don'tknow me think I'm extroverted
and that couldn't be fartherfrom the truth.
So rainy days for me, I wouldvery easily just stay in my bed
and go from my bed to my bath, which is my favorite hobby is
taking a bath.
So on a rainy day, I couldprobably take anywhere from four

(14:39):
to five baths and go eat someof my food in my kitchen and go
back to bed and it's like thistriangle, like I could do that
all weekend.
So if it was a rainy weekend, Imay get on there, do a little
work here and there, but no,it's in my bed.
I like online games like Wordswith Friends is the number one
game that I play.
So that's like a, I guess,decompressor for me.

(15:02):
So I could just like mindlessactivity, just play like old
fashioned Scrabble.
I guess is what Words withFriends is.

Shireen Botha (15:12):
So very easily.
That's what I would do.
Sorry, I'm laughing at the 45baths in a day, I can barely
have one Four to five.

Tanya Scotece (15:23):
I love it.
No.
Four to five on a rainy day, ohmy gosh, that's so funny.

Shireen Botha (15:29):
Really relaxing.

Mari Gonzalez (15:30):
Did it get buddy?
That sounds very relaxing.

Tanya Scotece (15:38):
It is yes, yes, yes, and I do Epsomom salt baths
, so I'm always uh, that's myfavorite.
So, and I know I I've actuallyread recently that you're not
supposed to do as many as I do.
It's almost like, uh, you know, you can overly detox yourself,
so Whatever.

Shireen Botha (15:52):
I love this.
I absolutely love this.
Oh, tanya, that's why we'refriends.
I think it's so cool.
Yeah, me A rainy day would be anice, cold rainy day.
It must be cold because then Ican cuddle under a nice blankie
woolly blankie with fire going,my little bath and body works.

(16:20):
Candles must be lit and um, anice warm drink, like maybe a
pumpkin spice if it's fall, or ahot chocolate if it's Christmas
time or you know whatever it is, with a nice book or playing
Harry Potter game there you goyeah, that would be me in a

(16:46):
nutshell.
Okay, enough of that.
All right, guys, this is thegood part we also want you to
share with the listeners.
You know there could belisteners out there that really
connect with you and they wantto reach out and they want to
find out more or ask you somequestions.
So we always like to makeourselves available to our
listeners, so if you don't mindjust mentioning where they can

(17:07):
find you, please go ahead, marie.

Mari Gonzalez (17:11):
So you can reach me at wwwyestodetoxcom, and this
is the word yes, the number two, and detox.
Yes to detoxcom.
You can also look me up onInstagram.
Follow me at yes to detox.
That's basically.
You know the ways to the waysthat you can reach me, or you

(17:33):
can reach me via text.

Shireen Botha (17:36):
Love it.

Mari Gonzalez (17:37):
That information is on the website and also on
Instagram.

Shireen Botha (17:40):
Yes, and in the show notes, just so you know.
You already know this listener,so I'm not saying something
that you don't know.
Tanya what about yourself?

Tanya Scotece (17:49):
OK, so I will share.
But I have two final thoughts.
For Mari One is you couldactually do Manchi's yes to
Detox that could actuallyincorporate both names.
I was pondering that while wewere sitting here collaborating,
and also my wish for somethingthat I would love for you to
create is a coffee creamer thatI will like that's healthy,

(18:12):
because I love hazelnut coffeecreamer.
I cannot get off of it.
I love it.
I've tried everything.
I've tried every one, the onethat looks like bowling pins.
I've tried all these differentshapes and styles and powders
and I know it's not thehealthiest and I eat pretty
healthy, but that is my vice.
So something that I can have.
It doesn't have to be obviouslywith preservatives, but just

(18:33):
something that is going have.
It doesn't have to be obviouslywith preservatives, but just
something that it's going totaste good so I can actually
have some nice hazelnut creamerwith my coffee and not like the
hazelnut has me like oh, youknow those little heart hearts
in your eyes.

Mari Gonzalez (18:48):
I do have a creamer that I use personally,
and it's almond milk with dates.
This is something that I useevery day.
I drink matcha in the morningwith a little bit of date paste
as my sweetener, and in theafternoon I have coffee collagen
coffee with the date creamer.

Tanya Scotece (19:09):
Amazing, it's my guilty pleasure yeah, maybe you
could contact me with the dateor anything, because I like I do
like the suite and I'm notfamiliar with date paste, so
okay.
So for the listeners out there,my wheelhouse is I am a
full-time professor and programcoordinator at miami-dade

(19:30):
college.
For anybody considering acareer change or knowing folks
that maybe want to get into thefuneral profession, we create
the aspiring funeral directorsand embalmers.
We're one of three programs inthe state of Florida.
I also serve as an expertwitness for funeral home and
cemetery cases regardinglitigation.
And my last is my beloved workbased on my own father's journey

(19:54):
with dementia, specificallyLewy body that I am a senior
placement specialist matchingpeople with communities.
We are a free placement service.
There's no charge to use.
Us get paid directly by thecommunity.
So if you know anybody or anyfamily member that maybe has
somebody with dementia or any ofthe dementias, I knew nothing
about it before my father'sdiagnosis and he had passed in

(20:18):
2022, but I still continue myblessed work in this arena.
So LinkedIn is my wheelhouse.
I live, breathe and sleepLinkedIn.
I don't have a TV.
Shereen knows that, so you canfind me under Tanya Scotisi.
I'm sure Shereen will put thatin the show notes.
Feel free to reach out.
My verb is inspire, and Ialways like to provide

(20:40):
inspiration.
So, and what about?

Shireen Botha (20:42):
