Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's a blessing that comes when you decide that
what you have, what you know, what you're good at, you're
actually going to sell to thepeople.
You're going to help them outby selling it to them.
It is a blessing to sell right?

(00:23):
Shabbat, shalom y'all.
As you all know, I'm apodcaster, but I do make no
bones about that.
I do honor the Sabbath, honorTorah, so I don't work on the
Shabbat and so I'm publishingthis on Shabbat.
I really wanted to sharesomething related to the

(00:44):
scripture or the Bible orwhatever, and I came across a
scripture, a proverbs, thattalks about selling, and it
actually talks about selling asa blessing.
It didn't talk about givingstuff away.
It's a blessing.
I know conventional wisdom.
Oftentimes people are scared tosell.
They feel like they're takingadvantage of someone.

(01:05):
They sell to somebody when theyneed something or they want
something.
Everything should just be givenaway.
But we in business, number one,we can't afford to do this
because we could.
But it's good to know thatthere's a Bible biblical backing
for what we do.
If you think about Solomon therichest, widest man according to

(01:26):
the Bible, whoever lived hesaid something about selling.
That's important and instead ofme just reading, I'm going to
go ahead and show it on thescreen right, because I think it
bears looking at that.
And so what it says in Proverbs, chapter 11, and I'm going to
show it right there, proverbschapter 11, 24, what it says is

(01:51):
the people who curse him whowithholds grain, and it's
talking about in the script, like if you just read Proverbs
chapter 11, it talks a lot aboutjust situations, especially
when it comes to business andnature.
But in this situation you canassume in the other scripture to
back it up, that it's talkingabout in the time of famine,
when people actually needsomething, because it's a curse

(02:13):
on him who withholds grain andthat grain is something that is
even a basic necessity.
Even more so, things that are,you know, luxury or good that
have, it's not good to withholdthem because you know you create
a deficit, you createdesperation and things like that
.
So if you have something, it'sgood to make it available.
But what he didn't say was heshould give it away.

(02:37):
He didn't say it should just behanded out to whoever wants it
whenever they want it, right, but it actually says I'm going
to go to the next part of thescripture says but if he sells
it, blessings will be on hishead, you know.
And then some scripture sayspeople will bless him.
You know, when it talks aboutsomething in their head, most of
the time it's talking aboutcoming from someone who's

(02:58):
directly affected by it.
So what it's saying is in atime when people are in need, if
you have what they have, whatis in need, of course you should
not hoard it, of course youshould not just keep it to
yourself, but you should sell itand they'll bless you for it
and, of course, not justblessing you with.
You know the money that theygive you, but it's a blessing.

(03:19):
Like you know how many timeswhen you go to a place, you buy
something to thank you.
You know there's somethinginternal with us that
recognizing, that recognizesthat buying something, you know
somebody providing a good orservice that you want and need
and you paying for it it's worthit to you internally.
And you know one thing we asbusiness people have to make
sure that we understand is thatyou know we're not to take

(03:43):
advantage of people and you know, in Proverbs 11, it actually
starts off talking about nottaking advantage of people.
So this is not what this isabout.
It's not about jacking upprices or price gouging like it
had before.
You know we're talking about.
You know still doing fairtrading.
You know, one of the goodthings about if we actually had
a free market system was thatyou know that in these

(04:03):
situations you know where it isa need.
Then you know fair trade willbe happening and prices will not
be gouged.
You know, if the people's moneygo down and prices naturally go
down because with the marketcan stand, but that's all
economics and things that nature, I'm really just talking about
the script right here.
So I can say the people willcurse him with who would, who
was holds grain, but they're.

(04:23):
But if he sells it, blessingswill be on his head, meaning
that if you are providing a goodor a service I'm really talking
about, I'm talking to those ofyou who are entrepreneurs, those
of you are salespeople, thoseof you who have goods and
services, whether they benecessities, may they never.
They may be Good to has, whether they are luxuries.

(04:44):
You know Doing things that helppeople.
You know whether they, whetherit actually helps them because
they need it.
They help us because they justwant it.
You know, sometimes you knowthat feeling of having something
that you like, that you love, you know Tasting a good dessert
or eating good food, or you knowlooking good or feeling good,
all of that.
So somebody providing thatopportunity For you it is a

(05:07):
blessing.
So, as you are providing thoseopportunities for people, know
that it is a blessing.
That's why people givetestimonials, that's why people
write good Yelp reviews, that'swhy people do those things.
That's a blessing to youbecause you've sold them
something that they wanted, theyneeded, they desired, right, so
feel good about that.
So, as you're selling, asyou're going out selling your

(05:30):
goods, your service, I want toencourage you that you are doing
a blessing for these people, aslong as what you're giving is a
good thing.
Now let's go even deeper into itand I can say oh, just so y'all
know I ain't nobody's preacher,you know so.
I was raising a good in a goodministry, so you know I do.
You know, no, how to look atthe vibe line.
Look at it from a very, youknow, pragmatic standpoint.

(05:53):
What is this first step?
How does it relate to lifetoday?
You know we get talking about Ireally talk about scripture all
day long.
But yeah, so anyway, Movingforward, as, as you know, I, you
know we look, I look for anexample of it in in the bottle.
Okay, where was the time whenpeople were in need and somebody
sold something?

(06:13):
I give you one guess it was agenesis.
And if you go, you look ingenesis and the story of Joseph,
remember Joseph?
Now I'm gonna use somebackground before I should talk
about the script, the, theactual scripture itself in Torah
, and I'm not saying that it's alaw that you have to sell, not
saying towards as that there maybe somebody you know who could

(06:34):
you know point out in thescripture it says you must sell,
you cannot give away, because Iknow it is good to give away,
so but that's not what we'retalking about right now.
But, um, if you look at Joseph,he was somebody who was raised,
you know, following the laws, you know, like, his grandfather
was Moses, right, I meangreat-grandfather was, I mean
not sorry, you know what, almost, I'm stupid.

(06:57):
Maybe you need to edit thispart out, I mean that part out.
But his great-grandfather wasAbraham, abraham and your
Abraham was selected because hewould follow God's law.
So he didn't want, he was or,excuse me, that was, raised by
God's law and he lived his life.
You might prophecy, you know.
You know back to the prophecy.
You know that came in his dreams.
You know about who he would be.

(07:18):
So he was one who followed God.
He walked up rightly, you know, even when he was tempted, he
did the right thing.
So you know, this is a man thatwe, you know, we could probably
all agree was a very Upstandingcitizen, not just an upstanding
citizen, but a righteous person.
What would he do in thesituation where there was a need
, where people had needs?

(07:39):
It was rough, it was hard outthere, you know, and I mean even
in a situation of famine, wherethere was nothing, what did he
do?
We know the story.
Barrow had the dream.
Joseph came up, he interpretedthe dream and he gave wisdom.
This is what you do During theseven years of plenty you gather

(08:01):
up.
You gather up everything, youknow.
Gather the grain, you know, store it up, store it up, gather
it, gather it, gather it, it'sjust a withholding.
Withholding because it's plenty, everybody can get it, so it's
not withholding.
You save it for those good.
You know, the good years, fromthe good years to when the bad
years come.
So what did he do when the badyears came?

(08:24):
Let's look at what thescripture says right, can't make
this up, people Don't try to.
So I click it.
I gotta get my mouse.
Bam.
Genesis, chapter 41.
It says the famine was all overthe earth.
But then Joseph opened all thestorehouses and sold food to the

(08:45):
Egyptians, since the famine wassevere in the land of Egypt,
more over all countries came toJoseph to buy grain, because
famine was severe throughout theearth.
So not only did he sell iteverybody all over the earth, he
sold it to the people that werearound him, his own people, and

(09:06):
he even was selling it to hisbrothers.
Let's not forget that he had alittle bit of beef.
You know stuff like that.
You know had to get past somestuff, but he was still going to
sell it to him.
Let's be real.
And you know what?
All other people came.
They didn't come.
All the countries that came in.
They didn't come to conquerthem.
They didn't come to beef tocome wreck.

(09:27):
No, what they did was they cameto buy.
So he sold the food to theEgyptians, people that have been
gathering it.
But he sold it to them Sincethe famine.
So he didn't withhold it, buthe sold it to them.
Why do you sell?
Why not just give it away.
Maybe it's because if you justgive it away, people don't

(09:48):
appreciate it as much.
They figure they can come backany old time.
They can be more wasteful withit, all of that type of stuff.
One thing about selling is ithelps people to understand that.
You know you have to appreciatethis because you know, as long
as you have enough to buy andsell, you know you make sure
that you, you know you'reportioning it out right and not

(10:10):
less, especially if it'ssomething that you need.
You know.
And of course, we're not talkingabout just like the people
starve.
They don't like that.
That's not what I'm talkingabout.
Like, don't read more into whatI'm saying than what I'm saying
.
What I'm saying is what I'mlooking at in the scripture, in
the first book of the Bible.
First time it talks about afamily.
The first time it talks aboutthings being scarce.

(10:31):
The first time it talks aboutstuff being hard for people.
What was the solution?
To stay old?
Now, again, I'm not talkingabout price gouging.
I'm not talking about lobbyingto keep your store was open
while other people's are closed.
I'm talking about making sureyou know, we, you know stuff is

(10:51):
out there Like I ain't talkingabout that.
But what I am talking about is,you know, in a marketplace, when
people need something, sellingit, how do you think so many
small businesses boomed duringthe COVID-19 a few years ago
Like let's not, let's, not,let's?
You know, things change.
It was and you know what peoplewere even selling information

(11:14):
that was needed.
They had information.
They didn't hoard it or keep itfrom themselves.
They started sellinginformation.
So many consults and programs, podcasts, all that stuff blowing
up because people recognizedthere was a need, a desire, a
want, and it was a good thing tobe selling.
So that's all I'm saying.

(11:36):
I'm just talking about what'sin the Bible I can say.
You know that there's ablessing that comes when you
decide that what you had, whatyou know, what you're good at,
you're actually going to sell tothe people.
You're going to help them outby selling it to them.
You know when I talk about inmy programs how we do beta
testing of our products and wedon't give it away, because you

(11:59):
know there's a certain amount ofappreciation that people are
going to be able to sell thatpeople have when they pay for
something that they don'tnecessarily have when you give
it to them for free, so beblessed by selling Shabbat
shalom y'all.
See you on Monday, peace.
