Jesus was asked by a scribe what is the first commandment. Jesus answered that to love the Lord thy God with all the heart, soul, mind, and strength and thy neighbor as thyself. Forgiving is being like God. Christians are taught to forgive and are instructed to ask God's forgiveness for their trespasses as they have forgiven others. The expectation is that if they do not forgive others, God will not forgive them. When one forgives another, it sets them free spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Jesus came to the fig tree expecting to find fruit thereon. The tree appeared in health as it had leaves. However, when no fruit was found, He cursed it and shortly thereafter, it withered away.
